Report Faults State, Pentagon, White House

WASHINGTON (UPI) — A U.S. Senate report says the State Department and the Pentagon did not adequately protect the Americans killed in the U.S. Consulate attack in Benghazi, Libya.

The Senate Homeland Security Committee report, “Flashing Red: A Special Report on the Terrorist Attack at Benghazi,” was released Monday following a critical independent State Department-ordered review and expanded the blame for the attack — in which Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other diplomatic employees died — to the Pentagon and White House, The Hill reported.

The bipartisan report has several findings and recommendations in it “that we really believe can help save lives in the future,” committee Chairman Senator Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.), said during a news conference.

He said in the months leading up to the Sept. 11 attack, “there was a rising crescendo of evidence from the U.S. intelligence community and open sources to our government that Benghazi had become dangerous and unstable, and that a significant attack against American personnel there was becoming more and more likely.”

The report said there were “dozens of intelligence reports and acts of violence” in Benghazi indicating that the danger was growing but there also was a “woefully inadequate response by our government officials,” he said.

Even though the State Department relied on local security guard companies and militia, the department “failed to take adequate steps to fill in… security gaps, failed to adequately support security requests from its own personnel in Benghazi,” Lieberman said, “and failed to make the one remaining decision that cries out to me… which was to simply say, we’ve got to close this facility because we can’t protect American personnel in Benghazi.”

The report said the Defense Department failed to have adequate resources in place in the region in the event of a crisis.

“Although [the Pentagon] attempted to quickly mobilize its resources, it did not have assets or personnel close enough to reach Benghazi in a timely fashion,” Lieberman said.

The report also took to task the President Barack Obama Administration for its handling of the attack, finding the White House’s “inconsistent” statements made in the days “unfortunately created some of the confusion and division in our own country about what had happened in Benghazi more than it really should have,” Lieberman said.

Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine), the committee’s ranking Republican, said she agreed with Lieberman that while it was important to maintain a strong U.S. presence around the world, “we have an obligation” to provide American personnel security and “make them as safe as possible.”

“The fact is, that Benghazi was awash with dangerous weapons and extremists,” she said. “And yet the State Department either ignored or responded incompletely to repeated pleas for more security, for more assistance from those on the ground in Libya.”

“Senator Collins and I obviously hope that the report assists the administration and Congress in working together to bring about needed reforms that will help prevent anything like this tragedy in Benghazi from happening again,” Lieberman said. “And that is our way to honor the extraordinary service of Ambassador Stevens and the three others who died that day in Libya, and to make sure, in that sense, that they did not die in vain.”

On Sunday, Obama blamed security “sloppiness” in the deadly attack. Obama told the NBC News program “Meet the Press” he agreed with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s decision to carry out all 29 recommendations made Dec. 18 by an independent review board that was highly critical of the State Department for failing to identify and respond to security risks before the four Americans were killed.

“My message to the State Department has been very simple, and that is we’re going to solve this,” Obama said. “We’re not going to be defensive about it. We’re not going to pretend that this was not a problem. This was a huge problem, and we’re going to implement every single recommendation that’s been put forward.”

Obama said a key review board finding — that the State Department relied too heavily on local Libyan militias to safeguard the compound, leaving diplomats and other U.S. personnel highly vulnerable — was similar to a finding in internal Administration reviews.

“It confirms what we had already seen, based on some of our internal reviews. There was just some sloppiness, not intentional, in terms of how we secure embassies in areas where you essentially don’t have governments that have a lot of capacity to protect those embassies,” Obama said.

Four State Department officials were fired a day after the report was released.

Cliffs: Fiscal And Real

It seems our elected representatives in Washington celebrate the English tradition of Boxing Day. That would explain why Congress took off Dec. 26 before coming back last Thursday, even though the Nation is facing an economic catastrophe.

Like most of you, I was working on Boxing Day and read that President Barack Obama cut short his Hawaii Christmas break to get back to Washington to deal with the impending fiscal cliff.

