Very restrictive gun-licensing laws, no gun stores, no tolerance of armed private citizens in public, no assault rifles, no high-capacity magazines, and no shooting ranges: Chicago is a gun hater’s utopia. It’s also the city where 44 homicides and 160 shootings were recorded in January alone. The Windy City is a portrait of the hypocrisy of gun control.

The New York Times published a piece on Tuesday outlining the massive crime problem currently gripping the city and leading to the shooting deaths of so many of its residents. The newspaper mostly blamed the proliferation of Chicago gun violence on the city’s restrictive gun laws being negated by the more gun friendly laws on the books for the State of Illinois.

From the article:

Lately, the police say they are discovering far more guns on the streets of Chicago than in the nation’s two more populous cities, Los Angeles and New York. They seized 7,400 guns here in crimes or unpermitted uses last year (compared with 3,285 in New York City), and have confiscated 574 guns just since Jan. 1 — 124 of them last week alone.

More than a quarter of the firearms seized on the streets here by the Chicago Police Department over the past five years were bought just outside city limits in Cook County suburbs, according to an analysis by the University of Chicago Crime Lab. Others came from stores around Illinois and from other states, like Indiana, less than an hour’s drive away…

The tone of the article appears to suggest that tightening gun laws in every city, county and State throughout the Nation would end the suffering in Chicago, but it never examines the idea that strict gun laws — which haven’t helped Chicago — likely won’t deter the criminal element in any other part of the country either.

Pulitzer Prize winner Mark Konkol recently published a piece in My Chicago that allows the reader to draw a more realistic conclusion about what lies beneath Chicago’s gun — or, rather, killing — problem.

From Konkol’s piece:

Last year, gunmen who shot and wounded someone got away without criminal charges 94 percent of the time, according to a DNAinfo.com Chicago analysis of police data.

That’s even worse than 2011, when 91.5 percent of shooters escaped charges, according to the data.

Chicago’s top cop said the “no-snitch” code of silence on the street is the biggest contributor in his department’s struggle to charge shooters.

Chicago is a city under siege, rampant with gang violence and full of criminals who abide by their own code of conduct in a battle over turf, drugs and money. The police are powerless to end the killing and Chicago’s political class has done its best to make owning a gun as inconvenient as possible. The result: Law-abiding citizens in the city must get a Chicago firearms permit, which requires firearms training, a background check and firearm owner’s identification card issued upon completing a background review for felonies and mental illness.

As the law currently stands, those steps allow for only the purchase or possession of the weapon. A recent review by the Chicago Tribune found that only about 1 out of every 234 people in Illinois (most of them cops) were authorized to carry a concealed firearm in the State. In Chicago the number of law abiding concealed carriers is far lower.

Vice President Joe Biden, Senator Dianne Feinstein and the Nation’s other anti-gun lawmakers should take gun-violence victim Gabriel Gifford’s advice from the Senate hearing on Wednesday: Be bold, be courageous. I suggest they sit down with the heads of America’s top gangs and ask them to politely hand over their guns. The political leaders could organize a beer summit in Chicago’s Englewood area; heck, they should bring the former community organizer along, too. It’s going to take some diplomacy, because somehow it seems doubtful that the gangs have been encouraging members to drop off firepower at local gun buybacks. While they’re at it, perhaps Biden, Pelosi and Barack Obama could convince gang leaders to turn over their crack, smack and coke as well. How the hell are those drugs making it into the City of Chicago, anyhow? They are, of course, illegal in all 50 States.

Maybe The New York Times knows.

But arent you aware of the progressives prime initiative?
Coddle the criminal until you can make criminals out of everyone…..then wholesale slaughter them.

New York also has restrictive gun laws and the murder rate is lower than Chicago and going down.

Looks like gun laws as a “causative” effort relative to crime just hasn’t made the connection.

We need to look at other reasons why people are killing each other.

It really shouldn’t be part of the gun debate.

New York City has concealed carry, Chicago does not, even though New York has strict gun laws they still haven’t crossed the line to banning them. Chicago politics is decidely against people having guns of any kind. I live close enough to Chicago that I meet and talk to people from the city and all the suburbs on a regular basis and the anti gun politics have done little to change the gun culture there. I have on more than one occasion met people from the city that were carrying handguns in the past which until very recently was illegal in the entire state. I have never met anyone that was carrying a gun that wasn’t from Chicago or a police officer.

Out here in “the middle” I bet 80+% own guns, 60% are “ready at home”, and 10% carry. There are easily more total guns than human beings. Strange how murders are so few here, maybe 4-5 year in 150 mile radius, and usually involve druggies. Oh you “liberal city folks”, stay where you are.

Gee Robert! Put this in your pipe and smoke it! When you take GOD out of your country and when you remove the value system that once ruled the country and when you break down the family and encourage free sex and abortions, THIS is what you end up with!!! The people have been ENCOURAGED to believe that human life has NO value!!! Eugenisits like darwin, say that we’re no different than animals. Econuts like gore say that there are too many people and we need less of them! THIS is what YOU espouse!!! And yet, you wonder why so many people are killing each other?!? It’s because we’ve all been taught that “if it feels good, do it”! “I’m ok, you’re ok”! You must be “politically correct” and “don’t judge people”! Well, THIS is what happens when you throw out ALL the ethics, morals and values!!! THIS is what happens when you remove GOD from your country!!! THIS is what you want, THIS is what you get!!!

Gotta go along with Nancy from Nebraska on this one. What she says, in a nut shell, is that you liberals wanted this and now you are whining that it didn’t turn out as you liked (the law of unintended consequences).
As we all know people are creatures of habit and will do what they are used to doing. In years gone by the black and minority families were those who were the most family oriented. Then the government and Lyndon Johnson got involved to ‘make people’s lives better’ and get rid of discrimination. Having babies out of wedlock and ejecting the father from the household became lucrative. The more help the poor and minorities got the worse their condition became and the more the liberals wanted to do.
The liberals, through the ACLU and Kunstler type lawyers, got things changed so that crazy people could defecate on our door step, freeze on our streets and murder masses of our children. Insane people who were a danger themselves or others used to be put into institutions, but now liberals have gotten that outlawed until they actually harm someone. Even then some slimy lawyer will do his best to allow that person back onto the street where he or she can re-offend.
Good liberals wanted to enshrine that state of affairs because it made them feel good about themselves and didn’t cost them, individually, anything. It was all paid by the government. Well, now that they have it and because the predators that have been spawned are biting them on the butt they are complaining. Kids in schools are dying because of their liberal policies. Gangs are rampant and people are dying because of their liberal policies. I contend that they don’t have the right to complain. It’s their baby. They wanted it, they got it.
The rest of us, however, are left to defend ourselves from what the liberals have spawned.
But wait! The liberals, always ready to solve society’s problems, have come up with another good idea. Let’s take away all guns. That will make us feel good.
Let’s not think about why we have such a crime problem and deal with it by being tough on criminals. Let’s not actually do something that would actually deal with the problem of the crazies we let loose on the public by institutionalizing them where they can be warm, safe from themselves and one another and get treatment for their mental illness.
No. Let’s just do the knee jerk thing and confiscate all the guns. In our short sighted minds that will solve the problem of violence.
Of course, it won’t. I know that, you know that. But to liberals, who think with their hearts and not with their brains, this is a plausible solution.

I heard Zig Ziglar live address the population problem about 1983…. He said something to the effect that, “We don’t need less people. We need more people by the right parents.”

Oy vay iz mir! When I read your last sentence I had a flashback to the time when I was on an overnight camp out at a camp maintained by the Boy Scouts North of Chicago which had room for three troops. A priest from a church which sponsored one of the troops came out and held outdoor mass for the boys, and when I asked him about what went on in the mass I amused him by trying to interpret the transubstantiation in terms of science fiction. To make a long story short he got me into one of the cabins and tried to molest me.

He did not penetrate (Borukh HaShem!), and it was not a really terrible experience, but when I told my parents about what had happened they went to the police who in 1951 assured them they would never arrest a priest on the word of a child. Then my parents went to the Archdiocese where they promised an investigation, and when they were told to come back with me a week later they wee called in to an office leaving me outside.

