First Lady’s Trip To Spain Cost Taxpayers $467,585

Following the first lady’s lavish getaway to Spain in 2010, the White House assured American citizens that the Obamas would pay for any personal expenses. But Judicial Watch, a public interest group that investigates government corruption, has announced that government documents suggest it was on taxpayers’ dime — to the tune of $467,585.

U.S Airport records indicate that the cost of flying Michelle Obama round-trip to Spain was $199,323.75. Lodging the flight crew cost $10,290.60, car rental cost $2,633.50 and food cost $876.30 (which included $57.68 for maple syrup and pancake mix).

In addition, the trip cost the Secret Service $254,461.20.

The hefty bill also included lodging for a dog.

Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said:

The American people can ill afford to keep sending the First Family on vacations around the globe. There needs to be greater sensitivity to the costs borne by taxpayers for these personal trips. It is hypocritical for President Obama to fire GSA officials for wasteful conference spending, while his family went on a luxury vacation in the Costa del Sol Spain that cost taxpayers nearly half a million dollars. No wonder it took two years and a lawsuit to get these documents out of the Obama administration.

Group Wants The Word ‘Illegal’ To Be Illegal

A public education campaign wants the word “illegal” to be filed away under the annals of hate speech. With the rally cry “No Human Being Is Illegal,” Drop the I-Word is hoping that citizens and immigrants alike will be more accepting of each other.

The campaign believes: “‘Illegals’ is a racially charged slur used to dehumanize and discriminate against immigrants and people of color regardless of migratory status. The i-word is shorthand for ‘illegal alien,’ ‘illegal immigrant’ and other harmful terms.”

The campaign states: “We call on media outlets and elected officials to uphold reason, due process and responsible speech by dropping the i-word.”

The site contains pictures and stories from people of all nationalities. One representative, identified as Sonia, prefers to be called “undocumented.” Her argument for the abolition of the word “illegal” includes this:

Many times, when I am asked who I am, I respond with “I am undocumented.” I haven’t always identified as undocumented. …No one comes to this country because they want to be exploited, and treated less than human. No one migrates to this country and wants to identify as “illegal”. …I always knew that I was undocumented, but I trusted there was a fair system that would fix that up. …I stand with the undocumented youth across the states because we are beautiful amazing leaders.  …They and I are not “illegals”. I am undocumented, unafraid and unapologetic.

Another Reporter Edits Zimmerman Call

Miami’s NBC6 has fired a reporter for making the same edit to the George Zimmerman 911 call that the Today show made.

Jeff Burnside, a 13-year veteran, has been released. The Miami station has issued an apology.

The recording, “This guy looks like he’s up to no good. He looks black,” omitted that the operator had asked Zimmerman if the person was “black, white, or Hispanic?”

The engineered clip was used to convince viewers that Zimmerman committed a racially motivated, cold-blooded murder.

Politicians Avoiding Questions Pertaining To Policy

I still remember the yellow tint of the dodgeball that crushed my face in seventh grade. Had I been more like a Senate or House candidate, I would have been able to avoid the pugnacious projectile altogether.

Vacillating on political issues gives opponents fodder for campaigns. Attack ads are filled with clips of the same person espousing different viewpoints.

Perhaps candidates for the Senate and House are catching on. If you refuse to let people know your plans and ideas by dodging the issues, then your political enemy can never say you contradicted yourself. On the other hand, if you refuse to reveal your plans and ideas, why would anyone vote for you?

Enigmatic, ambiguous obscurity is what this year’s Senate and House races are made of. Or maybe it’s just plain ol’ ignorance.

You might say it’s a bipartisan effort. Finally, both parties are taking the same route.

When Senate candidate Sarah Steelman, a Republican from Missouri, was asked about the Violence Against Women Act, she responded: “I’m not sure what that is, because I’m not serving right now.”

Democratic candidate Heidi Heitkamp, running for Senator of North Dakota, wants to get well established in the race before talking about policy: “There will be a lot of months ahead to talk about the details.”

Representative Connie Mack (R-Fla.), who is running for re-election, was asked by MSNBC’s Chuck Todd about student loan interest rates and he gave this answer: “If you don’t mind, Chuck, I want to talk about what’s happening here in the state of Florida.”

Democrat Christie Vilsack, a candidate for Representative of Iowa, isn’t concerned about things that have happened in the past. When asked about Obama’s healthcare law she retorted: “I don’t go back and try to figure out what I would have voted for.”

I guess they figure it’s better to keep your mouth closed and have people believe you’re ignorant than to open it and remove all doubt.

Burger King Agrees To Use Cage-Free Eggs And Pork

The burgers at Burger King may be double-stacked, but the pigs and chickens used to produce their products won’t be.

By 2017, Burger King plans to buy all its eggs and pork from cage-free facilities.

“We believe this decision will allow us to leverage our purchasing power to ensure the appropriate and proper treatment of animals by our vendors and suppliers,” said Jonathan Fitzpatrick, chief brand and operations officer.

Those who push for the humane treatment of animals are pleased that Burger King is raising the bar.

“For every cage-free egg or piece of bacon from a gestation-free pork system that Burger King sells, animals have been spared lifelong confinement in a cage so small they can barely even move,” said Matthew Prescott, the Humane Society of the United States food policy director.

