Arizona Passes Tough Anti-immigration Bill

Arizona passes tough anti-immigration billFrustrated by Washington’s apparent inability to deal with the growing immigration crisis, the Arizona State House voted 35-21 to pass Support Our Law Enforcement and the Safe Neighborhood Act in an effort to protect state residents from a wave of illegal immigration.

SB 1070 will make it a state misdemeanor to fail to comply with federal law requiring that foreign nationals register and carry their documents with them. It also requires police officers, if they have a "reasonable suspicion" that someone is an illegal immigrant during a lawful stop, to determine that person’s immigration status and, if necessary, transfer them into federal custody.

The bill furthermore prohibits state and local agencies from adopting "sanctuary" policies that prevent police from inquiring about immigration status.

"[This] is a no-nonsense, common-sense example of a state acting where the federal government is failing," said Dan Stein, president of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR).

However, the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC), has expressed its disappointment with the law, saying it will jeopardize the safety of Arizona communities and result in the racial profiling of Latinos.

USHCC has called on Governor Jan Brewer to veto the bill, something commentators say she is unlikely to do. ADNFCR-1961-ID-19729354-ADNFCR

We hunters have enough problems with PETA, HSUS, et cetera, without having the label you’re trying to hang around our neck added to everything else that they think (emote, actually) is wrong about our sport.             Ted, not that this is a desireable or sane thing to do, but my suppressed .338 Accuracy International with 20X S&B scope works well WAY beyond the range of the drug dealer’s AK’s and RPG’s. If that scenario ever happened, they would just keep falling down with no idea of how or why.

      NOW we’re approaching Fascism…’reasonable suspicion’ is vague enough that cops could stop anybody at all,especially anyone w/ an accent or darker skin. Arizona’s gone way overboard. I remember watching many movies w/ the German police walking down the aisle of a train or bus they had stopped and checking everone’s papers…this is what we’ve come to because we’re afraid of people coming across the border mostly to work? What’s next? Maybe to quell our fear and loathing we could adopt what the rightwing has wrongly said that Obama wanted to do…plant a microchip in all citizens that cops could detect as we walk down the street…if they can’t detect one you get arrested and have to prove your innocence before being realeased. Great idea!!

      Arizona is also going to stop men from gathering on street corners waiting for day labor,under the assumption that they would only be
      ‘illegals’. Now that’s a solution,stop people from looking for work!
      Now I’d like to see you ‘tea partiers’ take your guns and march to the capitol and scream ‘Fascism, Totalitarianism,evil gov’t,unconstitutional’!!!!! What happened to ‘the right to peaceably assemble or just freely exist in our supposedly ‘free country’???

      This sort of increase in restrictions to basic rights that we think only targets certain people doesn’t work…it will come to affect all of us in ways you can’t imagine yet. Talk about a march toward control of the population…

          I agree that thoes on the corners should be tax paying citizens. However if they are questioned people will claim RACIAL PROFILING, as 99.9% are hispanic. So what to do ?? Require that corner workers have a permit. Permits requirement; applicants supply income tax records for the past 2 years along with photos and finger prints when appling for permits. Permits to be worn openly. required to sign in daily at location. Numbers on permits to be electronicly verfied, so that same number not being used at other locations at same time. Use a main bank computor, drones at the site, if name / number pops up at time of sign in, permit pulled until investigated. Creates more jobs and no one needs to be questioned on site . STUPID? YES

They are holding them for ransom in the empty foreclosure home and threatening their families to come up with thousands to free them. The borders are a cest pool of illegal and gang activity and VERY DANGEROUS…the law abiding citizens of Arizona want it to stop and want protection. The Federal Government is in DC, outta sight, outta mind and it’s simply not a priority but for those that live along the borders, it is becoming a violent crime area fueled by the drug cartels and for that, they can’t take chances and have to empower the law enforcement to do their job…it’s gotten that bad

        ABinGA i don,t know were you been living but the cops here set up road blocks on main hy and on county roads and city streets just to check you dr lic and ins card so i think if they are going to screw with the legal citizens don,t get me wrong i don,t like it one bit i don,t drink or use drugs and try not to speed have not had a ticket in over 10 years for any thing but if they stop a illegal most time they just let them go i do not want the cops to pick on anyone but you break the law as per being illegal arrest detain deport

      We need more elected officials like Sherrif Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County, AZ.
      He’s facing an onslaught of leftist opposition using their common tactics of lies and deciet to run him out of office, a postion he takes very seriously. This is one man that believes in the oath he took to uphold the law, and he needs any financial help he can get to beat back the liars and continue to serve Arizona and America. They carry signs that read “Assassinate Arpaio” and they call themselves “human rights activists”. What kind of “human rights activists” publicaly call for the assassination of an elected official-or the assassination of anyone for that matter.
      His office has continued crime suppression operations in accordance with the Constitution of the United States despite the attempts of the White House through the DOJ and DHS to take away his authority to uphold the law. Over the last two years, his office has captured and deported almost 35,000 illegal aliens. The Obama White House wants to put him out of business.
      We need to show our spport for this man, who chooses to uphold the law, and rid our society of those that choose to ignore their outh of office and ignore the law.

