China To Launch Satellite For Pakistan

BEIJING, Aug. 10 (UPI) — China will launch a communications satellite for Pakistan, its close ally, it was announced Wednesday.

A spokesman for the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest Sichuan Province said the satellite will be launched at an “appropriate time” in coming days, the official Xinhua news agency reported.

He said the satellite, the PAKSAT-1R, will be carried by a Long March-3B carrier rocket, the report said.

China has long maintained close ties with Pakistan, which it refers to as an “all-weather” friend.
