As vote on Boehner bill approaches, all eyes on the House

The bill put forward by House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) to reduce spending and raise the debt-limit will, by all accounts, be brought to the floor for a vote this evening. However, speculation remains as to whether the Speaker will have enough votes to pass the so-called Budget Control Act of 2011 on to the Senate.

After the first draft of the bill failed to cut the deficit by an amount equal to or higher than the amount it raised the debt limit, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has concluded that this incarnation of the bill does what it says it would.

“The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has released its analysis of the revised Budget Control Act of 2011 today, and CBO’s analysis confirms that the spending cuts are greater than the debt hike — affirming that the House GOP bill meets the critical test House Republicans have said they will insist upon for any bill to raise the nation’s debt ceiling,” read a post on the Speaker’s blog.

The cuts fall below the previously stated goal of $1 trillion, amounting to only about $915 billion according to the CBO. However, because Boehner’s bill raises the debt limit by $900 billion, Boehner seems confident that the bill can pass now — if he can get the Republican votes.

“We do not have the votes yet,” Boehner said in a closed meeting of House Republicans this morning, according to POLITICO. “But today is the day. We’re going to get it passed.”

“[Senate Majority Leader Harry] Reid has said Boehner’s plan would be ‘dead on arrival’ but that he could incorporate elements of it in a way that could win support from both parties,” read an article for Reuters.

The Boehner bill stinks worse than Barney Franks soiled diapers. Besides, there’s talk today of Obama invoking the 14th amendment with an excutive order which would allow him to unilaterally raise the debt ceiling. A move that would confirm that we now live in a dictatorship while undermining the authority of The House of Irrelevance in one fell swoop. If that happens “We the People” should invoke the 2nd amendment in a collaborative bipartisan fashion with unabashed American pride.

      I’m with you on that!

    • Dan az

I hear that michael!Reid already said its not going to happen and thats that. That only give the go ahead to obummer to give it a try!

  • Raggs

Boehner needs to understand that oblama will never vote in ANY republican bill…. oblama’s idea of a compromise is for the GOP to lay down and roll over… Question remains … Will Boehner cave in?

If Boehner knew that this is all oblamas plan to destroy America maybe Boehner would do what he really needs to do.

  • Dan az

Boner will gave in at the last minute.Because of whats going on in greece right know. They layed off a couple of million gubmnt employees and if they did that here who would go after their coffee and donuts? If obumer use’s the 14th to go around and blame them for it I say we impeach him.

  • Raggs

Well guess….. A leakage from a commie democrap has it that oblama has a “PLAN” ( if you can imagine that he would ).. In english it means that he ( oblama ) is going to use the 14th and the courts can legitimize it after the money is spent… So it will be tied in court long after oblama blows yet another wad on his cronies and unions for a re-election.

And just what plan should Obama use, he has taken an oath to uphold the Constitution and did not sell away upholding that oath with signing a pledge to a nobody. Apparently the pledgers are more interested in raising our debt and not trying to get the debt down. They are the big spenders and just wasting on higher interest rates. We need to get rid of deadheads.

This is perhaps Boehner’s last chance to stand tall or get on his knees and be a professional suck-up for Herr Obummer. You’re dealing with the potential destruction of the American economy, Mr. Boehner.
If you give in to the GOP’s retards or Obummer’s European-style mix of fascism, socialism and communism, then you’re no different than Obummer, Mr. Boehner.
Choose, Mr. Boehner. You can be an American, or you can be a total waste and fit only for deportation or incarceration.
