Animal Groups Oppose Mouse Poisoning

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 17 (UPI) — Environmental groups say they oppose a plan to “bomb” mice on an island off the California coast with pesticide in an effort to eradicate them.

Non-native house mice have overrun Southeast Farallon Island 27 miles off the coast of San Francisco, and federal officials want to perform an aerial drop of pesticide pellets potent enough to kill the mice, whose population has grown to “plague-like” proportions, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Monday.

“The goal is to have as healthy an ecosystem as possible, and having mice on the island is not helping maintain a healthy ecosystem,” Bradford Keitt of Island Conservation said.

Island Conservation is working with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to develop an eradication plan.

However, animal welfare groups say they worry the solution could be worse than the problem.

“Our concern is there will be non-targeted species that are affected,” Maggie Sergio of the non-profit advocacy group Wildcare said.

“Anything that eats those poisoned rodents will die of secondary poisoning. The gulls will consume the pellets. Other species of animals will eat the pellets. Also, this stuff will get into the surrounding water.”

Wildcare has circulated a petition that garnered 2,700 signatures from people opposing the aerial bombardment.

Fish and Wildlife officials insist every alternative will be explored in the draft environmental report expected out next spring.

Where is PETA in this incredibly important matter? Don’t the mental and moral giants at PETA know that civilization will rise or fall via this one great issue?
Obviously, the only solution is for PETA members to take all of the mice in question into their homes. There, they can counsel them. They can make them feel like they’re a functional part of the community.
It may be necessary for Global Warming’s High Priest [Al 'bye Tennessee, hello California] Gore to get personally involved. Gore has a red phone connection to God and Gaia. If he can’t help, it won’t be because he didn’t try. Oh, Gore has Washington connections, too.
There may be a problem with mice fecundity, and so it might not be bad idea to consider neutering the mice. And if worst comes to worst, a bailout can be secured from the greenies who are part and parcel of the current administration in Washington. Think positive. Mice are people, too (aren’t they?).

I hope you’re only joking, sc, about PETA. We often hear how more dogs and cats die in PETA’s custody than in any public animal shelter. And on the radio recently, Mark Levin was devastated to hear a caller reporting that PETA used vans to pick up unwanted dogs and cats. But instead of taking them to shelters, the PETA miscreants slaughtered the dogs and cats inside the vans, and tossed them into dumpsters!! Like Mark Levin, most of us are fond of dogs and cats. PETA obviously isn’t. Yet PETA wackos will defend flies and cockroaches, and probably mice, all of which are undesirable nuisances. It’s obvious that the wacko outfit PETA’s compassion is misguided.

Again we see the misguided compassion of animal rights and environmentalist wackos. Although some like caged mice as pets, we know most mice are pests that invade our homes. And why are these wackos so worried about gulls?? Seagulls are noisy, messy, aggressive, and simply nasty birds!! But they are a protected species. E.g., I heard of some college students in Brooklyn who were nabbed and fined for feeding Alka-Seltzer to seagulls.

As for pesticides, what is the real motive for banning them?? It’s obvious the the EPA fails to weigh benefits vs. costs as it’s supposed to. With bedbugs, my understanding is that there was an effective pesticide which nearly made bedbugs extinct. But that pesticide was banned, so bedbugs have made a comeback. And what about mosquitoes and the DDT ban?? It has resulted in the needless deaths of millions in Africa and Asia. Perhaps the animal rights and environmentalist wackos care more about bloodsucking parasites – the most hated bugs in the world – than they care about people????

And what about protected or endangered species – does it make sense?? Think about it. A Vietnamese-American farmer is harassed and punished for accidently running over a kangaroo rat with his tractor. Water supplies are cut off to farmers to protect a little fish species. These are only a few examples of government’s attacks on farmers who supply us with food. We read in the Bible that God will provide our needs and feed us, just as he provides for the birds above. The birds don’t have to worry, so are we God’s people not more important to him than the birds?? Now ask yourself – are we the people more important to the leftists in Washington, animal rights and environmentalist wackos, et al?? LOL!! NO WAY!! LOL!! ….. It’s a pity that we the people take a back seat to so-called endangered species!! Isn’t it about time we elected leaders who will undo all this lunacy?? ….. And just say “NO” to the animal rights and environmentalist wackos!!!!
