DHS Making More Massive Ammo Buys
August 14, 2012 by Sam Rolley
Amid calls for increased gun control from some lawmakers and liberal activists, government entities have made it clear that they will not be relinquishing their firepower anytime soon.
The Department of Homeland Security is currently hurrying to finish the acquisition of 750 million rounds of ammunition, including 209,000 rounds of #00 buckshot 8-pellet bullets for 12 gauge guns and more than 2 million .357 magnum rounds. This follows a purchase of 450 million rounds of .40 caliber hollow point ammunition earlier this year.
The purchases of such large amounts of ammo along with riot gear and other militaristic equipment has raised eyebrows among many alternative media outlets, which speculate that civil unrest or war within U.S. borders is on the horizon.
The DHS does not, however, answer why exactly they want to give its federal agents tasked with counterterrorism around 750 million rounds of ammo. On paper the proposal says their request is to fulfill training exercise requirements, but why is the DHS equipping their officers with the know-how to shoot a basketball-size hole in a human body?
The DHS claims the ammo is for use in anti-terror training exercises.
