Despite Republican Criticism, Romney Defends Bay State Healthcare Law

May 16, 2011 by

Despite Republican criticism, Romney defends Bay State healthcare lawFormer Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney’s political record has inspired some tongue-in-cheek remarks from conservative politicians and pundits alike.

On May 12, The Wall Street Journal published an editorial about Romney under the headline “Obama’s Running Mate.” Political columnist Jonah Goldberg tweeted that Romney is auditioning for David Axelrod’s job, referring to the former senior advisor to President Barack Obama.

Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, a potential candidate for the 2012 GOP Presidential nomination, has made repeated references to “Romneycare,” linking the 2007 healthcare overhaul in Massachusetts to Obama’s controversial Federal reform.

The critics have not deterred Romney, who defended his healthcare legislation during a May 12 speech in Michigan. He said that the Massachusetts law, which includes the individual mandate, was the right move for the Bay State.

On a national level, however, Romney has other plans if he is elected President. He has unveiled a five-point proposal that would give States the power to reject Obama’s individual mandate and allow them to craft their own coverage plans.

If elected, Romney claimed that he would issue an executive order on his first day in the Oval Office granting all 50 States waivers that would exempt them from certain requirements of Obamacare.

Oh Wow, lets see Mitt really is no differant than Barry.
Did no one see that? I would answer that we all see that Mitt will end up being a lighter as in “political push lighter” that Barry.
But in the end has all the same worthless rhetoric.

Its now TIME to stop the maddness, and get off that old wheel of Political rhetoric. Call a SOB what they are, end this absurd PC crap. Mitt is a MONKEY. We don’t need any more game playing MONKEYS.

I don’t see anyone else out there stepping up that has helped any other states with debt or that has a knowledge of business that makes this country what it is. Who else is there that can help business, Cut taxes and debt?

The Governing parties are unbeatable. It is inhumane to limit the number of immigrants. Life does not begin at conception. These believes combined has and always will wipe out the culture that holds them.

The stage was set for people to be divided from each other before the founding of the United States. The attempt to unite the people was not and most likely never will be easy. It seems all too easy to pit people against each other and fan the flames.

Dems & Pubs are faceless but focused power hungry inanities. Do you want the power or freedom?

Protect your right to self-preservation. Only those with a strong will to maintain numbers and a defensive army will prosper. The more people that engage in distraction the easier it is for the focused.

  • Jessica

Not that this has anything to do with the article: does he have 5 sons of military age? How many are serving?

    • Will

None of the Romney boys are in the military and never will be.

When asked in 2008 how that could be in an America with two wars going (at that time), Romney curtly responded with a sort of “let them eat cake” statement that different Americans serve their nation in different ways.

Translation: There are more than enough of you lower class Americans to provide your sons and daughters to the dangers of military service so pampered puffballs like me and my family can languish in comfort and safety in our crystal palaces.

If the Republican hierarchy tries to stuff this idiot down our throat the same way they did with RINO McCain, they guarantee Obama a second term because, given a choice between Obama and Obama-lite, millions of conservative Americans will just not turn out to vote.

Romney Care increased the demand for health care, but did nothing to expand the supply of doctors. As a result, the average wait to get an appointment grew from 33 to over 55 days. An American College of Emergency Physicians survey showed 97% of ER doctors said they treated patients daily who can’t find doctors who will accept Medicaid. http://www.newsandopinions.net

    • Nadzieja Batki

They can’t accept them because they don’t get the full reimbursement for the care. Apparently the hospitals, the nurses, doctors, should be working for free since they are in the caring profession.

      • 45caliber

I think the liberals think they should. After all, it is wrong for a doctor or nurse to be paid for his/her skills and time but it’s okay for a laywer to get $400 + an hour for work he has his assistant or clerk do. And a lawyer goes to college for four years while a doctor goes ten.

        • crystal

Lawyers get their doctorate after 3 years. But you are right, who would want to spend 10-years in college learning how to save lives for minimum wage?

        • Carlucci

What is even more peculiar is that most attorneys have to turn to a life of crime and extortion also known as third party debt collecting. Either that, or they fix traffic tickets for a fee, which is at least more honorable than tpdc.

  • Raggs

NO WAY I HELL DO I VOTE for romney the RAT!

    • Raggs

      Opps I hate typo’s

Try again… No way in hell will I ever vote for romney the RAT!!!

    • Christin

I’m with you on that one Raggs… NO WAY IN HE_ _!

NO to ‘Hillarycare’, NO to ‘obamacare’, AND NO, NO, NO to MA liberal ‘Romneycare’.

ALL those guys are Progressives… aka Communists.

      • 45caliber

        Agreed.

        • J.M.R.

          i agree no to romney

          • http://?? Joe H.

