CIA Director Resigns

CIA Director Resigns

Central Intelligence Agency Director and drone warfare advocate David Petraeus announced last week that he will be stepping down as the Nation’s top spy after details of an extramarital affair emerged.

“Yesterday afternoon, I went to the White House and asked the President to be allowed, for personal reasons, to resign from my position as D/CIA,” he wrote in a resignation letter.

“After being married for over 37 years, I showed extremely poor judgment by engaging in an extramarital affair. Such behavior is unacceptable, both as a husband and as the leader of an organization such as ours. This afternoon, the President graciously accepted my resignation,” he wrote.

Petraeus became CIA director in April 2011, replacing Leon Panetta, who moved to the Pentagon to become defense secretary. Some sources indicate that deputy CIA director and a longtime CIA officer, Mike Morrell, will take over Petraeus’ position within the agency.

During his tenure at the CIA, Petraeus oversaw the Barack Obama Administration’s aggressive counterterrorism campaign, using increased armed unmanned drones in Pakistan, Yemen, Afghanistan and elsewhere. The aggressive drone policy has been cited for examinations by the United Nations and other international entities for the possibility of war crimes in instances where civilian death tolls tallied high.

Setting the poor judgment aside for a minute, just for the sake of argument… If the circumstances weren’t so dramatic about the affair having occurred.

If everyone knows he had an affair how can he be blackmaled?

It’s like the gays Tail Gunner Joe used to rant about. They are a security risk because they can be blackmaled.

Well, if folks know some individuals are gay how can they be blackmaled for it?

It looks to me that tohse on the extreme right wing who want to protect us from ourselves are creating the threat and reducing freedom in America. That’s not American.

Extensive counter terror efforts? Have I been living on a different planet. All I have seen is OUR money being funneled TO those terrorist organizations. Silly me. Surely this has nothing to do with Bengazi. Rats leaving a sinking ship if you ask me. back in my days in the US Army, ADULTERY was a court martial offense. Guess it no longer is with all the “it’s” in the military.

Maybe some of you should be more concerned about the 30,000 women who are raped within our military system (you know forced sex). Instead of someone having consensual sex. Rape is not love and is a serious crime yet to Conservatives “its” legitimate. Yet they clamour for heads when someone has a moment of mutual and agreeable sex. No military information was divulged and none was even attempted. Once again this is a personal situation for Holly and David Petraeus and whether they can continue to accept each other as husband and wife not tabloid fodder.

Whats an extramarital affair got to do with important skills the guy might have?. Here is just another example of church laws having too much power in the running of a nation. What makes anyone think that puritans would do a much better job?

A friend of mine suggested marriages should be for set terms of 7 year renewable contracts and set other model rules to make provision for children and living arrangements, but for gods sake the guy has been married for over 5 contract periods of 7 years and he might deserve a break in this silly reason to lose his job in the most important nation on this earth. There might not be many CIA or Army personell left if all those in extra marital affairs had to resign. Forget the politics think of your security you republicans.

It has become self evident to me and many more if your honest with yourselves that marriage law should be no different than any other contract and has a set term. Gee even most house mortgages are not till death contracts, so why should marriages expected to last forever when many people really dont know what they getting into when first falling in love as we call it….more to do with lust or financial convenience these days and 37 years ago would not have been much different. There was no training of how to live with women or the concept of a life long contract and its consequences when the lust aspect wears off.

If he does not get a decent posting in your government, I would want our government to offer him a position in our ASIO services here in Australia as long as he has an unblemished services & CIA record and gee mistakes…everyone makes those, even puritans for gods sake.

The first red flag for me is that someone would actually leave the Obama administration for moral reasons.

If the supposed “affair” was going on for about 2 years, Mrs. Petraues knew and so did everyone else. His weak spot was used against him with those two female dogs and you find that they didn’t even have to be in heat.

  • Petezarino

Not so FAST David Petraeus !! We have questions you have answers for … What happened in Benghazi ?? No free pass. No one is above the law. You , Obama and his other staff members still have to tell us the truth……. Happpy Veterans Day.

  • Dale left coast

The is all about Benghazi . . . Petraeus would not lie for the Administration . . . so he chose to exit. The affair was old news, when the General started with the CIA he would have gone through a lie detector test, it would have come out. When the FBI investigated him they would have had to get the President’s Permission first.
    This is all about the Benghazi Coverup . . . this will dwarf Watergate . . . 4 Americans died . . . the the usurper went to bed ! ! !

    • eddie47d

Why do Republicans always have different reasoning with death counts? Why do 4 dead become a national crises to them and political cannon fodder than when Reagan put us into far more danger in selling weapons and equipment to Saddam. That in itself sucked us into a very dark and black hole in the Middle East. Benghazi as tragic as it was has no comparison to what Reagan did. It was news back then but never NEVER sensationalized by Democrats as this Benghazi event is being politically motivated by Republicans. Reagan also allowed under his watch the bombing of the Marine barracks in Lebanon which left 242 US soldiers dead. Why was there so little security for those Marines? You say that is a big issue in Benghazi so why the double standard? Then Reagan turned and left that nation in turmoil and “went to bed”. What about Reagan’s weak response to the Iran-Contra Affair in saying he knew nothing. That was far bigger than Watergate or Benghazi yet it was stuffed under the rug and with few repercussions. Is this a different time or strictly the newest and disgusting display from the real and vicious Republican Party?

General Betray-US. Yessir, such wonderful people we have defending our constitution and BofR’s. He still has a chance to do what’s right, and expose the corrupt actives by our government agencies. But I doubt he will.

    • r.p.

It appears Gen.Powell used the same intell sources before giving his endorsment for BHO just two days before the election. Doesn’t give much time to do any fact checking, does it?
