Censorship-Loving Countries Trying To Take Over Internet

The United Nations has caused a stir in the past week as it has sought more global control over the Internet at the World Conference on International Telecommunications in Dubai. Tuesday night, the international organization reportedly attempted to avert controversy by introducing a late-night resolution.

China, Russia and some Arab states have led a push to hand more control of the Web to the U.N., as U.S. lawmakers and Internet companies warn of censorship, surveillance and taxes. The control would be gained by updating a key 1988 communications treaty.

The presiding chairman of the WCIT surveyed the assembled countries to see whether there was interest in having greater involvement, which a majority of the countries present supported.

According to the Internet freedom organization, Access:

The Chairman of the Conference stated that he “wanted to have the feel of the room on who will accept the draft resolution. If you can use the big board, please. To have the resolution included.” He then paused as plates were raised in favor of the resolution. Next, he stated “I want the feel of the room, who is against this resolution.” During the pause, an ostensibly different set of plates were raised. He then declared that “[t]he majority is with having the resolution in.”

The Chair then began to move to the next topic, the Preamble and the proposed addition of text on human rights obligations, but first recognized Spain. Spain proceeded to ask: “[a]s a point of order, I would like you to clarify whether the temperature you were taking was simply a taking of the temperature. Has it now been interpreted as a vote and had we known that it was a vote, we might very well have acted differently.” “No,” the chair replied, “it was not a vote, and I was clear about it.”

The shady middle-of-the-night resolution leaves it unclear how the closed-door conference will affect the future of global Internet freedom, but the possible implications are great. The impact could mean foreign meddling in free speech rights enjoyed by Americans.

One portion of the resolution reads: “…as stated in the WSIS outcomes, all governments should have an equal role and responsibility for international Internet governance and for ensuring the stability, security and continuity of the existing Internet and its future development and of the future internet, and that the need for development of public policy by governments I consultation with all stakeholders is also recognized…”

Here is a draft of the entire resolution.

That should be censorship loving GOVERNMENTS trying to take over the internet. Regrettably that includes our own. Any country can already control the part of the net that is in their territory so this is just a smoke screen for all governments to get control while blaming those “other” governments for outvoting them.

Take away our freedom of speech on the internet and you take away the ability to say “Screw the UN” on the internet….see how that works?

This is probably the single most important thing we can do to maintain freedom, keep the internet free.

The internet is our last bastion of truly free speech. The left controls the MSM, and the right dominates talk radio. We can’t let a NWO take away our ability to find facts and attempt to discern the truth.

SINCE THIS CONFERENCE WAS HELD IN DUBAI, MAYBE, ARABS ARE TRYING TO TELL AMERICANS TO STOP Googling IN OUR BUSINESS. SINCE PEOPLE UTILIZE THE INTERNET TO CHECK INTO OTHERS’ BACKGROUNDS, I MAY “BE ON TO SOMETHING.” [Think about it - United States is obsessed with knowing which Middle-Eastern nations have nuclear-weapons capabilities; and, with knowing where "terrorist-cells hang-out"].

PEOPLE, AS TIME GOES ON, “THE SUBLIMINAL” BECOMES MORE IMPORTANT.

  • Bill

It is all about taxation. The internet is the last free marketplace and the UN is looking to tap into that income stream

a lot of these countries have no freedom of speech. china controls their citizens opinions. look at russia when putin won the election. people were arrested for protesting his victory. a lot of the arab countries prosecute people who oppose them. look at the presidential election in iran last time. they were protesting the rigging of the election and bunches of them were put in prisons for it. opinion is very controlled in their countries. the internet is one of this countries forms of free speech. it keeps us very informed. we probly learn more about everything than we ever have. all it would do is do away with the first amendment which gives us the right to free speech.

Indeed, and that easy education is exactly what the gang leaders fear. The more educated we become, the less we need them.

