Carney: Gun Violence Solutions Not Simple

NEWTOWN, Conn., (UPI) –  Just as the issue of gun violence is complex, so too, are any solutions, White House press secretary Jay Carney said Monday.

At the White House, Carney said there is no single answer to the complex issue of gun violence.

“It’s a complex problem that will require a complex solution. No single piece of legislation, no single action will fully address the problem,” Carney said, repeating the gist of Obama’s comments on the matter. “So I don’t have a specific agenda to announce to you today. I would simply point you to what the president said last night about moving forward in coming weeks. And I would look for him to do that.”

Meanwhile, Sandy Hook Elementary School, the Newtown, Conn., school where 26 people died in a mass shooting Friday, will be closed indefinitely, officials said, as the grim task of burying the victims of Friday’s massacre was to begin Monday with funerals for two 6-year-old boys, Jack Pinto and Noah Pozner, CNN reported.

Lt. J. Paul Vance of the Connecticut State Police said faculty and staff from Sandy Hook — where 20 children and six adults were shot to death before the alleged shooter, Adam Lanza, killed himself — planned to meet at Newtown High School Monday to discuss how the district will move forward, The Wall Street Journal reported.

“It’s incomprehensible, the pain here,” Darla Henggeler told CNN. “You can’t imagine. We’re still in shock. I can’t let my heart go there because it’s so overwhelming. I think once it settles in, I think my heart will break.”

Repeatedly saying he had no specific policy outline, Carney said Obama supports reinstating the assault weapons ban that expired in 2004.

“I think that it’s important to remember that this is about our gun laws and enforcing them, but it’s also about a broader series of issues, including issues of mental health and education and — and the like,” Carney said.

“So the president’s position on the assault weapons ban has not changed. He still supports its re-enactment,” the spokesman said. “But, you know, you’ll hear from him, I think, as he said last night, in the coming weeks to — to speak more specifically about what he thinks we can do moving forward.”

In Newtown, all schools in the district were to resume classes Tuesday except for Sandy Hook Elementary School which remains a crime scene and has been seized under warrant, Vance said.

Authorities also seized the home where Lanza allegedly killed his mother, Nancy Lanza, before going to the school.

Vance said Lanza, 20, had no prior contact with police in Newtown before the shootings and authorities were examining every aspect of his past.

“We will go back to the date of birth,” Vance said. “We will answer every single question.”

Law enforcement officials were processing and analyzing evidence and have begun conducting witness interviews, the police official said.

Vance said two investigations have begun into people who made “threats or attempts to mislead” the investigation into the shooting.

Meanwhile, school buses brought students to Branchville Elementary School in Ridgefield, Conn., after police declared the school safe following a report of a man carrying what appeared to be a rifle along a road near the elementary school, The Ridgefield Press reported.

A modified lockdown at other schools in the area was lifted as well.

The Press said unconfirmed reports later indicated the man was going to work with an umbrella slung over his shoulder.

During a multifaith memorial service Sunday at Newtown High School, President Obama vowed to “use whatever power this office holds” to stop massacres like the one in the Connecticut community.

“No single law, no set of laws, can eliminate evil from the world — but that can’t be an excuse for inaction,” Obama said. “Surely, we can do better than this.”

This must be said…The Federal Government and the anti-gun advocates are a Guilty Accomplice in the School Shooting in Newtown Connecticut!

The bottom line is that these teachers and staff at the Sandy Hook Elementary School were incapable of keeping these children safe, and incapable of defending them. And one of the biggest reasons they were so incapable and unprepared to save the lives of the children entrusted to their care is because the anti-gun nuts and their fellow travelers in government insisted on disarming every adult in the vicinity, by threatening them with prison time – EXCEPT the gunmen, who don’t care about the law and thus were not disarmed. Laws against carrying weapons in schools don’t stop evil men with murderous intent. Such laws only disarm the law abiding and virtuous, who are now rendered incompetent to defend the precious children in their care.

It is obvious that in the immediacy of a criminal attack, it is the intended victims (or their immediate care-takers) who are there, in position to put a stop to the attack…”if they are capable”, and being capable means being armed, trained, willing, and able to use deadly force, right then, right there. Anything less leads to what we saw here.

Until the adults are allowed to actually act like adults, and defend themselves and their students, this kind of willful killing will continue to happen, and the federal government will in each case be a guilty party to the conspiracy by ensuring that the targets are disarmed.

