China’s Growing Military Power

January 5, 2012 by

China’s Growing Military Power

As part of a continuing military buildup, China is building a new class of ballistic missiles designed to arc through the stratosphere and explode onto the deck of a carrier to keep the U.S. Navy at bay in the event of armed conflict.

According to an article in The Wall Street Journal, the new missile, called the DF-21D, was designed to strike a moving ship up to about 1,700 miles away. Defense analysts in the United States say the missile is designed to come in at an angle too high for U.S. defenses against sea-skimming cruise missiles and too low for defenses against other ballistic missiles. The DF-21D is expected to be finished around 2015.

The United States and China have both, in recent years, been involved in a military technology race, but Pentagon officials don’t have much to say about potential conflict with China because it is not an explicit enemy, according to the article.

Reports of China’s new military tools come as the country has recently warned the United States that it opposes sanctions and military actions against Iran related to current tension in the Persian Gulf. Some commentators believe that China’s relationship with the Iranians could mean a global military conflict is looming if the U.S. uses military force against Iran.

America ONLY attacks small countries incapable of matching U.S. weaponry and troop numbers…the true mark of the Bully and as anyone knows ALL bullies are COWARDS at heart….only FOOLS and LIARS will contend what I say, and there are plenty of those in the land of MacDonalds dinners, Alice and Wonderland Politics and Disneyland Economics.

As long as an American has a gun and a gang he/she is tough!!!

…and yes Canada is no better, just smaller, so we use America :-)

    • jimmy the greek

I have a lot of guns , but don’t run in a gang , ( i don’t want anyone around that can rat on me up the road )

      • Thor

China has had a missile capable of taking out an American carrier for decades. What they acquired under the auspices of one, William Jefferson Clinton, was the ability to aim it at a moving carrier with the prospect of getting close enough to do any good. This fact seems to have escaped notice here.

Oh, and Roger, lets have tea sometime. Perhaps you will understand sign-language better than English…knuckle-drills on your noggen perhaps?

Isn’t it sad Freedom, that countries like Canada and America that produced the determined and couragious people that fought and won WWII and handled the rebuilding afterwards, can also spawn the weak simpering entities that can’t do well either in peace or in war!

      • CoCowboy692000

It seems none of them can read either.

I thought it could mean weapons on hand, along with the plans and stationing of those weapons. If they have already implimented these plans, then they currently have them in the positions they want. Now they just have to constantly train and prepare to use them. FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!

    • s c

r, the canadian ______, you can pull up your pants and slink back to your den now. Indirectly, you did manage to point out the FACT that an entrenched policy of foreign intervention ‘at all costs’ has made America seem more like a pimped-out world ‘cop.’
You need to enlarge your circle of friends, chum. Whatever your favorite pill is, it must have quite a long list of side-effects. You sound like you were intensively briefed by circle jerk utropians. They’re not your friends, r. They’re not our friends. If they didn’t have ‘each other,’ they wouldn’t have ANY friends.

    • Tinman

So Roger, where are you there in China ?

    • Erik

Hey Rodger The canadian libertarian,Is there any other collaberators like yourself in canada? I’m sure there is you piece of trash!

As you are not a citzen of the country you so despise, your opinion means nothing!! Proper spelling and terminology seem to be a problem for you too; McDonalds and Alice in Wonderland. In the words of some of your most beloved fellow comrades, Bob and Doug McKenzie, “Take off hoser!”

      • eddie47d

Each nation has the right to defend itself anyway it feels and for the security of it’s citizens. China’s new aircraft carrier is a beauty and looks like a sleek cruise ship. Yet that is their business. Now if they interfere with another nation like we have been doing then it may be our concern. Maybe they should have come to the aid of the Taliban…. Didn’t have to do that for they just waltzed in and bought up the mineral rights in Afghanistan and right under our nose. Let’s face it they are becoming better Capitalists than we are in staking their claims in the world. While we spend trillions on war they slip right in.Another point is that so many of you don’t want our country to build a military base in Australia for faster response against the Chinese so why worry about what weaponry they build.

