Cindy McCain Raises Eyebrows With Same-sex Marriage Ad

February 1, 2010 by

Cindy McCain raises eyebrows with same-sex marriage adThe wife of former presidential candidate John McCain surprised many when she appeared in an ad supporting gay marriage rights.

Cindy McCain is featured on the website of NoH8Campaign.com—which advocates against California’s Proposition 8, a ballot initiative that bans gay marriage—with a piece of silver duct tape over her mouth and the slogan "No H8" written on her cheek.

"The McCains are one of the most well-known Republican families in recent history, and for Mrs. McCain to have reached out to us to offer her support truly means a lot," wrote Adam Bouska and Jeff Parshley, owners of the site.

They added that her appearance sends the message that same-sex marriage is not a Republican or Democratic issue, but it is an issue of human and civil rights.

Mrs. McCain is not the only member of the Arizona senator’s family that has spoken in support of marriage equality. Her daughter Meghan has appeared in a similar ad on the website and is widely known to have distanced herself from her father’s views on the issue.

According to Yahoo News, Cindy McCain joins a long list of politician’s wives from both sides of the political scene—including Elizabeth Edwards, Michelle Obama and Laura Bush—who have publically expressed views on this issue that are different from those of their husbands.

I’m not surprised. Sen. McCain, imho, is a RINO at best. He and Lyndsy Graham should pull an Arlan Spector and come out of the closet (in more than one way it appears) These progressives must be stopped right after I marry my dog!

    • denniso

I’m pleasantly surprised to see that she is a civilized person…I never would have guessed it.

    • Craig

Kind of a dumb comment. I agree that McCain is a RINO, but his wife supporting gay marriage has nothing to do with him. My girlfriend and I disagree on a lot of issues.

  • J C

Cindy is on the homosexual bandwagon…no big deal.
John was part of an anti-gun campaign in Arizona…neither of these two are conservatives. Just goes to show what a dog and pony show the two party system really is.

    • 4 Comon Sense

This is not a surprise. McCain is a Progressive in the Republican party, just like Obama is a Progressive in the Democratic party. Open your eyes people. We are all on a run-away train and no one can stop it except WE THE PEOPLE. WAKE UP. Now we are going to have a 3.8 Trillion dollar debt for 2011. No wonder he wanted a Spending Freeze for 2011. Did you notice it was a Freeze and not a Cut.

  • http://churchlionjudah@verizon.net B. Lee Pemberton

John McCain is finished. Period. His anti-gun stance was the death knell for his political hopes. Now Cindy has driven a stake through the heart of any possibility of his making a comeback: she has literally shot him out of the sky with the 90% of America’s population who are hetero.

    • Regina 1959

I think what did McCain in, was his choice on picking his VP candidate. Independents were leaning his way until then.

      • 4 Comon Sense

NO, what did McCain in was McCain. He was week. Couldn’t stand up to Obama. Wouldn’t go after Obamas Radical, Socialists mentors and expose Obama for what he really was. No one knew what Obama was. No press conferences. No experience. Regan would have torn Obama apart. McCain had no guts.

      • Tricia, Arizona

Not true. He actually had more votes because of Sarah Palin. I do think Sarah is making a mistake in campaigning with Mccain. I understand her position but as a conservative she really should be working to help elect a conservative.

        • Randy, Kentucky

I agree with Tricia. The only reason I bothered to vote at all was because of Sarah Palin. John McCain is the reason we have Obama as President.

        • phred

Tricia, take this from an Alaskan—Palin is NOT, nor never HAS been a Conservative. I know Rush and the rest portray her as such, but they, and you, sghould read about AGIA, her highest tax increase against the oil companies in history (and we’ve had some REALLY liberal Democrat governors), her give away of between 1/2 and 1.5 BILLION dolllars to a Canadian company, her firing of the Wasilla librarian and the Head of the AK State Troopers, the hiding of her “governing techniques” in personal, rather than State e mails. No, she is every bit as politically liberal as McCain.

          • Joe H.

            Phred,
wasn’t it you that was also saying the other day that Reagan was a rino also??? Are you against all who believe in phreedom or just the conservatives?

  • http://victorbarney@embarqmail.com Victor L Barney

Why should anybody be surprised? Does anybody actually think that John himself is not a progressive in thought?

    • 4 Comon Sense

Right on. McCain was a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Not a true Republican. He has always been a PROGRESSIVE.

  • http://proRepublicanEuropeanUnionist Edwin Formosa

As an European citizen and admirer of the US Conservative spectrum I find myself perplexed with this type of spineless politics

    • John Cook

      Edwin,
As a born-again believer in the U.S. state of Texas, I am , also as perplexed as you! And, I must say it is great to see A fellow conservative say the right things in Europe. Look at the remark from Regina, who has no idea about moral values.
Its not about their personal life style, its their agenda of debauchery and indoctrinating our youth in school saying its ok to be gay. Next its ok to be a pedophile and as NAMBLA says its ok to have man-boy relations. Where does it end? Read Revelation in the Bible, Regina, that’s where it ends!

      • 4 Comon Sense

It is all about their personal Life Style. God’s Word talks about our personal Life Style. Romans chapter 1 talks about our sexual life style. Homosexuality is a SIN. If that’s not an indictment on homosexuality then I don’t know what is.

