Consumption Of Potassium-rich Foods Linked To Lower Risk Of Cardiovascular Disease

March 10, 2010 by

Consumption of potassium-rich foods linked to lower risk of cardiovascular diseaseAccording to a recent study, a high intake of potassium-rich foods, such as bananas, leafy green vegetables and soybeans, may reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, including stroke and coronary artery disease.

Researchers from the University of Naples in Italy analyzed 10 studies that were published between 1966 and 2009 that included nearly 280,000 adults. They discovered that a diet high in potassium was associated with a 19 percent decreased risk of stroke and an 8 percent lower risk of coronary artery disease, according to Health Day News.

The study’s findings were presented on March 3 at the American Heart Association’s Nutrition, Physical Activity and Metabolism conference in San Francisco.

Meanwhile, at the same conference, a study presented by researchers from the Wageningen University in the Netherlands found that a diet high in raw fruits and vegetables may also protect against stroke.

After monitoring more than 20,000 men and women, aged 20 to 65, over a 10-year period, the researchers found that people with a high intake of raw vegetables and fruits were 36 percent less likely to suffer a stroke than those with a low intake of the foods.

The thrust of his article is correct. However, be VERY careful about the quality of the soybeans and soybean products you consume.
The government, in its incompetent wisdom, is allowing inferior, contaminated soybean products to be imported into America. We can’t afford to be indifferent about the quality of drugs or supplements. Why take chances? Either your health is important to you, or you’re playing a twisted version of Russian roulette and hoping for the ‘best.’
Use your head(s), folks. Good health is NOT an accident.

Right on, S C. Soybeans, corn, canola, potatos, tomatoes, lettuce, strawberries have all been genetically modified (GMO) with synthetic protiens and toxins for pesticides and longer self life. this is with the approval of the FDA under Clinton in 1994. This diminishes kidney function so you have a rise in uric acid causing gouty arthritis and leads to hip and knee replacements, inflammation of all joints, skin, hair and nail problems and these new diseases you never heard of 20 years ago. What about autisum and ADHD has skyrocketed since that period. Think about it, you go to Micky D’s and get GMO F/F’s fried in GMO soy, corn, or canola oil and you get a Big MAC or Quarter Pounder with GMO Lettuce, GMO Tomatoes w/mayo made with GMO Soyoil, on a Glutenous wheat bun that is distroying you small intestine, dip your fries in GMO Catsup and they blame all your health problems on the Red Meat because it is high in Purines. While all the time the GMO’s have diminished your kidney function so they won’t filter out the purines from the meat.
It’s not the burger, it’s the bun. It’s not the meat, it’s the wheat, it’s the GMO’s. I tried Jarrod’s diet at Subway (2 subs a day), with all the above mentioned GMO’s add PROCESSED MEATS loaded with gluten, I ate this for 4 days and wound up in the hospital for 2 weeks with my tendons tied in knots, all my joints full of gouty arthritis and swollen like a opposum on the side of the road. The same thing happened when I ate nothing but GMO LETTUCE (bagged) for 3 1/2 days.
If you want Potassium I suggest Blackstrap Molasses with 730mg per tbsp., that = 1 1/2 bananas. Cutting out GMO’s by eating ORGANIC and cutting all GLUTEN I can now eat all the meat, seafood, asparagus, beans, etc. with no harm from the purines in these foods because my kidneys are now working properly.
DON’T EAT, GRAINFED chickens and eggs, FARM raised fish (GRAINFED, full of antibiotics)and GMO FOODS. EAT, FREERANGE chickens and eggs,
WILDCAUGHT fish and ORGANIC veggies and strawberries. Eat at Outback
Steak House and ask for the Gluten free menu, they’ve got it workin’.
Don’t let the Doctors tell you it’s because of your age, you are what you eat. Above all don’t trust the FDA, the CDC, the AARP. Those 3 should be turned over to the FBI. Eat safe and be safe.