        • http://naver Samurai

You may not be worrying about it ed-duh, but I’ll bet my kids will have to in the future. I currently have one in the army and I wouldn’t want him to go over there to fight a possible 200 – 300 million man army. Chance of surviving in battle against such a large force, slim to none. And slim is walking out the door. FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!

        • eddie47d

You should have thought about that when you allowed all of our recent wars to move forward. You support false wars and glorify them so what else should the world or even your children look forward to?

          • http://naver Samurai

I’ve never glorified any of these wars, you nitwit. I’m proud to have served this country, but I’ve never glorified the blodd and how many people I’ve had meet God. You show me where I did this. Read my post on January 5, 2012 at 6:01 p.m. If you do, then you’ll know where I’m coming from. Still haven’t made that poppngsound, eh ed-duh? I guess that it is true aboutyou having your head far up your wazoo. Here someone tends to agree with what you said and then you answer with nonsense. FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!

    • CoCowboy692000

Roger the ridiculous… thankfully, you’re in canada… please make sure you stay there.

    • http://naver samurai

I guess you would count Nazi Germany, Italy, Japan, North Korea, fighting China, Vietnam, and Iraq as countries having weak militaries? Neeeeed to be making that popping sound. You use America? I see Canada following America, like the Korean War and Operation Just Cause in Afghanistan. The Americans were there first, but the Canadians were there just for a ride. FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!

    • John Ceglarski

It’s to bad your parents didn’t live in Germany in 1938 because if they had we would not be reading your moronic comments today. I can only assume you are French Canadian and belong to that group of history challenged individuals that are politely referred to as “surrender monkeys”. I do hope you will move to a more agreeable country in the middle east since your proximity to bullies. COWARDS, FOOLS and LIARS seems to make you so upset.

    • Gringo Infidel

Ha!I suppose you would call Nazi Germany, Imperial Japan, and even Iraq “small countries?’ Or do you prefer to rely on selective examples in your verbal attacks. It is okay – just want you to realize just how wrong you are.

You seem to forget that making a claim and being able to fulfill it are vastly different.

It would not be the U.S. attacking the Chi-Coms on the mainland but rather the other way around as a precursor to attacking Taiwan.

Do you happen to know that China actually ‘invaded’ Viet Nam after the U.S. left it? Yeah, that went well – the Chi-Coms did not even have enough trucks and food for their invading army! Alas, that was then and you will no doubt site articles like this one that make unsubstantiated generalizations as your ‘evidence.’ Not surprising. In the realm of ideas you are woefully under prepared but then you wen to school in the British Empire schools.

  • jimmy the greek

Sounds like a winner to me , WE should build some for ourselves ,

    • Rational

Looks like Weapons Envy has replaced Penis Envy.
Why do we need the “same thing”? What is in our massive arsenal that can deter anyone’s use of an untried weapon? I was discussing any response to Iran if they blockaded the Strait of Hormuz. If they harass a US ship then a well placed tactical (not strategic) nuke delivered by a cruise missile in an unpopulated area in Iran may make the point clear.

    • CoCowboy692000

LOL – there you go again… We already have it. It flies at mach 20 and it’s incredibly destructive.

  • Sirian

OK, China has a new missile, or so it claims. If so, are they implying that they will take out everything we have and then rule the world? Come on, think a bit. If they were to take action on this scale what would it lead to? Need I answer. No, I seriously doubt that they would jepordize their already fragile government and economic stability by initiating a major military attack. Besides, they know quite well our fleet of subs carry an enormous advantage over them. Oh yeah, they forgot to say anything about our subs – gee.

    • Jagans

Again, well said, my friend. Why would China want to wage war with the country that buys all of their crap? Once again, as during the cold war, we are given the FEAR routine by our government, and by the news media. Remember when the news media said how Iraq’s Republican guard was going to kick our butts in that war???? Remember how they had so called special artillary guns that would beat anything we had? I guess they for got about our air force, that basically left a clean up operation for our ground forces.