        • DaveH

If we don’t grant the non-religious people their freedom, we are never going to have consensus in this country. It isn’t about religion. It’s about keeping the Government out of our business. And we will not achieve that goal if we don’t stop all the religious bickering.

          • eyeswideopen

Hands clapping and feet stomping!!!! You are 100% correct. Conservatives won’t allow any representation unless they believe in the religious dogma of the radical right. Most people are not willing to give up their personal freedoms to get the benefit of Conservative fiscal policies.

          • http://BobLivingstonAlternativeMedicine Michelle

Dave, That was a very intelligent and astute comment.

As much as some of the gays are unapealling, I have a problem faulting them because it was not their choice, poor souls were born that way.

I believe it is wrong to shame a person for the way he or she was born, especially when they have no choice over the matter.

The few gays that “tried” typical relationships and marriage turned out to be a disaster. We all should think about the other non-gay half. They would suffer the most in this type of a forced heterosexual relationship.

And finally, anyone’s sexual orientation, as long as they do not flaunt it and are not “in-your-face” type people, are none of our business.

          • Tinwarble

            DaveH,

No, this is not about religion, nor is it about anyone condemning something because it goes against their beliefs due to their religious convictions. It is about the protection of the institution of marriage. No one is trying to take away the freedom of the non-religious, but that does not mean that when someone has a view based on religion and they espouse those views that it is “bickering”.

          • DaveH

bicker: to engage in a petulant or petty quarrel. Sorry, but I have seen a lot of that on these boards in regards to religion.

Is this an Alpha-Male thing? You should not be threatened by me, Tin. I am probably old enough to be your Father.

          • Tinwarble

            DaveH,

No, this isn’t an alpha dog thing. And I’m aware of what bicker means, I just don’t think that someone basing their arguments on their religions values is bickering. I have seen a lot of people trying to disprove peoples religious convictions though. (Not directed at you)

But if you are that old, you might have worse things to worry about, like those “Death Panels” coming after you!! LOL
            I’m no spring chicken!

          • Claire

DaveH–Another good one. You are speaking logic here.

      • Rebecca

Amen John. Everything we are going through right now is a part of prophecy. Revelation talks about false leaders that pretend to be Christians but really aren’t. Mccain being a prime example. In addition, please note that Obama has claimed association with a Christian church but all other indications prove that he is Muslim and will turn on the United States, founded on Judeo-Christian principles, WITH CERTAINTY. Revelation, as you said, tells us the end of the story.

  • Daniel

All I can safely say is that I am glad that I am not in politics, nor do I have such a public profile. I must commend them for preserving their marriage, for this topic is such a fierce divider among people at times that is hard to see how someone how supports gay marriage and one who claims to be opposed to it get along so seemingly well. Then again, this is the games of politics, so who knows what is going on. Perhaps her appearing in the ad is just a political move to bring in that part of the vote despite his campaign speech designed to appeal to the other side of the issue. In which case, you might wonder what is their belief on the issue? Of course, it could just be that she’s for and he’s against, and in that case I must again commend them for keeping their relationship as a couple together.

  • Raggs

This is another smoke screen to blind America!!!
obama is the real culprit here…

    • J C

Actually, Obama is the “latest” culprit here.

  • Wesley W. Harris

No surprises here…but I hardly think that Gay Marriage has anything to do with how one will operate as a representative of the people. John McCain has already demonstrated that he is in this for himself and not the people. Enought said!

    • http://victorbarney@embarqmail.com Victor L Barney

I couldn’t have said it better!

  • RivahMitch

As if “”The McCains are one of the most well-known Republican families in recent history”is a sentence which has any meaning. Dempublicans and Republicrats are interchangeable. As I recall, John McCain is the one who lied to his own supporters during the campaign when he told one “You shouldn’t be afraid of Obama” and “Obama is an honorable man”.

  • Regina 1959

I agree with Cindy McCain – they are humans just like the rest of the population. Time for people to stop interfering with other people’s personal life style.

    • 4 Comon Sense

No problem. The day that they stop trying to change the definition of what marriage is, (Between one man and one woman) and stop trying to say that their lifestyle is normal one and force our children to believe this lie. Keep your immoral lifestyle in the bedroom and do what you want. Don’t try to force this Country in believing that your homosexual lifestyle is moral.

      • TC

AMEN to that. You nail it right on the head.

      • JC

I don’t think Cindy McVain sees it as a problem anyway. I think it’s pretty common activity on her planet. I have to hand it to her though, she’s adopted to life on Earth very well…almost like a human female. And so life like! ;)

        • denniso

It’s kind of fun to watch the ‘conservatives’ fighting from within. The idea that allowing anyone else to be married legally is doing harm to ‘normal’ marriage is ridiculous. How glorious is ‘normal’ marriage anyway? Isn’t it divine how 1/2 end up in divorce and 1/2 of those remaining married are not happy. Ever heard of spousal abuse and even murder in ‘normal’ marriage? How about incest and abuse of kids in ‘normal’ families? If your marriage is threatened by others view of what marriage is thae you’re in trouble. If people want to keep some from being married within their church, fine, fight that battle w/ your particular relogion. Leave people alone to live and marry how they please. Please…

          • Joe H.

            denniso,
Are you trying to show your true colors here? I’ll ask your question in reverse, If you aren’t gay then why does it bother you so much???

