9/11 Ten Years Later: When State Crimes Against Democracy Succeed By David Ray Griffin

This was an attack on democracy — or, as author David Ray Griffin calls it, a state crime against democracy (SCAD) — carried out by and with the assistance of various government officials, operatives and entities.

Griffin, in this his 10th book on 9/11, breaks down the lies and distortions that have been used by those responsible for this crime. He also discusses how and why the media have parroted the official lie and worked to suppress — rather than examine — what really happened that day. Additionally, as 10 years later applies to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq (which he believes are among the reasons behind the attacks in the first place), he examines what those two wars have brought us and why America is still fighting there 10 years later in blatant disregard of the wishes of the majority of Americans (according to polls) who are ready for the wars to end.

Despite attempts (which have thus far been mostly successful) by government and the mainstream media to label the “truth movement” as a bunch of conspiracy-minded kooks, the movement continues to grow. This is evidenced by the growing ranks of professionals who question the official story and have joined “truth organizations.” This is probably surprising and no doubt troubling to those who committed the crimes. These organizations now include:

  • Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth.
  • Consensus911.org.
  • Firefighters for 9/11 Truth.
  • Lawyers for 9/11 Truth.
  • Media Professionals for 9/11 Truth.
  • Medical Professionals for 9/11 Truth.
  • Patriots Question 9/11.
  • Political Leaders for 9/11 Truth.
  • Religious Leaders for 9/11 Truth.
  • Scholars for 9/11 Truth & Justice.
  • Scientists for 9/11 Truth.

Yet despite the best efforts of these groups to bring truth to the lie, conventional wisdom (or perhaps normalcy bias or, as Griffin terms it, American nationalism — which he considers the blinding faith) continues to hold sway over a majority of the country. Yet when one looks objectively at the evidence behind the official story — that Osama bin Laden-led (or inspired) terrorists hijacked four airliners and crashed three of them into buildings in order to bring America to its knees — there is plenty of reason to question it.

While Griffin doesn’t discuss all the holes in the official story, he covers the big ones, beginning with the lie that 9/11 justified the war in Afghanistan.

In fact, the Afghanistan war was being planned as early as the late-1990s. In the mid-1990s, the U.S. government was supporting the Taliban, hoping they would unify the war-torn country enough that an oil and gas pipeline could be run from the Caspian Sea region through Afghanistan and Pakistan to the Indian Ocean. President Bill Clinton finally gave up on the Taliban late in his term.

But the George W. Bush Administration wanted to give the Taliban one more chance. During a four-day meeting in Berlin in July 2001, Bush representatives instructed the Taliban to create a government of “national unity” by sharing power with factions friendly to the United States. A U.S. official reportedly told the Taliban: “Either you accept our offer of a carpet of gold or we bury you under a carpet of bombs.” After the Taliban refused, U.S. officials warned that military action would begin before the snow started falling, by mid-October at the latest.

While bin Laden has been blamed for orchestrating the attacks, the United States has provided no evidence of this beyond the statements of tortured al-Qaida operatives — including Khalid Sheikh Mohammed — who claimed they did so only to make the torture stop. In fact, the Taliban offered several times to turn bin Laden over to the United States or a third-party country if only the U.S. would provide evidence of his complicity. The Bush Administration refused. It’s especially telling that bin Laden was never charged with 9/11 by the U.S. government.

The co-chairs of the 9/11 Commission complained that they weren’t granted access to KSM or other captured al-Qaida operatives in order to take their testimony and, therefore, could not vouch for the testimony’s authenticity.

Do you believe in miracles? If you believe that airliners and the ensuing fires were responsible for the collapse of three New York skyscrapers, you do.

The theory espoused by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) regarding the destruction of the World Trade Center is so profoundly unscientific that it cannot be accepted without endorsing miracles in that it violates the fundamental principles of physics and chemistry. Yet the official line has it that for a brief time “a miracle happened” and known laws of chemistry and physics were suspended.

Griffin points out nine miracles implied by the NIST account of the destruction of Building 7 of the World Trade Center (WTC 7) and the Center’s Twin Towers (WTC 1 and 2).

WTC 7 was a 47-story building that fell at 5:21 p.m. Its first miracle is that it was (according to the official account) the first high-rise building in history to be brought down solely by fire. Many in the truth movement regard WTC 7 as much more important to understand than the collapse of the towers because engineers have no plausible answers as to why it fell.

But Griffin details each of the miracles on each of the buildings and shows the official stories to be complete fabrications.

He also details the questions surrounding the Pentagon attack, first by trying to diffuse a thorny issue sidetracking the truth movement: What really hit the Pentagon; was it AA77 or something else?

The official hijacking story rests almost exclusively on calls supposedly made by passengers and crew — some on personal cellphones (another miracle) and others on seat-back phones — to loved ones and the airlines themselves. Griffin extensively examines whether passengers could have made these calls from their personal phones and how the FBI’s official accounts of these calls have changed.

He discusses the changing narrative about the events and timelines of key figures like Vice President Dick Cheney, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and Transportation Secretary Norman Minetta, among others.

Finally, Griffin explains how he believes the “official story” maintains the accepted narrative despite evidence of its implausibility and how that acceptance has resulted in a growing police state and loss of liberty.

Griffin’s book, published last year, is an excellent starting point for anyone with an open mind ready to look into what really happened on 9/11 and the consequences that have resulted from this SCAD.