    • http://naver samurai

I agree with you on many of the things you have said, but here are somethings to consider:

      1. China, thanks to William “I did not have sexual relations with that woman” Clinton and Albright, they have the technology to hit any tartget that moves with pinpoint accuracy.
      2. They developed a new missile system called “The East Wind” that has the acpability to lauch a missile and can strike any target around the world.
      3. They have an anttack and defense plan called “The Wall of Iron and Steel.” They can launch enough missiles from a single missile company and wipe out entire grid squares. Think of how many troops or ships can be inside a grid square.
      4. Since Clinton’s visit to China, they have improved their missile technology and we have done really nothing for ours. A SAM from us can go from Washington D.C. to Baltimore, but theirs can go from Washington, D.C. all the way to New York or Boston. We’ve been lacking in improving the distance of our missiles.
      5. They are closing in on the number of nukes we have and have far more conventional missiles than we do. The Chinese have us out manned and out gunned. Our technology was 30 – 40 years ahead of them, but thanks to Clinton, they are now only 5 – 10 years behind us.
      6. The Chinese now have a larger navy than we do and a much larger army. In China, when a man finishes his 2 – 3 years manditory service, he is in the reserves until the age of 60 years old. Ergo, in the Bible when it talks about a 200 million man army wiping out 1/4 of the world’s population, that must be China. If they called up their reserves, they could have an army larger than our population. Our military is strong, well equipped, and well trained, but no one can handle that many soldiers on the battlefield. Not without specials.

I hope you understand what I’m saying. I agree with what you say, but I’m just adding on. FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!

  • Pat

China is not an explicit enemy???? What world do you live in

    • Ted Crawford

This is simply blind obedience to “Political Correctness”!
The best defination I’ve ever heard of “Political Correctness”, “Political Correctness is the belief that one can pickup a turd, by the clean end”

      • Sirian

        Oh that’s good Ted, that’s really good!!!. . . :)

    • Sirian

I did not say they weren’t an enemy Pat, merely that it would not be to their advantage to go for the gusto, so to speak, militarily with us. They are having much more trouble in their own country then you apparently are aware of. NO, I did not say that they weren’t an enemy. They have been for several decades. Once again, they honestly can’t do something such as attack our fleet without paying a very high price – and believe it or not they truly enjoy the capitalist side of their communistic politically ruled state. It has given them a better financial base then what they had under their wonderful Mao, now has it? Step back a bit and look at the whole picture Pat, I think you’ll see it. BTW, they’ve copied our F-22 Raptor also. Wonder where they got the know how to do that?

      • eddie47d

Anything you want can be found on the Internet and China has been hacking in for several years now. That includes our military databases.

      • http://naver Samurai

They also have their version of a stealth fighter. They also have the JU-36 which can fire 6 missiles simultaneously, but the F-16 can fire one at a time. FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!

    • CoCowboy692000

I would call China an economic enemy and a military threat worthy of a watchful eye.

  • James

Hey Hoser from the Great White North. The US kept the Russians off the backs of Europe for more than 50 years and has tangled with China before too. So who else would you have them fight that would measure up to your opinion of a worthy opponent? If you are not happy living in Canada, then why don’t you go to one of the workers paradise countries and live? Because its always easier being a Communist in a Western Country then it is to be one in a real communist country.

    • Sirian

James, please, you really don’t think he’d be willing to sacrifice his welfare check do you?

      • eddie47d

I thought you dealt in facts not silly assumptions.

        • http://naver samurai

That’s OK ed-duh, because that is all you ever have is unfounded assumptions. FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!

Sounds defensive to me. I have no control over what they do.

Mankind activities is little more the ants activities, moving about, building, harvesting, storing and appropriation.

That is our purpose, to offer dominion and defend what is “ours”. I see no conflict at this time.

  • John R. Harbison

DANG–ROGER I don’t know what to think. I to have a gun to protect me and mine. I don’t and wont attack but my best defence has always been a tough offence and i’m very capable to defend. I think a country may have to attack at times to stop bad behavior. I guess if I knew a gang was coming after me I may very well ambush or attack fist. Ever body has to do what the think best. I wish to have my freedom and be left alone. I will fight to keep it so.