        Arizona Immigration Law Passes: SB 1070 Directs Cops To Determine Immigration Status.

        The bill cements the position of Arizona, whose border with Mexico is the most popular point of entry for illegal immigrants into this country, as the state most aggressively using its own laws to fight illegal immigration. In 2006 the state passed a law that would dissolve companies with a pattern of hiring illegal immigrants. Last year it made it a crime for a government worker to give improper benefits to an illegal immigrant.

        Mark Krikorian at the Center for Immigration Studies, a Washington, D.C., think tank that advocates tougher immigration enforcement, said the legislation was a logical extension of the state’s previous enforcement efforts.

        “It makes sense that they would be the first to do it since they’re ground zero for illegal immigration,” he said.

        Krikorian added that he doubted the law would be used much. “Obviously, their prosecutors aren’t going to go out and prosecute every illegal alien,” he said. “It gives police and prosecutors another tool should they need it.”

        In an impassioned debate Tuesday, both sides relied on legal and moral arguments.

        “Illegal immigration brings crime, kidnapping, drugs — drains our government services,” said Rep. John Kavanagh, a Republican. “Nobody can stand on the sidelines and not take part in this battle.”

        Democrats were just as passionate. “This bill, whether we intend it or not, terrorizes the people we profit from,” said Rep. Tom Chabin.

          I’v lived in a small foothill town all my life, where we had very little crime to worry about. Until the illegals came. Now crime is way up, drugs are rampant, our children are not safe, we lock our doors, and the rivers and woods where I used to hike are home to illegals growing “crops”.
          Several hikers have been found shot because they stumbled upon the “farms”.

          We didn’t used to have unsafe neighborhoods, either. Now, the ones invaded and taken over by illegals are crime-pits where elderly folks who lived there have been forced to move out.

          We shouldn’t have to be forced to allow this degrading of our lives by those who come here to “better their lives”. At our expense.

        I sympathize with the plight of illegals as human beings, but they chose to break the law by coming here and are draining the resources of many of our states. They should go home. I suspect that many of the people marching to protest in favor of “immigrant rights” would be nowhere to be seen if the “immigrants” were from Norway, Japan, or Tibet.

        I recently visited a brand new high school with state of the art facilities. The overwhelming number of students could barely speak English and a faculty member revealed that most of the students were “undocumented”. In a state suffering from a budget crisis millions of dollars were spent on this school to educate people from another country while American students suffer in crowded, underfunded schools.

          I remember back in the 70s schools had sign over the doors and exits, both in English and in Spanish, thats when I really knew that something was very wrong. Now I live in a very small town,(home town)and we didn’t lock doors but now we do because a very large work force is latinos. Brought in by contracters That our town hired to build Stores,bridges and other placeswhere jobs were supposed to be of benefit to OUR community. We have all the necessary contracters & workers to do the same jobs, but that wasn’t good enough for some politition. Seems the latinos have over-run everwhere because they work for pennies on the dollar. Which in turn saves the contracters $$$$. By the way the latinos DO NOT SPEAK ENGLISH.

        The legislation is warranted. While illegal immigration has trailed off recently, high profile cases such as the killing of rancher Robert Krentz have raised public awareness. And, according to the Department of Homeland Security, the state has seen a 42 percent increase in the number of illegal immigrants living there between 2000 and 2009.

          I had been hearing from many quarters that the plan is too subject us to ever-more pathogens (from chem-spraying, who knows how else) so that our immune systems become too weak to withstand a big onslaught, and then hit us with something lethal.

          A guy claiming to be from homeland security said that FEMA workers are being trained in dealing with massive respiratory problems. I also heard that anthrax is being prepared for use.

          Having worked in the alternative health industry, I can tell you that respiratory problems are up 70%, food and other allergies are rampant due to GMO and irradiation, water and soil samples have elevated levels of barium, aluminum and other heavy metals which now exceed “normal” ratings by 2,000 – 4,000 times.

          WE ARE BEING POISONED.

          Go ahead and laugh, libs, but you won’t be exempt. How many people do you know who are sick?

The stuff thay use is kin to AGENT ORANGE. And to top it all off the water CO. sends us flyers telling us that the very thing used to purify the water has a chem. in it that causes cancer. The Cancer ASSOC. wanted to do a study in our area to try to find out WHY so many of the people per capata was suffering from cancer, my MOTHER for one died from the cancer as well as 100s more since and before we got the flyers.             the Chemical they were going to spray, if you are accurate, is dioxin. the Railroads have been using it for a long time. remember back in the late 50s and early 60 the rail beds used to catch on fire all the time from the weeds? dioxin kills all weeds and stops it! They said the stuff was harmless, but I can remember seeing monkeys falling out of the trees 15 to 20 hours after they used it in VietNam!!