    • http://windstream lee

Who and where was the instution of marriage started? not by goverment, not by any man or woman, But by God in the garden Eden, So where do you idoits think you have the right to change Gods law of marriage, there would be no difference than a woman and a dog getting married than two women or two men getting married. God said a man shall leave his father and mother and cleave to his wife [a woman] animals are smarter than these people who think that we should have gay marriage. Two men cannot reproduce nor can two women can not either. there for why do youall want to get married.

      • TC

I agree with you 100%. But in the long run they will ultimatly pay for thier wrong thinking. The biggest thing we can do is pray for those people.

      • Dylan O

Like someone already mentioned, leave the religious dogma out of the discussion. Laws should not be based on mythological stories about creation.

    • phred

      Thank You, Regina 1959 !

    • Rebecca

Regina, Be that as it may, that is not the point here. The point is that the McCain’s campaign played to the Moral Majority. Now they are as much as coming out to say that they only pretended to be conservative for the Presidential Campaign.

  • Les Strawn

Nothing the McCain’s do surprises me. They are on the shady edge of the Progressive movement. In the 2004 election we had no choice. We could turn left or we could turn hard left, either way the progressive movement won. The danger to the country is not Republican or Democrat it is not understanding the Cloward-Piven and Saul Alinsky strategy to turn the US into a Nanny state. Bush and McCain marched in step to please the rumble of the American public. The American public got fooled by glitter and hype and ended up electing a puppet. The McCain’s still don’t know what happened. John never recovered from his experience as a POW and Cindy does whatever she wants. John is a has been, She rules the roost! Is she homosexual… Who knows? but her husband is a phony!

    • DaveH

We always have a choice Les. Did it do any good to put up a Liberal Republican? No. It’s time for the die-hard Republicans to strongly petition their party to stop putting up RINOs. Tell them that you will no longer vote for them if they don’t put up candidates that will promise to cut back on the size of Government dramatically.

      Better yet, Vote Libertarian!

      • Tinwarble

I think that’s what I’ve been saying all along, except the vote Libertarian party thing (Ha!Ha!). But conservatives need to take back the Republican Party from the Progressives that have hijacked it. It is not the Republicans that have been the problem, it’s the Republican Leadership that has told us which candidate is the best to win, not allowing us to pick who we want. It’s time for conservatives to get involved and the Elephants need to kick the RINO’s to the curb.

        • Claire

Tinwarble–I will have to agree with you on this one–this is the exact reason I turned away from the Republican party. They let politics get in the way and they carried it to the limit. As far as I am concerned, they shot themselves in the foot. They need positive leadership and right now they don’t have it.

          • Joe H.

            Claire,
they do have one if they would use him!!! His name is Duncan Hunter!!! He ran in the primaries but the repubs wouldn’t mention him, the MSM wouldn’t give him airtime, and the people didn’t know about him till it was too late!!! check him out!

          • American Liberal

Bravo Cindy McCain…..if two adults want to
marry , then they should have the right….and if her opinions diffrent from her husbands , good for her…

          • Tinwarble

            JoeH,

            Exactly!!!!

  • Robb

Aren’t we supposed to be for “Personal Liberty?” I assume that doesn’t mean just that liberty with which we agree, does it? I understand that your disagreement comes from a biblical perspective, but come on folks, liberty isn’t limited to that which we agree. How is anyone hurt by allowing two people of the same sex, marry? Are you? I’m not. I believe that if there is a God in heaven, he doesn’t care either. I know all of the biblical references, so don’t preach to me. If we want to stop the idiots on the left from imposing their morality on us, then we must define liberty as it is… something that is independent of anything else. If you want to allow for personal liberty for all, then you must hold your nose at some point and tolerate liberty that has no harm for you personally. This is one of those issues. That’s not to say accept it, just tolerate it. Do so right up to the point where it negatively impacts you personally and you will understand real liberty.

    • Kat

      @Robb:

      It won’t stop there.

    • DaveH

I basically agree Robb, except we aren’t talking about Liberty here. We are talking about Government involvement. Government force is not Liberty.

      • Robb

How is it government force? All the government can do is prohibit an activity. That’s not force unless you are talking about wanting to force them to NOT marry each other. It is force to stop people from allowing it; although that’s not really force as much as it is a confirmation of individual liberty. Who cares who marries who? Government interference in the freedom to do with you life that which you want is an imposition of morality. Sorry but you don’t have a right to mandate or define morality for me.

        • eyeswideopen

          Robb, well said.

        • DaveH

          Robb,
If they simply rescind a law prohibiting Gay marriage, I’m all for that. But I doubt, given past experience, that would be the case. They would probably pass a law forcing ministers, priests, or other religious officials to marry Gays. And maybe something even more intrusive.
Personally, I don’t see why anybody would fight to engage in the legal trap of marriage. And I know, it’s for the benefits that are given to couples. But I think it would be more beneficial to work to change that condition where certain lifestyles get different benefits.

        • DaveH

          And Robb,
Per your last sentence, I don’t want to legislate your morality. I just don’t want you legislating mine.