In times past, animals “were going to be slaughtered at some point, but they could have a decent life,” said Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of HSUS. Pacelle believes that the treatment of food animals has worsened in the past 50 years.

Recently, Hellman’s, Sonic, Subway, Ruby Tuesday and Kraft Foods have increased the percentage of cage-free eggs they use in their products.

But not everyone thinks the trend is a positive one. Those who oppose cage-free facilities believe that it causes disease occurrence, as well as prices, to increase.

Pacelle disagrees: “When you are good to animals, there are often good outcomes the rest of the way,” he said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

Student Banned From Prom Because Of Confederate Flag Dress

Texanna Edwards, a high school student in Dyer, Tenn., arrived at the prom but was told she could not enter because of her clothing.

Her dress resembled a Confederate flag.

Edwards, who says she helped make the dress, doesn’t understand why students are allowed to don the rebel flag on clothing during school, but she was not allowed in the door.

“We asked why they thought that, but they kept saying the same thing over and over. We kept asking people walking inside – black and white – and everyone said they loved it. Two black women even went off on the principal. They were upset with the principal. No one was upset with me,” said Edwards.

“Its heritage, not hate,” answered a black student when asked about the fashion statement.

Edwards wore a camouflage dress to a previous school function.

“That’s all I’ve ever wanted is rebel flag and camouflage, and I’m all about my horses,” the senior said in her defense.

TSA Suspected 4-Year-Old Girl Had A Gun

Isabella Brademeyer, a 4-year-old from Montana, was deemed a high security threat by Transportation Security Administration officers after hugging her grandmother.

Isabella, her sister, her mother and her grandmother were traveling home to Montana after attending a wedding in Kansas.

The family passed through security scanners, but the grandmother triggered an alarm. Isabella ran back and hugged her grandmother. It was at this point that TSA officials thought the grandmother had handed Isabella a gun.

“It was implied, several times, that my mother, in their brief two-second embrace, had passed a handgun to my daughter,” Isabella’s mother wrote on Facebook.

As any 4-year-old would do, Isabella ran from TSA officials.

One of the officials allegedly said that the airport would have to be shut down if Isabella did not cooperate.

“When my scared child could not do so, two TSOs called for backup saying, ‘The suspect is not cooperating.’ The suspect, of course, being a frightened child. They treated my daughter no better than if she had been a terrorist,” posted the mother.

Initially, the family was told by TSA agents that they would have to leave the airport because they would not frisk a 4-year-old. But age hasn’t stopped TSA in recent times. TSA has harassed a 7-year-old girl with cerebral palsy and a 3-year-old in a wheelchair. In the end, Isabella was frisked as well.

Apparently, TSA officials who initially covered the situation passed the news on to other airports. In Denver, an airport employee asked the family to point out Isabella.

TSA responded to the incident: “TSA has reviewed the incident and determined that our officers followed proper current screening procedures in conducting a modified pat-down on the child.”

Grandmother Opens Fire On Robbers

A Georgia grandmother saved her money and her life by firing shots at two men attempting to rob her.

After Lulu Campbell, 57, dropped off her grandson at her daughter’s house, two men approached Campbell’s truck, demanded money and threatened to shoot her.

The robbers wanted Campbell to open the door, but she refused. “I said, ‘Baby, you’re going to kill me anyway, so I don’t have to open it!’” Campbell said.

According to Campbell, one of the men fired a shot and missed. Campbell, who always carries a gun, fired back and hit the man in the chest. A shootout ensued with the second man, and he eventually fled the scene.

Reportedly, Campbell’s truck sustained eight bullet holes in the hood, and both side windows were shot out.

Campbell, who owns convenience stores and gas stations, told The Telegraph: “I’m very nervous. I carry a gun all the time.”

One of the attackers, Brenton Lane Spencer, is hospitalized. The other suspect, Dantre Shivers, has not been apprehended.

Campbell left the scene unharmed.

Man Arrested In Beating Of Matthew Owens

Terry Rawls, 44, has been arrested in the mob beating of Matthew Owens in Mobile, Ala.

Owens was beaten viciously and is in critical care. After the assault, one of the attackers reportedly said, “Now that’s justice for Trayvon.”

After being contacted by police, Rawls turned himself in.

This is not Rawls’ first run-in with the law. In 2000, he pleaded guilty to criminal assault. In 2004, he was arrested on two third-degree burglary charges.

Police believe that a large number of the 20 or so blacks involved in the attack on Owens only watched the assault take place. So far, no other warrants have been issued, but police say two or three more arrests may take place.

According to police, Rawls and Owens have a history of confrontation.

‘Now That’s Justice For Trayvon,’ White Man In Critical Care After Black Mob Beating

An attacker who brutally beat a man on his front porch was heard to say “Now that’s justice for Trayvon” as he was walking away from the victim.

Matthew Owens, a white man from Mobile, Ala., is in critical condition after being severely beaten by a violent mob that included the Trayvon Martin supporter.

According to police, Owens was upset with a group of kids because they were playing basketball in the middle of the street. Owens confronted the kids, and they left. But then a larger group came back to the scene.

Ashley Parker, Owens’ sister, said they attacked her brother with “brass buckles, paint cans and anything they could get their hands on.”

Parker says there were about 20 attackers, all of whom were black.

Police have no suspects in the crime, and according to News 5 in Mobile, police are downplaying the comment about Martin.