          Concerned Citizen: I do not want to sound paranoid, but I am glad you noticed this too. We have people in their 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s dying and this has been going on all year. My husband and I have discussed this numerous times. I can remember way back when it was the really elderly that died. Neither one of us got the swine flu shot. We preferred not to, it was “put together” too quick. More research needs to be done plus the fact the FDA needs to get “better” at their job. I don’t trust them. Never have. I do not get any kind of shots. I’ll take my chances. And now the shots given to dogs are under scrutiny. It is carelessness or something else is going on.

      Although I do agree with a need to restrict illegals from coming into this country. I am against any type of a mandatory ID system to prove who we are…ie a national ID card…
      Again.. the government wishes to impose this card on all citizens as a “good-4-you” measure…The truth is it will give the government much more power over us as in health care and any form of purchasing we do…besides the democrats want the illegals in this country long enough to vote… Maybe a mass round-up will occur after November?

        Raggs, I’m with ya about a national ID. I can’t find anything that shows any requirement for ID other than what is in place now.

        The bill, known as SB 1070, makes it a misdemeanor to lack proper immigration paperwork in Arizona. It also requires police officers, if they form a “reasonable suspicion” that someone is an illegal immigrant, to determine the person’s immigration status.

        Currently, officers can inquire about someone’s immigration status only if the person is a suspect in another crime. The bill allows officers to avoid the immigration issue if it would be impractical or hinder another investigation.

      If you actually look at the bill it contains many new fines and penalties for companies that hire illegal immigrants. The piece about asking an individual about the immigration status is only a small part of the bill, but the one that is getting the most attention. If a police officer pulls someone over for a traffic violation, can they not ask that operator for a drivers license, registration and proof of insurance? So now, if that drivers license is not an Arizona license or US license they can now ask for a visa or proof of lawful immigration – NO MATTER WHERE YOU ARE FROM! How is that racial profiling. This is about upholding the immigration laws of the land rather than turning a blind eye, for the safety of Arizona and the legal citizens and residents. The only people that really have a problem are those that are illegal – but then they also have the choice so leave Arizona and go back over the border or choose another state that may be willing to accept their illegal status.

          RAGGS, in the state of Virginia you do have to prove you are a citizen just to have a wlking around picture id. try to get a drivers permit without any of those things and they will give you a list at least 2-3 pages long to get together to obtain a drivers permit.

Without a doubt a “simple” drivers licence will not be enough to prove your a citizen… I have never had to show a birth certificate to obtain a drivers licence just a place of residence.. I’m sure the illegals can do the same…. So the in mindseye of the government this form of ID will not be sufficient enough… In walks in the National ID card…

          I’m sure it will start with profiling but after a few law suits it will widen to everyone as a suspect until proven innocent.

        Let them ask me for my drivers’ license, I will gladly show it to them, or any other id they require. We’ve always had to show the police our id if they ask us. I have nothing to hide. Only the guilty people will have any problems showing id. You can blame this law on the federal government, they haven’t funded the further construction of the barrier, they have not increased funding for the border guards, they aren’t focusing on anything but their socialist health care plan. This law would not be needed if the border states had help from Obama and his regime.

    Amen! I am tired of watching illegals wander up from Mexico and suck up free medical and other handouts the feds hand out and having them vote illegally in our elections. And before someone screams “racist” at me, just know I am fluent in Spanish and work along side legal seasonal workers on a daily basis. They are some of the nicest people I know, and even they look down on illegals. They tell me constantly how it makes it harder for them to get legal work up here because illegals make it a paperwork jungle just to file for state side employment. They also say it ruins it up here for them(legal workers) because it means they are scrutinized with the illegals. We aren’t saying we’re racist with these laws, we are just saying if you want to come over here, fill out the right paperwork, learn English, and be a productive citizen, is that too much to ask?

      You don’t even know that half of it, I am a teacher and until last year I didn’t even realize how bad things are. Our schools have no way of knowing whether a student’s family is here leagally or not. Our school has a 40% hispanic population and about 90% of them recieve free lunch, free breakfast and use up a vast amount of resources, including specialized teachers to help them read and write in English. You would be surprized by the amount of students who come into the school not speaking a word of English. It is incredibly frustrating for the teachers.

    Illegal Immigrants come in all nationalities really. They are NOT just Mexicans. Sure we are lined up with the Mexican border, but LOGIC dictates that the percentage is naturally going to be greater for Mexican illegals from Mexico, but ARIZONA wouldn’t necessarily be profiling just Mexicans. There could be other foreigners that come in through Mexico illegally as well. They could be from any country. Some have even suggested that Arab terrorists came through the Mexican border, since it is wide open. It seems to be more watched now, but many have slipped through the cracks. It just makes sense for Arizona to screen immigrants, to weed out the criminals. A relaxed attitude will only bring disaster again. In the Bible days, people built high walls of stone all around their cities to keep out the enemy. In the middle ages, people had castles with motes and water poured in all around them as a protection. In the 1800′s we had forts with high wooden walls. To leave ourselves wide open with no protection is craziness. To think that all you have to do is be friendly and give people flowers & gifts & have “love-ins”, and they will be nice & compliant, is extremely NAIVE. That is WHY BO’s approach to “Romance our Enemies” in the world will NOT work. It is too NAIVE. We must be in self defense mode for survival.

