Dismal Winter Gas Prices May Be Coming

Gas prices on the West Coast hit record-breaking highs on Monday, averaging nearly $4.67 in much of California.

Breaking records set in 2008, the recent surge in gasoline prices has been attributed to a series of pipeline and refinery problems that are slowing fuel production.

Prices throughout the rest of the United States have also reached historic highs for this time of year at about $3.82 per gallon as of Monday. Usually, October means falling gas prices throughout the Nation. Although prices tapered off in 30 States, they went up in 16 others. The most drastic increase has been in California where motorists have seen the price of gas jump an average of 50 cents since Oct. 1. In some parts of that State, gas costs more than $6 a gallon.

Some analysts predict that prices will continue to rise in coming weeks, meaning that some voters could have to stop for some more-than-$4-a-gallon gas on the way to the polls in November.

Conservative commentator Mike Huckabee slammed the mainstream media yesterday, saying news coverage has not paid nearly as much lip service to the rising gas prices under President Barack Obama as it did under the George Bush Administration.

“When George Bush was president, we heard about gas prices every time,” Huckabee said on FOX News’ Fox & Friends. “And they would take cameras to the pumps and have someone almost tearfully explaining that they were paying almost two dollars and fifty cents a gallon. It’s amazing how quiet the media has been when gas prices are double what they were when President Obama took office. They’re the highest in the country’s history.”

    Yes..we grumbled and griped during the Bush Administration of the high rise in gas prices. But there is one thing that is not being looked at here,…how much time passed…during the Bush years and the Obama reign. The steady rise in the prices over all those years has done this…. We the people …after so many years, just accept that there is nothing we can do and become passive. We go to the tanks do our sighs, shake our heads, go in the station, pay for our gas and move on to do the best mileage we can with the shortest amount of trips possible to save our high priced gas.

    “Some analysts predict….” Well some others predict otherwise. Some people just wait to see what happens rather than listen to the “experts.” It was in the spring of ’11 that gas was predicted to rise to $5 by summer- never happened. How many times have the fatalists predicted bad outcomes never to have them come to fruition? Gas here in SC has been going down again lately. Why are there never any good news stories on PLD? I guess it’s just to make sure people stay riled up.

      Gas has remained about $3.62 here in Colorado for over a year.Negativity sells right along with fear.

        Hi eddie, Count your blessings, here in Chicagoland prices have been all over the map.
        In the area I’m in you can go to the other side of town and find a thirty cents a gallon difference in price. In a day the price can jump thirty cents and drop just as fast 2 days later.
        It’s worth while to pay attention in our area.

    We have more oil in the U.S. then the entire middle east, we should be building refineries and drilling and exporting instead of being black mailed by those who hate America. The Keystone Pipeline would have created jobs and kept oil prices lower but, obozo has to pay back for his education paid for by arab benifactor’s. Will destroy America for his islamist religion and friends, he has to go.

      Get the feds out of it period. They have done nothing but strangle this nation, destroy our industry, destroy our education systems.

      and to hear them spout poetic about the wild caribu that would be bothered by a pipe thru some god forsaken tundra in the middle of nowhere alaska, i think we can glean a bit about the people of alaska which are some hard core people, would all appreciate a nice big check in the mail from their states oil drilling, over some inconvienced caribu.

      maybe i am wrong on that but i would be willing to let the people of alaska decide that for themselves.

        I read some time ago, and you won’t hear it from an environmentalist, that the caribou LOVE the nice warm pipeline and have actually increased their population as a result of it.

    The above article forgot to mention that a barrel of crude oil went from $20 to over $80 when Bush was President and a gallon of gas sold for $4.11 for a while.Then again others say a President has no more control over gas prices than he does jobs.I wonder if this is just part of an anti Obama conspiracy??

      The price of oil goes up with the printing of money. That would make it the Federal Reserve’s fault.

      Bush tried several times to open drilling in ANWR Alaska, but congress blocked it. When oil hit its peak of $147/barrel, Bush ended the executive department ban on offshore drilling. This seemed to have popped the bubble – oil prices started dropping like crazy right after that. Also, I’ve heard that Bush approved more oil leases than Obama.

      June 10, 2008 – Oil was $135/barrel – Obama said higher gas prices are OK, He just didn’t like them to rise so fast.

      jopa just how dense are you. I never said the president can control the price of gas (although he can have some influence on it with his energy policy) I said Bush was raked over the coals for the price of gas and obama gets a free ride. It doesn’t matter what influence he does or does not have obama should be catching the same hell over the high price of gas that Bush did.

        I just finished reading Michael Crighton’s “State of Fear.” Although it’s a work of fiction, it’s semi non-fictional as he uses published stats and figures from the scientists themselves.

        The chicanery that goes on in the world of the greens is unbelievable. And it’s all calculated to perpetuate a state of fear amongst the people that’s entirely unwarranted. Highly recommended reading, if you have a chance.

    California fools, welcome to the road of Dr. Chu’s preferred price of gas. In case most of you have forgot, Chu is the Energy Secretary and stated that he would love to see the price of gas $8.00/gal. I honestly wonder how much enjoyment the California Utopians are pumping and paying for now? The best for them is yet to come. . .

      With gas prices high, the times of the bigger vehicles may be over, so people will deliberately be forced to buying small vehicles, but no matter there will not be anyplace to go. But to the city planners it is a boon because instead of suburban sprawls the populace will concentrate in high rise apartments and much easier to control.

    Well let’s see does this mean we need to get the prices down on cars with alternative fuels on the fast track. Or are we going to continue to put our heads in the sand because the oil producing countries and oil barrons in this country want to shaft us all. Make alcohol run cars at least one per family and get gasoline out of our lives part time. You can make ethanyol from trash and this country certainly has plenty of that. So get to it..

        Jim, they and the government are already doing it. The 10% ethanol added to gasoline (1) costs more to produce than what it can be sold for, so the taxpayers pick up the tab on subsidies to the industry, and (2) mileage-wise, it’s about only 33% efficient compared with pure gasoline.

        Plus, ethanol’s hell on 2- and 4-cycle engines.

        Hi Vigilant, My driver ed teacher used to say gas and alcohol don’t mix.
        I think he meant don’t drive drunk, but it now means more.
        The ethanol dream is a big disapointment to many and others are in denial.

      10/9/12, Easier said than done. Ethanol is like making moonshine; you need a lot of corn to make a few gallons. What’s worse, who burns their food supply other than us? You then drive up the cost of other products made or derived from corn.

        Hold on a minute Steve — I doubt half the existing votes in California are what was voted. They have screwed up the voting to the point NO ONE votes for anything the power s that be don’t want to pass (that’s the neat thing about electronic ballots). By the time we found out what was going on it had already gone too far and we are toast (we being people who want a constitutional government). I doubt we will EVER get back to what we used to have before the Liberals took over.

    If O’bama had supported the pipeline he would have some leverage on this topic. At the debate Romney made it clear that the only new oil drilling of any significance was on private land. Obama made it off limits to drill elswhere. Any new oil production is not a result of Obama’s policy. This hurts the middle and lower working class most obviously.

    In northernwest Indiana, the BP refinery is employing 5,000 pipefitters during renovations. There is an even bigger renovation that is about to begin at the Exxon/Mobil refinery in Romeoville, Illinois shortly. Tell those “union” pipefitters about evil oil.
