College Republicans Banned From Obama’s Campus Speech

A group of College Republicans who held tickets to an on-campus economy speech by President Barack Obama was denied admittance after civilly protesting the President’s fiscal policies in the hours leading up to the event.

According to The College Fix, “security personnel” Wednesday at the University of Central Missouri turned away the students, who were wearing a variety of Republican accessories and/or Tea Party T-shirts, after they put away their protest signs and attempted to join the 2,500 other ticketholders who’d waited hours to hear the President.

Why? Well, the “security personnel” (never named in the article as the Secret Service or campus security) told the students their political views weren’t the problem, but the President’s safety was.

Wait – isn’t that essentially telling them, in totalitarian fashion, that their political views were the problem?

“It just didn’t make any sense,” said one College Republican official. “A lot of us traveled several hours to watch the speech. We were very disappointed not to be able to attend.”

The College Republicans had joined with others from the State Republican Party for a 60-person protest that, according to the article, consisted of holding signs and talking to people passing through. Their protest was held in a “public speech area” of the campus and was nowhere within sight, or earshot, of the building where Obama delivered the speech, nor of those ticketholders who had already queued up to be let inside. The report indicates that no other groups or individuals who held tickets were scrutinized or turned away in similar fashion.

Obama’s speech Wednesday marked one stop along his newly-launched Nationwide tour to evangelize the President’s economic policy and stump on jobs growth.

Personal Liberty

Ben Bullard

Reconciling the concept of individual sovereignty with conscientious participation in the modern American political process is a continuing preoccupation for staff writer Ben Bullard. A former community newspaper writer, Bullard has closely observed the manner in which well-meaning small-town politicians and policy makers often accept, unthinkingly, their increasingly marginal role in shaping the quality of their own lives, as well as those of the people whom they serve. He argues that American public policy is plagued by inscrutable and corrupt motives on a national scale, a fundamental problem which individuals, families and communities must strive to solve. This, he argues, can be achieved only as Americans rediscover the principal role each citizen plays in enriching the welfare of our Republic.

Having an opposing view is a threat to the Presidents(I use the term loosely) safety? They had tickets.

Want to try again without insulting our intelligence?

    • Ron r

By peaceful you mean disrupting the speech and being being booed by the pro Obama crowd so that fixed news and thus site could say they were threaten with bodily harm . No thanks, they were there to disrupt and they were foiled.

      • John Woodbury

Wow, such a great comment. Your source is ____? Or are you like your great leader all knowing and all seeing? How do you know what they were going to do? You, mate, need to wake the freak up and figure out what is happening. Republican/Democrat is just a game, in fact they are the same broken record.

        • Gary

Even if they were there to disrupt, since when is their right to assemble covered by the first amendment squashed since they “might” disrupt? If the President can’t handle tough reaction from the crowds in America, he should stay in his bubble in the White House. He is in fact the President of the ENTIRE United States, not just of the sycophants who worship him.

          • Ron r

Oh, so when it’s time to disrupt and disrespect he is the president of the entire country. Other times he’s just an unchristian Muslim Kenyan . Gotcha!!!

          • Gary

Just like when Bush was the President of the entire United States, to include the “Bush lied, people died” crowd. Actually, these students probably weren’t even disruptive. It is just this President is too thin-skinned to hear dissenting opinions. i thought it was patriotic to dissent? At least it was when Cindy Sheehan was doing it.

      • JimH

Hi Ron, The article says that security wouldn’t let these people, that had tickets in, because they were a threat to Obama’s safety.
How did they ever arrive at that conclusion?
You know for a fact that they were there to disrupt. You know what happens when you ass-u-me.
Why wouldn’t security say they weren’t allowed because they would be a disruption, instead of making up this safety threat to Obama lie?

        • Ron r

Are you serious, they were just going to sit and listen ? Give me a break, since when has the right missed a chance to not only interrupt but disrespect this president???????

          • JimH

Hi Ron, I’ll ask again. If the reason security didn’t want them there was because they would be disruptive, why make up the lie about fearing for Obama’s safety?
Being in disagreement with an administrations policy isn’t a safety issue.
Just because it is your preconceived notion and your prejudice that these young people were there to make trouble, doesn’t prove that they were.
I doubt they were as much a threat to his safety as they were to his ego.

      • Ringgo1

“Peaceful” is your interjection, trying no doubt to create your own scene. Too bad for you.

      • chocopot

Hey, idiot. That is what the Left does: shout down speakers with whom they disagree since they know their ideas cannot stand up to any rational discussion. Conservatives do not do that – the record and the facts are there if you want to check on it. The history of the Left in politics is one long string of violence. Moron.

        • Ron r

Hey dumb a&& both sides do it. You name calling primate. Well so much for name calling. Both side do it .