It’s one of the most horrendous violations of our liberties, as Americans, since Nixon and Watergate! The only thing that stopped that from materializing was J.Edgar Hoovers’ resentment of Nixon not counting on him for Intel on the average American. As far as stopping Illegals, how in the hell are we suppose to find out if a Hispanic person is legal if we can’t ask him for I.D. Thats like making a law against drunk drivers, but oh, you can’t pull them over to check just because they are swerving all over the place and driving irresponsibly. If you think we as Americans profile, go down to Mexico and wander around down there for a while. I did about 15 years ago and got shaked down by La Policia about three times a week for three weeks and had to bribe 12 cops just to leave me alone. And do you know why? just because I was a “gringo” anglo, White stranger. Thats right. And I was there legally staying with A guy named Gorge and his family. So if you have a problem with profiling, make sure you complain to their government too. They’ll tell you to get screwed, but I still encourage you to write them. And while you’re at it write China and Africa and all the middle eastern countries, France, most of Europe and Japan and tell them to quit hustling Americans while they are on military deployment, vacation or whatever. One can only assume that the politicians have had their hands in the pockets of the Big Business cartel for many decades via campaign funding.     More states need to follow Arizona’s example on curbing illegal immigration, especially Texas, New Mexico and California, which also border Mexico. Our nation has seen enough of all the crap we see in Washington with all these soft-hearted politicians heeding to the pleas of human rights organizations and other amnesty groups by granting special privileges to those who have entered the nation illegally on tax payer expense. Illegal is illegal and it does not matter what country they are from – they are out!!!

    If these law-breaking bleeding heart leftist politicians, regardless if they are state or federal, choose to ignore the laws imposed on illegal immigration – they are out, too!!!

    My biggest complaint about Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, whom I had the honor to send off a letter a few years ago and tell him about it (I received a reply from him not long after that), was that we need more people like him – to uphold the law!!!

      We need REFORM on this issue, because it shouldn’t take 10 years to become a citizen. We have friends from Tanzania who finally got their citizenship after 10 years, even though their papers have been in order for years. Decent people too. They just kept waiting. Why?         It depends on how one would define the length of time for people immigrating to the U.S. being granted citizenship. Normally it would take five years once a green card is issued. Current laws on immigration and naturalization stipulates that certain requirements must be met in order to be eligible to obtain a green card. If the immigrant in question has a U.S. sponsor – as in the case of Ellis Island where many immigrants had friends or relatives who were already citizens – they normally do not have to wait long until a green card is issued and are usually citizens within five years. Also, if an immigrant weds a U.S. citizen, that immigrant automatically qualifies.

I believe we need some Laws to protect us from the criminal element, but not force legal immigrants to wait years and years on red tape. They should have laws against someone getting citizenship just because they marry a citizen. They should have to go through proper channels, just like others. My cousin’s son was ripped off by a beautiful blond Russian bride. She left him after only a short time. We think it was because she used him to get over here. Sad, but it happens a lot.

      I tend to agree with you Boo T. I’m originally from New Mexico and know first hand all the problems that illegal immigration causes. Trying to identify them AFTER they have come over and document them is not going to work. There are hundreds of thousands of hispanics in the border states that are born and bred full blooded Americans but they will be stopped and checked just as much if not more. I applaud Arizona for trying to do something but my main question to these states is if you find illegals in our country why aren’t they simply sent back and why can’t the border patrols that are set up along the various state borders allowed to do their job? Every time they do THEY are the ones arrested and sent to jail! If the majority of the illegals really wanted a better life here they would come over legally as many, many have and recently. The main reason they come illegally is because they have illegal operations here , like drug cartels and gangs. Both are very profitable. The best way to handle this problem in my mind is simple, stop them by and means available at the border. How hard is that? Illegal means against the law so treat them as such!

    If the Police in Phx & Tucson and other towns would start asking the right questions to Latinos, the police would be answering calls for loud music, unsafe driving, dangerous dogs & drug dealers, they would fill the jails in one month.
    This is fine until the jails get filled, then what.
    Deporting is too long of a proccess and they will be right back here in a few months. We need to strengthen the boarder patrol in such a manner that we have permanent gaurd stations along the whole length of the boarder. We cdan use our hispanic detainies to build the guard stations. This means night and day survailance and the ability to stop with force the drug runners and not punish the law enforcement personnal for doing thier jobs. Hispanics from south of our boarders are taught our system and know how to rob us and use our laws against us.
    If we stopped giving them money thru our system, they would not bother comming accross the boarder. they know they can get $1300 or more for every kid they have in the U.S. and they don’t even have to work a day for it. They know we as tax payers have to support them.
    Change the laws and they will either have to work or go home.

