Bloomberg Helping Joe Biden On Gun Control

NEW YORK, (UPI) –  New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, an outspoken gun-control advocate, confirmed he is advising Vice President Joe Biden’s team seeking to curb U.S. gun violence.

“What we’ve got to do first is try to do everything we can to help Joe Biden,” Bloomberg said in a news conference in New York. “We sent some of the people down to Washington, and we had some people on the phone to give Joe Biden our ideas.”

Bloomberg, who plans an advertising campaign for stricter gun-control laws featuring Hollywood stars, told reporters he wanted to see criminal background checks on all gun sales, not just at gun dealers.

He said he also sought better enforcement of existing checks.

“The whole thing takes about 90 seconds,” CNN quoted Bloomberg as saying Monday. “You type in the name, you hit the ‘Go’ button and bang, back it comes and says ‘yes’ or ‘no.’

“Costs next to nothing,” he said. “It would be very easy for private transactions.”

Bloomberg, a political independent who vows to spend millions of dollars over the next two years to aid political candidates willing to oppose the gun lobby, called for the creation of a federal assault weapons ban similar to the Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act passed by Congress Sept. 13, 1994.

That law expired 10 years later.

Bloomberg said Biden was a leading senator in the 1994 law’s creation.

“I think all of us know that Joe Biden is not a shrinking violet, particularly when it comes to crime and the gun problem in this country and the number of murders,” Bloomberg said.

President Barack Obama appointed Biden Dec. 19 to lead an effort that would result in recommendations to prevent another mass shooting like the Dec. 14 Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings in Newtown, Conn., which left 20 children and six adult staff members dead and two others wounded.

Obama gave the group a deadline of “no later than January” to propose new laws and actions “that I then intend to push without delay.”

The Washington Post reported Sunday the White House was working on a far broader and more inclusive approach to curbing gun violence than reinstating the 1994 ban on assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition.

The working group is considering measures that would require universal background checks for firearm buyers, track the movement and sale of weapons through a national database, toughen mental health checks and increase penalties for carrying guns near schools or giving them to minors, the newspaper said, citing multiple people involved in the discussions.

To promote such changes, the White House is considering ways of working around the National Rifle Association that one source told the Post could include seeking support from Walmart and other gun retailers for measures that would benefit their businesses.

The NRA is lobbying for a plan that would equip every school with an armed guard.

LUVERNE, AL –( I don’t know about you, but I for one am sick to my stomach of having to repeat the same facts and statistics over and over again.

For years, decades even, we have beaten the drum and recited the same litany.

Any man willing to sit calmly and listen to the facts, to history, will understand that civilian disarmament has always led to the abuse of the populace, whether by vicious criminals or an authoritarian government.

Those Who Should Know Better – This article is not being penned for the benefit of Sarah Brady, Herr Bloomberg, or any of the useful idiots and naked hypocrites in Hollywood. This text is for the supposed choir, those who should know better but seem not to.

During the last big offensive on civil liberty involving firearms, the 1994 (it was a) Crime Bill, we lost, not because the opposition had a more convincing argument, but because of the “reasonable” and the compromisers on our side. Self-appointed traditionalists, sportsmen, and hunters saw the gun ban as someone else’s problem. They looked at it and reasoned that they could still enjoy their favored recreation or play their game of choice.

It has been better than fifteen years, but I can still remember standing in my favorite gun shop when one of the regulars pointed to a black rifle and said, “Well, I can see banning certain kinds of guns.” Out of respect for the owner of the shop I secured my mouth and simply left feeling disgusted. Somehow I doubt I would have that level of self-control today.

More recently I had a skeet shooter attempt to explain the reason the local outdoor range specifically forbid concealed carry on the club property. During the discourse he said to me “Have you seen those concealed carry people? They scare me.” All the while he was balancing the muzzle of his shotgun on his foot. I didn’t exercise the previous restraint and congratulated him for saying the stupidest thing I had heard all week.

Should you count yourself among the reasonable hunters, traditionalists, or sportsmen today and believe you will be spared any inconvenience from the upcoming assault on civil liberty you are willfully naïve. If you think it’s alright for the government to confiscate your neighbor’s AR-15 as long as you get to keep your Remington 700 you are a selfish and vile creature and I have no respect for you.

