Catholic Bishops Say Biden Doesn’t Have His Facts Straight

During the Vice Presidential debate, Joe Biden said that religious institutions do not have to pay for contraception. The U.S. Conference of Bishops responded with a letter, saying that Biden’s statement was not true.

During the debate with Paul Ryan, Biden said, “With regard to the assault on the Catholic Church, let me make it absolutely clear, No religious institution — Catholic or otherwise, including Catholic social services, Georgetown Hospital, Mercy Hospital, any hospital — none has to either refer contraception, none has to pay for contraception, none has to be a vehicle to get contraception in any insurance policy they provide. That is a fact. That is a fact.”

The U.S. Conferences of Bishops responded: “That is not a fact. The HHS (Health and Human Services) mandate contains a narrow, four-part exemption for certain ‘religious employers.’”

The bishops have been arguing since February that Obamacare forces Catholic institutions to provide contraception to employees by way of health coverage. The issue is being hashed out in over 40 lawsuits across the United States.

    Otila, May I humbly submit my feelings about this subject to you with all due respect?

    I think that sometimes God will give the people what they want rather than what He knows is best for them, especially when the church as a whole has not humbled itself and prayed for God to intervene. I remember quite well, when 1 lady was able to get prayer and bible reading out of school. I was only 12 or 13, sitting around listening to ” good ” christians saying , ” Oh God would never let them take prayer out schools”. He didn’t let them, the church as a whole let it happen.
    I remember Row v Wade, the church said the same thing. He didn’t let it happen, the chuch let it happen. As a result, 56,000,000 inocent, helpless babies have been sacrificed to the gods of perverted sex and lust and inconveniance. These are only 2 examples, there are too many more to mention here.
    We as christians were commissioned by God to bring about His will on earth as His will is in Heaven, but instead we have dropped the ball and look what is happening to America.

    It is now legal to pray and read the bible in Russian schools. Why, you might ask? I believe the Russian church has suffered from the cruel minds of Godless tyrannical leaders for so long, and enslaved in bondage, that they finally cried out to God for so long, that God said ,”maybe it will stck this time.

    Is ths same Godless tyranny going to be America soon? I pray with all due diligence that it doesn’t.

      Hi Tim, Our Bible is an old one that was handed down through the family. It may take a while to find the New International Version. It will be interesting to read.

    Oh, it goes a lot deeper than Motormouth Joe not ‘getting it.’ I’m glad to see a group finally call Motormouth Joe to task for his incessant mouth-flapping.
    If utopians could get together and have functional standards for each other, Motormouth Joe wouldn’t be in Washington. Then again, it seems as though to be a utopian, the first order of business demands that you NEVER have standards for your friends or your political ‘Gods.’

    JimH, I respect your opinion, that’s what America is all about. I have very many translations of the bible. Did you happen to read it? If not,why not? As I said it is somewhat humorous. As for me and G-D or, God as you prefer, is concerned, I don’t think He will squish me or you like a bug for using one spelling of Him or the other. Some are still stuck in some traditions. I meant no harm, and I’m very sure He, G-D or God loves us both. Don’t you think? What I was trying to say was that the NIV translation just knocks this subject of “Left” and “Right” right out of the ball park. It can’t get any more direct and plain than that, about what He, G-D or God, one and the same, has to say about it. The NIV translation just happens to say it, in my opinion, to the point that no one can miss how He see’s it.

    Even if some of you don’t beleive that ther is a G-D,this is kind of funny but is so true. If anyone would care to read what it say’s in Ecclesiastes 10: 2&3 in the New International Version of the Bible, it cleary show’s how G-D views those who are inclined to be “Leftists” and those who are inclined to be on the “right”. Be brave and check it out, I mean, it won’t hurt. Even if you aren’t “religious” you still might get a chuckle out of it,

    The Bill of Rights is about individual rights, not an organizations rights.
    A Catholic(or member of any other religion) who owns a company that includes health insurance has the right under the Constitution not to have to do something that goes against their religion.(even if Biden and Obama believe otherwise) Costitution trumps whoever holds office for now.
    This so-called exemtions for certain instituions is a sham.
    It all violates !rst Amendment rights.

Our government no longer has ANYTHING to do with the constitution!!! We are no longer The United States of America, guided by our constitution!       Do you think that an employee has a right, with their Doctor, to make their own medical decisions? Or do you think that their employer has the right to interfere?

        Hi tlgeer, There is something in the Bill of Rights about religious freedom. Nothing about forcing people against their religious belief to provide anyone with contraception.
        There isn’t any employer trying to over ride a doctor or their patient. They are just saying they aren’t going to provide something that goes against their “protected” religious belief. You can still pay for it yourself.
        Do you have any religious belief you feel strongly about?
        If you do, think about a government mandate infringing on it and try to empathize.
        No one is saying you “can’t” get contracection, they’re just not paying for or providing it.
        I do believe a doctor and patient have a right to make thier own medical decision. I also believe that said employee has “no” right to infringe on their employers religious beliefs.
        If someones employer isn’t providing all your needs in compensation for your work, you weren’t sold into slavery. Find an employer who does provide your insurance needs.

    That Biden statement about contraceptives is a classic example of misinformation that is spouted during campaign rhetoric, debates, and media spin. Personally, I think there ought to be a Fact Checker icon that appears on TV screens shortly after any ‘lie’ is stated during presidential candidate debates. Nothing dramatic, just some prominent flag that corrects the lie–something similar to an instant “Campaign Rhetoric Snopes-check.” I think that is what is needed more than talking heads analyses, as too much misinformation is mouthed that uninformed voters apparently ‘buy’ into as ‘gospel’ truth. What a shame!

    The only way the Catholic church, or any other employer, for that matter, is being forced to pay for contraceptives is if they supply employer paid insurance, or pick up part of the employee’s insurance payment. Then, whether they approve of contraceptives or not, they ARE providing money to supply them to someone. Also, why should the man you work for be able to tell you whether or not you can use contraception? The Catholic church, and a number of other groups, see contraception of any sort for any reason as being against God’s will. Of course, most of these same people have no problems whatsoever in taking high power antibiotics any time they feel sick, needed or not.

They are saying that they do do wish to participate in something they abhor and find to be evil! People are allowed to sin but others should NOT be forced to participate in that sin!!! There is a price for sin and someday we will ALL be called upon to answer for our own actions!!!

      I agree. And there are religious groups that consider things like antibiotics unnatural.

      The plain, and simple, answer is that they shouldn’t. And birth control pills are not only used to prevent conception. They are used for other reasons. I was prescribed them to help shrink a cyst in my breast. Was I supposed to ask my employer if they would approve of this? It had nothing to do with my employer, and had everything to do with myself and my Doctor.

This ridiculous ($10/month) argument has been designed by the Left to take your eye off the ball – these death panels will not be paying for your heart work or breast cancer. Life or death matters make those contraceptive costs a little moot, don’t you think???????