          Claire, living here in the central valley of California I am seeing firsthand one of the largest areas in the world for growing fruits and veggies become a dustbowl because the feds and the eco-nuts have interfered with the farming industry by shutting off the flow of water to save a small insignificant fish. The feds have decided this fish is more important than the economy and approx. 40,000 jobs. Unemployment in the valley is between 17-18% and farming and agriculture is the valleys primary industry. I realize there are these types of problems throughout the states. You can probably imagine the illegals that are in this area. Fresno has one of the most violent gang problems that can rival any state, latino and mongs. Our sheriff is very proactive and their gang task force does a great job, but, they have to endure budget cuts like every other state or county department. I always keep my 9mm loaded and close at hand because of home invasions. Illinois is going through he same fiscal problems that most of the states are. It’s a cryin’ shame.
          How’s Robin doing? Hope she is improving.

            JeffH–I sure would not be worrying about fish. There comes a time when these issues have to be set aside for the welfare of the American people. The cutbacks on law enforcement here is bad. It will only cause more robberies, etc. which is already happening. The gangs here are not as bad as what you have. The gangs here are quietly busy with drug dealing and dog fights. Every now and then there is a drug bust and a dog fighting bust. Personally there could be a lot more busts in my estimation. I am glad my husband insisted I go to the gun club. At least now I can handle a gun. I hope and pray I never have to use it. But believe me, I will if I have to.
            Robin’s eye is no better but no worse. I take her back to the Univ. of IL on April 30th. I think she can see some, but not totally. My guess would be 50/50 eyesight. Thank you for asking. Robin is precious. Have a good day.

          Claire – I can’t help wonder the logic of these particular layoffs either – They did the same here (NC) with the State Highway Patrol – and frankly I just don’t get it. How about some State office workers – there’s usually at least 5 folks doing one job in these parts – trying to get one to talk with you or acknowledge you when you go into one of these State offices. Everyone is busy talking about the shopping they did or baby showers they can’t seem to be bothered by someone actually needing their services – drives me crazy – I just get really upset at whomever thinks up these ideas. And I’m glad Robin is at least holding her own with the eye. It’s only been a week or so – so I have faith in her ability to heal.

All of them are carrying some kind of unethical garbage in their lives. It is disgusting. I do not think law enforcement, firefighters should be laid off. Tragic situation. They ought to take the lazy people on welfare, put their butts to work cleaning streets, parks, etc. The slugs that are in jail for DUIs should be put to maintenance work. They ought to look at some of the lazy state workers and clean house. This is a fact that has been going on for years. The politicians kids/relatives get “summer jobs” at the various state offices. I think I posted IDOT fired 6 guys for having porn on their computers. At least the supervisor of those guys did what he was supposed to do. Thank God they were not in my son’s department. At least IDOT is busy, with many projects coming up. So hopefully SOME of the stimulous money is being used wisely. We have closed 3 libraries. $300,000.00 of the stimulous money went to a stupid bike trail. We already have several bike trails!! Thousands of bucks spent on new park benches, new “office” decor for county offices, out of county tax money. I could go on and on. The damn fools that ran Illinois state/local government for so many years sure wreaked havoc. But, keep in mind, Chicago gets taken care of first. The rest of the state gets the left-overs. Geez, I am on a rant!

            usmadgirl—I agree with your post. I would like to say that an ID card could be a solution. The microchipping (if this is true) is not necessary. The ID card could possibly make it a lot easier for law enforcement to get the illegals. But then again, there is a possibility the ID cards could be faked, just like drivers licenses back in the 70s and 80s. It is a tough call especially since there are legal illegals and non-legal illegals. Either way it is going to be an infringement on the legal people but I can deal with an ID card providing they do “get” the illegals and send them packing. There has to be a solution. And whatever the solution is there will be a lot of us that will not agree with it. The best thing to do is to round them up, if they don’t have a green card then they leave. Sure, everyone will have to be checked and if people call this racism then so be it. But something HAS to be done.

Gibbons has hired an attorney, who will be working pro-bono, to take on the cause. Right after Obamacare was passed by the dems, I wrote to all my representatives to express my view. Attorney-General Masto was the only one who did not respond. Even Dina Titus, our dem US Rep thanked me for my letter, although she voted for it.

          My mom was born in Sanger. When I was a child, I often visited my grandma in Fresno, and had aunts and uncles who lived there also. It was much different then (as was the rest of the state).

            Not far from there, I’ve played golf there and eaten at the German restaurant on occasion. 20 miles N of Grass Valley and about 3 miles N of a little town called North San Juan, left at the middle fork Yuba river bridge on Moonshine Road, then down about 1/2 mile where the geodesic dome is built. My mother passed in ’94, cancer, and my dad lives in Vallejo now.

Just 100yards before you reach the dome there is a doublewide mobile home on the spot where there used to be a toll bridge that crossed the river with a drive through barn known as Freeman’s Crossing. The barn burnt down around 1986-1987. It was previously remodeled into a vacation spot by a couple of architects that owned it, but they decided to sell as they could never replace the original. Split the property into 3 parcels.