While I was outside a priest came over, and he accused me of lying. I now realize he was only describing the Catholic idea of hell as being eternal separation from HaShem and from the blessed, but he reduced me to hysterics. I thought I was being threatened with being kidnapped.

Rob – “…look at other reasons why people are killing each other.”
I kinda vote for what Nancy from Neb. said. It’s only bAsic reason and logic:
The God of the Bible, God and Father of the Lord Jesus Christ is referred to as the “God of life”. His book says that He wants us to be “living sacrifices for Him.” In other words live one’s life being thankful, praising Him, serving Him, His people and others who are worthy. The worship of this god is always intentional.
When you cast off from Him and worship things of your own devising and imagination you always end up worshipping the other god, “the god of death.” Obviously one of the main sacraments required by the god of death is ritual sacrifices of death. The worship of this god by some people is intentional, but if not he’ll settle for your passive self-absorption.

        Gun Ownership – It’s The
        Law In Kennesaw

KENNESAW, Ga – Several Kennesaw officials attribute a drop in crime in the city over the past two decades to a law that requires residents to have a gun in the house.

In 1982, the Kennesaw City Council unanimously passed a law requiring heads of households to own at least one firearm with ammunition.

The ordinance states the gun law is needed to “protect the safety, security and general welfare of the city and its inhabitants.”

Then-councilman J.O. Stephenson said after the ordinance was passed, everyone “went crazy.”

“People all over the country said there would be shootings in the street and violence in homes,” he said. “Of course, that wasn’t the case.”

In fact, according to Stephenson, it caused the crime rate in the city to plunge.

Kennesaw Historical Society president Robert Jones said following the law’s passage, the crime rate dropped 89 percent in the city, compared to the modest 10 percent drop statewide.

“It did drop after it was passed,” he said. “After it initially dropped, it has stayed at the same low level for the past 16 years.”

Mayor Leonard Church was not in office when the law was passed, but he said he is a staunch supporter of it.

“You can’t argue with the fact that Kennesaw has the lowest crime rate of any city our size in the country,” said Church, who owns a denture-making company in Kennesaw.

The author of the ordinance, local attorney Fred Bentley Sr., attributes at least some of the decrease in crime to the bill.

“I am definitely in favor of what we did,” he said. “It may not be totally responsible for the decrease, [but] it is a part.”

Although he is pleased with the outcome, Bentley said he was originally opposed to drafting the law.

“I didn’t think it could be written in a constitutional fashion,” he said. “Obviously, it was constitutional, because the American Civil Liberties Union challenged it in court and we won.”

Jones said the ACLU challenged the law in a federal court just after it was passed. In response, the city added a clause adding conscientious objectors to the list of those exempt.

Although the law is now being credited with a drop in crime, Jones said that was not the law’s original purpose. He also pointed out that Kennesaw did not have a big problem with crime before.

“The crime rate wasn’t that high to start with. It was 11 burglaries per 1,000 residents in 1981,” he said.

According to the Kennesaw Police Department, the city’s most recent crime statistics show 243 property crimes per 100,000 residents in 1998, or .243 per 1,000.

The city’s crime rate continues to be far below other metro Atlanta city’s with similar populations, like Decatur. In 1998, Decatur recorded 4,049 property crimes per 100,000 residents.

Jones said one motivation for the council passing the ordinance had to do with publicity.

“It was done in response to a law passed by Morton Grove, Ill., outlawing gun ownership within the city limits,” he said. “Several council members were upset Morton Grove had gotten a lot of attention with their ordinance so they decided to top them.

“They figured the gun ownership ordinance would knock that city right off the front pages. They were right.”

Jones said the ensuing publicity surrounding the law has given Kennesaw worldwide name recognition.

“I have been to Australia and Europe and when I tell people I am from Kennesaw they recognize the name as the place that requires everyone to own a gun,” he said.

But Stephenson said the issue was not publicity-driven but issue-driven.

“We believed in the right of people to own guns,” he said.

Jones said he has sold 550 copies of a 1994 book about the first-of-its-kind law, “The Law Heard ‘Round the World.”

He said the law in its final form has many loopholes, so not everyone is required to own a gun.

“There are many outs,” he said. “When you look at it, almost anyone could fit into one of the exempted groups.”

Kennesaw Police Chief Dwaine Wilson said no one has ever been prosecuted under the ordinance.

Among those exempt are residents “who conscientiously oppose maintaining firearms as a result of beliefs or religious doctrine.” Others exempt include the physically and mentally disabled, paupers and those convicted of a felony.

The law contains no clause addressing punishment for violating the law. If convicted, City Clerk Diane Coker said punishment would be determined by the general penalty clause of the Kennesaw Code Ordinance – probably a fine of about $100.

Jones said the unusual law has not deterred anyone from moving to Kennesaw.

“Our population has increased just like everyone’s in Georgia in the past 20 years,” he said. “The law really hasn’t done any harm to the city’s growth.”

The city’s population in 1998 was recorded at 14,493 – a sharp increase over the 8,936 residents recorded in the 1990 census.

Cobb Chamber of Commerce president Bill Cooper said odd laws are typically not counted as strike against a city when a business is looking to relocate.

“These laws don’t have laws don’t have an impact on a company’s decision to move to Cobb County,” Cooper said.

“Many communities have strange laws that are out of date. Businesses look at many factors when relocating, such as quality of life, education, infrastructure and available workforce.”

Bentley said the law actually may have helped business development.

“Kennesaw is home to more manufacturing businesses than any other Cobb city,” he said. “Companies have said they want to be located in conservative areas.”

Maybe you should rethink your position….as they say, “The proof is in the pudding”

    • John J. Haeg

The politicians have this all wrong…. There was a time of where firearm ownership had respect especially when firearms were passed from one generation to the next. Now, the government has done a very good job of demonizing the very tools that brought us our liberty in the first place. To those who will listen, educating our children, teaching accountability and responsibility will do far more good in lowering firearm violence than trying to remove the rights of its citizens. Incorporate firearm education along with the DARE program teaching the responsibility of being drug free with firearm safety will do more than proposing “gun free zones”. Knowledge is power, removing the stigma of demonizing those of us who obey the law and yet own firearms as being the problem. Society is the problem in not teaching the proper values, morals, and virtues of being an American Citizen promoting to live our lives our forefathers intended of being a free people. What the government is doing is eroding those very principles of freedom of being more subservant to the government than government being subservant to the people the way our forefathers envisioned.

      • Phil Means

I, for the most part agree with Mr. Haeg. We must teach students about our government, freedoms and the resposibility which goes with our freedoms. I disagree with DARE because DARE teaches some huge lies about drinking, these lies override any good DARE has taught when they are discovered. If you are taught drugs are bad, smoking is bad and anyone who drinks is an alcoholic and the student learns later that taking a drink does not make you an alcoholic then the student logically desides the rest of the spiel is a lie. Concentrate teaching on civil behavior and the history of our great nation.

        • BR549

Phil wrote: “We must teach students about our government, freedoms and the resposibility which goes with our freedoms.” Wise words.

We will never move past our fears unless we have the courage to embrace them, and if we continually hover over our children, they will never have the confidence to take on new challenges. But then that is what the globalists have been after for decades, to have us raise a generation of sheep. Try arguing that point with some histrionic helicopter mom, who staunchly defends “her” right that one else should have guns, and she’d run over you with her Volvo station wagon with the Obama stickers on the back, not thinking twice about having just spilled her latte.

    • Disgusted

You are right. A point to consider… the shooter in Aurora passed a movie theater that was larger and closer to his home than the one he opened fire in. Could it have been that the one he passed up did not have a sign declaring that no guns were allowed, as the one he entered had ? No one actually has to have a firearm for people to be safe. What has to be done is make the shooter wonder if someone is armed and will fight fire with fire. Can an armed citizen stop a crime in process ? There are people who would say no. My uncle was a manager of a fast food restaurant. He would open up at 2 A.M. and make biscuits while the other employees attended to the public. He was bringing biscuits out, when a man with a gun approached one of his employees demanding money. Eight customers were there, and one had a concealed handgun. My uncle retreated to the office and called 911. The customer pulled his gun, and fired one shot… hitting the top of the doorjam. The robber ? He forgot about his demand for moneyand ran out of the restaurant. No one was injured, not even the robber. Remember that they don’t want to be shot any more than we do.

