As Federal Government Sues Arizona, Study Shows Staggering Cost Of Immigration

July 9, 2010 by

As federal government sues Arizona, study shows staggering cost of immigrationThe Justice Department filed a lawsuit in Federal court on Tuesday, arguing that the new Arizona immigration law is unconstitutional and requesting a preliminary injunction to prevent it from going into effect at the end of this month.

"The Federal government is taking an important step to reassert its authority over immigration policy in the U.S.," said Benjamin Johnson, executive director of the American Immigration Council. "It will seek to define and protect the Federal government’s constitutional authority to manage immigration."

However, on the same day the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) released a new report, entitled The Fiscal Burden of Illegal Immigration on U.S. Taxpayers, which estimates the costs to American taxpayers to be approximately $113 billion a year.

The study found that this amount translates to an average cost to native-headed households of $1,117 a year. It stressed, however, that this burden is unevenly distributed, with families living in states with high immigration population bearing a particularly heavy cost.

FAIR was founded in 1979 and is a non-partisan immigration reform group. It has more than 250,000 members and advocates an immigration reform that enhances national security, improves the economy, protects jobs, preserves the environment and establishes a rule of law that is enforced.

  • Doc Sarvis

I would love to know if and how this study incorporated the amount of money U.S. citizens saved by using the cheap labor provided by these folks who live, for the most part, in poverty.

    • Al Sieber

Where the hell did you grow up? this is what it cost the American tax payers, (us) per year,to take care of these dead beats, which is unnecessary, didn’t you read the article?

      • Doc Sarvis

        Al Sieber,

I didn’t know you were so into me. Since you must know, I grew up right here in the good ole’ United States of America.

I read the article. It says how much it costs American tax payers to take care of these people; not dead beats as practically all of them work hard here. They work hard and earn very little for their efforts on our behave. If they were not doing the work, I seriously believe that all of us would be paying a lot more for housing, maintenance of various types, much of our food, and other things. The article mentions nothing about that factor

        • jomama

          Doc Sarvis -
There is only one thing that you left out of your response to Al (Al already knows this, but…) THESE PEOPLE ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE!!! THEY ARE ALL ILLEGAL!! THEY ARE CRIMINALS!!!

Do you just come here to piss people off or what??

          Jeez!!

          • Doc Sarvis

            Jomama,

To answer your question; it’s “or what”. And I did NOT say that these people, who are an important part of our economy, are legal. Ronald Reagan gave them amnesty as I recall.

          • http://naver samurai

Doc, where have you been? Many of these people came here after Reagan left office. Let’s see how you feel when you can’t get a decent paying job at a factory, because the place is full of illegals and people from south of the border. I may understand how an American may feel flipping burgers at McDonalds, but we deserve those better paying jobs and not these law breakers that come here. The law that Arizona has passed isn’t unconstitutional or illegal. It’s basically the laws that are already on the books, but just not enforced as they are supposed to be. Let’s see what happens after November this year. Some real change will be coming to America! FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!

          • Doc Sarvis

            Samurai,

Good catch, I am well aware that Reagan’s amnesty was for those already in the country at the time. My post did not make that clear.

My comment was intended to bring up that “remedy” as an option now. The questions are; why did R. Reagan do it in the 80′s and was that situation different from the current situation?

          • meteorlady

Doc – Reagan gave them amnesty but 83% gained that status through fraud. They in turn brought in about the same amount of immigrants as family members. In the end they cost the American taxpayers around $10 to $18 million per year in entitlements because they didn’t better themselves through education, and they didn’t pay taxes like promised – they just headed for the entitlement office to collect their money. The continued to have more children than they could afford so the rest of us had to pay for that and 53% of them settled in California and are still there collecting their benefits from the government.

Thanks, but I leave for a couple months at a time and have to have yard care – I hire an American citizen and he also hire Americans. Costs me $10 more per week is all and he’s paying taxes. The illegals work for almost as much and ask for cash – they pay no taxes but I see them the local grocery store using food stamps and carting around 4 to 6 children they can’t afford to take care of. Is this what you consider justice for me as a taxpayer?

        • valricoslash

Doc Sarvis. I’ll pay more, thank you very much, if it means Americans won’t lose their jobs. What part of “illegal” do you not understand? I have no problem with immigrant workers coming here on a work visa and returning home. What I do object to is illegal persons taking jobs away from American citizens, and even legal immigrants on work visas, who took the time to enter this country the right way. And don’t tell me that they all do jobs that Americans won’t do, becuase I Know and you know that is nothing but left wing BS. The facts are that these people might start out picking oranges, but they quickly work their way into the building industry and other well paying jobs held by Americans, but at a lower cost, thus forcing Americans out of these jobs. Why should a builder higher a framer at $20/hour when he can get an illegal Mexican for $16/hour? Not exactly below minimum wage is it? But, much lower than what would be paid a US citizen. The way to fix the problem is to start arresting and fining (substantially) the people who employ these illegals. Once the jobs dry up they will migrate back to Mexico or wherever they came from. Since when should the US be funding Mexico’s welfare problem? IT is time it stops.

        • Al Sieber

Well Doc Sarvis, why do you believe that the tax payers of this country have to pay to take care of Mexico’s problems? why do we have to put up with our country being invaded by the drug cartels and their violence? kidnappings, home invasions, rapes, robberies, child molesters murders etc. do you think it’s right for the American citizen to carry this burden? how much longer do you think we can take it? if you grew up in this country you should know whats going on, or you’re a liberal, or can’t think for yourself or both.

          • Doc Sarvis

            I’ll pick “I know what’s going on”.

          • Al Sieber

Good pick Doc, now why don’t act like it. you should come out to Ariz. and spend a night on the border, you can even be armed, I wouldn’t recommend you not to be.

          • Doc Sarvis

            Al Sieber,

Wow, first you want to know where I’m from and now you are inviting me over. You really are into me. I’m sorry, but I’m not into stalkers.

          • Al Sieber

Jeez Doc, I didn’t know you were gay. I was trying to educate you about whats really going on in Ariz. and you have to be a smart ass about it. I guess some people can’t handle the truth. theres 10 people on here trying to educate you. I can see its a waste of time.

          • http://personalliberty.com wayne

i have already made suggestions to my congressman which are good working solutions. one. return our troops from iraq and afghanistan. make more bases along the borders (especially training bases). with military presence along the border and part of their mission would be border guard. the borders would be more secure. also with training post there artillery and mortar fire (practice) would make it less fun to cross the borders, not forgetting the live nightfire training with tracers etc etc. two, instead of throwing money around and having it disappear faster than a david copperfield elephant we could fill the ranks of border patrol and immigration enforcement giving hard working americans good middle class employment while helping the country deplete its unwanted visitors. 3. funding??? give the ones that feel the need to illegaly hire illegals progressive fines until they also delete their supplyof unwanted visitors. final fine removal of business licenses. thank you and no unfortunately i am not running for office.

          • ashforkdan arizona

the fact is this country is the strongest in the world and the only way it can be destroyed is from within we were never challanged on our soil untill the peaceful islamic nation decided they were going to be the ones that took down the in god we trust on 911 so we brought it to them and they were on there knees in the shortest war in history what i disagree with is that we should not try to civilize monkeys they need to stay in the wild . there peaceful islamic jihadist are never going to understand why they cant progress with the rest of the world and why nobody wants to play with them so either we turn there sand box into a glass bowl or we just let them martyr them selves like they have for the past 2000 yrs what i cant understand is how anybody could have voted for a radical muslim after the attack that killed 5000 citizens for shame of allah if there arab decent or want to be black muslim we need to deport all of them back to the sand box that they love so much we the people need to take back our country and our laws of god given rights not give it to liberal radicals that want to be muslims we dont need there oil as you can see we have plenty of our own lets get rid of nafta and close our borders and if the companies that sold us out dont like it then they should stay where they are we wil build new ones and as far as isreal goes give them the ok that they shouldnt need from us in the first place that should really piss them off and as far as we are profiling then tell me how can a white race profile a white race which is what the latino hispanic people are its time that we see the liberals for what they are if they dont like it then leave there other countries that think the way you do so go there and get out of my country that you hate so much impeach the imposter and all of the congress that refuses to obey the laws and the word of we the people we have had enough no leave we are 300 million strong and well armed if you think the un can take our soverinty you are mistaken they gave up to children that pellted them with eggs and sticks and stones theres a real army to make you quiver arizona has took a stand so now when will you

        • Steve

what’s up Doc?…if it’s costing us $113 billion a year…where’s the savings in that?….we would survive just fine if you sent most of them packing….

          • Doc Sarvis

I was just asking if the “study” took into account the amount of money citizens save in getting services at the low labor costs these folks provide.

