Bear Kills 2 In Russia

PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, Russia, Aug. 13 (UPI) — A brown bear killed two people in Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula, officials say.

The victims, a man and a woman, were resting near the Paratunka River at the Serebryany Spring in the Yelizovo district with a group of people Saturday when they were attacked, ITAR-Tass reported.

The bear came out of the forest and attacked the people for unknown reasons.

Investigators were trying to find and kill the bear.

Adult male brown bears can weigh up to 1,540 pounds and are the biggest animals on the peninsula. Bear attacks are reported almost every year in the area.