        • JC

Robb here’s another side of it…the only reason government is involved in allowing, disallowing or licensing marriage is for tax purposes. The process is so that they can assess a couple as one tax unit. So from a personal liberty stand point, my marriage is a matter between me, my church and two families. I grant the same rights to gay couples and say it’s none of the governments business in the first place. The very notion that we’ve asked government to intervene in this and many other aspects of our lives is a monstrous idea that needs to be irradicated.

        • Joe H.

          Robb,
and you don’t have the right to tell ME what is moral!!! So I guess we have a standoff here!!! Put it to a vote of the people and see where it lands!!!

    • http://Don'thaveone Sally

OK, with that viewpoint, then the Mormons can have 50 wives if they choose. If gays can Marry (which does absolutely nothing for them but say I’ll show you) so they get married, it just isn’t legal in the eyes of the law. Like I said if that gets passsed, I don’t want to ever see a man with many wives going to jail either!!!!!

    • Jan Bennett

      Robb,
It seems that you basically believe in creating God in YOUR image. If God’s principles don’t suit your sophisticated feelings about morality, then you create a “God in a box” who you can control, and misquote Scripture to make things the way YOU want. You said “I believe that if there is a God in heaven, he doesn’t care either. I know all of the biblical references, so don’t preach to me.” Who made you God’s spokesman? You may know some biblical references but obviously you don’t know what those words mean or the One who wrote them. Why don’t you let Jesus tell you who he is? Read for yourself, man, without your prejudices and worldly “wisdom”. What would Jesus do? Jesus would love the sinner…no doubt about that. But he would not condone sin. People sin in private all the time. But we do not need to encourage them by giving them special laws so they can feel good about it, thereby affecting the rest of us including children. Because if you change the rules, you are affecting and influencing people with your brand of humanism, a religion that worships “ME” and flaunts ME and makes ME more important that anything and anyone. When has selfishness done the world any good? Just redefine anything you don’t like. What arrogance. True, I don’t have the right to dictate morality for you, but God does. I have the freedom to say “government is not a higher power than the Creator of the Universe.” It cannot make right something God has declared wrong. He gives you free choice to sin anyway. That’s between you and God. But that is NO reason to make it the law of the land. I think that’s called anarchy–personal liberty to do whatever you want…where you make up your own rules. Each person makes up his/her own moral compass. To some, lies and rage are perfectly OK. Extreme? Why? Who decides? On what basis do we say lies and rage are not good? On the basis of the Creator and Sustainer of the universe. You can trace it all the way back to God. Who are we to contradict him? He’s got the big picture. We do not. Personal liberty does not trump God. If you think it does, you are in for a rude awakening. And before you flip out, why don’t you try reading His words and and having an understanding of what He says before you continue speaking for Him.

      • usmadgirl

        Jan Bennett,

        Well said!

      • Curtis S

Oh here we go again! Jan are you saying god wrote the bible? Jan are you saying every American’s life must ruled by your bible? There can be no intelligent debate on any topic whenever religion creeps into the equation. Personal Liberty is just that… personal. As long as the pursuit of personal liberty brings no harm to others, people should live and let live and keep their noses out of other people’s business.

  • http://proRepublicanEuropeanUnionist Edwin Formosa

    @Regina1959
Soon some Americans will regard acknowledging the difference between boys, girls and elephants as “interfering with other people’s personal life style”.

  • http://zoomtown.com kevin

Goes to show whats wrong with this nation….. money ,sin first and maybe God if it gets too bad… by then do you think He will answer? If anyone believes in God then they know whats sin and what isnt.

    • DaveH

You don’t have to believe in God to believe in being respectful to your fellow human being.

  • Priscilla Perez

Yes, because John McCain is a Progressive and that is why he lost to Obama because why vote for the fake when you can vote for the real thing.

    • 4 Comon Sense

You need to open your eyes and ears. Yes McCain is a Progressive. Obama is a worse Progressive. Where have you been these last 12 months. Obama’s disdain for the Constitution, his lies about Transparency in his administration, his not having any Lobbyists on his team and his greedy power hungry ideas. Now we are going to have a debt for 2011 at the cost of 3.8 Trillion dollars. We already have a unsustainable debt now.

      • DaveH

Priscilla is correct. Voting for the lesser of two evils is still just evil.

  • http://PersonalLibertyDigest Gary

I think the way to settle the issue of Gay marriage and Gays to serve openly in the military is this. First, All Gays should stop paying taxes since they are not afforded the personal freedom that heterosexuals are. Secondly, All Gays should resign from the military, truly leaving it to be an Army of ONE. Lastly, All Gays should renounce their U.S. Citizenship and move to Canada where Freedom Rings……

    • http://Don'thaveone Sally

Yes, yes, yes, especially the last line.

    • DaveL

No thanks Gary… we’ve been through that before with the Draft Dodgers. They come here, use our country as a safe heaven and then as soon as amnesty is declared they run back home to the US. If you want change, be big kids and fight for your rights in your own country.

      • JC

        Well said.

  • gates

Take a good, long look at the picture. What does it ACTUALLY say?
    It says:
“Women are oppressed”.(by whom?)”Women have no say in these matters”.(who keeps them quiet?)It says:
“Women should join the liberators”.”Liberators are pro gay”. Affirmative action towards “evening up the score”. Re-distribute the power!, (Redistribute the wealth).

