Dobbs For President In 2012?

December 3, 2009 by

Dobbs for president in 2012?Former CNN host Lou Dobbs, whose abrupt resignation earlier this month sent shockwaves throughout the media world, further fueled speculation of a potential career in politics last week.

When asked on former Republican Senator Fred Thompson’s radio show if he might make a run at the White House in 2012, Dobbs responded matter-of-factly, "yes is the answer."

Dobbs’ political future, however, remains uncertain. The former anchorman’s spokesman, Robert Dilenschneider, told The New York Times that Dobbs might make a 2012 run at a Senate seat in his home state of New Jersey before entertaining a bid for the White House.

Dilenschneider also hinted to the news source that Dobbs, who is affectionately known to fans as "Mr. Independent," would at least leave the possibility open of returning to the Republican Party.

"It’s just too early to come to a conclusion on that," he quoted Dobbs as saying.

Meanwhile, Dobbs seems to be softening his controversial stance on illegal immigration, stating the he now supports a plan to legalize millions of undocumented workers, The Wall Street Journal reports.

In an interview with the Spanish language network Telemundo, Dobbs said, "I can tell you right now that I am one of your greatest friends and I mean for us to work together. In this national debate, we should turn [toward] a solution rather than a continuing debate and factional contest."

Telemundo anchor Maria Celeste was open to the idea, but warned, "trust me, in the Hispanic world, you are viewed by many people as a No. 1 enemy, maybe because of the many inflammatory and misleading statements about undocumented immigrants that you’ve made throughout the years," quoted the news source.
