Canada Father Charged With Slashing Infant

CALGARY, British Columbia, Aug. 15 (UPI) — An 11-month-old Canadian boy is recovering after his father allegedly slashed him repeatedly with a knife, authorities say.

The 32-year-old Calgary man was charged with attempted murder Sunday and is expected to make a court appearance Monday, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.

Police arrested the unidentified man after he called 911 about 4:15 a.m. Saturday and officers found the wounded child in the kitchen.

The baby had several cuts on his neck and torso. He initially was listed in critical condition but was later upgraded to stable at Calgary’s Children’s Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery, the CBC said.

Calgary police Staff Sgt. Kelly Campbell said the child’s mother was not home when the attack took place.

“She is understandably upset about what happened to her child,” Campbell said.