          • “Semper-Fi”

Hey Doc—Thats the way a liberal or progressive would answer something he doesnt want to admit to– you mention how items and services would be more but what you neglect to see is that when most illegals make what they make -most of them send that money out of country –to MEXICO mostly–if Americans had those jobs ,even at a higher rate ,,that money would still mostly be recirculated here and therefore help the overall economy! –not just take from it!!!!!
            “Semper-Fi”

          • Doc Sarvis

            Semper-Fi,
What I stated above referrs to my original question which nobody seems to be able to answer. I know we are talking about illegal immigrants. The article, Steve, and others refer to the “cost” of $113 billion/year. That is not the REAL cost IF the lower costs to consumers for their services is not factored in. That is all that I am saying.

Oh and thought it is probably a dissapointment to Al Sieber – I am not gay.

          • Kellie, California

yeah, you should start by filling those jobs that Im sure you would be willing to take
since you seem to want to benefit from their absence, you should start by requesting a job here,
            http://www.takeourjobs.org
I am quite sure that you would be able to cope with the working conditions: “During summer, when the harvest of fruits and vegetables is in full swing in California’s Central Valley, temperatures hover in the triple digits. Heat exhaustion is one of the reasons farm labor consistently makes the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ top ten list of the nation’s most dangerous jobs.”
“Second, expect long days. Growers have a small window to pick fruit before it is overripe.
And don’t count on a big paycheck. Farm workers are excluded from federal overtime provisions, and small farms don’t even have to pay the minimum wage. Fifteen states don’t require farm labor to be covered by workers compensation laws.”
I could swear you wouldnt last a second there.
Get informed before posting bigoted comments.

          • http://?? Joe H.

            Kelli,
you just helped with my answer to Doc S.! All the descriptions you gave just help prove that if you make them legal they will run, not walk to the nearest unemployment office and hire into the nearest factory or construction job they can find.
Doc, as far as those beneficial pluses that you speak of, they are far outweighed by the jobs that they take on the sly in drywalling, carpentry, concrete, construction, welding, meatpacking, and all the other types of jobs they can find at better than double what they make in the fields!! now how many American CITIZENS are put out of work by this???

          • Jana

Doc, Around here (in Texas) the illegals charge what the legals charge for their uhhhhh services. Then they still get free health care, food stamps and housing. Oh yes, and they also get food stamps for each child and welfare for these children too. Sometimes they even get these benefits under their dad’s name as well as under their mother’s name as they go by different sir names all of the time.

        • Steve

what’s up Doc?….let’s all pay alittle bit more and put legal Americans to work…and maybe we’ll save our country a $113 billion a year…

        • meteorlady

Hey Doc I’m going to assume that you are taking care of a family of illegals right this minute in your own home? Are you providing for the food, transportation, housing, education and health care? If not you should be because that’s what the rest of us do every single day when we look for work or loose our jobs, when we pay our taxes and when we pay for the increase in health care.

Have you actually gone to a hospital emergency room lately in a big city? Have you gone the the local courts and seen all the interpreters we are paying for?

As for AZ, I’m glad they are enforcing our federal laws. I can’t see where they are interfering with the Feds at all since they are handing over every single illegal they catch to the immigration service for processing.

As for costs – they cost us more than both wars every single year and that’s a fact you can find on a few honest websites if you’d care to check.

        • ashforkdan arizona

does slavery come to mind when you say cheaper listen the costs that arizona has to pay is in the hundreds of millions per year for the catch and release program that never sees but one quarter of the monies repaid by the government where do you think the monies come from we the tax payers of arizona you are not paying your share

          • Al Sieber

ashforkdan, I don’t live too far from you and wait until next year if you think we’re paying a lot of taxes now, if there was a way to get out of paying taxes I would. I’m tired of paying for illegal alien dead beats. they come through here at night in 3 different areas, you never know if you’re gonna come around a corner in some canyon and run into them, there’s usually between 15-25, I’ve told the authorities and they’ve done nothing. a friend of mine and his neighbor got in a over the border gun battle with them about 8 years ago, they live 900′ from the border, they were told by the authorites they weren’t supposed to shoot back and now they’ve been warned they’re on the cartels hit list.

          • http://?? Joe H.

            Al,
Reminds me of VietNam. you could be fired on in a chopper and they would call in for permission to return fire and would be told negative may be friendlies. My pilot once radioed in and was told that and he buzzed them till they fired again and he radioed in and said “Receiving friendly fire, returning same!!

          • Al Sieber

JoeH, I hear you, too bad I can’t tell you how it ended up.

        • Sandra

Look deeper and don’t rely just on this article which barely touches the subject. While I was doing contract nursing in S. Calif two hospitals closed within a 3 month period because they could no longer afford to keep their doors open due to the treating of illegals. Some get medicaid and use it repeatedly with various friends and families. In one hospital in N Calif (county hosp in Salinas) they could hardly keep the records straight. This is just one small area that is affected by illegal aliens. There are, of course, other areas such as unpaid taxes, prisons filled with illegals and we pay the price fiscally and socially. There are ranchers along the border that can hardly work their land due to the trafficing of drugs and humans. By the way the Mexican Federales are helping them. Rush not to judgment on Arizona. This is not a profiling issue.

    • Norman

Yo Doc! If you are so concerned about all of those illegals living in poverty, have you considered bringing a small family of 8 or 9 of them into your home? Just think…you would have built in landscapers, maids, someone to pick your “victory” garden veggies, and numerous kids to do the “chores” that your own family “doesn’t want to do” It wouldn’t cost too much either. Less than minimum wage is perfect. After all, they are all getting free medical care, welfare, wick program, free clothing from the Goodwill industries, a free phone because they are on welfare, and you could let them ride around in your Lexus. If that isn’t big enough for them when the extended family shows up at your door, you could always rent a van. They are used to them.

      • Doc Sarvis

        Norman,

Good idea. Unfortunately, I’m livin’ on a shoestring so I just have enough for me and the family.

        • Palin12

What kind of doc lives on a shoestring? Most of the ones I’ve known are pretty well off.

          • Al Sieber

Palin12, I think he’s a proctologist, but he even can’t get his own head out of his a$$.

          • Palin12

            Al,
Proctologist….what a job…you start at the bottom and you stay there.
Doc’s a typical liberal…likes to spend other people’s money, not his own. Just like John Kerry (D-Mass) who has $190 million (not counting his wife’s $$$). Why don’t Kerry and Doc redistribute their own money?

    • MOMSRIGHT

We had a family of illegals move in next to us. They were able to buy the home they moved into. They were receiving welfare cash and food stamps plus they both worked. They had brand new vehicals put their daughters in acting and modeling school and lived a pretty expensive life style. They also let their kids run wild. I was constantly over at their house asking them to reign in their kids who threw rocks at my kids and injured them. They also would come into my house and steal things. Once I went next door to confront the mom on something that her boy stole. When I came into their house there was my property sitting right there in plain sight! When I told the mom it belonged to me she said, oh no, that has always been my sons! The straw that broke the camels back was when their son sneaked into my four year old daughters room and molested her! I called the cops took my daughter to counseling etc and nothing was ever done to the boy. We finally decided to move for our kids safety.I latter learned that her 14 year old daughter was pregnant! I dont know what happened to her boys but I wouldn’t be surprised to learn they are in jail! I think American can do without all that so called cheap labor!

      • Jana

        Momsright

I bet Doc Sarvis ignores this one.
Unfortunately this goes on many times over. And, they also bring in other illegals and overload the septic or the commode system. Their hygiene is almost non existant.
I am glad you moved, but I am so sorry about your daughter.

        • http://?? Joe H.

          Doc Sarvis,
answer the lady!!! If it wasn’t for illegals, her daughter might not have been molested!! laugh at the simplicity of my post, but it is TRUE. If the illegals weren’t streaming into this country so fast, it wouldn’t happen as much as it does! Check out Sheriff Joe Arripaos site and look at his wanted site! see how many of them are repeat offenders of child molestation!

          • Joe you’re too ignorant

Hey jo im assuming you didnt check your facts again huh?
i would start by worrying about your own kind, read this from the U. S. Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Statistics “Those convicted of committing violent acts against children were more like to have been white, a percentage of nearly 70%, than any other race.”

I guess you should be more worried about YOUR neighbors ¡cabrón!

          • Jana

            Joe you’re too ignorant,
whoever you are you have just shown your own ignorance.

          • http://?? Joe H.

            hey Ignorant,
does it matter who does it?? It’s wrong no matter who does it and it’s worse if it’s done by someone that doesn’t belong here and the government does nothing to stop them from entering this country!!! no I guess you are too ignorant to know the difference!!!