All this is a modern progressive/marxist message that minorities of any shape or shade should abandon a cohesive ideal, like the U.S. Constitution, and join the riot of special interests that consistantly targets male and caucasian, American and capitalist.
Tolerance is not advanced by “in your face” politics, and the vanguard of the Progressives are militant union, militant green, militant gay, etc. You see, if you happen to be hetero, or white or capitalist,or Christian …any part of the real mainstream…or just non activist, you are the enemy of Progressives.

The progressive tactic is to push your button, whatever that button may be, and draw you away from the equality and broad union which is the great American ideal. That freedom is won by liberation from government. Not granted by government.

    • Warrior

      Well put.

  • http://windowslive BILL MILLER

The McCain Family likes attention and they have enough capital to buy the spot light.I say,Stay with our Bible and the American Constitutional Rights that are being threaten upon.I just feel that WE THE PEOPLE have a chance to regain our country if WE THE PEOPLE stand tall and vote out the progressive that wants to change our Constitutional Rights and abandon the Bible.Thier power and pay-off tricks won’t make it easy but WE THE PEOPLE have the right tool to suceed, “FAITH”.

  • DaveH

I don’t care who marries who. What I do care about is the Government getting involved and passing special protections for gays or anybody else. And I don’t want Government trying to force Religious officials to marry gays in their churches if they don’t want to.
The Constitution guaranteed us Freedom of Association. And forcing Gays on people that don’t want to associate with them goes contrary to that Freedom.

    • coal miner

      DaveH,

I agree with you a 100 percent. This one time I do agree with you.Religion is a private matter,so is smoking on your own property.

      • Curtis S

Yeah I agree… churches, justices of the peace shouldn’t have to perform marriage rites to gay couples (or any couple). In a capitalist society someone will recognize a niche market and provide the service.

        • JC

          That is a fact.

    • eyeswideopen

How is the government forcing gays on people who don’t want to associate with them?

      • DaveH

        Eyes,
I’m not a lawyer, so I’m not really on top of what special protections Gays may be getting currently. I do know that there is constant pressure to give them special protections.
As an example of special protection, I find the whole “Hate Crimes” controversy to be complete BS. Any violent crime should be treated the same regardless of a person’s sex or sexual orientation. I find it insulting to think that somebody might think my murder less important because I am not Gay.

        • DaveH

          DaveH,

The only reason the stupid “hate crimes” bill was passed was because it was included in the bill to fund the military (if I’m not mistaken). If the Republicans hadn’t voted to pass it, they would’ve looked like a bunch of hypocritical creeps to vote against the military funding. Violence against anyone is hate-filled. Hate is hate & crime is crime! No one’s life is better than someone elses’. That’s discrimination, plain & simple & something else we need to have reversed.

I wrote my representatives to complain about their rolling a bunch of bills into one big bundle with issues included being on the opposite ends of the spectrum to have to vote on all at once. Each bill should be voted on separately…period! That’s probably how these thugs will get their health care passed. They’ll put bits & pieces in different bills on things that conservatives approve in order to get it ALL passed! That’s how so much of the crap we have now happened! I swear, our pets have more common sense than our government!

          • Joe H.

            USmadgirl,
That is a good idea and it would also go a long way towards balancing the budget!!!! If a bill can’t pass on its own merit, it shouldn’t be able to be piggy backed on something that can!!!!

  • Dan-o

Robb states: How is anyone hurt by allowing two people of the same sex, marry? Are you? I’m not. I believe that if there is a God in heaven, he doesn’t care either. I know all of the biblical references, so don’t preach to me.

This is the kind of ignorance that got us here in the first place.
without Church in state all you have is corruption and immorality.

    • phred

Dan-o, looks like we should move YOUR church out to sea—immediately! Before more of the civil rights of minorities are quashed!
If we don’t KEEP religion and government separate we will soon be living under the theocratic dictatorship that the founding fathers seemed to work so hard to avoid. But, then, there are a large and loud group of Christian Fundamentalists that believe they have the right to dictate to everybody else, and they ( you sound like one of them with your comments, Dan-o) will stop at nothing until ONLY their views shall be allowed.

  • Mark Supak

I hope she keeps the tape over her mouth. I wish she’d talk her husband into putting tape over his mouth, too. At least until he and Lindsay Graham get voted out of office.
    I voted for Sarah Palin.

    • Ernie

      Well said Mark!

  • rwnut

The Presidential race was about “making black history”. All the candidates were forced out of race so RINO McCain could take the fall. The man was already a leftwing liberal at heart! We must elect J.D.Hayworth and get rid of this turncoat! By the way,I think Scott Brown will be the next John McCain. The first two people he met with in D.C.was Kerry and McCain He can’t wait to cross the aisle and get in bed with a liberal. These are the RINO’s that are destroying the conservative republican party.Until we stop electing these political prostitutes, things won’t change much.
No punishment, in my opinion,is to great for the man who can build his greatness upon his country’s ruin. George Washington.