    Lamar Smith is the Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee.

    Outside of the usual articles from Bloggers like myself and other opponents of illegal immigration, here is a very eye-opening correspondence by an insider of the Washington beltway. While others fudge the truth or downright lie or release rancid propaganda to the masses. Here are some bitter truths that this Representative from Texas is availing us of the ugly truth and the calamitous situation sending us into a black bottomless pit of American bankruptcy.

    Rep. Lamar Smith states:

    President Obama and Congressional Democrats have been talking about giving amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants. Tax Day seems like a good time to examine the impact that such a policy would have on your wallet.

    Start with education. Using the average annual American public school elementary and secondary education costs, the Federation for American Immigration Reform has estimated that the total cost of K-12 education for illegal immigrant minors and the U.S.-born children of illegal immigrants is $28.6 billion a year.

    Then there’s health care. If illegal immigrants are covered in the health care bill (there is not a strong verification mechanism to ensure they won’t get benefits), it would increase the bill’s costs between $10-$30 billion. Of course, it won’t matter if illegal immigrants receive amnesty since the new law requires health care coverage for everyone.

    Social Security is another area of great concern. Claims by amnesty advocates that illegal immigration can “save” Social Security are false.

    Last year, the Social Security Administration (SSA) ran the numbers at my request. Here’s what they found: For a single 25-year old male with very low earnings, today’s value of his and his employer’s contributions to the Trust Fund will fall $15,596 short of the value of the Social Security retirement benefits he will eventually receive. A single female will receive $20,936 more in benefits than she pays into Social Security. If the immigrant is married but the sole wage-earner, the couple will eventually drain the Trust Fund by $52,460; if the immigrant is married to another very low earner, the drain on the trust fund will be $39,037. The legalization of one million illegal immigrant couples who work for very low wages would be a $101 billion blow to taxpayers. And amnesty for all illegal immigrants would multiply this figure many times!

    When it comes to taxes, amnesty supporters like to say that illegal immigrants will pay their “fair share” of taxes after being granted amnesty. This is deceptive.

    Low-skilled workers often pay no taxes and receive a check from the Internal Revenue Service in the form of the Earned Income Tax Credit. Putting illegal immigrants on the IRS rolls will actually cost the federal government money.

    Since most illegal immigrants have less than a high school education and have well below average incomes, even those illegal immigrants who pay taxes pay far less in taxes than they (and their families) consume in taxpayer-supported benefits. Robert Rector of the Heritage Foundation found that the average immigrant household headed by an immigrant without a high school degree receives over $19,000 more in total government benefits each year than it pays in federal, state and local taxes!

    But the impact goes far beyond these direct costs.

    There are nearly 16 million Americans out of work, and about 8 million jobs are held by illegal immigrants. By simply enforcing immigration laws already on the books, we could create millions of job opportunities for American citizens and legal immigrants who played by the rules and entered the U.S. the right way.

    Instead, the Obama administration has all but abandoned worksite enforcement efforts. Administrative arrests are down 87 percent; criminal arrests of employees are down 83 percent; criminal arrests of employers are down 73 percent; the number of criminal indictments are down 86 percent; and the number of criminal convictions is down 83 percent since 2008. This insults unemployed and underemployed American workers who need the jobs held by illegal immigrants.

    The hit is on your wallet! Illegal immigrants are a fiscal drain on American taxpayers. And the Obama administration’s policies only make it worse.

    Harry Reid is claiming that the “path to citizenship” for illegal aliens will include that they must learn English. Oh come now Harry, do you think the illegals have any interest in learning English? Not on my block, they don’t! Who is going to teach them English? Are the Feds going to hire government teachers to go through every block and teach them English, whether they like it or not? Are these teachers going to be paid? If so, where does the money come from to pay them? Would Harry be so passionate about amnesty if it was included in the bill that they can’t vote? Hell no, the liberals expect someting in return, namely overwhelming our ballot boxes to insure they remain in power. Send them all home!!

    I support the efforts of the great state of Arizona, to curb their immigration problems, because the federal gov is turning a blind eye to the mess it created. So, why should we allow all illegals to stay in this great nation that was founded on freedom for all?

    We shouldn’t have to, we are shouldering other countries problems they don’t want to deal with. The United States has laws governing the entrance of any foreign national and when they are here longer or here illegaly then it starts becoming a problem. So, why are our states and federal gov spending 338.3 BILLION dollars annually to any person in the US illegaly?

