WASHINGTON (UPI) — Former first lady Barbara Bush said, in an interview, she hopes her son Jeb Bush will not run for U.S. President.
Speaking on a program to be broadcast by C-SPAN Monday, one of a series of programs on first ladies, the 88-year-old noted, “If we can’t find more than two or three families to run for high office, that’s silly because there are great governors and great eligible people to run … the Kennedys, Clintons, Bushes, there are just more families than that.”
Mentioning her son Jeb, 60, a former Florida Governor, she added, “Jeb is the most qualified person to run for president but I hope he won’t, because I think he’ll get all my enemies, all his brother’s,” a reference to former President George W. Bush. “I refuse to accept that this great country isn’t raising other wonderful people.”
