A Long Train Of Abuses And Usurpations

November 22, 2012 by

In the aftermath of Barack Obama’s re-election, hundreds of thousands of Americans signed online petitions seeking to peacefully secede from the union.

It was a purely symbolic move and the wrong way to go about seceding, but that was not truly their aim. The goal for many of them was simply to express their frustration that the next four years will see more government growth, expanding bureaucracy and a growing regulatory burden, and an understanding that neither party seems to represent their wishes.

Of course, lovers of Big Government and Obama (is that redundant?) quickly chimed in with claims that racism was behind the movement. There were even petitions begun that sought to remove citizenship from those who deigned to exercise their rights under the 1st Amendment.

No doubt the irony that those who petition their government, using a right guaranteed them under the 1st Amendment, should be stripped of their rights for doing so was lost on those starting and signing those citizenship removal petitions.

Americans have suffered under an ever more abusive and ever growing government for many years. The rates of abuse and growth have accelerated exponentially since the 9/11 attacks and the 2008 economic collapse. It has been fueled by both Republicans and Democrats. It spawned the original Tea Party movement (since co-opted by the Republican Party). Secession petitions were just another way of expressing frustration that their voices were not being heard.

On July 6, 1775, the Continental Congress issued a “Declaration of the Causes and Necessities of Taking up Arms,” authored by Thomas Jefferson and John Dickinson. One of Jefferson’s lines was: “Honor, justice, and humanity, forbid us tamely to surrender that freedom which we received from our gallant ancestors, and which our innocent posterity have a right to receive from us. We cannot endure the infamy and guilt of resigning succeeding generations to that wretchedness which inevitably awaits them if we basely entail hereditary bondage on them.”

It is not yet time to take up arms or secede from the union. For as the Declaration of Independence states: “Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is the duty to throw off such Government, and to provide new guards for their future security.”

If the current train of abuses continues unabated, a breaking point will eventually be reached. The political class would do well to heed the growing frustration levels before it is too late.

get these fks out of our governments house and get back to constitution we all were raised up by to become the greatest nation on earth

    • Vicki

An excellent article. Very much along the lines of this one which actually points out the many steps that the founding fathers went thru before the ultimate step of secession. We would do well to heed their description for they were far wiser then we appear to be.

      • BrotherPatriot

        Agreed, Vicki.

Here’s a thinker for you all… With all the information now available to the common man right at the end of his fingertips, just think what Men like them would have done if they had available to them the information that we have to us.

God Bless us all during these troubling times.

      • Howard C

Good article. People will die in this country before those that would be willing to fight get fed up enough to do so.

    • Sam Adams

Article 1 Section 8 says Congress shall have Exclusive Legislature Authority[NOT TO EXCEED 10 Square Miles]. in plain English. They and their Laws have no Authority over you as aResident of your State. This means income tax[not wage tax], gun laws, obamacare, EPA, regulations etc. Ignor their laws, they don,t effect the States private citizens, This is OUR COUNTRY, Not Theirs, have Virtue and morals, Clint Eastwood and Ron Paul.

  • Ted Crawford

I find myself unable to solve this conundrum! While they methods Vicki, and our Founders espouse are clearly the best answer to a situation such as we now face, I don’t feel that America has enough time for them to be effective!
I’m 64, and I believe that even if Obama could be Impeached by the House and removed from office by the Senate. Every Progressive politician, from those states that enjoy the right of re-call, were to be removed from office within the next 6 months, those in my age group would still never live long enough to see our country returned to it’s position in the World!
Our financial condition alone would not permit it! Add to that the fact that we have had virtially NO cohesive Foreign Policy for FOUR years, the resultant World conditions would also prohibit it! However, we would at least be confident that it would return for our Posterity!
If Obama and the other Progressives are allowed to remain in power, even to the Mid-Term Election, No one old enough to have voted on November 6, 2012, will see it’s return, and in fact, I believe that, it will never again have any real influience in World Affairs

    • DaveH

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.
That pretty much sums up our problem. A large portion of the population backs Big Government in murderous meddling with citizens of other countries who have not attacked the United States.
And an equally large portion of the population backs Big Government in the redistribution (theft) of other peoples’ property.
Until the citizens awaken to the reality that murder is still murder even if done by Government, and that theft is still theft even if done by Government, we will continue to have no legs to stand on.
We must work our way back to pure unassailable morality, and that ends in recognizing that people have a natural right to control their own bodies and legally acquired property absent the meddling of other self-interested people.
For those who would like to learn some solid concepts of Liberty:

      • BrotherPatriot

DaveH…so long as we continue to only treat the symptoms America will never recover from her illness. For that is what I believe we are mostly doing in our society.

Just treating the symptoms & not administering a cure.

This is purposeful and done with intent by the “handlers” positioned within humanity. We simply do not hear at all about the Truth. What is that truth? It has everything to do with what I believe is the ROOT level part of the equation. The secret society that is built within the majority of the countries on this Earth that swear alliegance to their cult over all others, including the country they reside in.

So…continue floundering about in ignorance America or begin talking about that which is truely wrong with yourself. You have two very distinct classes of citizens.