I PERSONALLY THINK THAT MOST OF THE CONSTITUTION HAS ALREADY BEEN DESTROYED. WE LOST THE RIGHT OF FREE SPEECH A LONG TIME AGO. THE ACTIONS OF MOST OF THE POLICE IN THIS COUNTRY HAVE ALREADY DEMONSTRATED THAT. SURE THERE ARE SOME GOOD COPS OUT THERE BUT THE SYSTEM IS DOING AWAY WITH THEM AS FAST AS THEY CAN. THEY ARE MILITARIZED NOW. EVEN THOUGH THEY SAY THE SACRED WORDS MOST OF THEM HAVE NEVER RED THE DOCUMENT. I THINK THAT IT DOESN’T MATER WHAT YOU DO OR POST ON THE NET YOU ARE BEING WATCHED AND IF THEY DON’T LIKE WHAT YOU SAY YOUR DOOR MIGHT BE KICKED IN AND IF THEY WANT TO KILL YOU AT THAT TIME THEY WILL AND NOTHING WILL BE DONE TO THEM. FOR REASONS LIKE THIS THE NET WILL NOT GO DOWN. IT IS THE BEST TOOL THAT THE CORRUPT GOVERNMENTS HAVE TO GATHER INFORMATION ON ALL OF US. THEY KNOW EVERYTHING THAT IS SAID OR SEARCHED. THEY HAVE PROGRAMS THAT FIND WORDS ON A LIST AND IF IT SHOWS UP THAT SITE WILL BE TAGGED TO A LIST. JUST ABOUT ALL OF THE REPRESENTATIVES WE’VE ELECTED IN THIS COUNTRY ARE NOW OWNED BY BIG BUSINESS THAT ARE NOW ALL CONTROLLED BY THE BUILDER BURGH GROUP/ILLUMINATI 1%. SAVE A VERY FEW. THIS WE DID TO OURSELVES BY NOT USING OUR VOTE TO PROTECT OURSELVES. NOW THEY ARE SO POWERFUL THAT WE CANT UNDO THE DAMAGE THAT WE OUR SELVES HAVE DONE. THE END POINT IS THAT WE NO LONGER HAVE ANY PERSONAL LIBERTY. ONE OF OUR FOUNDING FATHERS SAID LOVE YOUR LIBERTY AND FIGHT FOR IT LIKE A MAN WHO KNOWS ITS VALUE FOR WHEN ITS GONE IT CAN NEVER BE REGAINED.WE DIDN’T LISTEN TO THIS WISE MAN AND NOW ITS IS GONE. EVEN AS I POST THIS I KNOW THAT I HAVE TO LEAVE MY EMAIL ADDRESS AND IF THESE PEOPLE HAD NEVER HERD OF ME NOW THEY CAN FIND OUT ANYTHING ABOUT ME THAT THE DESIRE. CENSORSHIP…….

The internet does not “belong” to anyone or any country. Where is cyberspace anyway? It should remain free for everyone without any censorship, taxation or other contamination by the UN or any individual country (or any individual, or that matter).

First, _____ the UN and all who think it serves a functional purpose. Second, if you haven’t put this administration on that list, you have a serious mental situation going on between your ears. Third, THINK, people. Do you realize what people are trying to tell you when they want the internet censored? What the bloody, stinking ____ do you use for a brain, people?
For the hardcore retards and morons in this crowd, read Orwell’s 1984. If you can’t read, have someone read it to you. Is it safe to conclude that your public education has caught with you, and that’s why you don’t like to THINK? ____ your self-esteem, _____ your icons and most of all,____ the self-made retard that you see in the mirror every day.

SC, Both you and Danny are a bit paranoid. I tend to agree with much of the import of your post. I know we’re losing our Liberty. That’s been foretold by Ben Franklin, De Tocqueville among others. Historically, it’s been proven that Democracies, generally get the type of Governance that they deserve. If a Plurality of Americans voted for our Condition, that’s what we deserve. We can possibly recover semblance of our Constitutional provisions, but we can’t stay the inevitable forever.
    Dennis

    • DaveH

So you think if two wolves and a sheep vote what’s for dinner that makes it legitimate, Dennis?

  • charlie

get us out of the un and send them packing from our country NOW NOW

  • DaveH

The UN is an body, not elected by the People, which was created FOR Leaders, BY Leaders. Don’t expect them to represent anybody but the Leaders.
