Diabetes Patients May Require Education On Kidney Health

March 7, 2011 by

Diabetes patients may require education on kidney healthIn a study of about 50 people with diabetes who experienced subsequent kidney problems, many felt surprised and regretful that they had not been adequately educated about the risks of renal failure or malfunction when they were diagnosed with the blood sugar disorder.

The study was conducted in the UK and published in the Journal of Renal Care.

While many of the participants were well aware of how their diabetes could affect their eyes and feet, few knew that losing control of their blood sugar levels could result in kidney failure.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends regular monitoring of blood glucose and making efforts to lower blood pressure through diet and exercise to keep kidneys healthy.

Authors of the study said the results point to a need for more research regarding the link between diabetes and kidney problems.

"The findings also demonstrate that the long-term educational needs of patients who have had diabetes for many years are just as important as the need to make newly diagnosed patients aware of all the health risks they face," said Gurch Randhawa, director of the Institute for Health Research at the University of Bedfordshire.

Yes!! And then another school to teach the teachers how to teach these things, and a collage to teach them, then government overseers to make sure there doing it right then, Government funding of 666,000,000,000,000 to fund what anyone who has it should look up on the internet and find out for free……

Folks that don’t already know this are probably too stupid to read, like the professors that taught them. It is too late for them, let evolution take it’s course. Anyone who would trust their health to Government / AMA / Certified Smart People with a yacht payment needs to be culled from the herd. You can follow the money and corruption all the way to the cemetery.

Jeff, that is a fact, some pinhead degreed idoit that spouts the books, written by another “expert”. If the diabetics are too damn lazy to check out facts and what the problems that will arrive. Trining will not do a damn bit of good. About as much sense as having a old bachelor tell young men how to get married and raise a family. Or some old barren maid telling young women how to catch a man, get pregant and be a helpful wife. Ogf coourse we all have a marxist muslim moron telling us how to be a Christian, run a business and create jobs, just more book trained slub b– s–t from a book trained chocolate ape.

90% of diabetics are fat, no, they’re OBESE. all they have to do is exercise a bit of self-control and their elbows by pushing back from the table. wouldn’t hurt them to actually get up off their behinds and get some real exercise either. a woman was complaining at church yesterday that she has to go for kidney dialysis becaue her kidneys are damaged from diabetes. i asked her why she won’t go on a diet. oh, she has to eat just certain things. yeah, but she doesn’t have to eat so much of them. well, do you get any exercise? no, i get out of breath too quickly. you have a walker with a chair built in, why don’t you take it with you and sit and rest as you need to? well, somebody would need to drive me to a park. why? no streets and sidewalks in her neighborhood? of course there are. fat people always have some stupid excuse.

barbm, First let it be known that you don’t have to be fat to have diabeties. I know several people that are as skinny as you ( I say that because your a fat person hater)and deal with diabeties every day. Stop lQQkn’ down on FAT people and try looking them in the eye and encrouge them rather than belittle them.

First of all I’m not Diabetic, secondly my Father was. Because this disorder is hereditary I have to be checked regularly. Ignorance among the populus on this subject is interesting. Type 2 Diabetes is no one’s fault i.e. being obese, and to make the claim otherwise is an uneducated statement. I do agree you need to be proactive in your own healthcare and that means doing the research and then making the changes that are necessary. BTW neither my Father or myself are/were obese. Assuming ALL Diabetics are just like one person you had an encounter with is sad. Yeah I know you gave 10% of them a break ~ how nice of you…….

    • Rodney A

Amen Judy, I didn’t read down enough before seeing your post. I’m over weight, not all due to keeping my elbows at the table but because of a thyroid problem. I see those smug faced “skinny” people looking down at fat and or morbid obese all the time. Do you really know why they are over weight? No ! You pre judge so cast that first stone know it all !!!!!!!!! Thanks Judy for coming to the defense of some of us differant people.

You can delay or avoid the onset of diabetes by following a few simple rules:

    1) Exercise at least 30 continuous minutes every day (walking works) and add resistance training 3 times a week as well.
    2) Avoid & never eat anything that was made with white flour – it is treated with a chemical called Alloxan, which makes it fluffy and looks nice. However, Alloxan is given to lab animals to give them permanent diabetes for testing purposes.
    3) Never eat or drink anything with High Fructose Corn Syrup in it – it has been linked to developing type 2 diabetes and pancreatic cancer (as if Jan 17, 2010).
    4) Avoid stress as much as possible – stress has been linked to getting diabetes as well.
    5) keep blood sugars in the normal range as much as possible, but generally between 70 and mid 90′s with 75-80 being optimal. This isn’t possible, but it is a target for everyone.

    Another factor,

The exact causes of type 2 diabetes aren’t completely understood, but it is known that the disease has a strong hereditary component. Individuals who have a parent or sibling with type 2 diabetes have 10 to 15% chance of developing the disease (the risk is much higher if the sibling is an identical twin). Environmental factors like an inactive lifestyle or poor diet may act as a trigger for someone with a genetic tendency towards type 2 diabetes. Other potential causes of type 2 include chronic stress, low birth weight, and gene mutations.

      coal miner,
One other cause is dioxin!! commonly called Agent Orange!!

barb, type 1 diabetics are usually skinny as rails and are always put on insulin. Type 2 usually are fat and usually never nove much but sit on their rears and can not or will not controll their intake of anything. Go to any mall and see what porkers who get handicap stickers and where they park. The worst thing stores ever did was put in free shopping electric carts for them to get around. A check out girl told of one big fat porker always came in went to the pharmacy and got the biggest bottle of diet pills, then loaded the cart heaping full of junk food and chips to the tune of $450+ dollars and last item was a $7 bottle of diet pills. Another group of the old mother, 2 daughters and one had a 12 year old chubby son, all wanted electric carts and if they were short one, grandmother/mother pushed the cart and walked. Fat is not a disease, it is just laziness and lack of control! Heridity may play a small part, poor food choices is just BS, couch sitting and dead azz is the prime cause of type 2.

    • Rodney A

You really do hate fat people don’t you. Look in the mirror, yes there you are, all perfect!!!!!!! Now go out and belittle some fat people “porkers” and feel good about yourself the rest of the day.

    • http://?? Joe H.

you know what? Yes, he’s fat. But he can go on a diet and your ugliness goes clear through!! nobodies perfect!! As long as you aren’t supporting them you got nothing to b!tch about! My wife is overweight, but I’ll be willing to bet you have missed more days of work than her in the 27 years she has been on the job!! The same job, I might add!
