It’s no secret that Newark, N.J., Mayor Corey Booker is a fan of disarming residents of his community with gun buyback gimmicks wherein the city pays desperate people with gas cards and groceries in return for their legal firearms.

Now, the mayor has begun a scheme to hustle jewelry made from shell casings to fund the buybacks. Booker has teamed up with a company called Jewelry With A Cause to produce steel and brass bracelets made with shell casings and guns seized by Newark police officers.

The company promises of the “Caliber Collection” on its website:

The Caliber Collection is made up of metal from 250 guns and bullet casings seized by the Newark Police Department. The result is a series of pieces that embody the gun’s transformation from a destructive weapon to a powerful symbol of renewal. A portion of the proceeds from each sale is used to fund future Gun Buyback Amnesty programs in Newark. It is our hope that this will be a model that we can roll out in other cities across the nation.

Each of the pieces, which range in price from $150 to $375, is stamped with the city’s name as well as the firearm to which it was related.