Games are not Liberty – Ladies and Gentlemen, the Second Amendment enumerated in the Bill of Rights to the United States Constitution has nothing to do with hunting, collecting, or playing shooting games. Games are not a substitute for liberty. In the vaunted European nations who still claim that their citizens can “own guns”, the only guns they can claim ownership to are those suitable for play, not for fighting. Their governments have also seen to it that playing with firearms is a rich man’s game. Licenses, fees, club memberships, storage costs, and various taxes have taken even play guns out of the hands of the common man.

    Hurt Feelings?
If this short bit of text hurts your feeling or strikes a nerve, tough. It’s time to either man up and grow a pair or just admit you are not really a son of liberty but a comfortable slave seeking permission from the king to play your favorite game. And, to the moderate man, who feels that I may have erred for calling out the recreant, it is exactly that moderation and compromise that has brought us to the precarious position we are in right now.

Student of the Gun ~ Watch the Show – I am reminded of the immortal words of Dalton in the venerate tale of the Roadhouse. “I want you to be nice until it’s time not to be nice.”Ladies and gentlemen, the time has come not to be nice.

George Washington warned us in his Farewell Address about a time in America’s future when we might be tempted to discard the pillars of civility:

“Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim the tribute of patriotism who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness, these firmest props of the duties of men and citizens. The mere politician, equally with the pious man, ought to respect and to cherish them.”

When Washington was cornered by the British and faced what appeared to be impending doom, he stayed the course but almost always revamped his strategies.

What Washington wrote to the Continental Army before the Battle of Long Island should be inscribed on every patriot’s wall now, given November’s defeat:

“The time is now near at hand which must probably determine, whether Americans are to be, Freemen, or Slaves; whether they are to have any property they can call their own; whether their Houses, and Farms, are to be pillaged and destroyed. … The fate of unborn Millions will now depend, under God, on the Courage and Conduct of this army. … We have therefore to resolve to conquer or die.”

The American left has become the greatest purveyor of bullying during the last half-century. That’s the dirty little secret: buried beneath all of the left’s supposed hatred for bullying is a passionate love for bullying—the use of power to force those who disagree to shut up, back down, or face crushing consequences up to and including loss of reputation, career destruction, and even death.

In order to accomplish their bullying tactics, however, the left has to portray itself as the defender of victimized groups. Those who oppose their political agenda are then portrayed as oppressors of those victimized groups, morally deficient folks who deserve to be run out of town on a rail. The agenda supposedly starts with anti-bullying. It ends with bullying the hell out of everyone on the other side of the aisle.

The left’s goal is to shut down the political debate by decrying their opponents as victimizers. They label their opponents racist, sexist, bigoted, homophobic, benighted, backwards bitter clingers. They liken them to Nazis, KKK members, terrorists. Then they cast them out like lepers from the political debate. Because who would bother debating a Nazi, or a KKK member, or a terrorist?

Mayor Bloomberg: No More Police Until Americans Give Up Their Guns – July, 2012

Never one to pass on a chance to belittle the right to keep and bear arms, Mayor Michael Bloomberg was a guest on Piers Morgan’s television show last night, where he called on police officers around the country to go on strike until more gun control is implemented.

Bloomberg to Brooklyn: National Guard Not Allowed with Guns – Nov. 2012

Anti-Second Amendment New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg refused to allow the National Guard into Brooklyn to help with disaster relief and prevent looting because national guardsmen would have had guns.

“NYPD is the only people we want on the street with guns,” Bloomberg said.

Bloomberg Demands Obama Stop Avoiding Gun Control Issue July 2012

NRA CEO Wayne La Pierre told reporters: “How have our nation’s priorities gotten so far out of order? Think about it. We care about our money, so we protect our banks with armed guards. American airports, office buildings, power plants, courthouses–even sports stadiums–are all protected by armed security. We care about the President, so we protect him with armed Secret Service agents. Members of Congress work in offices surrounded by armed Capitol Police officers.

