The fatal mauling took place Sunday evening on the Mosquito First Nation south of North Battleford, Saskatchewan, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said the unidentified child encountered the dogs when she wandered into a yard. Police and emergency services were called shortly before 7 p.m. local time and she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at a North Battleford hospital, the CBC said.

The dogs’ owner killed them shortly after the attack, the news network said.