  • Ernie

… and we thought we’d be getting a true Conservative if we had voted for McCain in 2008?! Seems there was no lesser of evils to pick from after all. McCain is a NWO globalist just like the Bushes, Clinton and Soetoro. Scott Brown is also beginning to show his true colors as well – supporting abortion. It seems there are no real Constitutional conservatives left to support. Woe is America …

  • D. Albert Brookbank sr

As long as they keep their hands off me and my family they can continue their can path to hxll. In the end they will answer to God. I shall say a prayer for them.

    • Curtis S

Albert you don’t need to pray for the gays… god already knows… he made them that way.

      • Joe H.

        Curtis,
when you show me Proof positive that Gays are born that way, Maybe I’ll give creedence to your thoughts!!!

  • BonnieMW

It is a difficult issue. I was raised a conservative Christian but until you have a close family member living in a gay relationship you don’t understand who they are and where they are coming from. I have 2 beautiful grandchildren being raised by two mothers in a very loving and caring situation. They don’t all choose this life. It was their lot and they can only do the best with it. I cannot judge. I have divorced twice. This life on earth is not perfect.
I know people who attend church regularly and our still married to the same person after 30 years but absolutely hate each other.

I think I would rather see gays in loving monogamous relationships than in relationships with many multiple partners. If they are going to raise children they need legal protection for the childrens sake.

When you first realize your child is in a gay relationship it can be the most heart wrenching situation you may ever have to experience but
once you come to terms with it, you will realize you made the right decision to stay connected and not to judge.

    • phred

The fact is, if you are a heterosexual, you are a hu-man being. If you are a gay, you are still a hu-man being. In the United States, hu-man beings are held to have certain inalienable rights. Read the first 10 amendments to the Constitution, then read and REread the 14th!
The inalienable rights are NOT those of certain people of certain religions, but ALL MEN (I take that to mean hu-mankind, not just the adult males). We seem to believe here that we all have the right to keep and bear arms, doesn’t seem to be under some special religion, or sexual orientation. We all agree that free speech is for everybody. The right to nonincrimination of self? Ditto. Yet, for some reason, we wish to deny these same civli rights based on a persons sexual orientation? Maybe we should add some restriction to the second amendment—one must be military or former military, or something like that. And, in order that we have religious freedom, one has to go to church—an APPROVED church— at least 3 times per month, and tithe faithfully, else, don’t even SPEAK the word “God”!
To sue for redress of grievances? Only if you can prove that you’ve been a member of a political party for at least a dozen years!
Can anybody see how unAmerican it is to restrict marriage to heterosexual couples only?
And, I ask, also, just exactly how DOES it cause me harm, or you harm, if two men, or two women want to marry, and get some of those tax and inhertiance breaks that are so freely allowed for opposite sex cou[ples? Or, for that matter, how does it harm anyone if a farmer marries his favorite apple tree? This question was asked before here, and the only answer I saw was a call to combine religion and government!
Marriage is NOT a religious thing, except that most couples want to have it have soemthing to do with their beliefs in a Supreme Being. Marriage is a civli ceremony, it is statutized, it is a part of the political process. In other words, it has to do with government, not with religion. And, even if you may believe that it DOES have something to do with religion, in the United States, we are ALL free to follow whatever religion or spiritual pursuit we find suitable. Christianity is not yet THE ENTRENCHED religion some of you think it either is or should be. So, I agree with another poster (sorry, I didn’t note your name) that LDS folks should be allowed multispouse marriages, also.

We are all stewards of our own lives. We also are stewards of what we hear and say. We are stewards of our votes and in each of these we are held responsible before Jehovah (God). THose that think progressively and call for men to be equal before God is correct. However, God does not change, He is still against man to man relationships, who advocates it does not change the matter.
On John McCain, I respect what he endured as a POW but that does not give him carte blanche. I unwillingly voted for him because I thought he was the least harmful for our nation.
John McCain was pushed into the forefront after being on the losing streak by the liberal media. The peoples choice was eliminated not by their choice but by progressive media.
The religious activitists that empower the media and nuts on the side lines by their inflammatory remarks are going to be held guilty in a higher court.
Those that oppose spiritual freedom (religious) are creating an atmosphere of defeat in this nation and reaches all over the world. Defeatism is the partner of all social unrest. Winning over another is different that destructive behavior and plan to overcome another.
Look at your next football game. Violent but controlled and is being regulated to keep from eliminating the players by players who have not boundaries. The different blocks and tackles that create the most injuries have become illegal.
THis has been taken out of our society by legislation. THE more “freedom” of expression by one side the less expression on the other side thereby creating a social imbalance.
On the perverted sexual behavior of men being made legal by the marriage of the two is not authorized before God.
I propose that there be two types of marriage one sanctioned by God and therefore His Name be used in the vows of marriage. The other be before a magistrate and God’s Name or any suggestions of His boundaries or mandates be eliminated before all and in any vows.
There are two things before all men and they are legal and illegal before God (Jehovah). Before we tear down our society by passing laws that will destroy it permanently, that is, special laws for perverted sexual behavior. Let us consider an alternative that will give legal rights even though they will be illegal before God a lesser but less explosive answer to a real problem.
Wisdom is for those that seek it and a fool does not enter in. THe wisdom of our current and past politicos are less than wise. They are fools and they will have a fools judgment.

