Court Confirms Names Of Hariri Suspects

BEIRUT, Lebanon, July 29 (UPI) — A U.N. tribunal Friday officially named the Hezbollah members indicted in the 2005 assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.

The Special Tribunal identified the men as Mustafa Amine Badreddine, Salim Jamil Ayyash, Hussein Hassan Oneissi and Assad Hassan Sabra, The Daily Star of Beirut reported.

The suspects’ names were leaked after the tribunal gave Lebanese prosecutor Saeed Mirza the sealed indictments and arrest warrants June 30.

Hezbollah leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah confirmed July 3 that the men were members but vowed they never would be arrested, “not even in 300 years.”

The tribunal said Friday it was identifying the suspects to increase the chances of arrest, but keeping some parts of the indictment secret to protect continuing investigations.

The involvement of the U.N. court has been a divisive issue in Lebanese politics and led to the collapse of the government of Hariri’s son, Saad Hariri, this winter.

Current Prime Minister Najib Mikati has said his government will cooperate with the tribunal and arrest the suspects if they are in the country.
