Man Claims He Got Parking Ticket For Having Romney Sticker

A man in Atlanta claims he received a parking ticket after an officer noticed the Mitt Romney sticker on his car. The driver admits to having parked illegally, but it was what he claims to have heard the officer say that made him furious.

“I overheard her say that, when she saw the sticker on the back of my car, the Mitt Romney sticker, ‘Well you have a Romney sticker. I’m definitely going to give you a ticket now,’” the motorist recalled. “It sounded like she was almost insulted by the fact that I had a Mitt Romney sticker on the back of my car.”

Georgia Republican Party Chairwoman Sue Everhart responded to the allegations: “I am just amazed that this happened in this city. And I know that this is not what Mayor [Kasim] Reed would like to see his employees do. It reflects on the whole city.”

Eric Gray, a spokesperson for the Georgia Democratic Party, said the incident needs to be investigated before any further action is taken.

“We shouldn’t be casting stones and trying to throw people under the bus,” Gray said. “This guy shouldn’t be targeted because of his bumper sticker. But we also shouldn’t target people’s jobs based upon conjecture or what we’re not certain about. Someone should investigate it. Let’s see what happens. Let’s let it play out.”

    To Vigilant: you can bet your “gub-ment” check that cars with Romney stickers got ticketed that day. Where I used to live they run the show. City fathers mayor all are Black. We moved to get away from taxes constantly going up because of mismanagement and turmoil and infighting.

    Atlanta is ground center for the “new south” which is a city that in trying to overcome white guilt has let it totally become a black city. They have no guilt just as racist as they want to be. They are in charge and most people are subject now to the dictorial control of the left. Sad but Atlanta has become now on par with Memphis and Birmimgham. Both are failing in all their infrastructures with failing schools and city budgets shot to H____! Birmingham is now in bankruptcy. But somebody had to pay the bill and not many taxpayers living in these inner cities now. Perfect example of what whole country will look like if BHO gets re-elected. Vote Romney/Ryan.

    The officer when seeing the illegal parking should have excercised more common sense. Issue the citation and keep the mouth shut. His job is to enforce not conjectue.

    Was his the only car parked illegally? Did she ticket the other illegally parked cars? In the end it comes down to this. If you don’t break the law, you don’t have legal entanglements with the law.

      What makes you think it doesn’t matter? A professional that takes their job serious should never let their personal opinions affect the job they are paid to do. The comment was wrong and had nothing to do with the ticket. That is racial profiling plain and simple . I think Romney supporters should be filming and recording for their protection until after this election.

      No, NOT end of story. He parked illegally, so he should pay the ticket. The officer (allegedly) also broke the law (yes, the officer’s comments, if true, show that he intentionally enforced the law in a discriminatory manner). He must be investigated and punished according to the law, regardless of how the traffic ticket issue is resolved.

    I live in the ATL area and have seen this happen too many times. It has happened to me at airport for picking up travelers at the curb when I noticed a car being parked in front that were black were allowed to stay longer. I ask the black officer why he is allowing the car stay longer and he said I could write you a ticket.

    Regardless of what the ticketing officer said, the car owner clearly states that he knew he parked illegally and deserved to get a ticket. Everything after that is B.S. and doesn’t matter unless people who were legally parked were being ticketed.

    Remember a few years ago a black man was shot in Atlanta. He claimed it was a racial shooting. Funny thing, the two police officers that shot him were black, the police chief was black, the DA was black and the mayor was black. The victim was right, Atlanta is a racist city.

    atlanta police department in 2007 had 57 % majority over whites by now it’s most likely a good deal more !! so the chances the officer was black is pretty good . no matter what color the officer was he or she should not have made the comment !!!!

        Your head’s in the sand. Willing to bet the officer is not caucasian. Not that white’s don’t do this too. Fact he was illegally parked is not the issue. It was what caused the officer to issue the ticket rather than issue a warning for example. Is that issue sufficiently framed for you or will you forget the facts as most libs are prone to?

        I hear lots of people wondering about the officer’s race, but so far nobody has asked about the race of the guy who got the ticket.

        Why does it matter? … Ask yourself.

        Btw, there are 2 separate issues here. One, the illegal parking: the guy should pay his ticket. Two, the unacceptable (possibly criminal) actions of the cop: this should NOT be let go, it is NOT “no big deal.” It must be investigated and dealt with. Of course, it will simply mean that cops go on doing it but they won’t say it to their victim. Even that would be some improvement.

      Although that may be true Glen it really doesn’t matter if Atlanta is 100% black or white and this is another poke in the eye racial issue being brought up. In the old days a black man didn’t even have to have a political sticker on his car to be stopped and ticketed. I heard (not witnessed) a claim that a black man was stopped and the officer couldn’t find anything wrong. Instead of admitting his error he went back and busted a tail light and then issued the summons for that infraction. That Romney comment may have been uncalled for but is a minor issue and is much to do about nothing.

      tension..This motorist knowing very well he or she was illegally paeked and was issued with parking ticket as a result.
      He or she cannot blame nobody but rather come out with some bizzar fabricated allegation to cerate attention for him /her self..
      The ticket must be paid and the false political allegation be dismissed and burried at right

      they are not pulled over because they are black, they are pulled over for breaking a traffic law and because of that the police find illeagle drugs etc. it happens to the whites also. the blacks are the most to be breaking the law.

    I’d be irritated as well if I overheard such a comment from the ticketing officer, but the man has no basis for charges of unethical/illegal behavior unless he can prove that illegally parked cars with Obama decals were not ticketed.

      Facts are that quite often various bumper stickers will increase your odds of getting a ticket compared to a warning. Inversely I know several who have sheriff or trooper donation stickers to evoke lenient action. It is no secret that outside influences affect your status. If an officer is having a bad day he might stick it to you.

      Here’s a very simple solution.

      1. Having parked and more importantly, having admitted to having parked illegally, the complainant should pay the ticket and then file a complaint about the officer’s words.

      2. Investigating to see how many with “obama” stickers did not get tickets did not get tickets would prove little. Rather, the investigation should take a sampling time of say six months to a year and examine how many people’s cars with “Romney” stickers, etc… were ticketed by this very officer and check for cars with obama stickers over this same time frame being ticketed by this same officer. Officers’ names are usually on traffic tickets and examining the actual cars can easily prove this issue. Then, if a disparity is shown, the officer should be heavily repremanded or even fired for selective enforcement of the law (I believe, an actual criminal charge) and all those ticketed by this officer with “Romney” stickers on their cars ticketed by this officer have their fines refunded with a sincere apology and any further similar political stickered cars ticketed by this officer be put under future review due to unreasonable bias by this same officer.

      If this issue is proven, there should also be immediate counseling of all other officers about this subject and provisions put in place to help discourage similar actions for any other vehicles for any other similar reasons. Aka, make it a firiing offense if proven.

        Um, Liberty has its price- Parking illegally can get you a ticket. Sporting a bumper sticker can have consequences, as well. You pays yer money & you takes yer choice- this used to be called America, and most of us willingly paid the price. For me, my freedom of expression is worth the cost of a parking ticket, and much more. The proper response is to use this incident to inspire us all to do more in order to rescue and to preserve what so many Americans paid much more than the cost of a parking for…