      • Vicki

        Disgusted writes:

They would be wrong. There is ample evidence on you-tube. There have been studies

And there is also the matter of

~300 MILLION Americans who did not shoot anyone.

        STOP PUNISHING THE INNOCENT.

        Stop it
        Stop it NOW.

Can Can you assure us that in every establishment in America, there will be a trained civilian with a gun available to stop the person with an assualt weapon? We have enough guns for every single person to be carrying. Will you be willing to bet your life that they are all trained and won’t hit innocent people like the New York Police did recently? I wouldn’t put my life in the hands of half of the gun owners I know. I own a gun, but am not trained like the professionals, therefore I don’t carry. I know you people want to go back to the 18th century, but the rest of us don’t want to go back to the gun toting days of the Wild West. Hence the name.

        • BR549

Cindy wrote: “I know you people want to go back to the 18th century, but the rest of us don’t want to go back to the gun toting days of the Wild West. Hence the name.”

In an ideal world, that might apply, but too many people are too ready to trash the existing Constitution because they can’t see what relevance that archaic “piece of paper”, as that ignoramus Bush43 called it, would have in these modern times. That’s like a 10 year old thinking he has the necessary skills to take his father’s car out for a spin, just because he was clever enough to watch how the keys were turned in the ignition switch. Forget about having developed any adequate sense of remorse or responsibility, that he probably isn’t even tall enough to functionally reach the pedals, or that the kid’s parents would have to shoulder the burden of any damage he might incur.

This is the mentality of people nowadays; they have ZERO understanding of the intricate order in which our founding documents were written and how they address a necessary restraint against uneducated citizens’ ability to screw up a free lunch program. Ask someone about John Locke, Chief Canasatego and the Albany Plan of Union, the Federalist Papers, the Kentucky and Virginia Resolutions, the Act of 1871, and they are clueless. Operation Northwoods or Garden Plot? Not a clue.

But somehow these brain trusts feel competent enough to engage in discussions that seek to condemn the wisdom of our forefathers and, at the first suggestion by some opportunistic globalist in the White House, whether Reublican or Democrat, to shed those troublesome documents, they naively assume that we have achieved some level of social and civil maturity and excellence, enough to graduate from this tedious academic political exercise. Nothing could be further from the truth.

The truth is that our population has failed the class miserably. They look at the Second Amendment and all they see if what they feel, and that is just the jerking of their own knees in reaction to political manipulation directed at removing the last defense that our forefathers had designed for us.

As one well worded bumper sticker had stated; “Our forefathers would have been reloading by now,” but I doubt these people today would understand the significance of why. After a lifetime of misinformation or even willful ignorance, they fall victim to cognitive dissonance because the sudden onslaught of the truth of conflicting data is too much for them to take. They go into denial and then become unreachable, and a part of the problem; not because they have a different view of the problem, but because they haven’t even grasped the depth of the real problem.

Back to the 18th Century? You make it sound like we deserve our PhD in Political Science, when we haven’t even made it to the third grade. And the globalists are MORE than willing to have you continue to err in that arrogance, while they remove from you the very rights that you seem to have either never learned or have forgotten.

Of course the government can not. That is what is wrong with GunFree Zones.

        - Cindy: “We have enough guns for every single person to be carrying. Will you be willing to bet your life that they are all trained and won’t hit innocent people like the New York Police did recently?”

Good point. Take guns away from the police. To dangerous. Civilians are MUCH better at hitting what they shoot. search for “Armed Citizens Make Fewer Mistakes Than Police” in this link. http://actionamerica.org/guns/guns1.shtml

        - Cindy: “I wouldn’t put my life in the hands of half of the gun owners I know. I own a gun, but am not trained like the professionals, therefore I don’t carry.”

Or you live in a state that won’t allow you to. You might consider getting training. Look up Front Sight Firearms Training Institute in google.

        - Cindy: “I know you people want to go back to the 18th century, but the rest of us don’t want to go back to the gun toting days of the Wild West. Hence the name.”

Well then by all means go to any of those gun free zones through out the world. Lots of gun free countries to choose from. America is NOT one of them. See Amendment 2, US Constitution.

You may as well pass a law in Chicago that prohibits breathing the air in their city without a permit. I wonder how many people would comply with the law. If this sounds silly, it is the same thing as telling criminals they cannot have guns, knives, baseball bats, etc.

Obamacare already in effect for nation as well as Chicago. If you breath, you must pay the health care tax. With exemptions for buying crony capitalist government “approved” insurance.

Obama and his fellowChicago anti-gun fanatic and number lackey should drive incognito in an unmarked police car around their Chicago and let’s see what happens in their sojourn of 10 hours patrol from 8PM to 6AM. I am sure Emanuel will not mean “God With Us.”

This is a “DIRECT” result of “progressivism”. They created this, they own it and NO “progressive” ideas are going to fix this. This city is comprised of politians and their “patronage” union armies, crony elites, gay community and gangs (home grown & illegals). That’s IT! And the best part is, they are all isolated from one another. That’s some “collective”, you’ve collected. Yes Mrs. Clinton, AGAIN, it does matter how you are raised, however, your parents may have missed that lesson as well. You want to help this situation, then staple the Ten Commandments onto the forehead of every one of these so called “good citizens”. They have absolutely no “respect” for one another and their “leaders” like it this way. Pathetic.

Didn’t they(progressives) do the same think to Detroit?oh..wait that was suppose to be the model for the progressive nwo and union work thing, and it failed so they went to California, and you see how that………………..i’m sorry, that’s a totally different thing!!the liberals and progressives clearly know what their doing, sorry for bringing that up!!

      NOT!

      • Robert Smith

“Didn’t they(progressives) do the same think to Detroit?”

No, the 1% shipped all the jobs out and left a big hole in their economy.

You might want to take a moment and look at ALL the factors for the downfall of a city and not just rant blindly.

        Rob

      • OneGuess

But, but, “Rob”, you “rant blindly” on this site all the time.

      • Gordon

Factual example, check it out yourself.
Economy goes to pot (no pun intended), crime takes over.
Crime involves pot and drugs, robbery and murder.
Blacks take over, whites move out.
Mexicans take over, blacks move out.
Muslims take over, everybody moves out.

The great social experiment of the 60s has finally come to fruition, we reap what we have sown.

Call me racist if you want to….. I didn’t make it happen.

      • Nancy in Nebraska

Robert, it is the role of the progressives to take away the jobs. They WANT the people to be entirely dependent on the government! The progressives created the environment for the jobs to go away! The trade treaties that made it more profitable to send the jobs to China, India, Mexico etc… were designed by the progressives. Keep in mind that these are so called “progressives”, not republicans OR democrats. This country is being systematically destroyed on PURPOSE!!! Our enemies could never defeat us with their armies and weapons, but they have defeated us by infiltrating our country (both parties) and changing us from within. Gradually, over the years they have taken away everything that made this country great! We have very little left. Are we gonna let them take it all?!? I SAY NO!!!!!!! NO MORE!!!!!!

      • Mike in MI

        Rob –
Your lies jut get progressively more whoppin’ all the time. Congratulaions. That is the lie of the day. You get the prize.
It was due to the successive democratic “leaders” constantly courting/encouraging evil of every sort, and applauding, the gangsters and unions, putting the squeeze on the business community, throwing the money from the productive sector at the non-working (beer swilling winos, whores, pimps, johns and others who spread syphilis like it was peanut butter) “noble” poor who came to expect bigger and better payouts and payoffs over about 60 years until the businessmen and women hollered “uncle” or just gave up and left town.
Then they started the cycle all over again, and again, and again until the well just went dry.
Just like Obama’s doing to the nation.