    One and All. this might be a way to solve the “Problems” the Federal government’s created. I’ve been thinking about it, maybe John Edwards was right, there are two Americas. Just not quite in the way he was “suggesting”. Yes, there’s “Rich” America, and yes, there’s “Poor” America. But they are the symptom, not the cause. The two Americas are Rural America and Urban America. In this day and age of modern transportation, communications, and all the various trappings of modern society, borders, I believe, are an anachronism. Now a simple way to become Two Americas is to pare off both coasts, East and West into Left/Right or East/West America, leaving Middle America, well, in the middle. However, I see an even better, more equitable method of division. All population centers of say 500 or 750 thousand or so would become Urban America, and all the rest would become Rural America. The rural areas could raise, grow, manufacture, mine, harvest, fell and et cetera whatever products, goods and services it so desires and has need for. Any goods and services it has in surplus, it could export to Urban america. Of course, Urban America would be free to do the same. All taxation would remain only within the two discreet entities, each unto it’s self. Hmm. Lets see which becomes, and remains, free, and, vice versa.

        Living in CA, I understand why AZ is doing this. It’s not at all difficult to spot who is illegal most of the time, and we’ve got to do something.

        As far a the ID thing, I read that the “immigration reform” Congress is putting together DOES contain a call for a National ID.

        The whole immigration problem has been allowed to go on in order to dishearten and demoralize Americans, as well as cause more chaos and dissent. It’s just more garbage to heap on us in the plan to drive us to revolt.

        Raggs, You misread me. Whither on purpose or not is immaterial, but you misread me nonetheless. Unlike Rome, the two Americas I postulate are two separate entities. Each unto it’s self. If either one has goods and/or services the other one wants they are free to have all the foreign exchange or trade their two separate, sovereign governments allow. If the “Rurals” wish to purchase a foreign good, product or service then they are as free as they wish to do so. As are the “Urbans”. The whole point, my dear Horatio, is to illuminate the glaring fact that the major population centers produce very little in the way of useful commodities, products and services in proportion to their populations, yet consume an inordinately disproportionate amount of everybody else’s.

    PHOENIX — The Arizona House on Monday voted for a provision that would require President Barack Obama to show his birth certificate if he hopes to be on the state’s ballot when he runs for reelection.

    The House voted 31-22 to add the provision to a separate bill. The measure still faces a formal vote.

    It would require U.S. presidential candidates who want to appear on the ballot in Arizona to submit documents proving they meet the constitutional requirements to be president.

    So far, we’ve spent $179,883,065 in humanitarian assistance to Haiti. We’ve sent our military there to help distribute food and water, to help find the missing, and to help rebuild the ravaged nation. But Obama is afraid that we’ll be considered “occupiers”, and so, the United States flag is not to be flown over any US installation in Haiti.

    But the country whose contributions dwarf the rest of the world’s — the United States — has no flag at its main installation near the Port-au-Prince airport.

    The lack of the Stars and Stripes does not sit well with some veterans and servicemembers who say the U.S. government should be proud to fly the flag in Haiti, given the amount of money and manpower the U.S. is donating to help the country recover from the Jan. 12 quake.

    The Obama administration says flying the flag could give Haiti the wrong idea.

    “An international partner”?? This may be an international relief effort — with the United States as usual giving far more than any other country — but that hasn’t kept other countries from flying their flags. France, Germany, and Croatia are all flying their flags, just like every other country. I doubt anyone in Haiti is weeping over the French, German, and Croatian occupations taking place because of it. No one besides Obama is idiotic enough to think that flying our flag means that we’ll be seen as an occupation force. It’s perfectly clear to everyone with a brain that we are in Haiti for one reason alone, and that is to give relief.

    Considering the amount of money, time, and manpower we’ve contributed to the relief effort in Haiti, one would think that Obama would be proud to have our flag flying in Haiti. But Obama isn’t a president who is proud of his country, is he? He’d rather apologize for the United States than take pride in it. We are literally saving lives for no gain of our own in a foreign country, and he’s still apologizing.

    And does this show something more troubling? Apparently, this entire flap started because of some squabble with Prime Minister Bellerive, who didn’t like that we flew a flag over a temporary consular station on the tarmac. So instead of standing his ground, and standing up for his country and the good work it is doing, Obama caved. He has no backbone to stand up to any leader of any foreign country! And this man is supposed to be our Commander in Chief. How is the United States ever going to gain respect if Obama is completely and totally spineless?

    This isn’t smart diplomacy. This is pure idiocy, and it’s shameful. It’s pathetic that the leader of our country would be so ashamed of the country he’s supposed to lead. It’s sad that our president so clearly does not love his country.

    The Truth About the Health Care Bills – Michael Connelly, Ret. Constitutional Attorney

    Well, I have done it! I have read the entire text of proposed House Bill 3200: The Affordable Health Care Choices Act of 2009. I studied it with particular emphasis from my area of expertise, constitutional law. I was frankly concerned that parts of the proposed law that were being discussed might be unconstitutional. What I found was far worse than what I had heard or expected.

    To begin with, much of what has been said about the law and its implications is in fact true, despite what the Democrats and the media are saying. The law does provide for rationing of health care, particularly where senior citizens and other classes of citizens are involved, free health care for illegal immigrants, free abortion services, and probably forced participation in abortions by members of the medical profession.

