Suit Decries Lack Of Dental Floss In Jail

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., (UPI) – A Florida man jailed on a robbery charge is suing the Palm Beach County sheriff in federal court, alleging a lack of dental floss is a violation of his rights.
The federal court lawsuit, filed by Palm Beach County Jail inmate Joel Flores, 22, against Sheriff Ric Bradshaw, alleges the lack of dental floss availability in the jail is causing Flores ”oral abscesses, pain, discomfort, tooth decay(loss), and could contribute to endocarditis,” the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported Thursday.
The handwritten complaint, filed Monday, says endocarditis is a condition that can lead to infection and death.
“Palm Beach County Jail Administration does not provide dental floss to inmates through property or the commissary, making it completely impossible to obtain and use as directed by the American Dental Association,” Flores wrote.
