Angry Trump Cuts Off Glenfiddich

DUFFTOWN, Scotland, (UPI) —  U.S. billionaire Donald Trump said he will no longer do business with Scotland’s leading distillery after it gave an award to a man he considers “a loser.”

Trump released a statement blasting William Grant and Sons after its Glenfiddich distillery, based in Dufftown, gave its Top Scot of the year award to Michael Forbes — who attempted to block Trump’s $1.2 billion golf resort in Aberdeenshire by refusing to sell his home — The Scotsman reported Friday.

“Michael Forbes is a loser who failed to stop what was just named ‘the golf course of the year’ and which has brought lots of tourism and jobs to Scotland — Scots must be very embarrassed?” Trump said on Twitter.

“To think that a product like Glenfiddich would recognize a man like Michael Forbes, who lives in a property which I have accurately described in the past as a total pigsty; a man who loves the attention he has gotten because of his so-called fight with Donald Trump, would receive an award over someone like Andy Murray, a Scot, Olympic Gold Medal Winner, and the first British man to win a Grand Slam title in 76 years. Glenfiddich should be ashamed of themselves for granting this award to Forbes, just for the sake of publicity,” Trump said in a statement.

Trump said his properties would not serve any William Grant and Sons brands and he called for a boycott of the liquors.

William Grant and Sons said the Top Scot award is decided by a vote from the public, not the company.

“Throughout the award’s 15-year history Glenfiddich and its media partner The Scotsman have always honored the public’s decision and the individual with the most votes has received the accolade,” a spokesman said.