        • Claire

If something like that had happened to my daughter, I would probably be in jail.

          • http://naver samurai

Me too. I’d probably go down for the full 25 years at least! Your name says it right, you’re too ignorant! I remember I went back home to Elkhart, In to visit my mother in 2000. I wanted to see her and show her my new rank of E7. As I pulled into her driveway, the house next door had a family from Mexico living there. I didn’t think too much about it at the time, but later on I did. One day we had just come back from church and they were playing their music kind of loud, so my brother and I went over there to ask them (politely) to turn it down. Of course they didn’t speak English and our spanish ability was very limited. Well, push came to shove and they didn’t turn down the music. We called the police and they came out there. When they arrived, they had to bring someone who spoke their language. After awhile, I came over there too, but in my dress uniform and asked them for ID. I told them that I worked for the federal government and wanted to see their ID. About 2-3 days later, they moved out. I guess that was one way to get rid of some illegals in my neighborhood.

Claire, like your posts and keep them coming. Keep up the good fight fellow patriot! FOR GOD AND COUNTRY! Let’s make our country’s light of freedom shine brighter than it is now with “Osama” in office.

DS, I’d love to know how long it takes to program Obummer apologists. How is it possible that people who are otherwise “normal” can line up like retarded sheep to try and defend the indefensible?
Herr Obummer will try to use the Supremacy Clause to make his ‘case’ against Arizona and the American people. The Supremacy Clause is a bogus attempt to permit a corrupt government to BYPASS the Constitution, look the other way while the executive branch subverts all constitutional checks and balances and – somehow – pretends to preseve, protect and defend the Constitution.
You, sir, are all the proof I need to know that public education is a farce, this administration relies on dumbed-down, two-legged sheep, your universe dotes on mind-warping drugs and the day you have to face reality is the day you’ll finally KNOW and ADMIT that no fantasy is ever the same as reality.
You’re whizzing up a giant redwood, and the best you can expect is to get wet. Enjoy – and learn how to swim. That sucking sound you hear is either the Titanic II on its way to the bottom of the ocean, or there’s a huge toilet in your vicinity, and someone has flushed it.

    • meteorlady

Not sure where you are from but where I live we don’t hire them personally. As for yard work and maids, we are starting to ask for proof of citizenship because we are part of the problem if we don’t ask. I also do not buy Hormel products or Tyson Chicken because they are notorious for hiring illegals to work.

Do you honest believe that they don’t run down wages where they work? In Washington state the illegals were working in Eastern Washington picking apples, pears, and all the other crops. Then the started filtering over the the West side because contractors were hiring them. The jobs that used to pay $20/35 per hours are now paying $8/10 per hour. That means that a citizen can’t make money after they pay taxes, insurance when they take the lower wages. So that left the orchard owners and farmers in eastern Washington without a labor pool so they petitioned to have visa workers brought in from south America.

Our Federal Immigration laws state that employers will be fined for hiring illegals. That doesn’t happen right now – Tyson was raided and there were 200 employees found to be illegal. Within two days all were back to work with federal government paperwork to support them being here. Nice reward for Tyson and the illegals for breaking the laws of our country.

    • V fisher

The savings from the cheap labor of these lawbreakers were pocketed by the greedy businesses that hired them to work.

Uncle Scam’s had it so easy for so many years that he’s forgotten that he’s supposed to be America’s role model. Uncle Scam is a warped, pathetic, bloated porker joke.
Arizona is doing Uncle Scam’s job, and his string-pullers are having to scramble to make Uncle Scam look good (if that’s possible). According to
the CONSTITUTION (the document that politicians LOVE to ignore), when Uncle Scam REFUSES to do his JOB, the it’s up to the STATES to protect themselves against a government GONE MAD.
For the retards who claim that conservatives have no right to protect themselves against Uncle Scam’s INCOMPETENCE, thousands of REAL Americans are ready to go to Arizona and SHOW the old fart how to do it RIGHT.
Washington’s reaction to this scripted scenario was predictable. It’s the same reaction of a career criminal when he’s caught in the act with his pants down.
UP YOURS, UNCLE SCAM. Kennedy and Washington pimps and whores SAT on the illegal alien matter for DECADES. Read the Constitution, you treasonous
    weasels.
With a little luck, you might even find some reasons to clean up the horrendous environmental damage that illegals inflict on Arizona. SCREW YOU,
    UNCLE SCAM.

    • jomama

Love ya, SC. I love it when you say it like it is.
      James – you are right!!
ML – you are also right. What makes our leaders think that when they get the amnesty (god, please no!!) they will want better paying jobs JUST because they are “newly made Americans”??
Not only that – but if someone doesn’t hire them – they can ALWAYS cry discrimination if they DON’T get what they want (you know they demand too much already)??

      Something to think about…………………

    • Al Sieber

Thanks JC, a lot of people don’t even know the millions of pounds of trash thrown on the ground in our mountains, desert, and the game refuge is completely trashed and occupied. good post.

Al, tell it to the character who calls himself ‘Doc.’ He’s probably busy fondling a tree or waiting for his next apologist’s check from the Herr Obummer slush fund.
If I had my way, every Sierra Club doofus and every Herr Obummer suck-up in America would be in Arizona, picking up all that illegal alien trash and forwarding it to the career retards in Washington. It might even allow Herr Obummer to ‘create’ a few new jobs – assuming that new jobs are important to the Paranoid-in-Chief.

Jc, you probably know how crooked the Sierra Club is, and how they steal peoples land and sell it for a hugh profit.

    • Jana

      sc,
I am also wondering how much of our tax dollars it is going to cost us to sue Arizona. This money is coming from the people to sue the people and the people do NOT want to sue Arizona in the first place. We ought to take this out of Obamas pay check as well as the pay checks of Congress. Oh yes, don’t forget Eric Holder. He needs to pay as well!

  • http://jmayhak@comcast.net James

The federal government should give Arizona an AWARD for doing what the federal government will not do, protect the border, all of the border, not just parts!!!! The President is RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SECURITY OF THIS COUNTRY. He needs to face up to it. Instead he uses it as a political bargaining chip. Everything he does is politically motivated. When will he realize he needs to lead people rather then order them around (dicator Obmoma). The border will remain a mess, as long as the government is more interested in a law suit. The attitude must change in Washington. FAT CHANCE THAT WILL HAPPEN!!!!!

    • http://n/a Eve

Has anyone on this post ever heard of “impeachment” I challange ya’ll to put your signature on an impeachment petition instead of just posting/blogging and do everything you possibly can to suport Arizona…..if everyone sent $10 to help them secure the borders…..
$500,000 has been sent as of Saturday……..does that send a message to the imposter and his merry men/women in the white house?

Also get off your arses in November and help us take back our country…just in case you really care about the United States of America. We either unite or we fail. You can bet, if amensty gets passed..and this guy will die trying……….Acorn’s new organization will be out there getting votor registrations to obama’s “new Americans” legally or probably as the last time illegally or with intimidation curtesy of his black panther army

      • Sandra

While impeachment has a certain appeal, if we were to send money to help secure our borders, whoever did it would probably by arrested or worse. It is so frustrating to think that we should have to be asking our president to secure our borders. It is sickening to see the direction that our socialist president is taking this country.

  • Ted Crawford

The progressives have allready backwatered their deal with Reagan and failed to secure the borders, now they want…. “a path to citizenship” again, without securing the border! There is a path to citizenship, obama, it’s called LEGAL immigration!
We can only hope that this Federal Judge, like the one on the Gulf issue, makes the right decision for America!
It is very “transparent” that this president and his administration have read comrade Alinskys’ book, isn’t it??

  • M.L.

IT’S NOT ENOUGH THAT THE ILLEGALS HAVE COST US BILLIONS OF DOLLARS PER STATE, AND A TRILLION IN THE UNDERGROUND (AS SAID BY A DEMOCRAT NAMED WILEY)BUT NOW THEY WANT THEM TO HAVE EQUAL PAY FOR THE WORK OF THE JOBS THEY STOLE. WHICH MEANS IN THE END THEY WILL EARN MORE THAN THE AVERAGE AMERICAN THAT WOULD MAKE THE SAME SALARY, DUE TO THE FACT THAT THEY GET EVERYTHING ELSE FOR FREE.

And these were people paying into the system!

  • Aging Bull

It should be obvious the inaction of the government to stem the flow of illegal immigration is an attempt to garner votes from the Latino community. Instead of common sense and financial consequences they revert to calling dissenters racists and hard-hearted xenophobes.

Politicians are willing to sell our freedom and safety to protect their seats of power and the luxury of their positions.