            J.M.R.
I didn’t like his old man in Michigan and I don’t give a dam for him!!! ALL LIEBERALS!!!

  • Rennie

Any so-called republican who supports Obamacare, especially the unconstitutional individual mandate, be it Romney or Gingrich, has gone over the side as far as I’m concerned. Gingrich was already a disappointment on immigration, how hard a concept is it to say you enforce existing laws? Put our troops now over seas on our own borders where the greatest threat to our nation exists, where Hezbollahg and Hamas are known to be organizing and slipping terrorists in as “Other Than Mexican” but disguised as hispanic. How hard is this for a Presidential candidate to say? If they are too timid to tackle the harsh realities, they are not worth supporting.

    • Bruce D.

I like Romney and like listening to Gingrich. I do believe neither one can be trusted though. Especially Newt who has come out in favor of a healthcare mandate. Newt says a lot of good things but anyone that wants to expand government has to be considered an enemy.

      • Nadzieja Batki

Would be politicians will say anything to get elected, they already know the pulse of the people and what ideas are acceptable. The health care issue is pushed because there are enough people insecure about the expenses. So that in America we are unhealthiest healthy people even with all the supposed care.

  • frankie

Romney needs to clearly spell out his plans to settle the healthcare issue. Now that this “Obamascare” plan has been exposed, we’re all wary of anyone who stands for ANY continued or additional gov’t intervention in our lives. He made a big mistake with “Romneycare” but you have to give him a chance to clarify his position. This isn’t to say I would necessarily vote for him in ’12…. but let’s give him a chance to make his point, once and for all.
Remember, the US “communist spin-machine” media are trying to confuse the voters, as usual; and they’re threatened by Romney because he does have a lot of force.

    • bob wire

Rommey is the best in the field today and you know it. If the GOP can mount a serious threat, Rommey is your man. Think about that as you take him apart.

      • James

We as a nation can no longer accept the lesser of two evils. We must put forward and stand behind, a person who will turn this country around.
And yes we must look at what they have done in the past, to judge what they will do in the future. I do not care if they are Dem. Reb. Lib. Male, Female, etc.
The next election will be the most important in our history!!!!!

        • Nadzieja Batki

We better care what party they are from, what sex they are.You have to discern if they lie left and right, what their philosophy of life is. The POTUS is a figurehead for the nation and where he leads the majority of the people FOLLOW.(The caps were deliberate)

      • 45caliber

        bob wire:

If you support Romney, then I KNOW he’s a bad choice for President!!

        • bob wire

You’re not to get all you want , Sorry Charlie I can’t why should you?

          why not consider a compromise?

I’m just attempting to get you in the race.

I’d like to see a good race, all being truly qualified for the position.

Trump is out ~ just as I told you weeks ago.

      • Cawmun Cents

Yes a ploy to keep progressives in power,or to throw the election for Obama Bin Yomama.

  • 2WarAbnVet

Somehow I don’t think a Northeastern liberal like Romney is the solution to the nation’s problems. He has too much in common with the folks who caused those problems in the first place.

    • Christin

      Agreed 2WarAbnVet.

I don’t see Mitt Romney as the Constitutional Conservative that Middle America is looking for to return to the Founding Fathers’ vision of our American Republic with its FREEDOMS and LIBERTIES.

The ‘Progressive LEFT’ would love for the ‘GOP Presidential Candidate’ to be Mitt Romney, But I say HECK NO to RomneyCARE and to Liberal North Eastern Mitt Romney as a president for 2012.

Romney is just an ‘obama-Lite’ version of Marxist/Communism…NWO.

      • efred

Romney is not only the Obama-lite, but he is the Obama-white. Just because he’s white, he apparently thinks that the American people will go for the same Marxist crap that Obama supports and the public will find it more palatable coming from a white person. What does he think the American people are: racist AND stupid?

Mitt Romney has said he will support gun control, abortion, gay marriage; need I go on? He has said that he supports the 2nd Amendment and the Brady Bill, and assault (style) weapon ban and gun control (the NRA should refund him his lifetime membership dues on this alone). He did sign the abortion bills in MA, and he unconstitutionally ruled by executive order that forced the state of MA to allow gay marriage, and has said while running for governor of MA that he supports gun control but has been sucking up to the NRA since deciding to run for President.

        • Christin

Good update and info on Progressive Marxist Romney, efred.
          Thanks.

    • Christin

      2WarAbnVet,
I meant to say thank you for your service to our beautiful America and keeping us free… we may need to you to uphold that Constituional Oath and help us again right here on our own soil, my friend.

  • 45caliber

MA is going broke (or already is broke) from this healthcare program. The welfare people love it because it gives them more money to use for drugs while they run to the doctor twice a day for headaches. Anything to convince the doctor to prescribe various legal drugs too.