Monday was the deadline for $600 billion worth of tax hikes and spending cuts.

Economists predict these tax increases and spending cuts could send the U.S. economy back into a recession by the end of next year. Americans will see their January paychecks shrinking as they pay higher taxes that automatically engage unless the George W. Bush tax cuts are extended.

It is expected that the average middle class family will see its tax bill go up by about $2,000 a year.

Regardless of whether Congress was able to cut the mustard before yesterday, a second economic shoe may have already dropped. The United States may have already fallen into a renewed recession. This would make Congress and the President a day late and a trillion dollars short by the time something meaningful is done.

It is already being reported that U.S. holiday retail sales this year were the weakest since 2008. That was the Christmas the Nation was in its deepest recession since the Great Depression.

There is already a litany of excuses as to why retail sales were weak this past Christmas, including bad weather (as if the United States always has good weather in December).

In the final analysis, millions of Americans didn’t spend what they typically do this time of year because they fear that the wheels on the American economy have already slipped over the edge of a very steep precipice.

The Log Jam Of 1983

My Dad, Vern, had a tradition to cut lumber off his acreage at the start of the new year. So it was on Jan. 1, 1983. My best friend, Dave, and I were riding on the wheel covers of Dad’s red Massey Ferguson 35-horsepower tractor, which had a front-end bucket to load logs on after they were cut down with a chain saw.

Men of my generation like to golf or ski, but Dad had been through the Depression and, regardless of any financial success he earned, he was determined to be self-reliant even through his later years. That meant growing a large garden in the summer, canning vegetables in the fall and cutting wood in the winter. He kept a potbellied woodstove in the kitchen and functional fireplace in the living room.

He had 80 acres of land near Chattaroy, Wash. Half of it was on a plateau; that’s where he grew Northwest poplar trees and had a corral for his two horses. The other 40 acres was on a steep slope facing north; it was full of wild ponderosa pine trees.

While he loved the outdoors, my father’s mind typically wandered as he thought about where the economy was headed and, therefore, where his subscribers should invest their money. You can imagine that in cases with machinery and gravity, this could be a hazardous combination.

Besides the gears, the Massey had a high drive and a low drive. We were only in second gear as Dad pointed the tractor toward the steep slope. While I was not nearly as experienced with machinery as Dad was, I had grown up around tractors and I knew we were in high drive as we headed down the steep trail that twisted and turned between the 50-foot high pines.

“Dad,” I shouted over the engine, “we’re going too fast!”

He must have had his mind on the markets. On what was a grade of more than 10 percent, he made a critical error. He forgot the tractor didn’t have a synchromesh transmission. You couldn’t gear it down like it was a sports car. So when he put his left foot on the clutch and tried to shift to low, the 2-ton tractor began to freewheel.

Immediately, we were going dangerously fast, perhaps 20 mph, with Dave and me holding on for our lives.

Dad had the presence of mind to hit the brakes — specifically, the left brake. The Massey had a single brake for each back wheel. That allowed the operator to pivot it. In case of an emergency stop, both brakes should be applied by landing your foot squarely on both of them.

The left rear wheel bit hard, but the right rear wheel continued to spin. The tractor did a sharp pivot. For a moment, I thought it was going to roll.

We got lucky that day. The tractor came to a complete stop. Dad put the gearshift into low, and we slowly continued down the trail to the fallen pines that needed to be culled. A few hours later, the firebox outside the house was full and the fireplace was ablaze.

No Such Happy Ending For America

It would be one thing if America had to endure the fiscal cliff that was presented Monday. But the Nation is so deeply in debt that we face a continuous series of cliffs. The President and Congress are either unable or unwilling to see that the Nation safely navigates this trail. Sooner or later, that means the odds are going to catch up with America, and there is going to be a wreck. In this case, it won’t be just three people; it will be 300 million.