    The Bill will also eventually force private insurance companies out of business, and put everyone into a government run system. All decisions about personal health care will ultimately be made by federal bureaucrats, and most of them will not be health care professionals. Hospital admissions, payments to physicians, and allocations of necessary medical devices will be strictly controlled by the government.

    However, as scary as all of that is, it just scratches the surface. In fact, I have concluded that this legislation really has no intention of providing affordable health care choices. Instead it is a convenient cover for the most massive transfer of power to the Executive Branch of government that has ever occurred, or even been contemplated If this law or a similar one is adopted, major portions of the Constitution of the United States will effectively have been destroyed.

    The first thing to go will be the masterfully crafted balance of power between the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches of the U.S. Government. The Congress will be transferring to the Obama Administration authority in a number of different areas over the lives of the American people, and the businesses they own.

    The irony is that the Congress doesn’t have any authority to legislate in most of those areas to begin with! I defy anyone to read the text of the U.S. Constitution and find any authority granted to the members of Congress to regulate health care.

    This legislation also provides for access, by the appointees of the Obama administration, of all of your personal healthcare direct violation of the specific provisions of the 4th Amendment to the Constitution information, your personal financial information, and the information of your employer, physician, and hospital. All of this is a protecting against unreasonable searches and seizures. You can also forget about the right to privacy. That will have been legislated into oblivion regardless of what the 3rd and 4th Amendments may provide…

    If you decide not to have healthcare insurance, or if you have private insurance that is not deemed acceptable to the Health Choices Administrator appointed by Obama, there will be a tax imposed on you. It is called a tax instead of a fine because of the intent to avoid application of the due process clause of the 5th Amendment. However, that doesn’t work because since there is nothing in the law that allows you to contest or appeal the imposition of the tax, it is definitely depriving someone of property without the due process of law.

    So, there are three of those pesky amendments that the far left hate so much, out the original ten in the Bill of Rights, that are effectively nullified by this law It doesn’t stop there though.

    The 9th Amendment that provides: The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people;

    The 10th Amendment states: The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are preserved to the States respectively, or to the people. Under the provisions of this piece of Congressional handiwork neither the people nor the states are going to have any rights or powers at all in many areas that once were theirs to control.

    I could write many more pages about this legislation, but I think you get the idea. This is not about health care; it is about seizing power and limiting rights… Article 6 of the Constitution requires the members of both houses of Congress to “be bound by oath or affirmation to support the Constitution.” If I was a member of Congress I would not be able to vote for this legislation or anything like it, without feeling I was violating that sacred oath or affirmation. If I voted for it anyway, I would hope the American people would hold me accountable.

    For those who might doubt the nature of this threat, I suggest they consult the source, the US Constitution, and Bill of Rights. There you can see exactly what we are about to have taken from us.

    If the Federal government would enforce our immigration laws, AZ would not have been backed against the wall and forced to take action. The fact is, the Dems WANT as many illegals here as they can get because when they give them amnesty (No thanks to McCain either) they assume they will have all of their vote and no conservative will be able to vote them out. The only solution at that point will be state sovereignty and another round of secession.

    Granted some people may be asked for their identity when they are legal citizens, but any alien should be carrying ID anyway given the nature of today’s threats against our country. I don’t live in AZ, but I can tell you that even here in SC we are so inundated with illegals that a major factory has had to rehire a third of its force twice in the last 5 years. They pay the fine and re-hire more of the same and seem to just get away with it. If they were severely penalized for hiring illegals, the problem itself would go away….although perhaps not near the border where they are coming in like a firehose. In fact, we have a corrupt sheriff who helps bring them in, and a developer who rents to them, collecting money from the government for doing so.

    Someone said they are “mostly coming over here to work.” Yeah, right. If that is true, and they want to come back and forth into the US for a job, let them do it the right way. GET A LEGAL VISA, and cross over on the highway, then go to work at whaever job they can get. Coming for work is no excuse for coming illegally, and it is even worse for those who are knowingly hiring them. AZ needs to crack down on the employers as well as the millions that come over for the purpose of drug trafficking and other crimes and have no intention of working a legal job.

    The bleeding hearts need to wake up. Perhaps if your own family or business were endangered because of the immigration problem, you would look at it differently.

I called a guy at the local newspaper that did an article on my yard 4 years ago and he said he heard what I heard and nothing since. And he didn’t know any additional information. Very suspicious. It is odd they had that on the 6:00 p.m. news and dropped it like a hot rock. I didn’t even catch the guy’s name that supposedly knew “the truth.” I am going to keep digging.     Police use reasonable suspicion all the time. This is good judgement used as part of policing. Police use it when suspecting DUI, illicit drug use, crime suspects. Arizona police are not going to ID everyone for no good reason.

    Arizona responded to a serious problem because this administration has done nothing to protect our southern border. After 911 and the security delirium it brought, one would think securing our borders would be a given.

    Arizona also has fiscal deficit to address. I can say unequivocally living in Los Angeles that illegal immigration costs local and state government a good sum, money which neither has.
