  • After the Senate voted to change filibuster rules Thursday, Senator Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) called for more reforms. “This has been escalating for a long period of time and it was time to stop it and that’s what we did this morning,” Harkin said. “Now we need to take it a step farther and change the filibuster rules on legislation.” Source: The Hill…

  • The nation’s largest news organizations lodged a complaint Thursday against the White House for imposing unprecedented limitations on photojournalists covering President Barack Obama, which they say have harmed the public’s ability to monitor its own government. The organizations accuse the White House of banning photojournalists from covering Obama at some events, and then later releasing its own photos and videos of the same events. Source: McClatchy…

  • Connecticut is the only state in the country in which more people have applied for private coverage than Medicaid through the health insurance exchange, an exchange official said Tuesday. James Wadleigh, Access Health CT’s chief information officer, said the state’s exchange has taken more than 11,000 applications for individual and small-business coverage. About 6,000 are for private insurance customers, and about 4,700 will receive Medicaid. Source: The CT Mirror…

In other words, critics say, the government might soon be able to declare jurisdiction over a seasonal stream in your backyard. If so, good luck getting a permit to expand building space on your property, or marketing your land to prospective developers. Source: Fox News…

  • A victim of the ‘knock-out’ game was attacked by 17-year-old Marvell Weaver in Michigan. But Weaver did more than try to knock his victim out, he tried to do it with a taser. Luckily for the victim, the taser didn’t work and he was able to protect himself with his concealed-carry .40 caliber pistol. “He shoved something into my side. I wasn’t sure what it was. It had some force to it. I wasn’t sure if it was a knife or a gun,” said the victim. Weaver was shot twice, in the leg and an inch away from his spine. He’s been sentenced to a year in jail for the attack, but he admits he’s getting off easy. “It was just a lesson learned. I wish I hadn’t played the game at all,” said Weaver. Source: WILX…