Chicago politics has always been a little rough and tumble and strange to say the least. Its also a very popular city to live in with lots of energy. Like any big city you take the good with the bad. Sorry big cities don’t offer cornfields or large manicured lawns yet that is where the majority of folks live or at least in the surrounding suburbs. Isn’t that strange how we complain about big city life yet that’s where we flock to.

      • ibcamn

Edward, you ever live or own a shop in Chicago or surrounding area?it use to be a area that had family owned places and was, yes,a meeting destination for many people, but now most people are moving out of the city to enjoy rural life and only(may)have to work in the city, and some people just love big city life, doesnt mean they don’t want to be safe dipstick!!and some flock(as you say)to the city because they have to!as for the politics,it’s all rotten to the core, and way to liberaly politicaly correct of a town to want to live there anymore(many of my friends, and myself included!)that town is just f#$%ed!most residents themselves say it needs to be “flushed”!Obama’s a$$ warmed a seat there, enuff said!

      • Don 2

I find it even more strange how you make excuses for the rampant crime law-abiding city folks are forced to live with, while the Chicago Democrats keep them defenseless.

It seems to me that one of the primary reasons “some folks” flock to the big cities is that big cities offer “big welfare” benefits. They also provide a flock of drug dependent customers for the drug entrepreneurs to grow their businesses. I’m sure that if politicians in Chicago lowered the welfare benefits, that many would opt to seek warmer climates.

Of course that option would then decrease their number of voters who keep them in power. It’s a perfect symbiotic relationship. Extract money from the taxpayers (host body), shuffle some of it to the parasites (welfare folks), and the parasites keep the extractors in place.

      • eddie47d

[comment has been edited] yes I use to live outside of Chicago until 19 and I do know about Chicago style politics. My parents use to complain about Mayor Daley back in the 60′s. My brothers wife’s family lives there as does their son and daughter. I don’t like driving in any big city but that has nothing to do with Chicago I just don’t like gridlock. I live in Denver and we have some gang problems yet our city is vibrant too. We have growth even in poor parts of the city although slower than 10 years ago. If you live in a city you help make it work instead of running with your tail between your legs.

        Eddie,
You say: “Chicago politics has always been a little rough and tumble and strange to say the least”. Is rough and tumble your definition of corrupt?
I think you need to face it. Corruption pays in Chicago. Why else would Raum Emmanuel have gone back there to run for the mayor’s job? Surely not through any desire for public good or community betterment. We all know him better than that. I mean, for crying out loud, he was part of Obama’s crew.
Chicago is the way it is because of corruption from the top down. The whole state of Illinois operates that way. It has been that way since Lincon’s time. Nothing ever changes there except those doing time after having made their fortunes as ‘public servants’.
I used to live in a small town in the northwest of the state. The state cops would show up once every year or two, make a big show of confiscating a roulette wheel, some craps tables and a few slots. A week later all was back to usual and you could gamble to your heart’s content.
Emmanuel is just the latest Capone wanna be.

eddie teddy 47 ways to be a commie. Have you ever been out of Denver and to Chicago? I use to go a lot to watch the cubs and white sox and then because my daughter lived outside Chicago, have riden the El more times then you can lie. It has always been a corrupt city, and has as much crime as Detroit, New York, DC and the rest of the cities with strick gun control laws, if it dropped into the lake, would make no never mind to me. The same for the others cities just as evil as Chicago. Denver is becoming the same because of all the immoral demo-rats that live here. The best thing that could happen to Colorado is for all you nazi’s to move to the cities mentioned above and take all the other immoral people with you and we can once again have clean air.

Does taking away my guns remove a single gun from the hands of even one criminal? Your position, like that of the gun grabbers in DC, makes no sense. And yes, for you as for them, it was never about the children – it was about the gun grabbing. The key word in the phrase “gun control” has never been “gun” – it has always been “control.”

  • http://uncleteddysreducationcamp.com Thaddeus Toad

The criminals that run chicago do not want law abiding citizens to be armed for several reasons…. All one has to do is listen to that Bozo McCarthy and you will understand why the city is like the wild west…. Criminals are not afraid of the police, however, law abiding citizens should be…

    • Warrior

Yes but, rahmfather and mccarthy have a plan. They are going to take 200 officers away from their desk jobs and put them out in the street. Chi-town street policeman stationed in the “hoods” have one of the crappiest jobs in the world. I think there will be some “early retirements” coming soon.

    • eddie47d

The police are not always your friend anymore than a criminal is. As many posters here readily admit or at least say that most guns that criminal possess are stolen which is one reason why communities ban guns. Homeowners are notorious for leaving their weapons lying around making them easy targets for theives. Bingo! Another gun on the street! I digress and say they come from legitimate sources outside the community. In the Chicago area as the article stated Indiana is a favorite pipeline for gun runners. I would say Milwaukee is for their gun dealers have been busted before for selling under the table. They are also only an hour away. Maybe in Chicago since killings are up and guns are outlawed anyone caught with a weapon should be shot on site or given a life sentence at trial. If the criminal is merciless it might be time to give them a taste of their own medicine.

      • Dennis48e

” I would say Milwaukee is for their gun dealers have been busted before for selling under the table.”

Where is your proof of that eddie. If we take your word that it happened this just shows the system works. The crooked dealers were caught and shut down. However given the reliability of your past posts on the subject I doubt very much it ever happened.

      • eddie47d

The problem with busting dealers is that the law is generally on their side and difficult to prove. Thanks to the NRA and their bevy of lawyers. I mentioned X-Caliber Guns yesterday to you (gun running). There is Carter Country Guns in Houston involved in illegal sales (murder case). Rayco Gun Sales in Juneau Alaska (murder case) Badger Sales in Milwaukee selling to minors in the shooting of two police officers. The problem with you Dennis is that you are in continual denial .

      • Dennis48e

In the X-Factor case the judge threw the case out and declared the business/owners NOT GULITY. However I did not ask about other cities I asked for proof of your Millwakee claims. I do see ONE instance of a dealer in Millwaukee being charged however it is not a case related to massive gun running to Chicago. As for my being in denial, It just ain’t so given your past lack of credibility in your claims I expect you to provide PROOF anytime you make a claim so it can be double checked.

      • JeffH

Two of the gun stores involved in the ATF’s “Fast and Furious” scheme were Carter’s Country in Houston and J&G Gun Sales in Prescott, Ariz.

“Let me tell you something about Carter’s Country. They have been co-operating with ATF from the get-go,” says Carter’s County attorney Dick Deguerin.

“They were told to go through with what they considered to be questionable sales. They were told to go through with sales of three or more assault rifles at the same time or five or more 9-mm guns at the same time or a young Hispanic male paying in cash. It’s all profiling, but they went through with it.”

Both gun stores felt burned by the ATF — first by leaked records to The Washington Post that showed the two stores responsible for dozens of guns found at Mexican crime scenes, and now by Operation Fast and Furious.

“You assumed they had your back,” added J&G President Brad Desaye. “Absolutely, we felt like partners with ATF in a lot of ways.”

      • JeffH

        Rayco Sales case dismissed!

On Aug. 2, 2006, a man walked into Rayco Sales gun shop in Juneau and asked to look at a .22 caliber rifle. The store owner, Ray Coxe, and the man examined and talked about the gun together, and Coxe gave the man a quote — $195.

The man didn’t buy the gun and picked up his backpack as if to leave the store. When Coxe walked into the back of the store, the man, later identified as Jason Coday, took the rifle and left two $100 bills on the counter.

Two days later, the man used the rifle to murder a 26-year-old man working at the Juneau Fred Meyer whom he had never met before in an unprovoked attack. It was Juneau’s first murder in five years.

Was it an illegal sale off the books? The question now goes before the Alaska Supreme Court. Or rather, the question of whether that should be a question for a jury to decide now goes before the Supreme Court. Oral arguments in the matter

A trial court judge had agreed with Sholty that the Kim family’s(murdered man’s family)lawsuit against Rayco Sales and claim of an illegal sale was based on “unsupported assumptions and speculation” and that it could not overcome Coxe’s sworn testimony. The judge granted a summary judgment, which dismissed the case without it going to a jury.