Until this changes, you should refuse to give your children over to government schools lorded over by a Federal Government so callous and indifferent to their safety and lives.

Oath Keepers to Provide Teachers With Free Firearms and Self-Defense Training

Oath Keepers, a national association of over 20,000 military, police, and first responders, is offering free instruction in the use of firearms and other methods of self defense to all teachers and school staff in the United States. This initiative is in response to the recent tragic mass shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. The volunteer instructors will be drawn from the member rolls of Oath Keepers in each state. Those instructors will be paired up with any teachers and school staff in the same state who contact Oath Keepers and request instruction.

The organization pledges to keep their identity confidential, but will also offer group lessons or to come to the school to teach the staff on-site. Topics will include defensive use of firearms, use of blunt objects and improvised objects for self-defense, use of knives, use of pepper spray, empty-hand defensive tactics, and methods of disarming an attacker who is armed with guns or knives, as well as crime awareness and crisis minset training. the first responders within the organization are being asked to volunteer to teach emergency first aid for serious trauma, including gunshot and knife wounds.

Oath Keepers Founder, Stewart Rhodes, issued a statement:

Children deserve to be defended. And the teachers and staff who are responsible for children during the school day deserve to know how to defend them – effectively, decisively, and at the very outset of an attack. And they deserve a fighting chance to defend themselves as well. It is not enough to tell them to sit tight and wait for the police to arrive. All too often, by the time the police get there, it is too late.

Sadly, the Connecticut shooting is just another Gun-Free Zone “success story”.

Once again, the nation has witnessed another high-profile shooting in a “Gun-Free Zone”.

Earlier in the week, a masked gunman killed two people at the Clackamas mall in Oregon, before killing himself. According to local residents, the Clackamas Town Center has a “no guns” policy, even for those who are authorized to carry guns legally.

Earlier this year in Colorado, James Holmes specifically bypassed closer theaters — where guns were allowed — to target the particular theater in Aurora where guns are prohibited

Like Holmes, several shooters in recent years have targeted gun free zones where their potential victims were disarmed by law: Columbine High School (1999), Virginia Tech (2007), and even Fort Hood (2009).

However, several potential massacres have been cut short — some by average citizens, others by off-duty officers:

    * Armed citizens prevented several potential tragedies from occurring in 2012. Samuel Williams came to the rescue of several patrons utilizing an internet café in Ocala, Florida. And in Garden Grove, California, a 65-year old woman sent five burglars fleeing from a jewelry store. In both cases, security cameras captured the heroic efforts of armed citizens who sent the bad guys fleeing — even tripping over themselves, as they stormed out the doors.

    * Five years ago this month, Matthew Murray entered a large Colorado Springs church, armed with several weapons and a thousand rounds of ammunition. But a woman with a concealed carry permit critically wounded him, thus saving the lives of hundreds of people.

    * And at a Salt Lake City mall in 2007, an off-duty police officer brought a shooting rampage to an abrupt halt. “I was in a situation that I was carrying my gun,” the hero, Ken Hammond, told reporters.

In all the above cases, where citizens were able to stop evil, the good guys were carrying guns. There was no time to run to their cars. There was no time to run home.

The lesson is clear: good guys with guns save lives. And while bad guys may be evil, they are not stupid. They don’t typically target gun stores or police stations to perpetrate their crimes. No, they consciously select areas where their victims are disarmed by law.

It might been a “Gun free zone” but it wan’t an “Evil free zone”. You can find evil anywher, schools, churches, homes, in governments, you name it. Today, people don’t realize who Satan is and what he’s capable of. Instead of staying away from Satan, they play his games with him. Soon what is a fantasy becomes some people’s reality. Witness Newtown, Columbine, Longmont, Colorado and who knows where else. Why aren’t we hearing anything about EVIL? Does Satan have such a hold on people they don’t put Satan and his evil into the equation? He’s the root cause af all evil. The problem is, the only power that Satan has over man is the power of persuasion. He even tried it on Christ. Because we chose to listen to Satan, not God, we have the problems we have. Going after God fearing people’s rights only strengthens Satan and his legions power over people.