  • Jagans

So What? DO you think that they would actually use them????????

Oh, its the ol lets scare the people so we can continue to spend a gazillion gazillion gazillion dollars on militaty hardware that we will never use. This way, the military hardware guys will make a 100 foot motor yacht appear in the congressmans, or senators slip at his beach house that the military hardware guys bought him last year.

The 3 tigers that China doesn’t own yet and the 4 baby tigers all fall withing the 1700 mile limit of China’s border. So does Australia. If you are unaware, China policies seem to be directed at capturing within a few generations all the Asian Tiger Economies. With the profits from all those nationalized Corporations, they will be able to buy any and all of the countries in the world, without ever using military forces, except as a large stick.

    • Deerinwater

if they can pull it off, more power to them. There are clear advantages to a dictatorship and not have to deal with silly things like personal liberties and freedoms , bad press, election cycles and reformers and informers.

The government that rules best, peoples suffers most.

keeping your head down and minding your on business has serious advantages, if you are a healthy disciplined person with ambitions.

I learned long to not judge myself by what others do and have for it leads to no good, no how, no way.

China is old, wise, wealthy and strong as a nation of people. And for the most part of modern history been minding their own business. But as a “people” I don’t think that you can say the same. They work hard and are still hungry and face shortages while their elite baste in comfort of entitlement and position. Much like the US and other nations but on a different scale.

      • CoCowboy692000

Please move to China if you think we should be a dictatorship… America doesn’t need your kind…

  • Antonio

Well now, isn’t this just great? The World bankers are at it again. Here they are creating yet another world war by funding China, America and Iran. Print Print Print goes the green backs, so that everybody can get their fancy toys and gearing up for another fake world war that would never happen if it wasn’t for paper money. Well thats just awesome…

Our Carriers are well equipped for things like this. they have radar that can detect them before they get to close and shoot them down with missiles and also have “Phalanx” radar controlled Gatling guns(@3,000 rds. per minute that will destroy something hundreds of yards away. I’m sure they have prepared for such encounters.

Sounds like an excellent political ‘ten’ commandments to me.

  • RichardS

Sorry Blackwing: There is no countermeasures (as in NONE) than combat a missile that comes at these speeds and vertical down paths. That includes missile defense such as the Exo-Atompheric Kill Vehicle. The Chinese Communists clearly know what they are doing… keeping the USA from projecting its power as it expands it’s reach exponentially. Try looking up this interesting read from 2009:

When China Rules the World: the end of the western world and the birth of a new global order (Google eBook)

    • CoCowboy692000

You may be forgetting about our newest lasers etc. We have plenty of weaponry, both offensive and defensive which will handle this. And we already have this weapon which travels at mach 20. China is just drawing pretty pictures… They don’t even have a prototype.

  • WickedPickle

Do not under estimate those cunning Chinee.. Best way to outdo them is to first, think like them.

  • menlou-dallas

…ok, so, this, excuse me, concept missle will hit a moving target 1700 miles away…?? Wow, and while a US naval carrier battle group in the area is just sitting there, waiting for impending doom, they are doing nothing? Really?

It would seem that, oh, the couple of nuclear subs that float underneath the carrier, the two or three missle frigates loaded with nuclear weapons, and the dozens of flying death and destruction jet aircraft will have given the high military command of the ChiComs a moment of pause before they started firing off those ‘concept’ weapons..

.not even the Chinese would relish the idea of going toe-to-toe nuclear combat with the US….

    • Mark in LA

As computer technology improves more and more capability is put into the nose cones of missiles. Before all you could do is lauch them on a ballistic trajectory like scuds. Now they have infrared or radar sensors and tracking algorithms in software or encoded into hardware. We have the same. There is a limit to how far outside the basic ballistic trajectory that they can move but it is probably larger than the range a carrier battle group can sail in the flight time of the missile.
