Bloodletting May Become Part Of Modern Healthcare

Bloodletting May Become Part Of Modern Healthcare

Bloodletting conjures images of medieval doctors in long robes applying leeches or small cuts to poor sick souls who likely wouldn’t survive the ancient procedure. Appearing to have little or no effect on most illness, the practice was abandoned in the 19th century. But new research in the BioMed Central’s open access journal BMC Medicine just might help bring it back.

The research demonstrated that blood donation has real benefits for obese people with metabolic syndrome. In just two sessions of bloodletting, blood pressure improved, as did markers of cardiovascular disease.

Patients with metabolic syndrome suffer from a variety of illnesses, including insulin resistance, hypertension and an increased risk of diabetes. Because the accumulation of iron in the body is associated with hypertension and diabetes, researchers from Berlin and University of Duisburg-Essen created two groups, one of which underwent iron reduction by phlebotomy — or drawing of blood.

Prof Andreas Michalsen from the Charité-University Medical Centre, Berlin, who led this research explained: “Consecutive reduction in iron stores was able to improve markers of cardiovascular risk and glycemic control. Consequently blood donation may prevent not just diabetes but also cardiovascular disease for the obese. Obviously this treatment will not be suitable for people with anemia however for those eligible for treatment blood donation may prevent escalation of their condition.”

BLOOD DONATIONS ARE A “PET-PEEVE” OF MINE. MALE HOMOSEXUALS CAN NOT DONATE. GOVERNMENTAL POLICY NEEDS TO CHANGE. THERE IS NO MALE HOMOSEXUAL ALIVE WHO HAS NOT HAD SEX SINCE 1976. I GUARANTEE, IF SOME PEOPLE WERE STRANDED IN AN ISOLATED AREA AND SOMEONE NEEDED BLOOD, THAT PERSON WOULD TAKE A CHANCE ON LIFE – REGARDLESS, OF THE SEXUALITY OF THE PERSON WHO “CAME TO THE RESCUE.”

You think they should take the risk of spreading AIDS when there is a healthy alternative? Good thinking there….

The article is advocating bloodletting, which means draining of blood. Still most blood donation centers take great precautions in avoiding HIV and other blood borne illnesses. There might be something to this, I’ve pondered this before. My ex-Father in law always gives blood every month without fail, he done this his whole life. He’s not a fitness nut by any means although he usually gets regular exercise from playing golf but his eating habits are awful. He’s about 85 years old and is in good health, no sicknesses or injuries and still golfs 18 holes several times a week. I think his donating blood helps his health by draining some old blood out and making new blood for replacement. Like changing oil. Newer blood has better properties than old blood. I think it’s beneficial to replace your blood a little at a time. This is the first article I’ve seen supporting my thoughts about this. It might be stupid but it makes sense to me.

The Red Cross has an ongoing consideration when it comes to gay men donating. I suspect that the ban will be lifted within the next couple of years.

It isn’t just the physical risk (minimal now) of HIV transmition, but the perseption by the public that they have to consider. Sometimes the public is swayed by supersticion and fear more than common sense. It’s sad, but true.

Hang in there. Smart folks already know the ban is wrong.

        “Robert Smith,”

SINCE MOST NEGRO-MALE HOMOSEXUALS DO NOT WEAR CONDOMS, I DO NOT THINK THE BAN WILL BE LIFTED SOON.

IN MEMPHIS, MANY NEGROES EARN ABOUT SIXTY-FIVE DOLLARS PER WEEK DONATING PLASMA AND BLOOD – WHICH PAYS THE WEEKLY RENT IN A ROOMING HOUSE. SOME OF THESE PEOPLE ARE MALE HOMOSEXUALS WHO LIED DURING THE SCREENING PROCESS BECAUSE THEY NEEDED THE MONEY. SO, IF TESTING OF THIS BLOOD INDICATED NO PROBLEM, THEN THE 1976 SEX “CUT-OFF” IS SILLY.

I don’t know of anyone who doesn’t already have aides that would deliberately risk getting it by accepting infected blood and the consequences of death by aides. It would be tatamont to unprotected sex with a known HIV positive person. I for one think when HIV first was detected all those who were carrying the virus or tested positive should have been quarantined on unused army bases to help prevent its spread as that is they way highly contagious diseases have been dealt with through the ages to prevent its spread and it has worked. In stead it was left in the general population and now affects somewhere over 25% of the world including new borns who get it through the birth canal. Now you want it let loose in the blood supply so it can infect more unsuspecting people. That is murder and certainly NOT justified under any circumstances.

