U.S. Military Might Visible On Korean Peninsula
U.S. defense officials say they have shifted a guided missile destroyer in the Pacific to waters off the coast of the Korean peninsula to counter threatening language coming from the North Korean government.
Most analysis note that there is no evidence that North Korea is prepared to strike out at its neighbors to the south or more ambitiously at targets in the U.S. , but if it does the USS Fitzgerald is capable of intercepting and destroying a missile.
South Korea also vowed to strike back at any attack from the North under the orders of President Park Geun-hye.
“As commander-in-chief of the armed forces, I will trust the military’s judgment on abrupt and surprise provocations by North Korea,” she said.
In recent weeks the U.S. sent two F-22 Raptor aircraft as well as B-52 bombers and B-2 stealth bombers to the region as a part of annual training drills with the South.
