Best Quality-Of-Living City Is Vienna

NEW YORK (UPI) — In worldwide quality-of-living rankings by Mercer Human Resource Consulting, Vienna is the best of cities and Baghdad the worst.

Honolulu and San Francisco are the top-ranked cities in the United States for overall quality of living, but European cities dominate the category of best infrastructure, the firm said in a report released Tuesday.

Mercer, headquartered in New York City, conducts the annual survey to help multinational companies compensate employees fairly when placing them in international assignments, the report said, and placed Vienna; Zurich, Switzerland; Auckland, New Zealand; Munich, Germany, and Vancouver, Canada, its top five. Port-au-Prince, Haiti; Bangui, Central African Republic, and Baghdad are at the bottom of the list.

This year’s ranking include a separate list for best urban infrastructure, including quality of electricity supply, water and telephone availability, public transportation and airport service, and is led by Singapore and two German cities, Frankfurt and Munich. Port-au-Prince ranks at the bottom.