Nothing will change in this goverment. “WE” need to throw all of them out of office and start anew, with Honorable, descent and caring people. Sort of an overthrow of the goverment. No more “fat pay checks” No more Bennies. No more pensions, not even the pres should get a pension for 8 yrs. at the most! Minium wage and the same bennies as the dishwasher, waitress etc. gets. How many of you readers out there have got a “BIG FAT PENSION” after eight years of “SERVICE”? Their escalation of Benefits just goes to show you the corruption in our goverment. They boggle you down with “bills” that are “BOOKS”, no law or bill shold be over 12 pages, no need unless you’re trying to hide something, twist something or decieve “THE PEOPLE” They really put themselves above “THE PEOPLE” Every 4 years you should put on the ballot a “cost of living allowance, let “The People’s” voice be heard! If they really want “to serve” and help this country really be the “BEST”, we need TERM LIMITS. You can’t be in office longer than the Pres. There are many places these people could “SERVE” other than themselves. As far as gay marriage goes, sorry, there should be no such words joined together,Gay and Marriage. Marriage is between a man and a women. Gays should have a civil union to protect their partners. They should have the same benifits as any couple. Judgement is not for mankind in this matter, it’s for God. We are suppose to love one another as ourselves first. As far as McCain goes, do you think that the NAACP has anything to do with what politicians say? He couldn’t have gone after Obama without getting his head handed to him.”Racist” is what anyone is called if they bring up his faults. (THANKS “O”) Look how much the press and “the People” pushed aside the real truth. 20 years in THAT CHURCH, if you even what to call it a church. Obama is only a orator, not a doer, not a “community service worker” not even a good 1 termer. How many offices has he held and finshed up his term? How stupid are the American people for listening to the “bought and paid for” press? Live and learn American, if it walks like a duck…….

  • Tyme_gypsy

YOU FOOLS…How can you call anybody who favors socialism or communism (totalitarianism) “progressive”? Socialism is a failure every place it exists as it stifles freedom, growth and incentive. These people are “socialists” or communist” depending on whether you’re talking about RINO’s or the wackos on the left.
Don’t let the PC idiots dictate your terminology. Call them what they are.

    • JC

Well thanks, no one here had thought of that. ;)

  • phred

I note that one who advocates that a two man marriage violates “Gods Law”, then defines his image of “God” as “Jehova”. The question I have is, what about those of us who do NOT follow your “holy” book, and do not put the “name” “Jehova” onto OUR image of the Supreme Being? According to all the founding documents of this country, and all the documents leading up to them, we, also, have freedom of religion, do we not? And, frankly, the image I have of the Supreme Being is of a Being who LOVES ITs creations. Who loves them enough that they are all afforded equality. Doesn’t matter to IT whether they have and use a “holy” book, or whether thay bathe every 28th of the month, or, whether they find people of the same gender to be attractive, only that they are ITs creations.
So, please, don’t start making it seem that we all have to accept and adhere to the ideas and ideals of ONE religions beliefs—if we have to do that we are, already, no longer living in the United States, where we are said to “ALL be created equal.”
I do not push my spiritual beliefs and conventions on any of y’all, and would hope to be treated equally.
I do agree with the idea put forth by “sgtDHR”, that we have distinct and separate “marriages”, one a religious one and one a civil one. Oh, but, wait, that is exactly what we have now, isn’t it? one can be married without that governmentally mandated piece of paper—that’s the marriage of love, and, if you prefer to think of it as “under God”, then that’s the way it will be. My wife and I were married for over twelve years before we made it a legal situation. Government sees fit to juggle things like taxation, etc. and it wasn’t until they (gov’t.) had made it financially viable to get on their bandwagon, and buy a “license to be wed”. The piece of paper doesn’t make us anymore married, but, it does give us certain tax breaks, and certain inheritance rights, etc. To outlaw marriage for certain people does this:
It denies them the same rights as others
It denies them certain tax breaks (or equality of taxes, at the very least)
It denies them inheritance rights that others have automatically
So, please, folks, stop trying to put YOUR religious beliefs into the statutes. We ALL have the right to be treated equally, whether you like some of us or not! Whether you like our beliefs or not. Whether you think being a redhead with freckles should be denied the right to reproduce! You arguments are ridiculous! And, frankly, antiAmerican!

    • denniso

This issue highlights again the problem with the Repub party…they are hijacked by the intolerant religious wing and need them to keep any sort of numbers up…the ‘conservatives’ god Reagan essentially made a pact w/ the devil in bringing them into the party in force and giving them some power. Now,they pose a threat to the long term stability of the party.
By the way,it’s Dems who are willing to let people live how they please, and stand up for the rights of all Americans.

      • JC

Really Denniso? Not to disregard the rest of your post I have to ask…will the Dems leave my health care, paycheck, schools, guns, and tax rate alone? No way, not the Dems not the Repubs. You of all the folks that come in here seem completely hung up on the idea of left and right, red or blue…the system is broken. Its broken (almost) beyond repair. Neither of the mainstream parties is a sane solution as long as this sytem is left to run the way it does.

