Cows Crash Through England Artist’s Roof

LAMORNA, England, Nov. 21 (UPI) — A British artist said she and her loom “miraculously” evaded injury when a pair of cows fell through the roof of her workshop.

Sue Marshall, 77, said she was vacuuming in her Lamorna, England, kitchen when the cows crashed through her roof and landed next to her loom, the BBC reported Thursday.

Marshall said the cows, which were not injured, broke through a fence in a field overlooking the building.

“I heard a terrific crash. I ran outside thinking a tree had come down,” Marshall said. “Then I noticed a hole in the roof and a cow looking at me through the door. It was skidding about on wool and a broken table and skylight.”

“Each one miraculously missed my loom,” she said.

Marshall said the farmer next door has reinforced the fence to make sure the cows stay contained.

Alan Goddard of insurers Cornish Mutual said the June incident highlights a safety issue.

“This very unusual case really does highlight the importance of keeping boundary fences in good condition,” he said. “Fortunately, no one was physically harmed and neither of the cows suffered any injuries. Livestock owners are potentially liable through common law and statute for accidents caused by animals straying, so land or animal owners should ensure that all fences are kept in reasonable order at all times.”