          • chocopot

Saying both sides do it is like saying both blacks and whites commit crimes, but leaving out the rather relevant fact that blacks do it at approximately 10 times the rate that whites do. My point is that you need to read some history books – real ones, not those written by Howard Zinn, who should have worked for Joe Stalin. Leftist movements use violence, terror, and murder as their chief method of attaining and retaining power, and have been doing so since the advent of Marxism. During the 20th century alone, Leftist movements were responsible for the deaths of more than 100 million innocent people, a level of carnage otherwise unheard of in human history. As for shouting down speakers, I suggest you read some newspaper reports about what takes place at, just as one example, college gatherings where conservatives are speaking (during the rare instances when the nearly always Leftist administrations even permit them to have a gathering); the normal result is that the Leftist demonstrators who invariably attend do not allow the speaking to go on without heckling or outright shouting down of the speakers. I challenge you to find even ONE similar instance at a Leftist college gathering. So, no, both sides don’t do it. And you are still a MORON.

          • Ron r

Oh, chocopot, tell your mom her moron said hi.

          • chocopot

You really are an a–hole, aren’t you? You know you lost the argument, so this is the best you can do? Pathetic.

          • Ron r

There you go again with the name calling. I lost nothing this is a discussion page not dungeons and dragons.

        • WaitWhat?

Wasn’t it the Tea Party who started an organized tactic of attending Town Halls for no reason other than to shout down those politicians with whom they disagreed? Where is the equivalent push from the left?

          • chocopot

No, you are incorrect. There was no such “organized tactic.” Questioning their elected representatives, who almost always ignore the questions since they do not want to have to answer them, is not the same as shouting them down. It is only reasonable to expect constituents of any leaning to get angry at an elected official who has come to answer their questions but then does not because he/she does not like the questions. And as I explained to Ron r above, the Left has a very long history of not simply interrupting speakers, but of using violence, terror, and murder to attain their goals. The human carnage resulting from that has been nearly immeasurable.

  • Debbie Hogan Tate

Isn’t that discrimination? There are laws against that!!

    • Ron r

No it was not and there are none.

  • mark

No, this isn’t a sign of a totalitarian society. In totalitarian societies, such protestors are arrested immediately, imprisoned, tortured, and then executed. They are not just told they cannot attend a speech. Do a little investigation on how political opponents of Adolf Hitler, Josef Stalin, and Mao Zedong were treated – or rather liquidated. Then stop making ludicrous analogies between the United States of today and those notorious actual totalitarian societies that existed in the past. This website would never be allowed to function in such societies – or all its authors would be rounded up along with their families, tortured and shot. Such ridiculous exaggerations as made in this and other articles only trivialize the horrific violence and injustice that true totalitarian societies visited upon humanity.

    • Sam

mark, we are headed for a totalitarian society. It’s only a matter of time if people like you don’t wake up. We are on the PATH that leads to tyranny and we will end up like the rest if we don’t stand up and vote out these liars.

      • Quester55

Wasting Time on a FIXED VOTING that will never take place is like Shutting the gate after the herd get out.
The Time to Act is NOW!!
Why Else would Obama be willing to transport over 12,000 Russian Soldiers?

        To play golf???

    • Reddy Martin

Sometimes exaggeration is needed to wake up the uninformed, or misinformed voter…because the totalitarian regimes started by people believing the lies, and blindly surrendering themselves to the oppressive hammer that is to follow, when the point comes that the citizenry is unarmed, & stripped of their Constitutional rights. Nazi Germany came about at a time when the economy went in the toilet…hello! We have a president who has authorized massive spying techniques on the ordinary citizen, & drones to kill people who disagree (under the guise of their being ‘terrorists’). You tell me, what’s the difference…we are now just at the beginning stages of a massive horror show to come…all the indications are clearly there…NOW.

    • Quester55

Boy, The Absolute Waste of time, your flippant Observation turned out to be.!
you seem to forget, either in the Past or the present, all Things have a beginning, Not everyone was Rounded up & shot the First Day when Hitler First started his Rule. And as Such, We are still in our embryonic stage where Obama’s Dictatorship Starts, Yet he’s Setting up his Stage Sooner than Anyone is willing to believe.

    • Whackajig

Mark must be so ignorant the he fails completly to recognize that no totalitarian society started out as totally totalitarian. The creep to totallity is gradual so that revolt is less likely. ovomit is on the way to a dictatorship, I will leave it to you to decide how close we are to being total.

