Did Bachmann Leave Church To Avoid ‘Papacy Is The Antichrist’ Controversy?
Representative Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) was for many years a member of the Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stillwater, Minn., which belongs to the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS). However, just before she announced her candidacy on June 27, the church council granted a request from the Bachmanns to be released from their membership on June 21. Some members of the media are suggesting that this church resignation may have a lot to do with the WELS controversial stance on Catholicism: that the Roman Catholic Pope is the Antichrist.
Appeals Court: TSA Violated Federal Law, But Scanners Stay
A Federal appeals court found today that, although the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) had clearly violated Federal law, the Court would not block them from using full-body scanners, called Advanced Imaging Technology (AIT), in airports.

Today, President Barack Obama gave another press briefing, in which he made what the White House called “Remarks on the Status of Efforts to find a Balanced Approach to Deficit Reduction.” He began with a brief statement, saying that there would be no talks today. He also expressed his concern about the Aug. 2 deadline being so close: “this should have been taken care of earlier,” and “we are obviously running out of time.”