      • JeffH

Badger Guns, Milwaukee had their FFL license revoked and are no longer in business…rightfully so.

The documents released to the Journal Sentinel through an open records request show the store had nine violations found during the ATF’s 2009 inspection. Several were repeat infractions from an earlier inspection.

The violations included failing to complete federally required paperwork on gun sales and keep accurate inventory records – two areas considered crucial for tracking guns and allowing the agency to quickly trace guns used in crimes.

“That is the heart of why good records must be kept,” said Michael Bouchard, former ATF assistant director for field operations.

In less than two years, six Milwaukee police officers were wounded with guns sold by Badger Guns or Badger Outdoors. Four of those officers have sued the owners.

      • JeffH

eddie, of the 4 you mentioned, only Badger has been found guilty of violations. That is 1 of 4 or 25% accuracy…you have to do better than that.

The ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives), looked at the worst of the worst as far as gun dealers in this country. Out of 800,000 gun dealers, they found 16 in the entire nation who had any kind of inventory discrepensies.

That is 16 out of 800,000 gun dealers or .00002%.

Keep in mind that multiple chain stores like Dick’s,Sports Authority, K-Mart, Gart store, Big-5 etc, and others are included in that total. As far as FFL licenses, there are about ~140,000.

      • JeffH

eddie says “As many posters here readily admit or at least say that most guns that criminal possess are stolen which is one reason why communities ban guns. Homeowners are notorious for leaving their weapons lying around making them easy targets for theives.”

Another lie perpetrated by the pro-gun confiscationaire eddie.

I’d say that your comment was disingenuous but in your case it is just another ignorant and intentional lie. To even suggest that homeowners are notorious for leaving their weapons(guns)lying around sheds light on why you are regarded as an ignorant liar…because that is what you are.

You’re either totally ignorant or dumb as a “sack of hammer”…I say it’s both!

        Eddie 47,

Eddie, it might be best just to tuck your tail between your legs and slink out of here.
        Just a suggestion.

      • wheels

Yes eddie, lets make gun ownership for the law-abiding citizen and criminals alike illegal and we will all be safe! It worked with cocain, smak, designer drugs, pot………………………
        Didn’t it?

      • eddie47d

Not so fast slick Jim Chambers for the owner of X-Caliber did indeed sell 700 weapons to straw purchasers who then sold them to the Mexican cartels. Sure he may have beaten the wrap yet the straw buyers were found guilty. Sometimes there just isn’t enough proof to nail the top dog. There were missteps with all those dealers so how does that make me a liar? Its kind of like some folks wanting to nail Eric Holder with F & F but only got the little fishes in Phoenix.

      • Vicki

eddie47d tries to demonize gun owners by writing:
“Homeowners are notorious for leaving their weapons lying around making them easy targets for thieves.”

Proof by bald assertion. Considering the price of guns these days most unlikely.
Oh and have you locked up your kitchen utensils? Can’t have them lying around making them easy targets for thieves.

      • Dennis48e

eddie in the X-Factor case they were declaired NOT GULITY. The case was not thrown out on a technicality. By declairing then NOT GULITY the judge affirmed that X-Factor followed the rules and did nothing wrong.

    • JUKEBOX

and if they spend the next 100 years removing the guns, they will come across a border somewhere leaving the citizenry defenseless and the police; as said above, there is a code of silence in criminals, public office and within the police itself, many cases in US Supreme Court about police silence, taking care of there own,. while not the subject, in this case the basic function here is to help the police, and their hands are admittedly tied. If we can’t keep the billions of dollars of drugs from coming into this country, guns won’t stop either. Nevertheless, modern machinery has a new computer software that will make a gun with composites in about an hour, The sport of hunting, many jobs as guides will be gone, they’ll be guns to illuminate the over-run and balance of wildlife. This disarming everyone instead of seeking out the problem, is crazy. They’ll just take to finding a long line in front of a movie theater and drive their car into the crowd of people, this gun thing, is like kicking the cat because the dog soiled the rug.

Typically, Mr. Rolley, is cherry picking data. It is undeniably true that Chicago has an overwhelming, gun violence problem for a large variety of reasons. But New York City which has even tighter, more restrictive gun laws than Chicago has a very low murder rate, in the year 2012, 414 deaths in a population of over 12 million versus Chicago’s over 1400 murders from a population of 3 million. So if you correlate the population sizes into these figures, heavily gun-restricted New York City has about one sixteenth of Chicago’s murders.

    http://gothamist.com/2012/12/28/nyc_hits_record_low_murder_rate_in.php

But you won’t see any of these figures in Mr. Rolley’s article. That would be citing contrary evidence, something true journalists – versus poltical partisans – do all the time.

    • Dennis48e

“Last year, gunmen who shot and wounded someone got away without criminal charges 94 percent of the time, according to a DNAinfo.com Chicago analysis of police data.

That’s even worse than 2011, when 91.5 percent of shooters escaped charges, according to the data.”

I may have a solution. Ask the remainder of Illinois and they’ll readily agree….. make Chicago the 51st state. Then they can more easily regulate “interstate commerce”… those pesky 2nd amendment types can no longer pollute their endeavors…they can frisk you down prior to entering the “state” and either confiscate the contraband or just deny entry…. sounds like a win-win. Sadly it’ll never happen because Chi-town will no longer be able to parasitize down-state and it’ll collapse under its own weight like California on steroids…. still fun to imagine.

    • dark angel

I live now live in a suburb of Chicago having moved out of the city years ago to raise my family. What you propose has been an ongoing debate downstate in Springfield for the last several years. There is a MAJOR movement within our capital to “cut out” the cancer Chicago is. The reason is that with Chicago, we’re are ranked as the worst state in the union

      http://www.gopusa.com/news/2013/01/28/illinois-credit-rating-worst-in-the-nation-after-downgrade/?subscriber=1

Without Chicago, Illinois becomes flush and catapults into the top 10 best states financially. Of course it’ll never happen as long as the democraps control the governor’s office. Unfortunately, my fellow residents are too stupid to realize this and they keep voting democrap. This has resulted in the last three of four governors (all democraps) serving jail time.

      • JimH

        dark angel& Alpha Lemming(cool name),
If Illinios could secede from the great state of Chicago( and its cemetaries) we would stand a chance.
One problem is state congressional disricts go by population. So many people, you have a district. Sounds fair.
Then take into consideration 50% of the states population lives in Crook County.
Half the representitives come from one county.
One county runs the rest of the state. If you are in that county you get nowhere without the endorsment of the Chicago Dem machine. So, the Chicago Dem machine rules the whole state. In their eyes the rest of Illinios is just a life support system for Chicago.

    • alpha-lemming

I’ve often said…. Illinois is a great micro-cosm, case study, representative of the US at large whereas THE major metropolitan center runs roughshod over the rural areas. And subsequently, the people who work for a living are now ounumbered by the people who vote for a living.

  • Walter77777

Gun control cannot ever work on the local level. In 2011 Chicago confiscated 50,000 guns of which 15,000 had been bought at gun shows in Cook County outside of Chicago where such shows are banned. 4,000 were traced to purchase in Mississippi, and the original source of purchase for many other weapons was undetermined..

Since we apparently cannot yet have strong national gun control laws the forces advocating gun control will just have to wait until the attitude in USA toward this changes.
    w.

Absolutely right Walter, we need National control on the items, and they will disappear. Just like prohibition removed alcohol (from Chicago) and Federal laws have removed cocaine.

Just a note: Our murder rate is over twenty-five times that of Canada. Canadian gun control is only one of the factors; I acknowledge that. Another factor may be the far smaller extremes of wealth and poverty in Canada than in USA due to their tax system.