Instead of empathizing with Arizona and helping them to protect their citizens they file a lawsuit to block their attempts.

Without even reading the Arizona law, Obama said publicly that it may lead to profiling.

This argument is as specious as saying: Having a beautiful body may lead to prostitution.

If the Administration and Congress would consider the possible consequences of the laws they make, they would be loathe to pass half the bills they do.

I, for one, am 100% behind Arizona. I only hope the rest of the states would take back their sovereignty from our bloated federal bureaucracy. Every law that is not constitutional should be annulled and there are many.

Arizona’s law is an attempt to save themselves from financial and total collapse. Put yourself in their position and consider: if your home was under attack by invaders and you depend on a police force that refuses to respond to your plight would you take steps to protect yourself, or would you wait for the police to get around to it?

    • meteorlady

I find it hard to believe that Latino citizens are not also outraged by all this. After all it affects them as much as the rest of us in lost jobs, lost tax revenue and higher health care costs. I think it’s sad that the Democrats believe that Latinos are so stupid as to fall for all this crap in the first place.

      • Claire

meteorlady– I know several Hispanics that sympathize with the illegals. They think Obama should declare amnesty, and they think we will all live happily ever after. I realize not all of them want amnesty, but there are some that do. I know I probably sound like a racist, I do not intend to, but something has to be done about this situation. America cannot afford amnesty.

        • ashforkdan arizona

clair you cant be a racist when latinos are a white race

          • James G

(following your argument)… racism is not necessarily displayed on the grounds of skin color, that you think that tells a lot about who you are. regardless of you thinking theyre white (haha), the racism claire evoked upon herself is one triggered by xenophobic attitudes. Yes, americans are afraid latinos will take over their country and will impose their culture upon this land. the former is an aloft conjecture whereas the latter duh it’s evident it has already taken place.
please read more about the latinos’ heritage from wiki:

            Although a large majority of Hispanics have Spanish ancestry, most Hispanics are not of direct (non–Latin American) Spanish descent; many are not primarily of Spanish descent; and some are not of Spanish descent at all. For example, there are Hispanics of other European ancestries (e.g. Italian, German, Polish), as well as Middle Eastern (e.g. Lebanese), Black, Amerindian/Native American, Asian, and mixed race ancestries — of the latter, MESTIZO (White and Amerindian/Native American) and MULATTO (White and Black) are the most common;
            Most U.S. Hispanics can speak Spanish, not all; and most Spanish-speaking people are Hispanic, not all (e.g., many U.S. Hispanics by the fourth generation no longer speak Spanish, while some who are Spanish-speaking may not identify themselves with Spanish-speaking Americans as a group;
Many, perhaps most, Hispanics have a Spanish surname, not all do (notable examples of the latter include New Mexico governor Bill Richardson and NFL star Jim Plunkett), and most Spanish-surnamed people are Hispanic, not all. For example, there are many Filipino Americans, Chamorros (Guamanians and Northern Mariana Islanders), Palauans, Micronesians (FSM), and Marshallese with Spanish surnames in the United States who, however, have their own, non-Hispanic ethnic identities. Likewise, while a number of Louisiana Creole people have Spanish surnames, they identify with the mostly French – though partially Spanish – culture of the region.

I have, I would estimate about 15 or 20 hispanic friends that I’m real close with. Like family you might say. All of them are against amnesty and are against illegals as well. They are really pizzed off that they are getting in illegally just by crossing the border while They took the legal route and waited. Now the ones that are illegal are gonna get amnesty and didn’t wait at all!

  • Michael Sweeney

When you grant amnesty to anywhere from 15 to 30 million illegal immigrants then employers will have to provide better pay, benefits, etc. which will make the prices of those products go up anyway. No one said that a portion of these people don’t work very hard, but much of that money goes back south of the border- it does not stay here and benefit our country. When people try to use the angle that the aliens work hard for peanuts and are abused by big business I think that these people chose to sneak across our border, steal someone’s SS# and obtain that job. If they do not like the working conditions then they have the choice of going back home. I personally feel these businesses should be punished because they are chosing to hire illegals over citizens of this country. We could also get people out of the welfare lines and get them jobs (if some of these people will actually work). When our country was being oppressed in the 1700′s our forefathers stood up and resisted tyranny. If the countries south of our border are being oppressed then it is time for them to stand up and take their countries back.

    • meteorlady

Getting welfare people that are able to work actually work is a hard nut to crack. There are a lot of them that actually believe that they get the money directly from Obama and not from the American workers.

    • Claire

And if businesses/companies have to pay more, they will continue to leave America and go to foreign countries, just like they are doing now.

  • http://PersonalLibertyDigest Janice, Alabama native

If these illegals who commit a crime by crossing our borders without permission would work as hard at improving conditions in their native countries as they do in stealing our wealth, everyone would benefit.

    • Kellie, California

      Hi racist Jane.
Since you seem to rid the States of these immigrants, I encourage you to take their jobs, just go to http://www.takeourjobs.org

Get informed before posting bigoted comments.

      • Saxman

        Hey Kellie, California,
Shut up already!! The people you pretend to care about want those jobs in central valley. And the administration you back shut off the water up there. So, the people you pretend to care about lost their jobs. The growers who invest went south on their income. Farms closed. So, before calling people racist, why don’t YOU get a clue. The USA has been under attack by the “elite” for over 100 years. Until now they haven’t had the guts to come out of the shaddows. But, being they have been exposed by Alex Jones and Ron Paul and others they have their own website “Bilderberg Group” trying to do image maintenance. You dear person are nothing but a parrot. Obama is nothing but a slick front man. And when the USA goes, where will the world go for Liberty and Freedom? You are disqusting.

      • Claire

Kellie, California– I am in the Midwest but I can tell you I am fully aware of what illegals get paid. Next to nothing, no benefits, nothing. And yes, deplorable conditions. And then in other jobs, they get paid better. I also know Americans that will work at any job just to bring in a paycheck, however small instead of taking welfare. Some work 2 and 3 jobs. Give the American people some credit. Unlike illegals, not all Americans are leeches for welfare.
Bigoted comments? Racist? Go ahead and call me racist, I don’t give a hoot what you think. As a taxpayer, I am tired of my tax dollars taking care of people that are not legal citizens. America cannot keep taking care of them. Americans have their own bills to pay. America is broke, and you want to take care of all the illegals? Go ahead, be my guest. You can pay the entire cost for the illegals health care and everything else. Think about the crimes these illegals have committed. Do you approve of these crimes? Their gangs? Their drugs?
We are all paying for the illegals, including you. Can’t you get that through your head?

        • meteorlady

          Yea Clare!

      • http://tigaseren.blogspot.com jespren

This is the most ignorant and annoying argument for illegals. (That they only take the jobs legal green card and american works don’t want) ask your grandparents who used to do these jobs before the huge illegal influx, that’s right: americans and legal green card workers. High school boys saving for their first car or college used to pick fruit from dawn till dark (and still do on family farms), homeless migrants used to fill day labor positions to get them back on their feet, teenagers in large families used to plant trees and do unskilled labor to help increase the family income, etc, etc, etc. Every single job taken by an illegal has in the past been filled by a legal worker, and many deplorable working conditions have only gotten better since then. I’ve worked on a farm from dawn to dark, I’ve cleared land in 3 digit heat, and it was just part of life, just like it would be again for millions of teenagers, unskilled laborers, intigents, and legal migrant workers if the illegal ones where suddenly gone. I am all for immigration and legal migrant workers, I think immigration should be easier, and I also think companies and people hiring illegals should be severly fined and that no social aid should be availible to people who are in this country illegally.

      • meteorlady

Not sure why you would construe that comment as racist. But it seems that most liberal arguments bring race into the picture. This is about enforcing our laws – we are a nation of laws you know. Employers are able to petition for visas for workers if they cannot find Americans to do the job. That’s the legal way – your advocating that illegal is OK because they do hard jobs so it’s OK to break our laws and go through the back door.

As for jobs – I know a lot of people that would love to have their jobs back laying brick, roofing, laying tile, foundation work, electrical, plumbing, and yes, even mowing lawns, etc. You are crazy if you think these are all hard jobs such as you paint. They are lowering the wage standards for most all the jobs in construction and they are lower the standard of living for most American workers. I worked for 27 students that were looking for summer jobs and only one could find a job. Most were held by illegals and when we turned them in nothing was done about it.

        • http://n/a Eve

Being called “racist” is just another way of saying people are too ignorant to hold an intelligent conversation. Think about it………

And Latinos are people from Latin America…..these people for the most part coming across the border illegally aren’t “latinos” they’re Mexicans……….guess calling themselves “latinos” is a glamourous way of putting it? And I was raised in the Southwest, I went to school with American Indians, Blacks, Mexicans legally in the country, Asians etc….so get over the stupid “racism”….. get educated I know very well what’s going on…Arizona is well within its’ rights….I pray many others states pass the same bill.