Yours in good times and bad,

Detroit Homicides Up 10 Percent In 2012

DETROIT (UPI) — The number of homicides in Detroit increased by 10 percent in 2012, pushing the murder rate to 53 per 100,000 residents, officials said.

As of Sunday night, there were at least 379 murders in Detroit in 2012, surpassing the 344 tally for 2011, The Detroit News reported.

“This is a problem that just keeps festering,” said retired Detroit Police Detective Dave Bashur. “It’s a sad thing to see.”

Experts say poverty, the drug trade and a violent culture are the main contributing factors to Detroit’s high murder rate.

“The income level of Detroit residents has been dropping precipitously over the years, and that’s an indicator,” said Detroit criminal justice professor Daniel Kennedy. “I can tell you where the more violent parts of the country are going to be by sitting here at my desk and looking at income data; I don’t even have to look at crime data. I can tell you what parts of which city not to go to based just on income.”

Bashur, 62, said he believes Detroit’s murder problem has to do with the lack of jobs for young people.

“Growing up in Detroit, you could find a job. Now, there’s nothing. I used to work at Frank’s Nursery and Crafts on McNichols; now it’s just an empty lot,” he said. “So these kids have to get money somehow; how do they do it? They go into the drug business. But if you go into that business, you have competition. How do you get rid of the competition? Violence.”

Police are set to release the official 2012 homicide tally and other figures on violent crimes in Detroit later this week.

Crime Increasing In America’s Suburbs

Amid an overall national decline in homicides, murders in the suburbs and other areas not traditionally associated with high rates of violent crime are on the rise.

This, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal, is the result of criminals looking for easier targets outside inner-city areas where police presence has increased in recent years.

“They just shifted their operations,” Craig Steckler, president of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, told WSJ.

The report indicates that about 25 percent of all homicides in the United States occur in suburban areas, up from around 20.7 percent in 2001.

According to a Federal Bureau of Justice Statistics study of the most recent data, there was a 16.7 percent drop in homicides in big cities due largely to aggressive police patrols in cities like New York and Los Angeles. But during the same period, homicides rose 16.9 percent in their outlying suburbs.

Gun Sales Soaring

Demand for assault rifles in the United States has increased tremendously as politicians’ knee-jerk reactions to the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School threaten Americans’ right to bear arms.

Last month, Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) announced that she will introduce legislation early in 2013 that will essentially criminalize millions of law-abiding American gun owners. Harsh provisions in her legislation and bills being drafted by other lawmakers have Americans in a mad dash to buy firearms, particularly those deemed “assault rifles.”

“Our phones are ringing every 10 seconds and people are saying, ‘Do you have any assault rifles?’” Dennis Pratte, owner of My Gun Factory in Falls Church, Va., told CNN Money. “They’ve sold out of just about every gun shop nationwide and just about every distributor is out of stock.”

Reports from around the Nation indicate that community gun sellers are experiencing a healthy uptick in business and many online retailers are out of stock on various high capacity magazines, assault rifles and popular ammunition.

A report from the North Carolina based Hickory Record is indicative of what is happening at gun shops throughout the country:

Scott Ledford, who operates Ledford’s Trading Post, said, “We’re getting 20 calls a day looking for AR-15s and AK-47s, SKSs and that kind of thing, and we just don’t carry that.” His shop specializes in antique and collectable weapons, but he said even he has seen an increase in ammunition sales…

…Smitty Smith works at Catawba Valley Tactical Supply in Newton. The store is waiting to receive its Federal Firearms License, so it does not currently sell firearms, but it does sell ammunition. When asked if he had seen an increase in ammunition sales over the past two weeks, Smith laughed and said it wasn’t a matter of an increase in sales, but rather a matter of a total wipeout of supply. “There’s no .223 ammo out there,” he said.

Catawba Valley Tactical Supply had been selling 1,000-round boxes of .223-caliber ammunition for $450, Smith said. His supply has run out and now customers who are able to find .223-caliber rounds are paying at least double what they would have paid two weeks ago. Ellizondo said the price of a 1,000-round box of .223-caliber ammunition at the gun show was around $1,200.

