Cholesterol treatment may be effective against cancer

March 12, 2009 by

Cholesterol treatment may be effective against cancer There may be a link between lower cholesterol levels and prostate cancer prevention, researchers from Boston have announced.

A team of scientists from Children’s Hospital fed mice a high fat/high cholesterol "Western" diet and found that high cholesterol level promoted prostate tumor growth.

They then tested an anti-cholesterol medication on the mice and found that it blocked the cholesterol-induced growth of new blood vessels (angiogenesis).

According to the researchers, this suggests that reducing cholesterol levels may inhibit prostate cancer growth specifically by inhibiting tumor angiogenesis.

"We are in the process of working with clinicians to translate these findings into potential human studies," says Dr. Michael Freeman, senior author of the study.

He adds, "If we can demonstrate the effects noted in our pre-clinical studies in human patients we may be able to save lives and improve the quality of life."

Besides anti-cholesterol drugs, there are also numerous natural methods that can help patients at risk, including regular exercise and nutritional supplements.

Such supplements include niacin, omega-3 fatty acids in fish oil and red yeast rice extract, many of which have the dual benefit of reducing LDL, the "bad" cholesterol, and increasing the levels of the healthy HDL.

    Good Article,
It seems to make good sense to lower you cholesterol. Cholesterol seems to be symptom of inflammation. Omega 3 is very good with anti inflammation. It is it’s best quality. What makes increasing your omega 3 a much better solution for decreasing your cholesterol is that its side effects are positive. Omega 3 has been show to help with heart health, arthritis, blood pressure and much more. Inflammation is related to just about every major disease we Americans get these days. So increase those Omega 3 levels decrease your Cholesterol and get healthier.

People who read health literature would be very dubious about any kind of cholesterol treatment for any reason.

Pharmaceutical houses have made so much money on the cholesterol myth that they keep changing the requirements, always for more cholesterol treatment. Even children now are included. This is about as insane as orthodox medicine gets.

If cholesterol levels go wacky the thing to do is change your diet to naturally restore normal cholesterol levels. There are indeed food supplements that help with elevated cholesterol. They are the Omega-3 fatty acids, red yeast rice extract, ginkgo biloba and garlic.

Now it has become known that an explosive supplement for Omega-3s is Krill Oil. Krill Oil has been shown by researchers to speed up the buildup of Omega-3 fatty acids in the body. The benefits of krill oil over fish oil are dramatic! Check out: http://www.healthresources.net/itemdy00.asp?t1=Super-Krill-Omega-3

Sign Petition To Stop Television Prescription Drug Ads

Published by Marlene B. on Mar 18, 2009
    Category: Health
    Region: GLOBAL
Target: U.S. Congress, FCC, FDA, European Commission, EMEA

    Background (Preamble):
Statistics prove prescription drugs are 16,400% more deadly than terrorists. According to the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) in 1998, a report finds that prescription drugs kill about 106,000 Americans each year – that’s three times as many as are killed by automobiles—making prescription drug death the fourth leading killer after heart disease, cancer and stroke.

Last year, the Journal of the American Medical Association puts death from all drugs, illegal and prescription, second only behind car accidents as a cause of death.

The rise in deaths coincides with the direct marketing of prescription medication to the public. Prescription drug sales have soared nearly 500 percent since 1990.

The pharmaceutical industry is a multi-trillion dollar business. Companies spend billions on advertising and promotions for prescription drugs. Pharmaceutical companies claim their drug ads are “educational” to the public. The public seems to genuinely believe that drugs advertised on TV are safe, in spite of the plethora of side effects listed. Many of these drugs have proven deadly.

Every day it’s estimated 2,500 teens abuse a prescription pain killer for the first time.

The White House Office of National Drug Control policy had been planning to unveil an ad campaign to target prescription drug abuse by teens. It is time to stop this form of advertising by the pharmaceutical companies.
    Petition:
We, the undersigned, request that Congress, the FDA (Food and Drug Administration), the FCC (Federal Communications Commission), the European Commission, EMEA (European Medicines Agency) stop all television advertising of prescription drugs.
THE LAST TIME A CURE WAS FOUND FOR A DISEASE
WAS 1959. DR. JONAS SALK DEVELOPED THE VACCINE
FOR POLIO. HE WAS JUST ONE MAN.
SINCE THAT TIME, HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS
HAVE BEEN SPENT ON DISEASE. NOT FOR A CURE, BUT FOR
DRUG TREATMENT ONLY. A CURE WOULD PUT BIG
PHARMA OUT OF BIZ. IT SHOULD BE THE JOB OF A PHYSICIAN
TO PRESCRIBE THE BEST TREATMENTS TO A PATIENT, INSTEAD
OF PATIENTS ASKING DOCTORS TO PRESCRIBE THESE DRUGS.
BY ADVERTISING THESE DRUGS, THE PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANIES INVOLVE THEMSELVES IN A LEGAL DRUG TRADE THAT IS KILLING THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE EVERY DAY.