Talk about the “dumbing of America!” Or maybe it’s not facing reality!

      • http://naver samurai

So what about the 300 billion dollars a year they cost the American people, hmmm? Don’t forget that the average American has to work the first 6 months of the year just to pay for welfare programs and handouts to foreign nationals, never authorized by out Constitution. By the way things are now, I know people who would take those jobs so they can pay for school, eat, pay utilities, etc., so what is your point? Here I’m retire military and I can’t get a job either, so you mean I should just wait till they quit? I think you really need to look at the facts first and grow up before posting. Am I a racist? No. Just ask my wife from Korea. She’ll tell you the same thing.

How can you expect people who come from societies that are inherently corrupt to follow our rules and obligations when they get here? I have worked with and around illegal aliens my entire working life and I can state with certainty that the majority of them refuse to play by the same rules as the mainsteam populace. They game the system, cut corners, and break the law at every opportunity because it is what they have been taught. They lay sideways in the public trough because it is there. It needs to be made inaccessable plain and simple. I have been saying for years that if people knew what illegals were costing them individually, that much of the sympathy for them would evaporate.

  • Martha

A problem hidden by the government is that the federal Center for Disease Control (CDC) has become horribly overwhelmed by identifying and dealing with all the strange, various diseases not before known in this country brought into this country by infected, sick individuals sneaking into the country illegally. God wants the sick to be healed–certainly–and so do I no matter who they are! Buy the manner in which unhealthy illegals sneak in, circulate among other people in a way that spreads whatever disease and unhealthy living practices is certainly unfair to our citizens. Nobody has computed this many-faceted cost.
A question that has bothered me for years hurting Mexican citizens themselves is this: Mexico is NOT a poor country–Mexico is rich in resources both natural and human. They are a bright, talented people. Problem is that drug lords and corrupt leaders keep money for themselves and deprive the people of their own resources. Mexican citizens are oppressed by cruelty and corruption – NOT lack of resources.
WAKE UP, FELLOW AMERICANS – THE FORCES OF CRUELTY AND OPPRESSION ARE DOING THE SAME HERE IN OUR BELOVED USA AND WE MUST VOTE FOR PATRIOTS IN NOVEMBER OR THE SAME THING WILL HAPPEN HERE AS HAPPENED IN MEXICO. GOD INTERVENE AND SAVE US I PRAY.

    • CA Mark

Can you display any more racism moron?
Your comments are clearly ignorant and shows the little education you have received. I have worked in the public health field for the past 10 years, and from my years in school and experience, not once have we considered a non-native as an UNDOCUMENTED. ANYONE who comes from a country or a region affected by endemics is simply considered a non-native. ANY country. For the most part, infectious diseases introduced in this country by non-natives have been from Africa.

Please know your facts well before posting such racist comments.

      • FEDUPINNC

From Wikipedia: It is estimated that as many as 8 to 11 million people in Mexico, Central America, and South America have Chagas disease, most of whom DO NOT KNOW THAT THEY ARE INFECTED. Large-scale population movements from rural to urban areas of Latin America and to other regions of the world have increased the geographic distribution of Chagas disease…
Just ANOTHER thing to be happy that they come across the border for… drugs, smuggling, stealing jobs, not speaking our language, anchor babies, killing and now this… excellent!!! Yeah, I know.. no need to reply to me, I’m a racist.

      • CA Mark

I am really concerned about where we are heading with all the controversy about immigration. Watch FEDUPINNC, he, like most Americans and Jan Brewer seem to be so confident that illegals commit crimes, wow seriously? homicides even? drug smuggling? You know, out of those hard-workers only an infinitesimal percentage are involved in such acts. I understand your close-mindedness only derives one connotation from the word illegal, however, please consider that your facts are wrong.

Joe H, are you serious? Bringing up Chagas shows again you’re so prejudiced. Let me tell you something, if I were you I wouldn’t be worried about contracting it. Yes, Chagas is endemic to Latin America, and though is a cause of concern in the U.S., we have managed to get it under control. Chagas has never figured among the top 10 causes of death, before the 80′s 6/10 were infectious diseases. Now, only 1/10 are infectious diseases (Influenza), the rest being non-infectious like heart diseases, etc. Again, though I’m not a doctor, I work in Public Health labs, and we are more concerned about diseases that do pose a threat to Americans, Chagas is not among them.

I was recently reading an article from Nature that gave some facts about Chagas, if you are so interested and concerned about it:
It is carried by hundreds of thousands of people in Europe (mostly Spain and Portugal), the United States, Canada, Japan and Australia. The carriers are typically South American immigrants, who are often unaware of their infection, which has significant public-health implications for the management of blood banks and health-care provision. In the United States, opossums and raccoons are naturally infected with T. cruzi. Triatomine bugs live in palm trees, hollow trees, burrows, rock piles or other refuges, and feed on the blood of diverse mammals and other vertebrates, and on humans with whom they come into contact by flying into and colonizing their dwellings.

Arizona Senate SB1070 Illegal Immigration Law is a wake-up call not only to Arizona, but to the United States of America. The Illegals are taking over and the Hispanic Community is forcing these illegals on to legal citizens of our country. The cost to Arizona is over 2B per year for illegals for free medical, free schools, free food, etc.
The illegal drug and human traffic with assoicated heredious crimes is increasing rapidly. Muslim Obama’s only interest is to get the Hispanic votes by pushing amensty and will not secure the Arizona border to stop illegals. The American legal citzens need to step up to support Arizona before the same problems caused by illegals arrive at the same level in their States increasing taxpayer costs.

  • Mark

    Doc Sarvis,

How much per hour do you think these illegal immigrants make?

  • Mark

O.K. I suppose that Doc Sarvis has left this forum. I would have to say that the cost savings on service by the illegals would be no more that half of that amount which is spent on them. And it may be far less, but to give Doc Sarvis the benefit if the doubt, I’ll say approximately $56.5 billion, but that means we as tax paying Americans are still in the whole by $56.5 billion.

Oh, and by-the-way Doc Sarvis, when President Regan gave amnesty to those illegals back then, there were only approximately 4,000,000 illegal immigrants in this country and the Democrat majority lead congress then, were suppose to implement stronger regulations on securing our boarder, punishing employers who sought to hire illegals, and deporting those who entered here illegally from that point on. The majority of those who received amnesty during that time were in this country for 30 years or more and were typically migrant workers, not ex-convicts from their own country or gangsters.

Mario – We WELCOME immigrants. We welcome IMMIGRANTS. We do not welcome INVADERS – those who come here illegally. It is not racist to want to get rid of, or punish, those who break the law. Be they Mexican, Canadian, French, on foot, by plane, by train, etc.. Arizona’s problem is illegal entry by Mexicans. Those who come here legally, who wait their turn, are welcome. Those who jump the line, break the law, are not. It’s the ACT, not the person. It’s amazing how those who choose to see racism at every turn will turn every act into racism. It exists, unfortunately – in every country – but it does no good to apply it where it doesn’t.
BTW, every legal immigrant (in this case, Mexican) should be very angry at those who come here illegally, because they are, in fact, jumping the line. They are stealing what’s YOURS as much as stealing what’s mine.

          • Claire

Mario H– If you think I am a racist, then so be it. I really do not care what you think. I am happy to hear you are paying your own way. You will be a better person for it. The people that sponge off America are the ones that concern me. I would think you would understand this aspect of the issue at hand. With the economy the way it is, the cost of everything, and the joblessness, perhaps you will eventually realize the influx of illegals (Mexican or otherwise) and the hardship that it has created is draining America and all Americans. We cannot take care of everybody in the world. It is the taxpayer that has to pay for the brunt of everything. And consider the crimes illegals are committing, oh, I know we already have plenty of crime, but we do not need to add to it.
BTW, thanks for telling me you are studying to be a lawyer, I will know never to hire you in the event an illegal commits a crime AGAINST me, I KNOW who you will protect even if they are guilty.