Brownells Inc., a supplier of firearms accessories and gunsmithing tools, said that demand in recent weeks has been so high that at one point the company sold 3.5 years’ worth of stocked ammunition and magazines in a 72-hour period.

Boost Your Health From The Inside Out With Honey

Is honey the ultimate superfood? Based on the numerous health benefits, honey may provide more nutrients, vitamins and minerals than meat, eggs, milk, grains and vegetables. Plus, it contains only about 100 calories per teaspoon.

Unlike refined sugar, honey and other natural sugars — like those found in dates, figs and raisins — are live physiological sugars which contain the germs of life.

According to the Waikato Honey Research Unit, honey is now being accepted as a standard of care in treating skin ulcers as well as wounds and burns. Researchers indicate that applying honey to your skin helps reduce inflammation, swelling and pain; causes offensive odors to vanish; and promotes rapid healing of the skin, often with little scarring. In many cases, honey was more effective in treating infected lesions that were not responding to standard antibiotic and antiseptic therapy.

It’s A Bird, It’s A Plane — No, It’s Super Puffed Rice!

The puffed rice that we’re used to seeing in our breakfast cereals and snack foods now packs a powerful nutritious punch thanks to a new process that not only blows the grains up with air, but adds three times the protein.

Previously, puffed rice was created using hot steam that typically destroys heat-sensitive nutrients. But scientists, including Syed S. H. Rivi and colleagues, used a process that employs supercritical carbon dioxide. In addition to adding three times the protein as the old method, this process allows eight times more dietary fiber, plus calcium, iron, zinc and other nutrients lacking in conventionally puffed rice.

The scientists also claim their puffed rice was crispier than commercial products with a better taste and crunch.

The report, which appeared in the American Chemical Society’s Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, states the new rice is “ideally suited for consumption as breakfast cereals, snack food and as part of nutrition bars for school lunch programs. The balanced nutritional profile and use of staple crop byproducts such as broken rice makes these expanded crisps unique to the marketplace.”

How To Win The War For Your Mind

All battles, all wars, all fistfights and bar brawls, all conflicts in every place and in every time (except those conflicts in which both sides answer to the same puppeteer) begin and end as battles of the mind. No struggle is determined on strength of arms alone.

In fact, the technologically advanced adversary with all his fancy firepower is often more vulnerable than his low-tech counterparts. This fact is, of course, counterintuitive to our Western manner of thinking, which teaches us to believe that the man with the bigger gun (or the bigger predator drone) always wins. Sadly, we have had to suffer through multiple defeats and overdrawn occupations in Asia to learn otherwise. One of the great unspoken truths of our era is the reality that the modernization of warfare has changed little the manner in which wars are won. Since the beginning of history, intelligence, force of will and guiding principles are the dominant factors in any campaign.

Therefore, it only stands to reason that the most vital battle any of us will ever face is the psychological battle; for success in the mind will determine success in all other endeavors.

Unfortunately, very few people ever consider the importance of the mind war, let alone know how to defend themselves against psychological attack. As with any method of self-defense, constant training is required.

For the past century, at least in the United States, a subversive and secret cold war has been waged against the people in the form of psychological subjugation. This cold war is designed to weaken our resolve, our heritage, our self-belief, our confidence and our integrity in preparation for a “hot war” against our time-honored Constitutional rights. The power elite know well that the most effective strategy for victory in any battle is to convince your enemy to surrender before the fight even begins. Today, the American populace is being conditioned to lie down and die a mental death, to give up the inner war, so that when the outer war comes, they will already be defeated.