        “Norma Nicholson,”

A QUARANTINE OF THE CIRCA 1981 HIV/AIDS CARRIERS WOULD HAVE CREATED Bill of Rights- violations. PEOPLE DO HAVE THE RIGHT OF ASSEMBLY AND FREEDOM FROM UNLAWFUL SEARCH. IT IS THESE RIGHTS IN WHICH gay-rights activists HAVE “HANGED THEIR HAT ON” IN REFERENCE TO COURT CASES WHICH LEGALIZED SODOMY AND SAME-SEX MARRIAGE.

      CAH –
So, you think the homo lifestyle is in continuity with any other normal, natural, healthful life-style and deserves equal consideration with all the other behaviors associated with NORMAL HUMANS? Sorry! Nupe. Nope. Huh-ungh, ‘Tain’t so.
There are substances in human semen that when injected into any other orifice than a healthy human female reproductive tract produce horrendous consequences – when done as if it were something to be celebrated. Those substances, discharged into either end of the human alimentary system, gain easy access through the mucous membranes to circulatory elements and thence to the brain in short order – especially if the colon is the mode of entry. The internal and external venous plexus of the spine pumps all kinds of chemicals small enough to migrate through mucous membranes via this plexus to the brain in seconds.
Once they arrive in the brain they powerfully affect both the normal production and release of several neurotransmitters which govern many brain control systems. The effect last for 54 hours or more. Repetition of the behavior within that time frame extends the chronicity.
The delivery of these chemicals, those that aren’t taken up in brain tissues, potentially have similarly chronic effects on many muscarinic acetylcholine receptive tissues in peripheral sites.
Some of these sites are appropriate receptors on hunter-killer T-cells and other macrophages, causing them to become inactive and unresponsive to signals they would normally seek and destroy. In other words the seminal chemicals eradicate the front line immune system protections for up to 54 hours. Immune deficiency, anyone?
They also produce cognitive defects and a specific digestive system motility defect which requires bowel flushing when normality recurs. Bowel flushing produces deficiencies of electrolytes and what is called “zinc enteropathy” – profound zinc deficiencies after frequent, repetitive homo (whatever it is it ain’t sex) dysfunctional activities.
Endorphins, enkephalins and B-endorphins and other substances. The ejaculate is great for reproduction and male female recreation – only.

Want to challenge me? You get the finances together, we’ll work together (Freedom of Information Rules) to devise studies…literature and in vivo. Either way the results become “expert witness” material for actionable judicial proceedings. You can’t win. There are absolutes in organic chemistry.

      • Mike in MI

OOPS, I made some very specific mistakes, sorry. Should have been: B-endorphins, enkephalins and prostaglandin E-2 as constituents of human semen chemistry related to their effects on human central nervous system, peripheral nervous system and immune system components when they are given access to human physiology via tissues other than the human female reproductive tract, when frequently injected by homosexual behavior.
You, not I, must make provision for liability regarding effects on any cohort members involved.

        “Mike in MI,”

FIRST, SIR, I THOUGHT I WOULD NEVER HEAR FROM YOU AGAIN. I KNOW YOU AND I HAVE DIFFERENT VALUES. I DEEPLY REGRET YOU AND I HAVE NOT HAD A DISCUSSION SINCE AUGUST. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR TAKING TIME TO RESPOND TO ME DIRECTLY. IT MEANS AN ENORMOUSLY GREAT DEAL TO ME.

“Mike in MI,” SIR, YOUR VIEW ON HOMOSEXUALITY IS YOUR BUSINESS. I DO NOT WANT TO OPPOSE YOU. I HOPE A TIME MAY COME WHEN YOU CAN VIEW ME IN A FRIENDLY MANNER – AGAIN.

        WITH GREAT SINCERITY,
        CHRISTOPHER ALLEN HORTON

Oh yes, bloodletting was popular several hundred years ago. Why do you think President George Washington died? He had his barber/surgeon let the evil spirits out of his body and died from blood loss. Just like the witchdoctor said, let me take enough blood out of your body and we can cook for dinner.

I’d opt for bloodless surgery …or stockpiling my own blood prior to elective surgery….
or micro-surgery or robotic surgical techniques that are minimally invasive…
but I’ll ask about donating the next time I go in….although I swear it’s the pretty nurses
    that raise my blood pressure

Sarah Palins family doctor is a witch doctor, I wonder if he was into that bloodletting since she seemed rather light headed most of the time.At first when I heard about this I thought perhaps she didn’t know which doctor to go to until I saw the video on You Tube of her with the witch doctor.doing the ting tang wella wella bing bang thing.Sure do miss her, she was so great for comedy.

It appears to me this comment is in violation of the comments policy. Why is it still allowed on this page?

There is a lot of validity in having periodic phlebotomies. Iron storage causes many problems. It is a therapy that is too cheap to be promoted, because drug pushing is what makes our medical community go round

We will see alot more of this with the new “Obama Care” health care. This health care plan is nothing but a tax on the american people.