It’s because of douches like you that America no longer exudes respectable values. We do realize these people have committed a crime by coming here, I don’t think they like coping with all the restrictions and racism imposed upon them everyday, yet they must stay here because the situation in their home countries is so deplorable. Our nanny is an undocumented, at first I was a bit iffy about hiring her, but then my wife convinced me. She is just wonderful and so is her family, she has two children, both of whom attend college despite their status. She has invited us over and we’ve spent some time with their friends and relatives, some of whom are also illegal and they are just normal people, not criminals or gangsters like you people often portray them. Sometimes I think these hard-working people who struggle everyday better embody our values than you Joe H. I see your argument may be valid from several standpoints, but what? you wanna deport 15 million people? That’s not feasible! instead of being so prejudiced, you should propose more sensical solutions. In the end, you and I both know these people won’t leave. Provided that, would you choose be prejudiced and close-minded for the rest of your life? or would you rather accept America’s reality and realize these people need to work legally (not necessarily an amnesty) to better contribute to our country?

          • libertytrain

Michael – would you be paying your undocumented illegal nanny’s SS, withholding and all that good stuff – are you a US Government documented i.e. legal resident – your comment just exposes what the everyday documented legal resident of this Country has to go through — My guess is you yourself are a government employee – who thinks being an ethical, legal American Citizen does not pertain to him – because people are “nice” does not make the situation ok.

      • JC

Bye Bye Mario. The time is coming when the illegals will be scrambling to get out of here. Do yourself a favor and get a head start.

You must also factor in SS which Carter gave to legal immigrants. This allows them to collect SS disability even if they haven’t contributed much into the system.

I’ve been reading here about the illegals who are stealing jobs from American citizens. Not sure if it’s been overlooked or simply not talked about but when a Mexican comes across the border illegally and goes to work here he’s also taking a job away from one of his OWN countrymen that waited to come here legally – or perhaps are still waiting.

Many Mexican’s who came here legally are amongst those of us who want to see illegal aliens returned to their home country. (At least to go to the back of the line and wait their turn.) I’d like to see more of them (those who become American citizens or choose to keep their Mexican citizenship) understand how these thieves effect them as well as the rest of us. Because it’s the act of an individual stealing another’s job, his education & healthcare dollars, etc. And his good name.

The dangers of assumed racial profiling effects all hispanics when none is intended (and the Arizona bill has wording to avoid it) but the suspicion is there – BECAUSE OF THE ACTS OF LAW BREAKERS – those who steal across the border and those who hire them.

I understand the feelings of those caught up in this because of nationality, my father had to change his name because of the acts of others he did not know, did not want to know, and shared nothing but a NAME, but it caused a great deal of grief for the upstanding men who had the same name as the criminal.

I, myself, used to get pulled over, or followed by the law because of the car I drove. Not fun.

Help us send the law breakers packing. Why protect someone who’se breaking the law and harming your image.

I don’t like to call these people immigrants. They are not. They’re lawbreakers. Every sovereign country has immigration laws. I cannot go to Mexico, France, England, Canada, Etc., etc. and stay just because i want to. And others cannot come here just because they want to.

And for the Mexican who has come into this country legally and made it your home – join me. The illegals are not immigrants, they are invaders, individuals, who have broken into YOUR home (the United States), taken your rights & the rights of YOUR children as much as they’ve taken mine.

  • JANET

    Against Arizona’s Anti-Illegal Immigration Law:

“The Obama administration’s lawsuit against Arizona, officially unveiled on Tuesday, is an affront to all law-abiding Americans. It is a threatening salvo aimed at all local, county, or state governments that dare to take control of the immigration chaos in their own backyards. And it is being driven by open-borders extremists who have dedicated their political careers to subverting homeland-security policies in the name of ‘compassion’ and ‘diversity.’ …

“You gotta love Obama’s fair-weather friends of the Constitution. When a state acts to do the job the feds won’t do, Obama’s legal eagles run to the Founding Fathers for protection. When, on the other hand, left-wing cities across the country pass illegal-alien sanctuary policies that flagrantly defy national immigration laws and hamper cross-jurisdiction enforcement, the newfound federal preemption advocates are nowhere in sight.

“The Obama DOJ’s lawsuit against Arizona is sabotage of the people’s will and the government’s fundamental responsibility to provide for the common defense. No border enforcement, no security. No security, no peace.”

    • skycruiser

Janet, You say, “The Obama administration’s lawsuit against Arizona, officially unveiled on Tuesday, is an affront to all law-abiding Americans.” I’d go a step further. Would you agree it’s also treason. According to Article IV, section 4 of our constitution Obama is bound to protect the state NOT allow it to be invaded.

This nation can take any race that comes her legally, but not crimmals and tax cheats and the ideaevery taxpayer, which is mostly of the white race paying the majority of the freight of these illegal mooches and the crimminal tax chears who hire them. USDA can track a damn cow shipped in here from Canada, what sale ring she was sold at, how long she was held at a location ,to what trucker hauled her. We cann’t track all the law breakers, crimminal idoits that foal out here. Since hospitals have records we can get all the off spring gathered and shipped. I LOVE IT! Thanks Palin12, I’m not that computer savvy to be able to post the link. We also have two more great billboards, that I know of. They are located 30-40 miles east of Yuma on I-8, right by Wellton. If you’re heading eastbound you’ll see them. One is a picture of George dub-ya, he’s got a cheesy smile and is waving. The sign says “MISS ME YET”. The second is of Regan, it says ” Remember real HOPE and real CHANGE”. If you travel through keep an eye out, because they aren’t the average billboards that you’ll see.

I noticed that someone mentioned the Sierra Club in this discussion, and it all goes into the same, corrupt pot in the District of Criminals. Back in the 1970s an Arab “trade representative” said that, unless we found massive, new deposits of “domestic” oil, we would be dependent on the Muslim world for energy for at least 30 years, but that their (the Arabs) friends in the “environmentalist movement” would protect the Muslim World from that “problem”: “…because

  • Jim Cumber

…pardon me, my e-mail server screwed up! The last line should read, “…because WE ARE FINANCING THEM…” The Gulf of Mexico “oil spill” has resulted in our “closet Muslim, illegal alien, pseudo-President” issuing a 6 month halt on ALL oil drilling in US coastal waters! Article IV, Section 4 of the US Constitution CERTAINLY applies, but Article III, Section 3 ALSO applies: “Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them [the States], or in adhering to their [the States'] Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort…” I maintain that the present occupant of the White House (a citizen of Indonesia, whose last, legal name change was in Indonesia, to “Barry Soetoro”) should be impeached and tried for Treason, along with the leadership of the Sierra Club and other “environmentalist” organizations! “This Fall, Fire them ALL: Re-elect NOBODY!” Barry, we’ve got your number, so DON’T EVEN THINK ABOUT USING THE EXECUTIVE ORDERS TO CALL OFF THE NOVEMBER ELECTIONS!

    • skycruiser

      Hi Jim,
I cut my post short – re: Article IV, section 4 – not to mention Article III. It did immediately come to mind though, when our false-president stood beside the President of Mexico and denounced Arizona. I wonder what percentage of Americans thought of it – or knew of it.
Actually, I wonder if Obama knew – or cared. What could he have been thinking when he stood before cameras and committed a blatant treasonous act.
This goes beyond breaking his vow to uphold the constitution over and over and over.
Such as – those executive orders. He has the right to give orders to the EXECUTIVE branch of our government – Not to the legislature, not to the people, NOT to make LAW, except at times of ‘crisis’ and then only as long as the crisis lasts. (He’s not the first to overstep those bounds – we should make sure he’s the last)

The US must take much of the blame for its immigrant problem. The US has had a love-hate relationship with illegal aliens from Mexico for over 160 years. Mexicans have come across the border ever since the Mexican-American War (1846-1848) when the US took 45% of Mexican land during the war. From 1850 to 1880, the US welcomed illegal Mexican aliens because we needed cheap labor to build our railroads. During the Mexican Revolution of 1910 tens of thousands of Mexicans crossed the border, and for the most part, they were welcomed because, as usual, they provided lots of cheap labor. During WWI, Mexicans provided labor relief when there was a shortage of labor in the US. During the Great Depression, Mexicans were considered competition for scarce jobs and deported by the hundreds of thousands. During WWII, when the US again had a labor shortage, Mexicans again were welcomed over the border for cheap labor. In fact, the US and Mexican governments agreed to the Bracero Program in which Mexican laborers were allowed into the US, but without labor protections enjoyed by US workers. US businesses loved it for obvious reasons. The program was officially kept until 1964. But because of the love affair US businesses have had with Mexican cheap labor, there has been an unspoken agreement the two governments, US businesses, and undocumented laborers that has encouraged cheap Mexican labor to cross the border since the ending of the Bracero Program.

So there has been a long tradition of the US looking the other way when illegal aliens have come across the border. When US businesses wanted cheap labor, we welcomed them. When they competed for American jobs during bad times, we deported them. This, coupled with a chronically underperforming Mexican economy, and rapidly expanding Mexican population, has created the ongoing immigration debacle that is now perceived as such a threat.

