I’ve always felt it wrong to single out one group to honor in such a way without singling out all of them. Actually, I dont’ think the sexual orientation of someone makes much difference in what they can do historically. It is what they do that counts and should be discussed.

What makes me sick is that the LGBT community has taking over the anti-bullying campaign. It is not just gay kids that are bullied, all sorts of kids are and it is a serious problem (look up Phoebe Prince, she wasn’t gay). But the media only seems to care about gay kids getting bullied. What about all the others?

Suppose you went to eat at a strange restaurant and, upon asking the waitress what was good on the menu, she told you that she didn’t know because she never ate there. When you ask why, she explains that the food and atmosphere are much better at her favorite place, and even though the food costs more, it’s worth it. You would naturally attribute a great deal of credibility to this waitress because she was honest enough to point you away from the place where she has a personal stake in its success. In other words, you would trust her word more than another employee, because she is working against her own interest by recommending you go elsewhere to eat.

The debate about public vs. private schools is similar to the restaurant analogy. According to a study by the Thomas B. Fordham Institute, public school teachers are almost twice as likely (1 in 5 overall) as other parents to choose private schools for their own children.

You know there’s something wrong when those who know the public school system best, and have a vested financial interest in keeping their own kids there, send them to private schools instead. The figure would actually be higher if many of these same teachers could afford private schools, as the study showed that the lower the teacher’s salary, the less likely they were to choose private schools. In many cities, one third to one half of public school teachers chose private schools for their kids. And this study was done eight years ago. Does anyone think our schools have gotten better since then?

The question is why? Well, just like the restaurant analogy, the top three reasons given for the switch to private schools were: 1) higher academic achievement, 2) greater discipline, and 3) better atmosphere.

The two largest teachers’ unions, the National Education Association (NEA) and the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), declined to comment on the report, thus lending a great deal of credibility to it. I mean, what can you say when a substantial number of your own employees don’t believe in how you run your business? Kind of reminds you of that Pepsi commercial where the Coke delivery guy keeps getting caught drinking Pepsi.

The unions’ response to failing schools, along with their allies in the Democrat party and the rest of the government educational establishment, has been to fight school choice tooth and nail. In Louisiana, they have gone so far as to threaten private schools who accept vouchers. School choice is an idea whose time has finally come. Unfortunately, it came at a steep price – several generations of young people whose education was sacrificed at the altar of governmental monopoly. And the battle has just begun.

We look back and wonder how we ever let our education bureaucrats take our money and give us no choice in how they spend it to educate our kids. It happened at a time in our history when we trusted government to be responsive to we, the people, and make the right decisions. That time has passed. The government’s own employees’ choices have told us all we need to know.

One of the principal dangers of modern education is that it has formalised every sphere of human activity…be it infant care, pre-schooling, mother care courses, marriage guidance, adult education, continuing education…almost all areas of human pursuits come under methodological supervision.

Man has really institutionalised most of the learning required of him in life. Bowen and Hobson lament: “The world wide movement towards a mass, public institutionalized education is now creating a virtual crisis situation.”

The contemporary age has given in and bowed down to organised schools for its every possible future need without family being a stabilizing force to strengthen it.

Gabriel Compayre comments: “The school would be powerless, notwithstanding all its efforts to develop sensibility in children who have not brought the first germs of it from their home life.”

Doubtless, it belongs mainly to the family to sow the seeds of future life in a child. The family certainly has precedence over the school by the priority, continuity and duration.

That is how F. C. Happold puts it: “Education comes not primarily through words, but through situations, not primarily through instruction, but from a pattern of living, not primarily through courses of study, but through an intangible spiritual atmosphere created by members of family.”

Public Schools No Place for Teachers’ Kids

More than 25 percent of public school teachers in Washington and Baltimore send their children to private schools, a new study reports.

Nationwide, public school teachers are almost twice as likely as other parents to choose private schools for their own children, the study by the Thomas B. Fordham Institute found. More than 1 in 5 public school teachers said their children attend private schools.

In Washington (28 percent), Baltimore (35 percent) and 16 other major cities, the figure is more than 1 in 4. In some cities, nearly half of the children of public school teachers have abandoned public schools.

In Philadelphia, 44 percent of the teachers put their children in private schools; in Cincinnati, 41 percent; Chicago, 39 percent; Rochester, N.Y., 38 percent. The same trends showed up in the San Francisco-Oakland area, where 34 percent of public school teachers chose private schools for their children; 33 percent in New York City and New Jersey suburbs; and 29 percent in Milwaukee and New Orleans.

Michael Pons, spokesman for the National Education Association, the 2.7-million-member public school union, declined a request for comment on the study’s findings. The American Federation of Teachers also declined to comment.

Public school teachers told the Fordham Institute’s surveyors that private and religious schools impose greater discipline, achieve higher academic achievement and offer overall a better atmosphere.

“Across the states, 12.2 percent of all families — urban, rural and suburban — send their children to private schools,” says the report, based on 2000 census data.

“Public education in many of our large cities is broken,” the surveyors conclude. “The fix? Choice, in part, to be sure.”

