Biden Says Tea Party Is Not Racist

Vice President Joe Biden said on Sunday that neither he nor the administration believe the Tea Party to be an inherently racist group, although he does feel that certain members of the conservative organization have made some regrettable comments that mar the burgeoning movement’s reputation.
"I don’t believe—the president doesn’t believe—that the Tea Party is a racist organization," Biden said on ABC’s This Week. "Very conservative, very different views on government… but it is not a racist organization."
The vice president’s comments come just a few days after the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) voted to issue a resolution to "repudiate the racist elements and activities" within the Tea Party, The Associated Press (AP) reports.
Meanwhile, The National Tea Party Federation recently expelled a subsidiary organization after one of its members posted a blog deemed to be racist.
Mark Williams, a conservative commentator and one of the faces of the Tea Party Express, wrote a satirical blog last week from voices of the "Colored People" to President Lincoln, allegedly praising slavery.
Federation spokesman David Webb called the post "clearly offensive," and expelled the Tea Party Express after it refused to remove Williams from its organization.