The two classes of citizens? They are Us & Them. For that is indeed how “they” think & you can bet your Life I’m right on this one…100%. Now, just think of all the perks for those that are part of the secret society & also think of the extra resistance in indeavors that the common citizen must face if they go up against “their” influence. That is not what America is supposed to be about. I thought we were all supposed to be equal & gifted with inalienable rights by our Creator.

Anyway, you get my drift here.

Here’s some research for you all…
Now I ask, why do our leaders go & worship Molech at the Bohemian Grove…? I hope you all are beginning to see the connections. I’ve been yammering for years to you about it.

        God Bless.

    • Elda

I also believe we have gone to far to turn back if only because the progressives have brain washed enough of the youth that we will not turn it back. They will have to suffer the consequences of their stupidity and their kids will have to figure it out. But the economy, foreign issues, voter fraud and BIG GOVERNMENT in the form of unions and welfare, which I see as one in the same, are all past fixing. I think at this point we must each reconcile within ourselves what we believe because when we leave this world that is all we take with us…..well that and our integrity, if we still have any.

  • http://none ron

The long train of abuses started with the conservative movement after WWII. They scared the daylights out of Eisenhower and really got a foothold when Kennedy lowered taxes on the wealthy from 93% down to 78% because his father did not like paying taxes.
The conservative movement has co-opted almost every president that has held office since that time.
Republican and Democratic presidents alike have been dancing to the tune of the wealthy and elite in this country ever since. Taxes just keep going lower for those at the top and increasing in many sneaky and subtle ways for the middle class.
Now the wealthy and elite do not want to pay any taxes at all nor do they want any regulations in place to control human avarice committed by the wealthy and the elite , which actually creates and has created in the past class warfare against the middle class.
This particular form of class warfare by the wealthy and the elites has been ongoing for over 50 years.
This American pie can only be divided up in just so many ways and when you cut out a disproportionate amount for the people at the top you are inevitably going to create hardship and suffering for the middle class and those left at the bottom who will be fighting for the scraps left by the wealthy and the elites.
In addition to that you now have the wealthy and elites controlling the media and controlling any and all information fed to the public at large.
    This will not end peacefully.

    • Mike

Your comment reads much like the diatribe the 47% use when describing why the have a right to free stuff paid for by others. It has been proven time and again that lower taxes brings prosperity. Ignorant selfish people like you who bash those who are wealthy are also part of the problem.
As Americans, why do they have to pay more % than anyone else. Are you ignorant in thinking they pay NO taxes? Some are corrupt but the top earners pay the majority of taxes. Stop being jealous and fight for equality.
You make a $1, you pay a dime. You make a $1M, you pay $100k. Even the lowest wage earners use the streets, electricity, water and enjoy the security we have that is paid for by TAXES. Get skin in the game or receive none of it, is the only fair thing to do.

      • Smilee

If lower taxes produce prosperity why didn’t the two large Bush Tax Cuts produce prosperity?? It created the biggest recession we had in out lifetimes. When taxes were raised during the Clinton administration that produced prosperity. Conservatives keep on saying that but their actions have proved them wrong, they are lying.

      • Vicki

Smilee offeres proofs by bald assertion:
“If lower taxes produce prosperity why didn’t the two large Bush Tax Cuts produce prosperity??”

They did. Sorry you were not here to see it.

Smilee: “It created the biggest recession we had in out lifetimes.”

Trivial to disprove. You gotta do better than that. At least make your proof by bald assertion vague enough to be plausible.

(Btw the proof that the tax cuts did NOT create the biggest recession is here:

    • Elda

Wealth is not a set thing that can only spread a little way. If you come up with something that others want there will always be money to buy it. Wealth creates excess and it is ONLY with excess that those that CAN’T support themselves are cared for. As a disabled citizen I know that is the wealthy are taken out I will die.

    • Sam Adams

Ron, you are right on. I always looked to blame what generation that loss our country. First I blamed my parents, when they allowed Kennedy to be shot by our govt. Viet Nam protestors are the heroes of my generation because they stood up to the govt murder of our and foreign citizens, many here will disagree. But reading the other day about “Lincoln Unmasked”, and the beginning of the Super State, book by Thomas Dilorenzo, the usurption began centuries ago. The Civil War was the final explosion of the citizens, loseing their Articles of nConfederation, and having it replaced by some central govt Constitution. This eliminated the Free Nation States concept. Article 1, section 8, does state though, Congress has exclusive legislature Authority[NOT TO EXCEED 10 SQUARE MILES] in plain English. So, we legally don,t have much to worry about, their laws DON<T effect the states, only govt employees, and dc citizens. Taxes, obamacare, gun laws, epa, regulations, haveno Authority over residents of the states. So start ignoring them, This is Your Country, Not Theirs, from Clint Eastwood, and Ron Paul.

First, convert all of their fraudulent retirement to SSI.