Corrupt governments rely heavily on what they call “psyops,” which are primarily propaganda initiatives meant to demoralize their target (usually the citizenry). In the case of a despotic regime, psyops involves the insinuation of lies, half-truths, threats and brutality that is choreographed to elicit a very specific response. It is used to instigate strong emotional responses en masse that will work in favor of the oligarchy. The following guidelines can shield you from the arrows of deceit, allowing you to maintain control and avoid being unconsciously influenced to labor against your own cause:

Do Not Fear Hypothetical Dangers

Fear is the weapon of choice when it comes to totalitarian proponents. Conquering armies and bureaucracies are notorious for exaggerating their strength and numbers in order to squelch the fighting spirit of those they intend to rule. Genghis Kahn, for instance, used the tactic of exaggerated numbers, along with vicious genocide, to strike terror in regions he had not yet attempted to overtake. Upon his arrival, the Mongol hordes had received such a reputation (some of it fabricated) that many regions surrendered immediately without question.

When becoming an activist against a criminal establishment, it is very common to be the target of fear campaigns. Today, those of us in the liberty movement hear warnings from “random” concerned parties constantly telling us that our efforts are “all for nothing,” that we are “making ourselves targets.” That the globalist system is far too strong and far too advanced to be defeated.

Their hope is to make us afraid of hypothetical situations which can neither be confirmed nor denied. To undo this tactic, you must remain focused on your objective regardless of the possible danger. That is to say, the strength of the enemy, whether real or fantasy, is irrelevant. It is meaningless. Goliath is nothing but an obstacle, and all obstacles can be dealt with. Move forward toward the objective and never stop.

Do Not Be Distracted By Minor Inconveniences And Personal Problems

At the height of communist power in East Germany, the Stasi secret police deployed a tactic which they called “Zersetzung,” which means to “corrode” or “undermine.” The Zersetzung policy involved the use of subtle manipulations of a particular person’s life in order to interfere with his ability to function normally and participate fully in dissenting activities. The Stasi would send agents to a person’s home to rearrange items or fake a break-in. Often, they would attempt to create emotional conflicts between the dissident and his wife, family and friends and to damage business relationships. The purpose is to force the target to divert his attention from his political and social work to more minor inconveniences.

Personal firestorms are destructive only when you give them too much credence and attention. Some people become utterly obsessed with their own private soap operas, and this weakness is often exploited by government elements.

The truth is, our home lives and the tensions in them are secondary when it comes to defending our principles and our culture against enslavement and oblivion. Woman troubles, family arguments and invasions into our private lives are not important. Only the mission is important; and in the liberty movement, our mission is to awaken the public, disrupt the indoctrination of the masses and, if necessary, physically remove the elites from power. Family and friends who get in the way or are manipulated into getting in the way should be ignored.

Do Not Be Seduced By Gifts

Tyrants love to offer gifts to the populace, especially at the onset of their rise to dominance. It may be the promise of new jobs, better infrastructure, free healthcare, more food, more safety or even free cellphones. The point is to entice citizens with something for nothing, or at least the lie of something for nothing. If a government official (or anyone else for that matter) is pouring gifts into your lap, it is time to become suspicious.

Governments do not “pay” for the gifts you receive. You pay for the gifts you receive either through taxation or inflation. Free goodies should never influence the mind warrior to endear himself to any bureaucratic or corporate entity. Never allow yourself to be bought.

Never Trust The Media Machine; Always Verify Information

There is no such thing as “objective journalism” in the mainstream media anymore. What you see and hear is not the truth but a facsimile of the truth, twisted to benefit the establishment alone. Media outlets today do not investigate events. Instead, they obstruct investigation by promoting only one side of every story and attacking anyone who questions their asserted narrative. The “official version” of any news story is almost always a fabrication that protects the oligarchy from harm.

No one who considers himself an intelligent human being should accept the official narrative at face value. It is important to question always that which we are told and to investigate using independent or original sources. Never allow yourself to be “taught.” Always examine the facts on your own.

Do Not Concern Yourself With Ridicule

Our personal pride is not important. Safeguarding our egos is not important. Trying to please everyone all the time is impossible and also not important. Ridicule is used not only to discredit activists; it is also used to make them question their own resolve. If you cannot be embarrassed or browbeaten, then you cannot be made afraid and you cannot be defeated by mere words.