  • The Christian American

We don’t have a gun problem, we have an EVIL problem. Evil has pentrated the minds and hearts of to many Americans. This shooters brother defind him with the wearing in black, playing Satanic video games, Watching Satanic TV and movies. He was mimicking the Columbine shooters. We fantasize over Satans games and some of us make them become REALITIES. We’ve thrown God out, with the inevitable consequences, and layed out the red carpet for Satan, and are facing the consequences of that. Do even know good from evil? With our entertainment, I feel justified asking that question. Guns? we should repeal gun laws and now. God fearing moral Americans should not loose their ability to defend themselve. There were two types of government in modern history that denied the people the right to keep and bear arms. They were Nazism and Communism. THAT’S THE TYPE OF GOVERNMENT WE’RE LOOKING AT. The proponents of gun legislation are either grossly ignorant or have one those governmental sysytems in mind. You can put names and faces to them.

The American people are conditioned to reacting instead of acting with reason. It is imperative that you contact your representative your position on gun legislation and your vote is watching him or her. This must be done NOW. They will react and put America in the hands of tyrants. We didn’t do the shooting and we are not going to give up our rights for something someone esle did. Think about what’s in the balance if we don’t. Scared? I’m terrified.

The shooter in CT was heavily involved in the video games that basically just slaughter the characters with all types of weaponry where you can switch back and forth to various weapons. We have all the PlayStation games you can think of except those that portray this type of activity for the grandkids.Gun laws did have a limited success in CT in that the shooter went to a gun store a few days before the shooting but didn’t want to wait for the background check and waiting period. So he went to the next best source, his mother exercising her 2nd Amendment rights owning an assault rifle and some quality pistols. The mental status of the individual should have been enough of a signal to keep her guns locked but apparently she took her boys shooting for bonding purposes.I am for the gun rights of the land but this assault rifle with the ability of someone to pop off more than ten rounds without reloading makes me think twice about the issue. We may have to make some more restrictions just for the sake of the children or anyone else that may become a target of the psychos running around rampant in America.

    • The Christian American

The evil shooter used four hanguns, not an “assault’ rife. By the way, Assault rifles classed as machine guns with the government. They have a fully automatic capability. These are NOT ASSAULT RIFLE that are available to people. In this day and age there should be a five shot limit on rifles and a 7shot limit on handgun. In most state there’s a five shot limit to hunting rifles. Four many years police carried revolvers and they carry 6 shots. Even that is not going to curb evil. At best it it will give the target a chance to react.

      • jopa

The Christian; All the stories that I have read the shooter used a Bushmaster.223 assault rifle and one of the handguns to shoot himself.I believe the guv would classify a fully automatic as a machine gun and a semi automatic more in the assault rifle category.Six shots in any gun is more than enough. If you still didn’t achieve your objective with that amount of firepower you shouldn’t have a gun.

      • JeffH

jopa, you don’t have a clue about “assault weapons”…other than what you hear. The term “assault rifle” is a political a propaganda term used by the anti-gun extremists to strike “fear” into those that don’t know the differences in rifles. A Bushmaster is not an assault rifle.

The term assault rifle is a translation of the German word Sturmgewehr (literally “storm rifle”, as in “to storm a position”). The name was coined by Adolf Hitler.

An assault rifle is a select-fire (either fully automatic or burst capable) rifle that uses an intermediate cartridge and a detachable magazine.

Carney, horse’s rump that he is, always uses quite a few words to express little or nothing. What he won’t admit is that he and his ilk always have ‘solutions’ to complex issues. However, every issue comes laced with an agenda. His bunkies are already
gearing up for another 2nd Amendment ruckus.
Carney, if you want to see what’s wrong with pc anti-weapon results, move to the U K or Australia. As a last resort, move to North Korea. Loser.

  • jopa

sc;You appear to be the loser in this matter and Carney the winner.Even the NRA may be fed up with what’s going on in America and remaining silent on the subject so far.

The National Rifle Association has put out a statement saying it is “prepared to offer meaningful contributions” to prevent more violence like that which occurred in Newtown, Conn., last week. The organization said it will hold a press conference in Washington, D.C. on Friday.

“The National Rifle Association of America is made up of four million moms and dads, sons and daughters – and we were shocked, saddened and heartbroken by the news of the horrific and senseless murders in Newtown.

“Out of respect for the families, and as a matter of common decency, we have given time for mourning, prayer and a full investigation of the facts before commenting.

“The NRA is prepared to offer meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again.

“The NRA is planning to hold a major news conference in the Washington, DC area on Friday, December 21.

“Details will be released to the media at the appropriate time.”