Those with real problems have to fight the crowds to get treated or give up when the problem corrects itself before they can get in.

And now the nation wants the same problems…

    • Christin

Yes, 45, I have heard about that too, the bankrupcy of MA by the Romneycare fiasco give-away, bunglecare, and rationing…so why don’t more people BOO Romney when he puts on his slick willy haircut, suit and tie and claim to be an American Patriot?

    • bob wire

If I’m not mistaken, most all the states are claiming their are broke today, regardless of each ones health care system.

      • 45caliber

Then you are saying that the healthcare program in Mass didn’t break the state? Even Romney has said it has!

  • American Citizen

Mitt Romney for President – NOT! He’d be no better than Obama.

    • bob wire

Well, there you go ~ if he’s that good you better support him.

      • http://?? Joe H.

Romney is just like bob wire, can’t keep his word!!!! Bob wire gave his word he was done with this site and he’s still HERE. Like a bad penny, they both just keep showing up!!!

        • Cawmun Cents

          Rory Galagher…..ah the memories,timeless.

  • crystal

I’m not sold on Romney. He just seems to be another Obama.

  • http://yahoo sharon

Romney can keep his public healthcare, and we need to keep this Obama look alike out of the whitehouse, to left wing for me.

    • http://?? Joe H.

      sharon,
romney is not an obummer look alike!!! His ears aren’t big enough!!!

  • s c

Was Herr Obummer following Romney’s lead (ref. healthcare scams), or was it the other way around? It’s hard to tell, especially since the good people of Massachusetts found a reason to elect a ‘Republican’ in what has become become one of the most limp-wristed, hardcore progressive states in America (and they USED to produce PATRIOTS!).
As is typically the case, when you can’t tell the difference between two people like Romney and Herr Obummer, you might as well get rid of both of them and start all over again with some new, REAL “talent.” Come on, Massachusetts, get off your entitlement mentality arses and elect some REAL politicians. Aren’t you tired of giving America so many LOSERS?

    • 45caliber

But it isn’t politically correct to be a patriot any more!

      • http://?? Joe H.

Then I guess I’ll never be PC!!!

  • Raggs

I wonder how much money these losers are getting from the communist party to throw the election to obama????

    • Christin

Himmmm, intersting angle, Raggs… something to think about.

  • Bitter Libertarian

I wonder hopw many people are aware that the state is suing its citizens for failure to participate & pay. That statement says it all, you only need to look up the definition of one word..LIBERTY.

Romney is ANTI LIBERTY…there is NO OTHER WORD NEEDED.

    lib·er·ty

    1. freedom from arbitrary or despotic government or control.
    2. freedom from external or foreign rule; independence.
    3. freedom from control, interference, obligation, restriction, hampering conditions, etc.; power or right of doing, thinking, speaking, etc., according to choice.

I DARE anyone who can read the English Language to tell me HOW MANDATING PERSONAL Health Insurance is within the definition of LIBERTY. :) Then Suing them for NON PARTICIPATION..LOL

So either this COMMUNIST doesnt care , cant read English, or is on the payroll of some very wealthy communists who fled Russia when it collapsed. ;)

  • chuckb

we got rid of huckabee, one moderate down, romney should be all through after his healthcare speech. trump has thrown the towel in. so who’s left? paul doesn’t stand a chance, pawlenty and daniels are too moderate to liberal, gingrich is stopped with his global warming get together with pelosi, so we have bachmann and palin and a couple of would be’s in the shadows. the democrats hate palin and deride her every chance they get and wimpy republicans hide from her so they won’t be criticized by the demos, however, she’s the only one of the bunch that can attract a crowd and i like what she says. she’s a true american conservative. she’s our next president. the public pays to hear her speak and the demos and the unions have to pay people to listen to the muslim in chief.

    • Nadzieja Batki

You really want to risk America’s future on Palin who in character is the female version of Obama.

  • 45caliber

I just saw an article that says Trump has decided to NOT run in 2012 fo President.

    • Bitter Libertarian

Good. Wasnt it obvious he was another federal reserve agent?! Blaming OPEC & CHINA…What a SAP!

    • Raggs

Yeah cotton candy hair floats off in the sunset…

      • Carlucci

I never thought about it, but his hair does look like cotton candy! Good call.

        • http://?? Joe H.

So do his chances of EVER being pres!!!

  • http://PersonalLibertyDigest Confoundme once but not twice

Since it is a Fact that Ron Paul has Again Placed himself In the Running For the presidency..You can Be assured The Votes will be Streaming to Him. If He was just considering himself and his family First..He would never Put himself OUT There again… BUT He is a TRUE Patriot..And His love of country is too stong to ignore . He Is Well aware of what a crisis this country is in, and will not turn his back on where he knows it is headed with B.O..and those of his ILK who surround him. I Don`t think for one minute He can be intimidated in any way. If we would begin looking at The MAN and what kind of man we are voting for, instead of at The PARTY they are ”signed with, we as a country would be far ahead of The GAME.