Accept The Risk Before Confronting The Enemy

I am still amazed by those dissenters and freedom fighters who act as though they are surprised when the potential wrath of the system is directed at them. Did they not understand the risk when entering into the battle? Did they really believe it wouldn’t be all that bad?

In any conflict against a larger and more ruthless opponent, always assume that you will have to go through hell to accomplish anything. Accept that your life will no longer be peaceful or comfortable. Know that you may not survive to see the fruits of your efforts. Realize that you may have to walk through fire and embrace pain. Otherwise, you will remain a pathetic and laughably inadequate fighter in the mind war.

Understand Your Own Weaknesses

Pretending as if you have no weaknesses is the best way to help your enemy. If you are prideful, your overconfidence will be used against you. If you are spiteful, your jealousy will be exploited to distract you. If you are easily angered, your rage will be used to lure you into destroying yourself. Examine yourself as deeply and as thoroughly as you would the enemy. Though it might sound like a cliché, you actually can become far worse an enemy to your own cause than any army your opponent can muster.

Do Not Buy Into Petty Authority

Perhaps it is in our tribal nature, but many people seem to suffer from an insatiable desire for hierarchy and leadership — even if that leadership is based on falsehoods. The ultimate protection against corruption is to become one’s own leader, rather than waiting around for a miraculously infallible overseer to guide the way for you. Relying on others to choose your path for you opens the door to having your right to choose removed from the picture completely.

Petty authority is authority derived from false pretenses, rather than earned respect and recognition. No man, regardless of title or uniform, is above the truth; and he is certainly not more worthwhile than you. If anyone wants to determine whether you go left or right, he should be put to the most stringent tests imaginable. He should have to prove that he has your best interests at heart.

Acknowledge The Power Of Symbolism And Myth

Oligarchs use theater and pageantry to influence the collective unconscious because the human mind gravitates toward rituals that feed our inherent need for myth and symbol. Psychologist Carl Jung often referred to the inborn symbolic processes of the psyche as “archetypes,” which exist in the art, dreams and spiritualism of every society regardless of time, place, religion or culture. Knowing these universal symbols and how we react to them emotionally allows a person to prevent himself from being conditioned or influenced by them.

Not all fantastic events in history are spontaneous. Some are staged as a means to appeal to a particular side of a nation’s collective psyche. These “false flag” actions very often revolve around a symbol that is culturally valued. The construction or destruction of this symbolic edifice, famous person, social mechanism or loved representation of the future leaves a lasting and deep-rooted impression on thousands, if not millions, of people. They become emotionally invested in the event — frantic, fearful or furious — without having the slightest inkling why. In the end, they can be conned into acting in disastrous ways just to appease the inner imbalance. They can be led to war, to enslavement and to death — all on the promise of preventing a myth from appearing or disappearing.

The secret is to explore our inner life with more vigor than we waste on outer fantasy. By discovering our own internal myth and, thus, our own individuality, we make ourselves impervious to false-flag conditioning. Our emotions remain within our control, our biases become non-existent and our fears become irrelevant. The theater of the mind loses its power; and from that point on, we choose our own destinies.

Facing down an adversary with arms or with fists is an easy thing to grasp. Facing down a lie, or an idea meant to destroy one’s mental capacity for resistance, is incredibly complex. When an opponent attempts to play mind games, though, it is a sure sign that he does not have the capacity to thwart you with physical strength alone. The fact that our government and the power structure behind it has so desperately relied on such strategies for so many years shows that they believe they cannot enact centralized authority over our Nation and undo our freedom imperative on the shoulders of military indifference and ignorance. No gun, no matter how big, will get them what they want. So they continue to play the game.

