AUGUSTA, Maine, (UPI) — A Texas couple in their 80s said they marked their 65th year of marriage by visiting the Maine state Capitol, the 50th state capitol they have visited.
Nita Lou Webb, 81, and Marcine Webb, 86, of San Angelo, said their daughters took them to Maine as a gift for their 65th wedding anniversary, which they will mark in August, and their Friday visit to the Maine Legislature marked the 50th U.S. state capitol they have visited as a couple, the Portland (Maine) Press Herald reported Monday.
The couple received a standing ovation from state representatives when they were introduced by House Speaker Mark Eves.
The couple said their favorite state capitol was New Mexico’s, while Louisiana’s was their least favorite.
Marcine Webb ranked the Maine Capitol as “medium,” but Nita Lou Webb gave it high marks for its people.
“People welcome you with open hearts,” she said. “You have honest and caring people here.”