Public school teachers in Philadelphia, Cincinnati, Chicago, Rochester, N.Y., and Baltimore registered the most dissatisfaction with the schools in which they teach.

“These results do not surprise most practicing teachers to whom we speak,” say report authors Denis P. Doyle, founder of a school improvement company, SchoolNet Inc.; Brian Diepold, an economics graduate student at American University; and David A. DeSchryver, editor of the Doyle Report, an online education policy and technology
journal.

“Teachers, it is reasonable to assume, care about education, are reasonably expert about it and possess quite a lot of information about the schools in which they teach. We can assume that no one knows the condition and quality of public schools better than teachers who work in them every day.”

“They know from personal experience that many of their colleagues make such a choice [for private vs. public schools], and do so for good and sufficient reasons.”

The report says the school choice movement has begun competitively forcing public school improvement, particularly in cities like Milwaukee, called “a hotbed of school reform,” where 29.4 percent of public school teachers sent their children to private schools, the study finds.

Research into why students in different schools were “dressed up in Muslim attire, chanting from the Koran” and role-playing, revealed that teachers were following state standards.

According to Maddoux, such practices are designed to “gradually alter a child’s conscience, belief system, personality, values and behavior.” Children become confused and feel isolated if they don’t conform. They experience “cognitive dissonance.”

It is pointed out that whether teachers realize it or not, they can contribute to “a process of deception, intimidation, coercion, and mind control.” Through sex education lessons that include Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) presentations and Planned Parenthood involvement, there is no absolute truth. Right or wrong becomes relative to the situation and the choices made by the group, i.e. “consensus.”

Description of the Hegelian dialectic and brief summaries of the teachings of Karl Marx, Antonio Gramsci, and John Dewey supply the pieces that comprise the big picture of public school education today. Teachers simply follow the curricula, utilizing the methodology they’ve been taught.

In an interview on Point of View radio, Dean Gotcher, researcher and author, explained “the need for facilitators — professional change agents, trained in group dynamics and on the intricacies of how to move a group to a preset conclusion.”

Processes develop “reasoning” or “decision-making” abilities in students: “mind manipulation techniques inside innocent-sounding names,” such as Higher Order Thinking Skills, Cooperative Learning, Outcome-Based Education, and Values Clarification.

The warning from Maddoux is clear: “The public school system has assumed the parental role.” What advice is proffered? “I sincerely believe that every Christian parent in America should get his or her children out of the public schools system.” Pronto!!!

With the debt our country has and the liabilities of Social Security and Medicare, Welfare and Food Stamps; our military commitments abroad every American voting age and older, we are peices of garbage for what we have let this country saddle these children with. This is shameful that a school district feels they should dedicate time to teaching alternative lifestyles instead the core studies that our schools are deficient in: math, english, US HISTORY & GOVERNMENT, and science. It may seem funny and innocuous, but it’s like a gateway drug – if they are allowed to establish this curriculum, what’s next- socialist values and communism? 19. Use student riots to foment public protests against programs or organizations which are under Communist attack.

This is Hilarious, (by hilarious I mean horrific i guess) forget that kids around the world are learning math, science, health and technology skills. American kids are going to be eaten alive by the foreign kids. I dont care what other people do in there home; but for crying out loud my 2nd grader doesnt need to know about sex changes. Well my 2nd grader goes to parochial school so her and her sister will be educated; but public school kids good luck in life kiddos!

I am not queer, but I am a sinner. I doesn’t seem fair to have a month set aside for just one type of sin. It discriminates against all the other sinners of different types. They should change the name to “Sin History Month”. That is the only way to make it fair and it would redistribute the glory sin to all of society. And for the people who claim not to be sinners, we can namel the following month in their honor to “Lying History Month”.

It is none of the school district’s business to celebrate anything but academic successes by it’s pupils. But it confirms my diagnosis: The administrators have lost the orientation of what their purpose is. Schools have become social clubs instead of places of academic achievements. The trouble is, that these administrators milk the home owners as if they were ATMs. It’s so much much fun to spend OPM!

Looking at the Broward Co. Schools website i see the Board is made up of 8 white females and 1 black male; not a whole lot of diversity there. But the biggest problem I see is that every one of the members has had a career in education – teachers, principals, administrators which is exactly what a school board should not be. It’s like having a parole board made up of felons.

I grew up in (then) rural Broward County, and if I still lived there, I would be the loudest voice letting the school board know that this is not acceptable! I thought it was bad 30 years ago when I was in school there, but this is way over the top. I would never subject my children to this type of indoctrination, and would do everything I could to make sure that it did not stand!

Broward County parents and taxpayers, please, please protest this abomination by your local government in any way that you legally can, and let them know that it is not acceptable. Remember, these “leaders” work for you, and you are paying their salaries. They are totally out of control, and have forgotten who SHOULD be in charge!

It’s very simple. The parents of these children should notify the school superintendent that their child will not be allowed to participate. If the school forces them to participate the parents should hold their child out of school. If they give a celebration and no one comes, well you know the rest. The parents should also find out who the individual was, either superintendent or school board, that signed off on this garbage and work to get them fired. Enough with this crap.