In order to prevail, we must make ourselves immune to the game. We must walk away, separating ourselves from it completely. We must relinquish all unnecessary fear, doubt and hatred and do what we know needs to be done. If we cannot take lordship of our own psychological world, we are doomed to failure in every other fight that envelops us. Without impervious will, we cannot overcome, and we cannot find peace.

Obama Opens Fire

So I went ahead and watched the rotting corpse of Meet the Press this past Sunday morning. While I harbored no delusions about David Gregory suddenly demonstrating the journalistic integrity which apparently joined Tim Russert in the great beyond, I was curious to see how that pale imitation of Russert would guide President Barack Obama through his latest public salvo in the Democrats’ war on the Bill of Rights. What ensued was less an interview and more the sort of thing that airs on Cinemax after midnight. Hollywood freaks don’t fawn over each other the way NBC’s Sunday morning poodle bowed and scraped before Obama.

Obama, who sends his children to the excellent — and well-defended — Sidwell Friends School (as does Gregory), repeated his opposition to the National Rifle Association’s suggestion to place armed security at the schools Obama’s and Gregory’s children pass on their way to the mall. While the NRA owed neither an explanation of recent tragedies with which it had nothing to do nor suggestions as to how to correct the problem of ill-supervised insane people, Obama was quick to denounce their plan: “I am skeptical that the only answer is putting more guns in schools. And I think the vast majority of the American people are skeptical that that somehow is going to solve our problem.”

The idea of scattering firearms randomly throughout the halls of our National cradles of government-dictated “learning” does sound fairly sketchy; after all, one of those union thugs posing as teachers might get ahold of one. And we’ve certainly seen what armed union thugs are liable to do; witness their knife attacks in Michigan last month. But no one has suggested anything of the sort. The NRA merely suggested offering to the students trapped in government schools the same protection that the children of the Democratic elite enjoy at their private schools. Obama twisted the NRA’s idea in order to lead up to his showstopper: “We can’t have a situation in which somebody with severe psychological problems is able to get the kind of high-capacity weapons that this individual in Newtown obtained and gun down our kids.”

As we know, his solution to that problem has nothing to do with “somebody with severe psychological problems” (nor protecting children) and everything to do with so-called “high-capacity weapons.” For further proof, take a gander at the summary of the bill Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), herself a former concealed-carry permit holder, squeezed out last Thursday. The bill stops just short of leaving us to defend ourselves with our kids’ BB guns. The bill promises all manner of pointlessly symbolic gestures involving pistol grips and “military characteristics” without addressing the inadequate supervision of mentally disturbed citizens.

Liberal logic dictates that we ban firearms that frighten liberals in order to protect ourselves from the kind of people who ignore such bans. But Adam Lanza himself was living proof of the lack of such restrictions’ effect — as was Tim McVeigh, who needed no firearm at all. Indeed, Newtown, Conn., occurred despite precisely the sort of gun laws that liberals claim will prevent tragedies like Newtown.

Places that force such draconian measures upon their citizens — Chicago, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. come to mind — also share well-deserved reputations for being slightly better-landscaped versions of the Thunderdome. Actually, they also share long histories of Democratic political hegemony; but I’m sure that’s purely coincidental. Obama and his accomplices now want us to believe that we should all aspire to live in such lofty circumstances. And he actually thinks he has credibility on the issue.

This is the President who willingly and willfully condemned the “Benghazi Four” to a brutal death while he partied in Las Vegas. This is the President who willingly and willfully backed Attorney General Eric Holder when Holder lied his way into criminal and civil contempt of Congress. This is the President whose minions in the Administration and the corporate media brazenly lied about the tragic consequences of Operation Fast and Furious, an over-funded but under-conceived (or not, depending on just how sinister Obama and his minions really are) program ostensibly designed to… cull the herds of wild Mexican beauty queens threatening the safety and stability of Mexican narcoterrorists.

And we’re supposed to give up our best means of defending ourselves because Obama thinks that’s the best plan? If we do, who will protect us from violence? For that matter, who will protect us from Obama?