    • Raggs

Party-smarty… So what is his take on obama-care?????
I-4-1 have not heard a peep out of him on that issue…

      • Bitter Libertarian

He is dead set against it. His position on it is pretty well known. Go to RonPaul.com

        • Raggs

          K.. thanks… I know 4 a fact that newt the salamander advocates the a mandate…

        • 45caliber

          BL:
I don’t know of a single doctor who is in favor of it although Oblama says that many are. All they can see with Oblamacare is that they will be working about 100 hours a week at minimum wage by the time you figure out their hourly rate from the salary the government intends to give them.

The main reason, by the way, that the government wants to set Doctor salaries is because the lawyers don’t like the competition from doctors for political office. Ron Paul and his son are reasons. And they actually have a bill in Congress to ban doctors from running for office since their oath states they will serve mankind. And obviously Congressmen don’t do that.

          • bob wire

and how many doctors might that be?

  • http://none John

I live in Mass. Romney upped our taxes everywhere through back door “fees” which FAR exceeded what a percentage income tax would have produced.

Under his plan my direct premium health care costs have gone up by more than a third. My co-pays have at least doubled and for specialists trippled. Most “tests” that were covered I have to pay for. Over all coverages have been reduced or eliminated across the board. Is this what you want?

The insurance companies blame OboobAcare. They should be blaming Romney for this mess. He is completely to blame as Obooba was to stupid to come up with his own plan and copied Romney. He is more deceitful, and deceptive than Obooba and has no redeeming qualities that can see that would make him qualified to be our President.

    • 45caliber

Actually, I don’t think Oblama is smart enough to come up with all the trash in Oblamacare. It was partially copied from England with all the extras the Dems could think of to slip into it. Oblama simply took the blame – ah – I mean credit for it.

      • bob wire

Well you are partly correct, ~ It wasn’t all new ideas but borrowed from previous work of Republican and I’m sure they borrowed their ideas from somewhere else.

Presidents have enough work to do without crafting the documents, making coffee and carrying out the trash. They should read them though, which is more then 43 did.

        • http://?? Joe H.

bob wireyou mean like “We’ll have to pass it to see what’s in it”?

  • http://com i41

Raggs, anyonethat would want Nocare either is a simple minded bastard, who beleive a hangman noose is a chiroprator to let living people have a longer neck. When medicare was created by another dem whorehound(LBJ) cost tripled in 3 years and have ever since. Romney is just another greasy politian and always has been, Ginrich is another compromising weasel who would compromise to get along with the niggardly Onumnutts and the dumbocraps and beleives in green energy. Plawenty is another green idoit and is a rino and a compromiser. Ron Paul is an isolationist and has alot of drug head supporters that would need someone to provide their care when their minds are fried, and the ones who have supporterd Ron since he first ran for office, have and are always gaming government programs. So far the next one that have some backbone is Backman, Caine, Santorrim, any is better than the niggardly muslim marxists and his domestic radical freak cheats and crooks.

  • bob wire

#Well you’ve always got Snootly Newty

Pull his string and he will tell you anything that you want to hear.

    • http://?? Joe H.

Just like if you pull bobs string, he will argue on a sunny day that it’s raining!!!

  • newspooner

It is only necessary to know one fact: Romneycare makes it imperative for a person to buy health insurance. Requiring any person to purchase something is unconstitutional and contrary to all American standards of liberty. In itself, it defines the demander as a communist. If the stupid Republican Party nominates a communist of any sort as their presidential candidate, the country is doomed. There are plenty of good Republicans to choose from. But certainly not Romney, Trump, Gingrich, and many of the other “favored” Republicans.

  • Rex Baker

Romney believes states have the right to dictate health care plans, not the nation. Whats wrong with that? He’d strike down the national mandate and leave the decisions to the states. Good for him! He gave it a try in a state that wanted him to try it. Wheres your beef. He has a hell of a lot to give to this nation, why are people so stuck on so-called Romneycare, when there is no way he’d endorse a national plan. Wheres the Beef. Make your own decisions and stop listening to all the talking heads on TV.

  • Rex Baker

He had the courage to try it, and he admits to owning it. I don’t agree with it and I wouldn’t support it knowing what I know now. Back then when it passed I was curious to see how it might play out. Hindsight is 20/20, it stinks. But at least we learned that on a state level. I think Romney shows us his character by standing up for his govenorship and not trying to lie his way off the fire. He may not be the right nominee, but at least he is honest.
