Biden Says Lilly Ledbetter Act Is Not A Big Deal

Biden Says Lilly Ledbetter Act Is Not A Big Deal
UPI

Vice President Joe Biden is at it again. During a stop in Florida on Oct. 20, the Vice President said the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act is “not a big deal.”

During the town hall debate, President Barack Obama cited the signing of the act as proof that Democrats have helped women receive equal pay. Biden contradicted that claim.

Biden was trying to convince voters that Republicans are not sensitive to women’s issues. Biden said that Republicans didn’t support the act and, after all, the act doesn’t even do much for equal pay. According to Biden, that proves how “out of touch” Republicans are; they won’t even sign an act which is “not a big deal.”

While trying to paint the Republican Party as the party of chauvinists, Biden said:

All the Lilly Ledbetter said was if a woman finds out she’s been treated and treated wrongly, cheated in terms of her salary and benefits at work, that she’s able to sue from the moment she finds out. That’s all it said. Because they were locked out, they said if you didn’t learn within two years you were being cheated then you’re out of luck. But we changed the law. It’s not a big — it’s a big deal for women, but it’s not a big deal in terms of equal pay.

Standard Operating Procedure for Biden: Open mouth. Insert foot.

    • Average Joe

      I thought the SOP for Biden was …open mouth…switch feet…. ;)

  • Warrior

Now that the “lilly law” has been enacted, is the “war on women” now over? Yes? Good, what the next war to be waged? FORWARD!

    • Chester

Might ask your friends Romney and Ryan if the “War on Women” is over, or if they still plan on owning every woman’s body in the US so she has no control over whether or not she gets pregnant, or if she gets pregnant, whether or not she is forced to carry the child until natural delivery or C section relieves her of it. Actually, I am looking forward to the day someone decides C sections are not necessary to save a woman’s life, just, maybe, the baby’s. When that happens, there WILL be a revolt, as a good many of the children walking around now were born via C section.

Excuse me Chester [personal insult removed] – A woman has no control over whether or not she gets pregnant??? One of the stupidest comments I’ve read all morning. A woman does have control. All she needs to do is not spread her legs. Very simple and it doesn’t cost me or anyone else a single penny.

      • Steve E

Chester, did your parents ever teach you about the birds and the bees?

      • ChuckS

I heard a young gal being questioned –
Question: Do you think the government should be in the bedroom?
        Answer: No, not even close
Q: so then should the government pay for contraception?
        A: er, ah, umm

  • ann

Women should have equal pay for the same job men hold, bar-none. And in most professions women should be paid more than minimum wage, in what is considered low paying jobs; as a large population of woman are supporting children on their own. And taking care of aging parents.

    • http://Yahoo.com Bill

Caring for children on their own – I don’t care, that seems to be their personal choice. Their children or aged parents are not up to me to support. Play the victim somewhere else.

    • Steve E

This is proof on how incompetent we all have become. People have been taking care of children and the elderly all through history without any government intervention. We have gotten so weak minded that we now say we have to have government do it for us. How sad we have become.

The government should not have taken authority unto itself to tell business owners what they should pay people. Men or women demanding more did not give them special rights.
No matter what is said to the contrary the government owns all businesses.

    • Nadzieja Batki

Why are you not married to the man who you had kids with? That is one of the perks of men to support their own family.
Making yourself a victim and an obnoxious and demanding one at that does not obligate the rest of the population to support your follies because you have your own bully boys to extort money by taxation.

    • DaveH

Ann says — “Women should have equal pay for the same job men hold, bar-none. And in most professions women should be paid more than minimum wage, in what is considered low paying jobs”.
Who decides what is equal, Ann? You? A panel of biased people like you? If you think you’re underpaid, find a new job, or create your own if you can manage to jump over the very large Government hurdles which have been enabled by people like you.
It is the Employer’s money, not yours. If you want their money, you must prove to them that your hiring and pay rate are beneficial for them. Nobody tells you how to spend your money, Ann, so why do you assume the right to tell potential employers how to spend theirs?
Putting morality aside (since I know it falls on deaf ears with most Liberal Progressives), minimum wage laws don’t work. They just deprive people who might have willingly taken a lower-paying job from getting a job. How about letting them decide if they want to work or not? In other words, minimum wage laws increase unemployment. If an employer thinks an employee will only produce $7/hour worth of profit, why would they want to hire somebody who costs them $8/hour?
Do you think they’re in business to lose money, Ann?

Those propagandized people who would like to break free should read Chapter 7 “The Morality of Capitalism” (page 295):

      • ChuckS

IO read 40 years ago that minimum wage laws generally cause higher unemployment, especially among teenagers, especially among black people, and ESPECIALLY among black teenagers. I think black teenagers have somewhere around 50% unemployment now after the minimum wage was increased in 2007, shortly after the democrats took over congress. Now that inner city schools run by liberals do such a poor job of educating black kids, it’s probably harder than ever for them to get jobs.

DaveH, so complex for ann and chester, and it is oh so simple.

  • rendarsmith

Another biased piece of legislature by Crazy Joe, just like the VAWA, and we’ve seen what havoc that has brought (immigration fraud, false accusations running rampant, mandatory arrests). These laws should be gender neutral! Now we’re going to have women crying sexism every time they’re not hired for whatever reason.

This guy has serious mental issues stemming from his disfunctional childhood. He needs serious therapy….

Is Joe Biden for real or is he really just a clown? Is there a treatment for his condition? Can something be done for the fellow?

    • The GLB

Peter, yes he is for real, and that is exactly why his name does not appear on any of the Obama bumper stickers or yard signs.

At first I thought that Obama was dumping Biden, but the DNC came and went and Biden was still there, so I thought, “Obama is such a narcissist that he cannot stand sharing the marquis.” Now I think that Obama does NOT want to remind people that Biden is on the ticket, or I could be completely off-base and it all boils down to the fact that Biden is an insurance policy against impeachment, etc.

  • http://Yahoo.com Bill

When people work as hard as I do and are as good as I am at my job, give them equal pay. If I don’t want to work as hard as the next guy doing the same job, why should it be equal – that individual should get more. Everyone equal – that’s nothing but political BS. In this country, you can make what ever you desire. You can have whatever type of life you desire. But, it should be up to you to earn it, not up to me to just give it to you.

      Who is John Galt?

      • TIME

        Dear Steve,

Is this a real question or are you just playing games?

        Peace and Love

      • Steve E

TIME, Go see the movie Atlas Shrugged, now playing in theaters. You will then see that the question; “Who is John Galt?” applies to what Bill stated. It’s a great movie everyone should see.

      • TIME

        Dear Steve,

I have the book, and have had it for years. I was just asking if you were serious. I would have explained it.
If they now have a Movie ~~ then everyone on this sight should go and see it.
        Or read the book.

Peace and Love be with you.

      • ChuckS

Part 1 of the Atlas Shrugged movie came out several months ago. Part 2 just came out. I don’t know if that’s the end.

      • Steve E

Part 2 left you hanging, There will be a part 3 sometime in the future.

  • pete0097

People have been doing this for years. It is called talking to your peers. As an engineer, I have discovered that the only way to get a raise is to either talk to your peers and find out who is underpaid OR go interview with another company and get an offer. If your present company is paying less you can either move on or tell them about it and they will either match or say “good luck” I have had both with great success. WOmen just need to interact with each other and see the possibility of moving on as a good thing.

    • TIME

      Dera People,

Do some digging and you will find that old Honest Joe is about to make around $750 Million off the US tax payers backs,

How you ask? Look into his brother Jim’s great idea for building homes in Iraq.

      Peace and Love