Yet when it comes to the most beloved, innocent and vulnerable members of the American family–our children–we as a society leave them utterly defenseless, and the monsters and predators of this world know it and exploit it. That must change now!”

*New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg called the press conference “shameful” and that it was an “evasion of the crisis facing our country. Instead of offering solutions to a problem they have helped create, they offered a paranoid, dystopian vision of a more dangerous and violent America where everyone is armed and no place is safe. Leadership is about taking responsibility, especially in times of crisis.”

*New York’s Governor Andrew Cuomo chimed in saying, “[Gun]Confiscation could be an option. Mandatory sale to the state could be an option. Permitting could be an option–keep your gun but permit it.”

politicians like Mayor Bloomberg walk the streets of New York with armed security. According to a 2009 CBS News piece, Bloomberg, like his predecessors, is protected around the clock, “even when he’s not working.”

The mayor of the nation’s largest city is protected around the clock, even when he’s not working. He’s trailed on the golf course, at the theater, while visiting relatives for Thanksgiving dinner–with taxpayers footing the bill.

The report goes further into how many armed individuals usually protect Mayor Bloomberg:

Mayors typically are protected by a five- or six-person team of plainclothes detectives, including one who often goes ahead to secure the destination. There are generally three teams that rotate for the 24-hour job.

Bodyguards generally have stayed overnight with the mayor in Gracie Mansion, the city’s official residence. Bloomberg, a billionaire, has opted to stay in his own town house on a prime block of East 79th Street, where there is now a police booth.

Protection is available for a mayor’s family members, but the Police Department makes those decisions based on the individuals and any perceived threat against them.

When mayors travel, the costs of the security team are paid by the city. Bloomberg has taken the unusual step of covering their expenses when he takes personal trips.

One member of the mayor’s security detail, it should be noted, was charged for shooting his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend two years ago.

When Governor Cuomo’s security detail is not hitting pedestrians with their vehicles, he also receives 24-7 armed protection from New York State Troopers.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, who blasted the NRA on Friday, said:

“It’s outrageous and unsettling that the NRA would choose to address gun violence not by taking assault weapons off our streets, but by adding more guns to our schools. That is not the right answer for our society, our schools and most importantly our children. People across this country, from small towns to big cities, are united and ready to pass common-sense gun control legislation. The time has come for the NRA to get on board or get out of the way.”

Yet Chicago’s CBS reported in June 2011 that city taxpayers cough up $3 million a year for uniformed police to protect its local politicians while innocent civilians downtown were facing gun violence daily.

Eleven Chicago cops sued the city over the summer for being demoted off of Emanuel’s security team only to be replaced by Emanuel’s security from his campaign:

The color of your skin is your sin,” the police commander told one of the plaintiffs when asked why he was being demoted and the black officers were not, according to the suit.

The suit, filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Illinois, contains explosive accusations that the officers had their civil rights violated after Emanuel took office last year.

The officers charge that shortly after Emanuel was elected in February 2011, the city government began to bring people associated with the Emanuel campaign on board–both those who volunteered on Emanuel’s security detail during the campaign and others who were “politically involved.”

Does anybody see a pattern here?

•Boston Mayor Menino: Biden ‘Guaranteed’ Massive Gun Control By February!

Democrat Mayor Thomas Menino of Boston says that Vice President Joe Biden “guaranteed” him that by the end of January, President Obama would put a vast gun control scheme on the table. Said Menino, “He said, ‘Tommy, I guarantee you, we’ll get it done by the end of January.’ They’re going to get it done.”

Menino co-chairs the Mayors Against Illegal Guns group along with nanny state Mayor Michael Bloomberg of New York. He says that Obama has “no excuse not to pass strong legislation,” and that the National Rifle Association should be ignored. “It’s time to get this moving and moving quickly.”

Menino’s overbearing big government tendencies have reared their ugly head before. Back in August, Menino tried to bar Chick-Fil-A from Boston after the head of the restaurant chain said that he opposed same-sex marriage.

The implication: if you don’t agree with Menino, Obama, Biden, and Bloomberg, you don’t honor those we lost. This sort of emotional blackmail has dominated our politics for far too long. But look for the thuggishness of the left to escalate in Obama’s second term.
