Character Matters!

For too long, Americans have neglected to examine the character of the people they put up for office, focusing instead on pretty hair, a slick tongue, a well-fitting (but empty) suit and promises of something for nothing. We’re now reaping what we’ve sown, and tyranny is the result.

But don’t say we weren’t warned.

“[I]f the citizens neglect their duty and place unprincipled men in office, the government will soon be corrupted . . . . If a republican government fails to secure public prosperity and happiness, it must be because the citizens neglect the Divine commands, and elect bad men to make and administer the laws.” — Noah Webster

“The public cannot be too curious concerning the characters of public men.” — Samuel Adams

I think the opening of the money flood gates caused by the Conservative court’s Citizen’s United decision will prevent meaningful government from being elected. The money in campaigns was way too influential in elections before that decision and is a 1000 times worse since. Citizen’s United must be reversed.

Sarvis is living in his fantasy world again. http://www.opensecrets.org/orgs/list.php shows the heavy hitters, finance-wise, and it’s badly skewed to the left. Citizens United merely leveled the playing field and the leftists like Sarvis decry the fact that unions no longer have the clout they once had.

You need both love of country and faith in God to be a patriot. This leaves you out.

I think it would be refreshing to see campaigns where every candidate is given an equal amount of money to operate his campaign and the playing field is level. As it stands in America today, the crook with the biggest bank account or the richest donors wins.
Buying political offices goes hand-in-hand with how business is conducted on the Hill…let’s not forget all the money spent making behind door deals to buy votes for Obamacare. Of course, that sort of thing has gone on in American politics for many, many years. Many Congressmen truly don’t understand why “porK” is offensive to Americans. Instead, they actually believe they should go to Washington to fight for the biggest piece of the pie they can get…all on behalf of their home states, of course.
The federal government has no constitutional role in doling out goodies to the states.

Well said fellow patriot. Let us also not forget the ones that give us this freedom every day.