  • Wayne Leach

“…and increasing in many sneaky and subtle ways for the middle class.” Most definitely, and people should realize that the most subtle and unseen tax is INFLATION, the continual printing and use of fiat money that dilutes that already in existence. It’s like adding water to Kool Aid, weakening the original. Well, the Kool Aid “money” has pretty well lived out its life, and the proverbial “stuff” will hit the fan! And, I think our current administration has turned the fan ON high – with help from members of both parties who are not adhering to their Oath of Office.

  • czman75

It is past time to water the Tree of Liberty! It is time to rid this country of the vermin and rodents that eating it up alive. What the he!! are we waiting for? Find and read the articles about the “FEMA” camps in Jersey, the round up has already started!

  • i&etechie

I lost faith in our election system. don t really like either political party, and the voters have the “whats in it for me” attitude. I am afraid the US spiralling down the drain is permanant. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

  • Dale Hogue

If the President of the United States hides his school grades in locked records, then surely it’s appropriate to ask, “What else is he hiding from us?” If he apparently lies to us about matters that can be easily checked by the least intelligent among us, then what else can we do but believe that he is lying about matters that are more difficult for the average citizen to apprise? For some reason, the President believes that he must treat us as if we are children and he must direct our every action or, at the very least, how we react to all matters that are politically and governmentally elevated to a prominence he demands. It’s easy to be critical of someone who believes he is omnipotent and should not be criticized or questioned by those of us who are mere subjects over whom he has the authority to order about as he wishes. In other words, he is a whimsical nincompoop whose actions and reactions we must quietly endure for another four years. Some of us believe him to be nothing more than a puppet, foisted on us by a wicked puppetmaster who has a very weird sense of what is fair and necessary in regards to appropriate thoughts and actions dictated to us by a schizphrenic democratically controlled government.

  • BrotherPatriot

    Well written, Mr. Livingston.

    God Bless.

  • Daniel from TN

This writer of this article, and those who have posted their thoughts about it, refered to the wisdom of the founding fathers. In their true wisdom those fathers, knowing the conditions which caused them to initiate the Revolutionary War could someday occur again, included a way to resolve the bold abuses of today’s out of control federal government.
The calls for secession from people in all 50 states should now convince the state governments that the time has come to convene another Constitutional Convention. Congress, whether Democrat or Republican controlled, has repeatedly demonstrated it has no intention, or even the desire, to produce the many changes that are now needed in how the federal government conducts its busines. Congress will have no control over what happens during a convention because the states are only legally required to inform Congress they have convened a convention. A convention may be the only way to reign in Congress without bloodshed.
States – The survival of our country is now in your hands. WHAT WILL YOU DO?

    • BrotherPatriot

Agreed…we have to jump the Chain of Command & go directly back to the top and that is the People themselves. We shouldn’t forget that.

As former specwar, I also seeone of the few ways to avoid bloodshed is that it IS up to the states to reign in the current governments attempts to subjugate us to it’s will. It’s will is definitely not the People’s will.

      God Bless.

  • Pammy pooh

I can tell you one thing if you ask anyone who voted for the snake they will denie voting for him, open your Bible to Revelation and see what is going in the world, once we lost prayer in the public schools, we knew thren the world was going in the wrong direction, no one can tell you when the world will end but I can guarantee it is in your lifetime, the snake got away with killing four americans and that was during the elections, and the people still voted the scum of the world back in office. Turn your hearts to Christ so you dont have to live in fear when the government takes over everything. God Bless you and your families we are in for some very trying times

    • Daniel from TN

The people did not put him back in office. The 2012 presidential election was RIGGED and the people know it. Many who voted for obama agree the election was rigged.
This situation, rigged elections, will continue until we return to all paper balloting for public elections AND eliminate early voting, now known to be when the vast majority of voter fraud occurs.

  • rightgunner

Who has the courage to say this, mean it, and stand up to the consequences?

“Honor, justice, and humanity, forbid us tamely to surrender that freedom which we received from our gallant ancestors, and which our innocent posterity have a right to receive from us. We cannot endure the infamy and guilt of resigning succeeding generations to that wretchedness which inevitably awaits them if we basely entail hereditary bondage on them.”

Our current state of indebtedness, if uncorrected, will subject our innocent posterity to hereditary bondage. Our creditor, the Chinese Communists, are over here right now “cherry-picking” our industries. Since they also need girls because of their great shortage of them, our girls and boys will become the victims of our wanton lust for living beyond our means. Everyone who refuses to stop the borrowing immediately is guilty of child abuse of the most terrible kind.

Stop abuse of our children, DO NOT RAISE THE DEBT LIMIT. Begin to live within our means and begin to pay down the debt while allowing our still free people to heal our economy.

    • BrotherPatriot

Thomas Jefferson said it & we seem to have few now days who even understand what he said or meant.

      God Bless.

      • rightgunner

Thanks for your comment. The section you comment on was in quotations because it was taken from the previous statements by Bob Livingston, which were attributed to Jefferson and others. I perhaps could have made the question clearer by attributing the quote again and pointing out that the question referred to the non-quote afterward.

I would still be interested in your and others responses to that, which referred to holding the debt limit constant and pointing out that all who raise it are abusing our children who will likely end up indentured servants to our creditors but have no say in the matter.