    • meteorlady

Actually Texas, New Mexico and Arizona were originally Spain’s lands. Some were also French. When Mexico looked at these three states they considered them to be waste lands and didn’t want anything to do with them. They preferred instead, California. Now because we have built these “wastelands” into something, they cry that we stole their land.

As for cheap labor, we have laws that allow companies to petition for “x” amount of visas for laborers so why do they feel that they need to go through the back door and hire illegal?

      • stevendm

The war between Texas and Mexico argues that Mexico was willing to fight to keep Texas. At the time of the war between Texas and Mexico, Texas was populated with far more immigrants from the US than Mexicans because the Mexican government had liberalized immigration laws so the immigrants could help control Indian raids. But Mexico had tried to control the influx of US immigrants in the 1830s. In 1830, Mexican President Bustamante prohibited further immigration into Texas by the US. Bustamante also ordered Texas settlers to comply with their federal prohibition against slavery. Texans became disillusioned with the Mexican government and waged war, concluding with the Battle of San Jacinto. Mexico also fought for the other states, but unsuccessfully in the Mexican American War.

US businesses have welcomed cheap Mexican labor for generations; it is a well-known fact. However, I am not arguing in favor of continued immigration, or even amnesty, only that we must accept much of the blame for the current situation. On the contrary, I believe we must act decisively. Mexico has a population of over 100,000,000. Fully one third of Mexico’s population is under 15 years of age — for us, that is a ticking time bomb. Mexico’s past track record of providing jobs for its populace is dismal. It is highly likely that poverty levels will actually worsen from the current levels. So, to me, it doesn’t appear the level of desperation among Mexico’s young will get any better; no, most likely it will get much worse.

I am convinced we will never be able to deport even a significant portion of the illegals that are currently in our country; deportation is expensive and they just keep coming back after deportation. But we must somehow control who comes into our country at the border with Mexico. I foresee eventual construction of a multilayered set of walls. One of the walls will, at least over a significant portion of the border, have its base buried deeply into the ground. Over time, a system of sensors will have to be installed. Yes, very expensive, and whose efficacy is possibly suspect. But deportation is also very expensive and will probably not work. The wall will not get all illegals as they have shown themselves to be extremely resourceful. But perhaps it can significantly stem the tide.

        • http://?? Joe H.

          stevendm,
how expensive is it compared to the costs of supporting them for the rest of their lives?? How expensive is it compared to the costs of them running to the hospital for a hangnail and never paying their bill so we have to make up for it??? I don’t think it’s half as expensive when you figure all the costs to let them stay!!!

steven USA didn’t take the Mexicans land the bought and paid for it after the war. It was a lawless area, just like it is along the border today. The only thing was, Mexicans were always coming over the border and stealing cattle and horses and still involved in white slavery, and killing people, and riding back over in to Mexico, where the law couldn’t touch them. Just same as it is to day, USA cann’t bring back murderers back here because a jury might drop the hammer on them or electicify them. You either are a mexican or just another socialist history rewriter. Another case of when kicking a-s finish the job, like we should have done in the first gulf war, too many woosie idoits calling the shots behind polished desks.

    • stevendm

In 1848, President Polk eagerly sought war with Mexico and the US declared war on Mexico so it could expropriate Mexican territory to fulfill the Manifest Destiny. The U.S. believed it basically had a God-given right to occupy and “civilize” the whole continent. This idea gained favor as more and more Americans settled the western lands.

The US captured more than just the northern territories of Mexico; it also captured northern Mexico, including Mexico City. The Treaty of Guadeloupe Hidalgo was signed February 2, 1848, later to be ratified by both the U.S. and Mexican Congresses. With so much of Mexico occupied by the US invaders, Mexico was in no position to bargain, and agreed under extreme pressure to sell its northern territories for next to nothing.

Before and after the war, border skirmishes were common and both sides participated in murder. The legal system was virtually non-existent during the time leading up to the war and for many years after it.

As far as not being able to murderers back to the US, we have an extradition treaty with Mexico.

      • stevendm

I should have said the legal system along the border with Mexico was virtually non-existent during the time leading up to the war and for many years after it.

        stevendm,
If you had been paying attention to the news as of late, you would know that Mexico will only deport if the U.S. takes the death penalty off the table. so if a man(?) molests and murders some kids, we can’t put him to death if he runs south of the border. This from one of the countries with the worst human rights violations in their prisons!! Tales have come out of forced rapes. murders, sodomy and worse. This is from the guards!!!! Only the middle east could be much worse!!!!

one of the big problems we have with the illegals, the democrats are working hard to get them registered to vote. these people will vote for communism, they are of that mind. i watched sarah palin last nite on bill o’reilly and he threw her a curve ball: what if you were president how are you going to handle 16 million illegals, are you going to send them back? sarah couldn’t answer or didn’t want too. they both agreed it would not be possible to send that many people back. i disagree, we can start shipping them back just like we shipped our troops back from ww2, this time it will be easier they can walk back just like they got here. the last thing we want is to allow these people to vote in this country, if we do, then its goodbye america and hello communism.

    • Claire

chuck b–This is the point I have been trying to make–and I appreciate your post. The politicians do not want to deal with the situation. Are they thinking only of their political future? Votes? I will be truthful–I will not vote for Palin.
Politicians cannot or will not give a straight-up honest answer when they are asked about the illegals and amnesty.
O’Reilly and Palin both agreed it would not be possible to send them back?? I have news for both of them. Where there is a will, there IS a way.

    • john d

So if I get this right the thread started off with a question as to the “real” cost (including any financial benefits from lower costs to consumers who use illegals) and has progressed (digressed?) to jobs being taken and how to remove several million people (excluding of course any children born in the USA).

Real or full cost analysis provides a critical piece of decision making information that can assist both individuals and companies determine not only the costs of production but the entire life-cycle costs such as cradle to grave hazardous waste by-products, employee benefits such as health care and pensions, recycling, retooling, etc.

Including all related costs leads to the overall actual cost of a simple or a complex product.

If one wants to get more Americans back working at real jobs that would allow folks to own their own homes, purchase reasonable products, take a vacation now and then, save up enough money to perhaps put their kids into college or to retire with then here’s my answer -

Stop buying cheap crap from China (ie., no more trips to Wal-Mart)…

      • http://?? Joe H.

        john d,
I suggest you try to find something simple made in the U.S. like a pocket knife. Buck? China. sheffeild? china. Smith and wesson? China! All the big names are now made in China. Try buying a recip saw from Milwaukee tools. All of their tools are made in China now as of this year. Same price but a damn lot lower production price!!! It’s not as easy to buy American as you think!!! Question. Which auto has the most American made parts and is assembled in the U.S.???? Answer me and I’ll tell you tomorrow!!!

          answer: Volkswagon!!!!

  • chuck b

    claire

in the defense of palin, i think o’rielly caught her off guard. that’s a tough question and she may have given the correct answer “politically”. the media fears palin and watch for her to make any kind of controversial statement. if she called for the evacuation of the illegals the msm would have a field day with that one. we have a lot of bleeding heart liberal types that have no common sense when it comes to matters such as this invasion we are facing. they don’t consider the ramifications of allowing these people to vote and that’s exactly what barry is seeking. this will definitely change our country. this may be the change comrade barry is talking about.

    • Claire

chuckb–I agree with what you say, but still, I think most politicians do not want to commit themselves one way or the other regarding the illegals. Jan Brewer is the person that is trying to get something done. Finally, a woman that has the courage to do what is right and look what is happening to her. Holder and cronies have filed a law suit. The average politician out there is probably scared to make a stand on the issue.

      • chuck b

        claire

jan brewer is very courageous in her actions, but stop and think, she is not saying much that is controversial, she only is asking that the federal law be upheld and that the state has a duty to enforce the security of its border. i have not heard her say anything about exporting 20 million mexicans. “who knows how many there are”.
this is the most important issue of our time, the actions of our government on whether to deport these illegals or allow them to stay is going to have an impact on our country. the democrats want the vote to retain their power and the republicans are hiding somewhere. like i said before if they legalize these people to vote its good bye america and most of them know it. i have been listening to the militant mexican orgs. and they know what they are doing. they have been preaching the overthrow of this government for many years and they plan on doing it with shear voting power.

        • Claire

chuck b–At least she is trying to do things correctly. The law that is on the books should be upheld. I have heard the same things that you have, and frankly, I don’t like it. It is horrifying to think this could happen to America. If we get the Democrats out of office, what will the Republicans do about the situation?

