Government Says Get Ready For Zombies
September 10, 2012 by Bryan Nash
The Homeland Security Department urged citizens on Thursday to prepare for a zombie apocalypse, according to The Associated Press. The rationale behind the warning is that if you are prepared for zombies, you’ll probably be able to survive a national disaster.
The government recommends that you have an evacuation plan in place, a change of clothes, water, medications and flashlights.
This isn’t the first time the government has warned citizens about the zombie apocalypse. In May 2011, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention published a post urging people to prepare.
At that time, the following supplies were recommended:
- Water (1 gallon per person per day)
- Food (stock up on non-perishable items that you eat regularly)
- Medications (this includes prescription and non-prescription meds)
- Tools and Supplies (utility knife, duct tape, battery powered radio, etc.)
- Sanitation and Hygiene (household bleach, soap, towels, etc.)
- Clothing and Bedding (a change of clothes for each family member and blankets)
- Important documents (copies of your driver’s license, passport, and birth certificate to name a few)
- First Aid supplies (although you’re a goner if a zombie bites you, you can use these supplies to treat basic cuts and lacerations that you might get during a tornado or hurricane)
Earlier this year, following Rudy Eugene’s cannibalistic attack in Miami, the CDC denied the existence of zombies.
Agency spokesman David Daigle wrote in an email to the Huffington Post: “CDC does not know of a virus or condition that would reanimate the dead (or one that would present zombie-like symptoms).”