        • denniso

Really JC??? Most people who pay real attention to politics and the ‘system’ know that it has been ‘broken’ for 200+ years. Broken, meaning that it has always been flawed, even at it’s inception. Why were the first ammendments to the ‘perfect’ constitution needed? To appease some who wouldn’t have voted for the original paper. Why were women,blacks,natives,non-property owners, all essentially left out when our ‘rights’ were passed out? The very beginning of our country was flawed by the human nature of the all
          white,male,landowners who were the ‘fathers’.
Read about ‘Shay’s Rebellion’ to see how the country began. Farmers and peasants forced to pay taxes in hard currency, that they didn’t have, to the gov’t to pay for the glorious Revolution. When they couldn’t pay in currency, their farms and posessions were confiscated. Shay and others protested what seemed unfair to him, people were killed and Shay imprisoned.
Our system has been flawed since the end of the Revolution, because it’s designed by flawed humans, mostly white, rich men. No party is perfect, for the same reason. I vote for the Dems, because I believe they are better in general for our country..but I’m not happy w/ some things they do or don’t do,but we have limited ploitical choices so I stick w/ them. All this talk from mostly rightwingers of tossing everybody out and starting over w/ ‘real conservatives’ is OK w/ me,because the dissension only helps my side and will lead to a fractured Repub party. And,it’s been tried before by you guys(remember Gingrich in ’94).Like it or not,we have a 2 party system and there are basically 2 sides given play to most serious issues that we face. Then there’s the talk of third parties…Haven’t people, even DaveH,libertarian recruiter, learned finally that 3rd parties don’t work in our system? Nader gave the election to Bush in 2000 and ’04. The ‘cowboy’ from Texas gave it to Clinton in ’92.
But if it makes you and other disgruntled people happy(and helps the Dems),keep splitting your ‘conservative’ party in two.

    • Joe H.

      phred,
your whole arguement is based on the point of Gays being “born that way”. there is no proof positive to support that idea!! when there is then maybe your arguement will have creedence!!!! Oh and by the way, don’t use the “scientific” study done by a certain Gay group either as that would have a little bias, wouldn’t you agree???

  • libertytrain

denniso – per your comment: “By the way,it’s Dems who are willing to let people live how they please, and stand up for the rights of all Americans.”
That has not been my experience throughout my life. It is what I thought the Democrats were supposed to be like – but they are not. They are more of a “do as I say, not as I do” group in my experience.

  • libertytrain

What was and what is are two different things -

  • denniso

Liberty, The Dems are not perfect…but, in general they stand for the little people much more than the Repubs. Liberal Dems ended slavery, gave women the vote, forced laws to allow the poor to vote, fought for civil rights for Blacks and Hispanics and women, are fighting for med Marijuana and the right to die as we choose. The Repubs,in almost total unanimity, have fought all of these advances in ‘freedom’ for individuals. But no, they aren’t perfect and they also get captured by corporate money..only a bit less so. Like I said before,we have 2 choices in the real world. The Repubs have been behind the privatising of prisons(as they are for most issues)that then lends a huge profit motive to giant corporations to lobby for tougher non violent drug laws, and more, in order to keep their profitmaking prisons full. Is that how democracy should work?

  • denniso

I meant to say, liberal minded people ended slavery…

  • phred

As usual, this discussion has gotten completely off subject. Certain people feel that they need to make their favorite party into heroes, and to hell with the people having anything resembling rights and liberties—the only thing that seems to matter is that “my political party” be revered by y’all!
When can we actually get the idea that hu-man beings are hu-man beings, regardless of their religious pursuits, their gender, their ethnic background, their race, their sexual orientation—that we ALL have the same, inalienable rights as one another! Thus, Cindy McCain, it seems to me, is ABSOLUTELY correct to campaign AGAINST restricting a certain group from the same rights as the rest of us.

BTW, Denniso, FINALLY I actually see you putting thoughts down rather than sound bites. While I don’t necessarily agree with your thoughts it’s good to see that you have them! As for the “incorrectness” of the origin of this country, yes, the late 18th century was a time when even the brilliant men who founded the United States would have been afraid to put forth the idea of equality of the genders, etc. But, by their words they DID allow it to be implied for those of us of later generations, and “men” can be interpretted as “hu-mankind”.
Thu United States is STILL an experiement, but to lock up the power in government rather than in the people—well, all it takes is a quick scan of history to see what happens—Egypt, Greece, Rome, whatever—as soon as government decides to take all power, and the people get none, they have ALL died as political entities. And that is exactly what Massa O is attempting once again. Hopefully, denniso, you’ll begin to see that soon! Or, maybe you are one of those people who NEED to have a government ( or a mommy) to tell them what to do in every ascpect of their life. I don’t know.

Phred…. I’ve got no problem with the government doing things that benifit our country…. I also not opposed to all taxes….we spent more than 2 trillion dollars on Iraq for no benifits to America at all and none on Americas infrastructure , which is in dire need of attention, …the rightwing always gets hysterical over taxing but need someway to rebuild a military that’s been through a decade of desert warfare on top of our infrastructure without taxes…. Iraqs getting new infrastructure paid for with american tax dollars and agent to china….I just wish president Obama hadn’t had to follow the worst president in our history and have to deal with all the blunders he’s had to deal with… I’m sure some of the people on this site blame president Obama for this countrys woes but their is a reality and most of us know he stepped into a disaster … And has done a pretty good job concidering it’s only been 18 months… Bush did a lot of damage in 8 years..
