Deceased Man’s Gold Coins, Bullion Auctioned In Nevada

CARSON CITY, Nev., (UPI) — Officials in a Nevada city said the cousin of a man who died with a treasure trove of gold bullion and coins is set to inherit more than $6 million.

Carson City Clerk Alan Glover said more than 2,600 gold and silver coins were divided into six lots and auctioned Tuesday at the Carson City Courthouse for $3,192,400, ABC News reported Wednesday.

The coins, along with a stash of gold bullion auctioned for $3.5 million in February, belonged to Walter Samaszko Jr., 69, who died in his home of heart problems. Officials said Arlene Magdanz of San Rafael, Calif., Samaszko’s first cousin, was determined to be his closest living relative and will receive the profits from the auctions.

Glover said Magdanz has been “overwhelmed” by the attention brought about by her inheritance and is attempting to remain out of the spotlight.

“It’s like winning the lottery,” Glover said. “It changed her whole life.”