Just another note of interest. Our murder rate is ~12,000 a year. Our population is ~300 million. so that means that for less than ~0.005% of the population you want to take away the GOD given rights of

That a boy, Walter. Let’s not deal with the problem. That would cause a good liberal like yourself to question his societal stance. Let’s just take everyone’s guns away from them and HOPE that will solve the problem just like welfare has solved the poor and needy problem and taking crazy people out of the institutions and letting them wander the streets to kill our kids has solved the problem of insanity.
I thank God that there are still people in the country that can think past the ends of their noses.
Regrettably, we don’t seem to elect them to office, we elect people like Walter here.

JUKEBOX wrote: “Gun control will never work on the national level either.”

Exactly, and it won’t work as long as the model of behavior being set by the leaders maintains that only THEY can have the guns. This is the aspect that the brain dead libtards fail to fathom. They still believe that the president is doing a great job or that he can’t get anything done because those mean spirited Republicans are constantly getting in his way, that police are always their to help you, that the troops would never be asked to fire on their own people, …….. and that Santa has eight reindeer.

As long as parasitic scum like the Rothschilds, Rockefeller, and Kissinger continue to see themselves as demi-gods and the rest of us as amoeba, the human race will doom itself. Yes, perhaps mankind might have had some level of destiny in learning enough about himself to alter his own DNA, but as long as they convince themselves that they are somehow “different” than the rest of us, they won’t be going anywhere.

    • JeffH

W77777 says “Gun control cannot ever work on the local level. In 2011 Chicago confiscated 50,000 guns of which 15,000 had been bought at gun shows in Cook County outside of Chicago where such shows are banned. 4,000 were traced to purchase in Mississippi, and the original source of purchase for many other weapons was undetermined..”

Now if you look closely, you’ll see that W77777 really didn’t say anything meaningfull.

15,000 guns purchased at “banned gun shows”? If they’re banned how can they even have a gun show let alone get a permit or even rent space for it?

4,000 were traced to purchase in Mississippi. Were the purchases legal? No mention of the legality at all.

Finally we come to…”the original source of purchase for many other weapons was undetermined”

Yep, W77777 threw out some sort of statistics and out of that the only thing that stands out is that Chicgo confiscated 50,000 guns.

Absolutley nothing else in it…whoopee for you Walter77777, your post made no sense at all.

One of the missing elements in the discussion over gun violence and the remedy for it, is the problem of armed gangs/insurgents comming over our borders. If gun control succeeds in this country, we will be subject to armed groups pouring over our southern border and taking control of whole communities. The problem was of course hightlighted in the fast and furious scandal caused by a gun grabbing repressive American government.

Obama is a communist, and is showing that he will stop at nothing until we the inocent are all eliminated as a force against him. The final step in the process is of course gun confiscation.

    • snowblind

have you ever been too San Diego ??? :) :)
it is already like that the older retired people there are afraid to go out at night

    • eddie47d

Cicero; You blew you rational by calling Obama a communist which is nothing more than political theatrics from the extreme right. It should be easy to deal with that “missing element”. Salvadoran gang members are easy to pick out and so are some cartel members from Mexico. We know what they are up to and what their mission is. Even Mexican Americans or other Latinos don’t want to be bothered by these thugs so arrest and deport them. I think Chicago has the second largest Latino community in the USA .

      • Cicero54

Eddie47d, thank you for taking time to give your views on my post. Most if not all of your comments about government awareness about the groups that you’ve identified are of course beyond dispute. However, the fact of identifying someone a communist, while certainly being a useful epithet for the intellectually lazy as some on the right and even the left are, nevertheless holds out it’s usefulness for those who are in fact stating the truth of certain positions held by doctrinaire communists.

As an example, the idea that the American system is THE problem for all the major and even minor faults of various special groups desigated minority, is the basis of that element in Marxist ideology labelled as class warfare. The ideologist starts with this premise and endevours to undertake represention of the designated repressed group in order to get concessions, and finally through a series of surrender’s by the system under attack, is finally overthrown leaving perhaps this minority group and it’s allies at the head of state. The result is the permanent tiumph of this new and dictatorial system.

This is only one example of the process used by communists to get control of a defeated enemy. I chose this example because this is the ground upon which Marxism/communism reposes. Obama has made no secret of his sponsership of this and many other elements that are specifically and identifiably communist. So that I don’t think that in the rather blunt and direct way in which I made reference to Obama as a communist is out of line here. Nor did I retreat into the vague and rather slothful practice these days of letting fall epithets and retreating without explanation. I endevoured rather to give a description of this abrasive character in the whitehouse than to call him names, which is never useful.

I hope this clarifies things a bit.

        • Walter77777

Cicero: I am a Marxist, and i assure you that gun control is an attempt to deprive the masses of the means for rising up to overthrow the government.. Obama is no Marxist; he is a moderate liberal.

Communists oppose gun control. Mao Zedong wrote, “Political power grows from the barrel of a gun.”

          w.

      • JeffH

Walter77777, to a point I have to disagree. Obama is not a liberal moderate in any sense of the word.

Obama is a hybrid radical, communist raised, a commuity organizer trained in Marxism and Chicago bred. His bible is Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals.

The ends always justifies the means and never let a crisis go to waste.

“Obama learned his lesson well. I am proud to see that my father’s model for organizing is being applied successfully beyond local community organizing to affect the Democratic campaign in 2008. It is a fine tribute to Saul Alinsky as we approach his 100th birthday.” –Letter from L. DAVID ALINSKY, son of Neo-Marxist Saul Alinsky

Obama and the Cult of Alinsky: “True revolutionaries do not flaunt their radicalism, Alinsky taught. They cut their hair, put on suits and infiltrate the system from within. Alinsky viewed revolution as a slow, patient process. The trick was to penetrate existing institutions such as churches, unions and political parties…simply following Alinsky’s counsel to do and say whatever it takes to gain power.

This whole discussion is of base. The only reason for gun control laws is to ensure that only the politicians and police have guns. They don’t give a rat’s patootie if criminals get guns, so long as they can keep the general populace under control.
The second amendment of the Constitution of the United States is the most feared document in Capitals everywhere. It implements the God Given right to protect yourself and your family especially from the government. A government which fears the people will do anything to make the people fear the government. When we see signs of that, the people should rise and remove the perpetrator (law maker) who tries to restrict our rights. Senator Feinstein and all other congress critters are authorized to carry weapons. The president, his family and all his staff are protected by secret service. The constitution does not even authorize a federal police force. We have the following federal police at a minimum:
FBI, CIA, DHS, ICE, TSA, FEMA, DI, Park Service, DOT,
I’m sure with a minimum of digging, a lot of others can be found.
Ask yourself why the FEMA people would need 16,000 M16s and 2,000,000,000 rounds of ammo. FEMA is supposed to be an agency which assists disaster recovery and works with not above the state/ local governments. Who put them in sole charge of crowd control?

In a place like Chicago, it would seem that the message from Alcohol prohibition has been forgotten. If you want to reduce the gun violence in Chicago, you have to end drug prohibition. More guns aren’t the answer. It’s the Drug War Stupid and the turf wars that go with it.

  • BR549

“Lately, the police say they are discovering far more guns on the streets of Chicago than in the nation’s two more populous cities, Los Angeles and New York.”

There’s probably a lot more illegal guns on the streets, even in non-Gun Free cities, but the owners of those illegal guns are having to mind their Ps and Qs because they know they might get their ass blown to Kingdom Come by a law abiding citizen.

  • T. Jefferson

Chicago is full of flying bullets because it is illegal for citizens to defend themselves.

  • Richard from Camano

Back in 1960 the city fathers hired a police chief from a southern California city to run the Chicago police department and rid the city of the corruption that was decades old. He didn’t make it very long, did he? The problem is the City Fathers and Politicians are a bunch of corrupt scum and have been since I was born there 77 years ago. As long as the morons in the city vote in the criminal politicians you will have the drug gangs running the city and the killing will go on for a long time. The cops have their hands tied so don’t look to them to solve the problem that the crooks running the city are making millions from. Look who they just put up and elected as mayor. Is it anymore obvious that the machine is the machine and NO ONE will get rid of it as long as the political morons are in office and hand out goodies to the moronic voters.

