College Course Free To Constitution Knowledge Seekers

Knowledge is power and, as the Federal government continues in its best efforts to strip any power or personal liberties enjoyed by individual citizens, it is more important than ever to know your rights as an American, why you have them and what they mean.

Hillsdale College, the institution of higher education located in Michigan that has been a historic champion of liberty, is offering a public online class to teach interested Americans about the basics of the U.S. Constitution. Whether you’re a Constitution expert or just familiar enough with the basic principles of the document to know you have rights, this 10-week course will be a learning experience. And the best part, it is free; the college does, however, ask that you provide a small optional donation.

Signing up for the course will give you access to 10 pre-recorded lectures that last about 40 minutes. Lectures and other study materials will be released by noon each Monday, beginning Feb. 20. Along with the lectures, students will have access to the same readings, study guides and quizzes that are used to teach the Constitution class on the college’s campus. Once released, the materials are available to view at your convenience.

Hillsdale has offered similar Constitution-related courses to the public before. The college doesn’t just talk the talk when it comes to liberty; it walks the walk. After being told by the Federal government in 1975 that it must document that it would comply with certain admissions mandates to inhibit discrimination, the college protested that it had never discriminated against anyone and had never accepted Federal taxpayer subsidies of any sort. For those reasons the college did not comply. In 1984, the Supreme Court ruled that colleges accepting student Federal aid or loans were indeed direct recipients of Federal funding. The school, fearing more Federal meddling, stopped accepting those forms of tuition assistance. In 2007, Hillsdale decided to no longer accept State of Michigan taxpayer subsidies earmarked for student financial aid, thereby making the college completely independent of taxpayer support.

Well this is some of the most valuable news that has come by today. Courses in the constitution. I would be in favor of having classes in the constitution beginning in the first grade at all schools. At least have it read a number of times a year to the students. In English ,and if you cant’t understand English be returned to the first grade till you do. But get it before you are turned loose on the rest…

      Gottaplenty,
thought I’d let you know. I’m 61 and I registered for the course today! I don’t think a person can ever be too old to learn about their founding documents!

  • TML

    “Knowledge is power…”

Knowledge is not power. Knowledge is potential power… when poorly applied, is nothing more than wasted energy.

    • CJ

Looks like you need more knowledge. Power is defined AS the potential or ability to act. When that potential or power is applied, the results is work. A task is not accomplished until the work is done, not the power is done. Back to the books!

      • TML

I sure didn’t expect anyone to get so upset about a philosophical statement, lol. Get a grip

  • Angel Wannabe

Think of this as an opportunity to learn who doesn’t care about the Constitution – or freedom – or being safe – or knowing the true character of those who go to Washington.
How many utopians will use this opportunity to LEARN what they didn’t learn in grade school AND high school? Isn’t it hard to ‘care’ and ‘not care’ at the same time?
Can it be said that utopians despise freedom? It does seem that way. I wonder how many of the RETARDS we sent to Washington don’t know squat about the Constitution. How many members of the prostitute media know anything about the Constitution?
In other words, people, we are INFESTED with those who have no use for the Constitution. They will get in your face and tell you how much they CARE and how COMPASSIONATE they are and how much they want ‘the best’ for others, but they HATE the Constitution. Serving two masters is a polite way to look at them.
In some respects, it tells us who some of our enemies are. Some of them are elected. God help us. Our domestic enemies WON’T.
Learn all you can, folks. It takes much effort and a lot of knowledge to educate those who hate education AND the Constitution.

      Well said SC!

It is a good gesture to educate the general public on the Constitution. Educate them on their rights, but a little too late. Far to many younger generations and new immigrants in this Country who know nothing about the Constitution, The only rights they want to know or care to know is their right to welfare and other entitlement programs. You can take away their freedoms – speech, religion, right to bear arms, right to speedy and fair trial so on and so forth and they will do very little if nothing at all. Take away their welfare and entitlements and watch the nation topple in chaos and destruction.

Furthermore, what good is knowing your rights when you have no one that will enforce the Constitution and protect your rights. Will the Judicial branch enforce you rights (Supreme Court)? How about the Legislative Branch? Will they protect and enforce our rights? Recent history has shown us that neither of these branches will protect or enforce any written word on the Constitution. How about the the Executive Branch? He has displayed that the Constitution means absolutely knowing in his eyes and is simply an outdated document which has no place in this nation in this day and age.

Something that once was the backbone to this nation is know merely become a cancerous tumor in the eyes of the current Administration and to the brainwashed youths of this nation. A nation with no backbone (foundation) will surely collapse eventually.

A Country that is 236 yrs old and has soared past all other Countries that are thousands of years old to become a super power and a world leader, this happened because of the men and woman of the past lived their life fighting for the Country we inherited from their labors only to piss it away because failure to educate. In recent years this once great Country has become merely a below average Country that the rest of the world laughs at, as I have travel around the world in various Countries I see US in the headlines of these foreign publications which basically make the US look like a Road Runner vs Wiley Coyote cartoon.

Take a look at any national event, whether it be Football, Baseball, basketball, Hockey, Nascar and so on, As the National flag is being raised and the National Anthem is being played look around at how many people, mostly younger generations in which merely stand for it without taking their hat off and crossing their heart to show their respect for their Nation if that, many just sit and watch and listen.

Is this lack of Respect for their Nation due to ignorance because of failed teaching by their parents and schools? Or do they just simply have no principles of pride in their Country and could simply care a less. Pride doesn’t guarantee them a welfare check, so I guess that would be a wasted effort to sport.

I support Hillsdale College, and get their monthly newsletter. Read Article I Section, those are the powers that were delegated to Congress. Then read the Bill of Rights, those are the restrictions the people placed upon Congress.

    • James

      ‘Section’ should be ‘Section 8.