      • mark

No, actually that is a complete historical myth. A little over a month after he came to power, following the Reichstag Fire, Hitler imposed a ferocious dictatorship on Germany with all constitution rights voided. This occurred a mere six weeks after his election. Mussolini did the virtually the same, as did Lenin, Mao, Franco, Pinochet, etc. Once they come to power, these folks established fierce and immediate dictatorships suspending all, and I do mean all, civil liberties. This notion of creeping totalitarianism is sheer bunk, an historical myth. It hardly ever happens. What does happen a lot, constantly, are rapid military coups and immediate seizures of power either very quickly after an election or without an election all together. There is no history of this in the United States which as a Constitutional, democratic republic has strong protections against such absolute seizures of power and suspension of all liberties. Even during the Civil War when the capital was threatened with capture, elections were still held. the churches were still open, newspapers were still printed, even though the rights to habeus corpus were suspended in the case of spies, Southern agents, and partisans who operated in the North with the goal of overthrowing Lincoln’s elected government.

  • CamanoArtistMom

This administration is all about control, lies and propaganda! They do not care about the majority of Americans.

    • Whackajig

Unfortunately, now the majority of Americans are takers not makers. ovomit’s concern is with his voting base and those also are the takers not the makers.

Liberals cannot bear to have their ideas proved wrong, especially in a very public way like the bankruptcy of Detroit, proving many years of liberal rule a huge bust. When people protest, Obama loses face, and his ultra liberal ways are open to ridicule. Obama is so arrogant he can’t stand to lose face.

  • jay

Bobble heads need only to apply…..

Doesn’t surprise me at all. This administration has to be the most arrogant group ever, starting with the race bater potus.

  • james

hey mark. why don’t you do a full investigation of hitler before you show your ignorance. when he first rose up he claimed to be a Christian who honored god and the catholic church. many tyrants don’t begin with totalitarianism but deceive and dumb down the people to eventually get there. if you cant see Obama working the people than your either dumbed down, deceived or both!

    • Quester55

Many a Dictator, has Played the Christian Card & ALL have FAILED to Live Long Lives. Those lies started in Rome to fool True Jesus followers, the trick worked & Many True, Jesus Named Believers where Murdered.
Crimes of every kind have been committed by Liars , labeling themselves as Christians, To entice the Citizens to Hate & Hunt Down True , Jesus Named Christians, AS before, This Worked & Thousands of True Believers where Murdered By the FALSE CHURCH of ROME!
In the Later Days, A IRISH Group ” Calling themselves CATHOLIC CHRISTIAN’S ? ” , Bombed Hundreds for having different Political Views.
the Result, Christian’s Became a Dirty Word.
Today is NO Exception, Your Current Dictator/President, Is a PRIME EXAMPLE of a LIAR claiming to be a Christian, While Holding a True Belief in MUSLIM Theology, yet the UNBELIEVERS in GOD, Believe OBAMA, the End Effect, The World Hates The mere Mention of the Title Christian & Seek The Total Destruction of ALL Things & people that Call themselves Christian!
And the Silly Thing is; The Followers & True Believers in JESUS CHRIST, NEVER Referred of themselves as being Christians, In the Beginning, But was Given That LABEL In a Northern City of Antioch.
But Few Ever Read Their Bibles & Fewer still Truly Believe in JESUS.
& Then you talk about being Dumbed Down,?
” Choose you this day whom you will serve, but as for me & my house, We’ll serve the Lord.” ( not a direct quotation)

      • Ron r

I’m sorry I missed the part of the constitution that said you had to be Christian to be president or be righteous. Seems that Christian deal didn’t work out to well for the American Indian or people of color period. I bet it’s working great for you though.

        • Jan

I’m sorry but I reread both of the posts above yours and found nothing that even hinted at them saying anything about having to be a Christian to be president. Let me guess-you failed reading comprehension in school!!!!!

          • Ron r

And you flunked comprehension, which is why you missed my point .

          • Quester55

No Ron R. Jan didn’t miss your point, how could she, you didn’t offer a Point, your only offering was criticism of CHRISTIANS & how you preconceive, their Failure in helping out The Indians & WE of the Black Races !

In 2008 Obama possessed immense popularity, opportunity and power, bestowing on him a golden opportunity to bring American values, morals and achievements to greater heights.

Instead he chose to become one of the great and tragic misfortunes that ever beset America. He and his minions chose arrogant demagoguery, lies, corruption, moral decline, scandal cover-ups, foreign alienation… and he chose to resurrect RACISM!

So, is this how he brings America together? We will get relief only when he is impeached and removed.

In the 2012 election there were reports that the Republican inspectors were kicked out of as many as 25 polling locations by the Dems. A judge ordered that they be reinstated.

In April 2012 President Obama signed bipartisan legislation (unbelievable!) that might make your first amendment rights of free speech a felony.

The legislation, H.R. 347, now allows Secret Service agents to decide where and when you have the right to speak freely. This legislation, supported by both parties, gives the Secret Service the ability to set up “NO FREE SPEECH ZONES”. In these zones, it would become a felony punishable by up to one year in jail to protest against the government.

Your right to protest, your right to petition the government and your right to assemble with others have now been taken away thanks to our federal government.