    • kimo3690

Makes absolute sense to ME Richard….. and perhaps our forefathers had the insight 200+ years ago to make sure the 2nd Amendment reads as it does…. it is an absolute…. no room for interpretation…. AGAINST a tryannical government!!

  • Greg

Chicago’s attitude toward crime and gun control is not based in reality-they know they can’t control the crime but they think that, by controlling and bullying the law abiding public they are still “doing something.” That they look impotent, corrupt, foolish, and powerless doesn’t matter-just double down on the mistakes and stay there.

  • FreedomFighter

“While they’re at it, perhaps Biden, Pelosi and Barack Obama could convince gang leaders to turn over their crack, smack and coke as well. How the hell are those drugs making it into the City of Chicago, anyhow? They are, of course, illegal in all 50 States.”

The drugs are mostly coming accross the southern border, an open border provided by Obama, Biden, Pelosi and dirty harry Reid.

Criminals and gangs will never give up guns, they will get them the same way they get drugs.

Destruction of the United States is the plan, to disarm the American citizens is a must, implosion of the dollar a must, a unsustainable entitlement system is a must…to destroy the USA and to bring in the NWO slave world.

Chicago, like all major cities, have one thing in common. Over 85% of the shooting victims have criminal records; that’s right the victims. In other words it’s one criminal killing another. I don’t think the cities need less guns, they need more ammo. Build a wall around the inner city ghettos and let them kill each other off. Good ridence to bad garbage.

You won’t though. You, like all good hypocrites, would rather stay here and make the rest of us miserable with your whining and inane propaganda.
I fail to understand people like you who would rather give up their rights than to deal with the real problem. Why people like you lie down and accept such things as Obama care where they take more and more of your rights and your money all the while reducing the number of decisions that you are able to make for yourself?
People like you are symptomatic of the decay of individuality going on in this country. Your acquiescence gives your oppressors heart, my friend. As they keep taking rights away from you they keep pandering to your need to be taken care of. You swap your right to make decisions regarding your health care for government assurance that you will be taken care of by those who will make your decisions for you. It will cost you increased taxes but you will buy into it when they tell you that they are really going to stick it to those who have more than you.
From your comments, I guess I can surmise that the era of personal responsibility is over. Guys like you elected the person in office now. Hopefully, you and I don’t get what you desire. I don’t want to live as a socialist.

      • Cicero54

Jim, I have to say well said! May I support your assertion with something that Alexis de Tocqueville said in one of his books “Democracy in America?”To wit: “In fact, a manly and lawful passion for equality arouses in men the desire to be strong and honored; this passion tends to raise the weak to the ranks of the strong. But also, we encounter in the hearts of men a degenerate taste for equality which inspires the weak to bring the strong down to their own level and reduces men to prefer equality in a state of slavery to inequality in a state of freedon. Not that nations with a democratic system have a natural scorn for freedon–rather they have an instinctive taste for it.” And further: ” The
ambtions of individual citizens grow with the power of the state; the strength of parties increases with the importance of the ends they have in view; but the love of one’s country which should withstand these destructive passions is no stonger in a large than in a small republic.”

If one then complicates the issue with a complete simplicity as encountered in Marx, and Marx’s knowledge of this human desire for settled things and consistency, then you have the perfect formula for the destruction of any system of government as a resolution into the proletariat maw that we have witnessed too many times.

It has been said that we Americans are too familiar with the contemptuous driving out of the Tarquins of ancient Rome to fall prey again to Tarquinius.I wonder, don’t you, if we have reached the point at which we are loosing our taste for driving out Tarquinius? At what state in de Tocqueville’s analysis do we see ourselves?

Anyway, you have made a most salient point. I for one agree with you completely.

Think about that. Once the corrupt politicians use that tactic, it will tip their hand and show the rest of the country what they have in store for everyone and they aren’t ready to do that. Until then, chaos will reign supreme. Had they been able to round up the guns, what you are suggesting would have happened a long time ago.

      • Cicero54

Walter77777, you have not noticed the history of the last thirty years or so. In those years (If you had read Pravda, Isvestia and other Soviet Journals in english by the way), you would have noticed a shift in Soviet policy toward muslims. The Soviet leadership concluded that since muslims had a natural antipathy toward the largely christian west, then it made sense to make an alliance with them. This is precisely what has happened. Since the Soviet defeat in Afganistan in the early 1980′s, the Russians and the Communist world in general have taken a completely conciliatory approach to the muslims.

I point as an example of my analysis to the left wing support for muslim religious rights against those of the christian. All over the world you must have noticed the silence at muslim atrocities toward christian and other groups. You must have noticed the various mosques being built over community objections where christian strength is most noticable. The proof of communist support for this sort of thing is embodied in what most call the liberal media, which is especially noticable in New York. For how could a Jewish mayor support this sort of thing unless he was somehow in sympathy with the communists.

It appears to be the same elsewhere, where the enigma of jewish support for those who historically have been thier enemies have been in question. Why, must one ask is this the case. The reason can be found in the reformed movement of judaism where the masianic character is still strong, but the belief in God has been eleminated. There are those in the jewish community (they are a minority by they way, and most jewish people don’t support this sort of thing) who are highly organised and at the same time hold the idea that the salvation of mankind is found in the fussion of religions, political, and moral outlook. I have personal experience of this attitude because may maternal grandfather was a jew. He was a journalist and a radical. But as far as I know (since he died before I was born), he held these views of internationalism only weakly.

One must not fall prey to the guilt foist upon us if we choose to support our civilization, founded as it is upon Catholic principle ultimately. It is surprising I suppose to many here that I would say this, but christianity was at a given point shattered when at first we saw the excommunications between east and west in 1054 and then the so called reformation which is dated to about 1517. Before that we as Catholics faught our battles against everyone else, as opposed to fighting it within ourselves as well.

Really, unless we can come to that primordial unity that once perdured in our christian west, then we are reduced to nothing more than the battles necessitated in the defense of our individual and isolated persons. Combined with others we may stave off certain calamities, but in the end we will succumb to the stronger forces against us which aren’t just political but spiritual.

        May God Bless you all.

        Cicero.

We don’t have a gun problem, we have a leadership problem. The socialist/communist/ utopian/metrosexuals “SCUM” have worked since the 1970s to destroy families, to destroy parental authority, to remove consequences for wrongdoing, to villify hard work and success and to convince everyone that the Federal Government when they are given everything they want they will take care of everyone from cradle to grave. Ask the American Indians how that is working for them.

Take a confused and depressed person and put them on selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and you have every mass murderer since 1992. Take someone in the inner city of Chicago and give them a little cocaine and a gun after they have been indoctrinated since birth that they are entitled to express their anger physically and you get shootings. Momma and Pappa couldn’t spank their children when they rightously deserved it. Their teachers (custodians) at school made sure they weren’t diciplined at home and at school no matter what they did the worst they got was expulsion ( get to do what you want all day) or a time out. The progressive system has seen to it that two generations have no dicipline, no morals, no empathy, no concience and no long term drive. Everything is for the moment and there are no consequences.
Statistically the only two deterants for these products of progressives is when they know that their intended victims may be armed or they are incarcerated. Every state that has adopted “shall issue” or Constitutional carry has seen a substantial reduction in crime. This is not SCUM hype; these statistics come directly from the CDC and the FBI.
Our leadership besides no longer representing the people should take a look at the damage they have done to our nation, states and families with their “Big Brother” approach to all problems. Concealed carry has proven it adds to personal safety and reduces crime in every place it has been implimented but the SCUM in government won’t allow the people of Illinois and Kalifornia to protect themselves.

      David,
      I heartily concur.

I know the one you mean. I’ll bet she still supports Obama, believes that Gore invented the internet, and that Clinton actually left us with a surplus.

    • eddie47d

Gore never said he “invented the Internet” but he did help get it off the ground. That was another rumor started by Republicans ..no surprise there! Now the Clinton economy wasn’t bad at all and the debt was minimal. I bet even you would wish for those numbers again.