  • http://personalliberties.com wayne

i have already made suggestions to my congressman which are good working solutions. one. return our troops from iraq and afghanistan. make more bases along the borders (especially training bases). with military presence along the border and part of their mission would be border guard. the borders would be more secure. also with training post there artillery and mortar fire (practice) would make it less fun to cross the borders, not forgetting the live nightfire training with tracers etc etc. two, instead of throwing money around and having it disappear faster than a david copperfield elephant we could fill the ranks of border patrol and immigration enforcement giving hard working americans good middle class employment while helping the country deplete its unwanted visitors. 3. funding??? give the ones that feel the need to illegaly hire illegals progressive fines until they also delete their supplyof unwanted visitors. final fine removal of business licenses. thank you and no unfortunately i am not running for office.4. fine every state which fails to refuse benefite to anyone without proper immigration papers. 5. drop the anchor baby program immwdiately

  • chuck b

    wayne

hope your congressman pays heed. good suggestions and feasible.

  • Don Allen

I have an idea throw out the illegals and assign the jobs they were doing to the american citizens that think welfare is owed to them.

    • stevendm

They keep coming back after deportation and US businesses keep hiring them under the table because they can make such great profits with such cheap labor. Illegals have no bargaining power and are constantly afraid their US bosses will report them. So they work for far cheaper than a US citizen will work. Even with that, they still make far more than they could where they come from. So, US businesses have to be held accountable for hiring them, and they should be prosecuted if they are caught hiring illegals. If the jobs dry up, they will cease coming here.

$12 billion a year is spent on primary and secondary school educcation for children here illegally-do not speak a word of English!
$3 million a DAY is spent to incarcerate illegal aliens!

The illegal aliens in the U.S. have a crime rate that’s two and a half times that of white non illegel aliens. Their children are going to make a huge additional crime problem in the U.S.!
During the year of 2005 there were 4-10 million illegal aliens that crossed our southern border also as many as 19,500 .illegal aliens from Terrorist countries. Millions of pounds of drugs, cocaine, meth, heroin, and marijuana crossed into the U.S. from the southern Border! (verify at Homeland Security Report; http://tinyurl.com/t9sht)
Nearly one million sex crimes committed by illegal immigrants in the U.S. verify at:http://www.drdsk.com/articleshtml
The total cost is $338.3 billion a year ($338,300,000,000.00)! That would be enough to stimulate the economy for the citizens of this country!
WHY ARE WE LETTING OUR GOVERNMENT GET AWAY WITH THIS?

  • http://www.shatswellsystems.net Michael Shatswell

I don’t get why some people think it would cost us more for anything by sending the illegals back home. I saw an article the other day asking for “fair pay, regardless of citizenship status”(there goes our cheap labor excuse). The illegals, like any person would, send a large portion of their incomes to Mexico, which is why Mexico doesn’t want them home. We are their #2 source of income, behind oil. Freeing up all of those millions of jobs would put Americans back to work. The legal immigrants who are already here can continue to pick our fruit. Recently released prisoners can work in the fields too. noone wants to hire them until they’ve proven themselves, and that would give them an oportunity to do so while helping our economy. The quality of housing would go back up too. Have you compared the older houses to the newer ones? It’s not even a fair comparison. as for no room in the jails for them, we could legalize Marijuana(which was made illegal for racist reasons. Do some research.)and release non violent offenders who are only jailed for posession.

If the illegals wound go home and come back in the right way and we had jobs and this government had a way to tax these people and they weren’t taking from us then we cound understand this. They come here and take our good jobs from our people and thats not right. We need for our government to stop their fool and do what is right for us the american people if they can’t they need to resign and let someone else who’ll do what is right for our country. We need our laws to be just for all not some and and let others do as they please.

Lets not forget the millions of other deadbeats that actually refuse to work, and they are the generations on welfare. It (the welfare system) is taught by the mothers of all of the illegitimate babies to use the system as a means of housing,(section 8) food sources-(food stamps, Wick program, free health care, and clothing, among other things. There are no “husbands”, they are called “single dads” and “single moms” The Mexicans have “anchor babies”, those on welfare have “money makers” Add this cost to what the taxpayer is footing the biil for, and you can probably triple the cost of what they are saying now.

If one enters any country ILLEGALLY, they have broken the law. Mexico is extremely harsh in their treatment of illegals entering their country and think nothing of profiling certain groups in order to make their point. Why should the US be castigated for taking care of its own? Furthermore, if Calderon is such a good president for Mexico, why hasn’t he gotten his murderous mess cleaned up by now? Because he wants the US to do it for him by accepting these bold murdering drug/human traffickers into our nation as bonafide citizens. To he** with Mexico–deport all illegals immediately and without fanfare; I don’t buy Washington’s plea that this is an “impossible task.” They know where the illegals are and refuse to do anything about it. Furthermore, prosecute the businesses who are hiring these illegals.

Why can’t the will of the majority be carried out?

Let us dispense with the “hard working people” jazz. We are NOT judging their charactors. Somewhere along the line, other countries must acknowledge what is ours is NOT YOURS TO COME AND DEMAND. WE CANNOT AFFORD TO SUPPORT THE WORLD AND WE DO NOT WANT TO CHANGE AMERICAN CULTURE TO MEXICAN OR MUSLIM. PERIOD. Since when is STEALING OK? The “rights” of ILLEGAL WHO ARE INVADING AMERICA???? RACIAL PROFILING IS RIDICULOUS. IT IS THE MEXICANS WHO ARE INVADING. AND 98% OF TERRORISTS ARE ISLAMIC. WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE. STOP INVADING. DISCOURAGE INSTEAD ENCOURAGE TERRORISTS. Obama and his administration has forgotten that they are the head of the country of guess what? AMERICA! AMERICA! AMERICA! THE PRESIDENT TAKES AN OATH TO DEFEND AMERICA AGAINST INVADERS AND THEN HIS PARTY GIVES THE INVADING COUNTRY A STANDING OVATION? That spells S-A-B-O-T-A-G-E and
T-R-E-A-S-O-N AND T-R-A-I-T-O-R. Start supporting America. STop supporting policies and bills that are ANTI AMERICAN AND PRO EVERY OTHER COUNTRY IN THE WORLD. When this country is diminished to third world, it will help NO ONE IN THE WORLD. Our strength will be no more. Bring business back to America. STop making America MULTI CULTURAL. IT IS AMERICA. The Federal Government “managing immigration”???SINCE WHEN? You will correct this anti patriotism a lot when you stop hiring communists as professors and putting in office those who refuse to execute the DUTIES OF THE OFFICE. if you want SHARIA LAW, DON’T LET THE DOOR HIT YA ON THE WAY OUT. The whole of America is in an uncontrollable chaos. Rein it in. ILLEGALS: OUT – WHAT IS THE QUESTION?
Legal immigrants: ASSIMILATE OR LEAVE TODAY.

Doc: In what dream are you living? The Obama illusion? Illegals SAVING AMERICA $$$???? They cost more than both wars COMBINED and this is not just for today. FOR THEIR LIFETIME. FIRST: They TAKE
American jobs and it’s not bean picking. Free education which INCLUDES
the necessity to hire as many INTERPRETORS as TEACHERS. Free hospital and health care. All those GOVERNMENT DOCUMENTS IN SPANISH IS NOT FREE. Special Telephone Numbers. Many many many many WELFARE RECIPIENTS with their phony social security numbers. They send so much $$$ to Mexico, it is purported to be a MAJOR INCOME FOR MEXICO in ADDITION TO THE MANY MILLION AMERICA AND ITS ALLIES HAVE PAID ANNUALLY TO MEXICO FOR THEIR DEVELOPMENT FOR MANY YRS. I understand the Plan was to send this $$ for 20 years???? But what has Mexico done with this $$$? Any development…other than AMERICAN COMPANIES WHO HAVE
RELOCATED THERE? I doubt it. ILLEGALS ARE NOT A SAVING FOR AMERICA. THEY ARE BREAKING AMERICA. 10 million. who are they kidding? There is more than 10 million illegals in California ALONE. In New England, far from any Mexican border, one sees SWARMS of them. Not to mention the DISEASES THEY BRING. Most illegals AND immigrants are ILLITERATE.
What a bonus to America! AND ASSIMILATION IS NOT HAPPENING. The high school teacher who brought her students to PROTEST Arizona – taught in a school with 50% DROP OUT and in the LOWEST 10% achievement in America. In Detroit, there were 20+ LANGUAGES PURPORTED TO BE IN ONE SCHOOL! INSANE! When America was most successful, its policies were PRO America, its immigration was orderly and at a controllable level…with a few expectations: speaking English and assimilation.
America was strong and able to help the world. It was a shining star. To corrupt with unassimilated cultures would and will destroy any country in the world. And it is not helping America AT ALL. This is evidence of really really bad management of excellent assets.
