America: Congress Sucks More Than Nickelback, Carnies And Colonoscopies

It has officially been confirmed that the 112th Congress, which came to a close last week, was the least productive on record.

Despite attempting to make massive gains in eviscerating American liberty with indefinite detention, online spying, Internet control bills and wasteful spending, the recently closed Congress held the lowest number of meetings and passed the fewest bills since The Washington Times began tallying legislative progress with its Futility Index. The latest Congress achieved a Futility Index of 330, according to the newspaper’s calculations; that’s 10 percent worse than the previous most unproductive Congress, the 107th in 2001 and 2002.

Lawmakers blame the lack of cooperation between the Democratic Senate and Republican House for the constant state of legislative gridlock that Americans have come to expect from Congress.

Whatever the cause of the Congressional dysfunction, a new poll from Public Policy Polling (PPP) demonstrates how frustrated a majority of Americans are with their elected representatives on Capitol Hill. PPP found that Congress currently has an approval rating of just 9 percent. Here is a list of things the polling agency determined have a higher approval rating than America’s legislators when respondents were given a choice between the two:

  • Lice, 67 percent : Congress,  17 percent
  • Brussels sprouts, 69 percent : Congress, 23 percent
  • NFL replacement refs, 56 percent : Congress, 29 percent
  • Colonoscopies, 58 percent : Congress, 31 percent
  • Root canals, 56 percent : Congress, 32 percent
  • Used car salesmen, 57 percent : Congress, 32 percent
  • Traffic jams, 56 percent : Congress, 34 percent
  • France, 46 percent : Congress, 37 percent
  • Carnies, 39 percent : Congress, 31 percent
  • Nickelback, 39 percent : Congress, 32 percent
  • Genghis Khan, 41 percent : Congress 37 percent
  • Political pundits, 37 percent: Donald Trump, 44 percent : Congress, 42 percent
  • Cockroaches, 45 percent : Congress, 43 percent

America’s lawmakers, however, did beat some of the choices: Lindsey Lohan (45/41), playground bullies (43/38), telemarketers (45/35), the Kardashians (49/36), John Edwards (45/29), lobbyists (48/30), Fidel Castro (54/32), gonorrhea (53/28), ebola (53/25), communism (57/23), North Korea (61/26) and meth labs (60/21).

Here’s to you, Congress:

“It has officially been confirmed that the 112th Congress, which came to a close last week, was the least productive on record.”

That would be a good thing. They did the least amount of damage and also demonstrated that they are an unnecessary burden on a free and quite productive people.

    • Liberty for All

Amen. Congress doing next to nothing is the best we could have hoped for. The only thing that would have been better would be unding what they have already done, but that was not going to happen.

      • Zed

Ditto. The 112th Congress was the most successful because they did the least damage.
Which reminds me of the old joke: If pro is the opposite of con, then what is the opposite of progress?

    • Sol of Texas

Yes. Considering the mischief they could and would have gotten into it was a twisted relief. Maybe I should thank God for partisanship. The nation is still in serious trouble, though.

Let us see what the obama Administration comes up with for executive orders. Congress may have already given them the power sometime in the past. Executive orders can only be orders to employees of the executive branch of government so they can make no NEW laws.

One possible example is the NFA. All they have to do is have some bureaucrats write some new rules under that power (or the GCA power) to include semi-auto firearms and presto.

UN-productive is a good thing anywhere around BHO!!

  • Harold Olsen

They did the least amount of damage. The one thing they did do, and they’re probably proud of it, was to screw the American people. I’m glad I never voted for a single one of those POS’s

  • Warrior

And a special thanks to dingy harry reid who wouldn’t pass a budget he didn’t like.

  • Vigilant

May the 23% of respondents who view communism favorably rot in Hell.

Speaking of Colonoscopies , Why Women In China Do Not Get Breast Cancer? And there is a connection to Men’s Prostate Cancer too ! The difference between the rate of contracting cancer is amazing between the USA and China !!!!!

When lawmakers are discussing the abrogation of freedom, I say ‘Hooray’ when things come to a halt. Doing nothing is much better than doing harm…

  • steve

and guess what boys and girls! they don’t care what you think. they have immunity. a get out of jail card. free to screw up at your expense. so you keep voting and see if the result changes. not. the government is coming for you . stay tuned.

  • SM

Hey wait a minute. Don’t be so hard on this congress for their lack of action. Just think, that for not passing as much legislation as their previous bunch of crooks they really did us a favor. That is fewer pieces of BAD legislation that we got stuck with. And then their is the monetary side of it, with fewer laws there is less money that they spent.

So think of their “the least productive on record” being a good thing. Remember for the up-coming debates on the budget if the government gets shut down this will be the best spending control possible. The congress, when not in session, is not making mischief. The government when shut down is not spending money! (or at least not as much)

  • Wil

Hey,Nickleback did a few decent tunes. Congress, not so much.

  • r.p.

Thanks Sam, for a refreshingly and entertaining piece of news. Though the 112th may not have been as “productive”, it still passed the NDAA with it’s contested provisions, and approved funding for the “Food Safety Act”; Not to mention it seems that the only legislation they passed were unconstitutional or cronyism. They may have done more damage than we know. P.S: Nickelback is sane, man!