      • JeffH

Al Gore said in a March 9, 1999 interview with CNN’s Late Edition with Wolf Blitzer: “During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet.”

Following a 1999 CNN interview Gore became the subject of some controversy and ridicule when his expression “I took the initiative in creating the Internet” was widely quoted out of context, indeed often misquoted, by comedians and the popular media who took his expression to be a claim that he personally had invented the Internet.

Something is very familiar with that…”quoted out of context”, “misquoted” by comedians and the popular media(MSM)…I don’t see where the Republicans were mocking Gore but the MSM and comedians were.

As usual eddie shows his unsupported bias and starts his ignorant ranting by blaming those he hates, the Republicans.
Why didn’t you blame the conservatives while you were at it? Did you forget?

      • BR549

OK, OK, he didn’t claim that he INVENTED the internet, he just tried to get everyone to believe that he was responsible for developing the economic and business infrastructure behind it; like he was the only person in Congress conscious enough to foresee the future.

BTW, I’d guess that you think carbon taxes are a good thing too, huh?

  • tom

Laws are only good for law abiding citizens. Guns in the hands of law abiding citizens is the only law criminals will listen to !!!

    • Dave67

So your thought is to give up? Lets just get rid of all laws altogether. Real smart and well thought out…

Like the rest of the NRA parrots.

      • wheels

I don’t believe Tom mentioned anything ‘About doing away with all laws’. His statement was and is factual that the only time you will gain an armed criminal’s respect who is bent on doing you bodily harm or releaving you of the possessions that are rightfully yours and not his is to be armed yourself. Liberals never do seem to listen.

Wheels wrote: “Liberals never do seem to listen.”

They can’t. They’re too busy trying to control that knee that keeps jerking up and down.

      • Dave67

Nope he did not say “do away with all laws”… The NRA did a fine job of that for him with respect to the ATF, background checks (something which they were for in 1999 and now Mr LaPierre is against)

You fanatics have not served up any solutions to the problems of gun violence in this country and you have not read what Obama has proposed, or at least you don’t understand them.

Until you loudmouths propose something that deals with the problem. Sit down and shut up until you have something else to say besides “I want to do absolutely nothing” as more people die needlessly.

  • Dave67

All gun fanatics need to watch David Wheeler, father of one of the kids killed in Newtown CT address the CT legislature. What he sai was common sense. Some of you people need to understand what common sense is.

  • Chris

You can clean up Chicago real quick……….since criminals “don’t care”, WE shouldn’t EITHER! No lingering in jail for 25 years on the taxpayer’s dime……….if you commit a crime that kills or harms anyone else for no reason……….it’s automatic execution after your trial Bud………sane or insane. Those committing crimes have no fear………..maybe THIS will make them think twice, and if not, sayonara.

    • BR549

Chris wrote: “… if you commit a crime that kills or harms anyone else for no reason ………. it’s automatic execution after your trial ….”

The only problem with that is that Rahm and his corrupt police would say that you committed a crime because you didn’t let the burglars walk out of your house with everyone you own and that you should have run away rather than dropping the bastards as they were bashing in your front door.

  • Jimbo

Nancy in Nebraska is SO RIGHT! I’ve been trying to tell people this for years. When you murder 55 million INNOCENT unborn children, what MESSAGE does that send to our children about the value of life? When you tell people there is no God, no Hell, no Judgement, no Sin, what do they have to fear? Then put people like Adam Lanza, who already had a slim grasp on reality, in front of a violent video game, ROLE PLAYING a cop killer, or mass murderer, what is that going to do to their brain?

Obama never saw an abortion he didn’t like. Right through the day of birth. He’s the one advocating violence, not law abiding gun owners.

The answer to [expletive deleted]Chicago’s criminal problem has to do with cleaning out the cities CRIMINAL GOVERNMENT AND UNION TIES FIRST! Once that is accomplished you can go on to fix what else is wrong with the sickest city in the world. Next, on to NEW YUCK and it’s elitist government and union ties……………………………………………..

  • ilJON

eddie must never have graphed the “easy reading version” of the clinton “pin-in-place-by -his-bubbled-economy”
Eddie: Please graph the years of the wallstereet democrat non democratic musical money chairs (which you do not get to choose among) for the (then ) major named banks… and the nasdaq… pls let us knowd howd you planned tuz jess keep the 40% /year or 20% per years of increase going? Notice the GWBush controls that reduced the day traders in the bankers controls that by his restrictions leveled the graph awhile before Clintons bubble popped fruitlessly into the next decade… JUST GRAPH IT and we will weep with you !

  • ilJON

forgot to mention: My GrandFather’s neohew, children and now grands are all sad they are not the one’s helping to hold down the % crime rates in Austrailia under the govt ordered no guns… and NOW LOOK AT ONE OF THEIR ISLANDS WITH NEARING 40% ON HANDOUTS AND NO JOBS: HOW THE CRIME IS IN THE CONTROL WITH THEIR GUNS and not the peoples majority represented…!

  • jk847

Most killers would vote Democrat because they come from ethnic groups that vote that way. However, the idea is projected by everyone on the left that all these killings are the fault of right wing persons who oppose gun control. But gun control really means self defense control; limiting self defense. So apparently the left believes that tilting the balance of power to the criminals will reduce the number of killings. In Chicago it doesn’t matter because there the tilt is maximally in favor of the criminals. The criminals have already won in Chicago. But spreading draconian gun control to the entire country would let the criminals win everywhere.

    • Dave67

      Really?

Tell that to the white GOPers that shot our Sniper in TX over the weekend, or the other crazy conservative that killed a business and exec and a lawyer because his lawsuit did not go as well as he had hoped in AZ.

      Neither were “gun free” zone.

You crazy gun fanatics need to get it through your skulls that the attitudes on guns and violence needs to change.
You would also get rid of much of the gun violence in the cities if you did one simple thing…

Legalize ALL drugs, tax them and regulate them.

But that would make sense and conservatives rarely make sense.

      • BR549

Dave wrote: “You crazy gun fanatics need to get it through your skulls that the attitudes on guns and violence needs to change ………… but that would make sense and conservatives rarely make sense.”

That’s nice how you so neatly figured this whole problem out so quickly, since the rest of us are obviously too slow to deal with your increased cranial capacity. You said something that actually made sense; that about “the attitudes on guns and violence needs to change.”

You were also right about legalizing drugs, but drugs are not listed in the Bill of Rights, although it was more or less assumed back then that people could just grow and consume hemp as long as they didn’t infringe on others. But then you attempt to include anyone who is fanatically in support of their 2nd Amendment rights as a Columbine Shooter, and then show your ignorance by assuming that conservatives rarely make sense.

I would posit that what you are feeling is that awkward stage of realizing that …… there is a problem, …….. that other people have sought other avenues to address that problem, …….. but since you don’t really understand the problem OR their responses, it becomes necessary to trash contrarian viewpoints.

I’m afraid you have a lot more work to do to understand the true depth of this issue. JK847 was actually on to something that you seem to have missed entirely. You seem to have developed an addiction to the pablum being served from the White House, that fanatics are to blame for all our country’s woes, and that the MIAC Report constitutes a rational, sociopolitical viewpoint.

No, Davey, the fanatics are our societal equivalent of miners canaries who are showing us, in their own way, that something is really wrong. By your logic, if you take a canary down into a mine and it dies, I would suppose that you’d have a law passed to ban canaries from all mines. Maybe all Democrats could have “SAVE THE CANARY” bumper stickers and wear yellow all the time. They could have Canary Party meetings and feathers would be banned from all pillows, but the one thing they would continue to avoid was looking at why the birds were dying at the bottom of the mineshaft.

And nothing has changed. You and the rest of the hard core liberals have become the unwitting victims of a political “bait and switch” maneuver, except you can’t come to grips with being a victim. Rather than admitting that they are victims, they continue to enable each other and sweep the truth under the rug.

Chicago is full of flying bullets because Chicago is full of criminals that will have
and use guns regardless of legality. Chicago has criminals in the South Side,
criminals in the municipal government. Don’t ask me who does the most damage.
