George, there is a difference between natural born citizen and a citizen by birth. Yes, Mitt was born in the United States (so were millions of children born to illegal aliens) but his dad (and probably mother) was not an American citizen. His dad, George, never was naturalized (no record) ..No, I am not a Democrat. I am an Independent who has voted for Republicans on occasion.

Even if George’s father retained his U.S. citizenship (and that hasn’t been established), George, himself, was born in Mexico which means he automatically became a Mexican citizen according to THEIR laws. If he never renounced it, at best he was a dual citizen and could only convey that dual citizenship to Mitt.

Me thinks there needs to be some clarification made here in regard to what constitutes a person being a US Citizen, pursuant to the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution. Here is a little something I found online:

The 14th Amendment states:

You seem to ignore the clause ‘and subject to the jurisdiction thereof’ and to the statement that they are ‘citizens’—not ‘natural born’ citizens.

While persons within the U.S. are subject to U.S. laws, that is only partial ‘jurisdiction.’ Illegals who are in the U.S. must obey the laws or they are arrested for violations. However, as Mexican citizens, Mexico has ‘jurisdiction’ over them and can impose whatever requirements Mexico deems reasonable for its citizens. Total jurisdiction includes complete ‘allegiance’ and being ‘outside of (above) the influence’ or ‘requirements’ of another country.

As children automatically assume the citizenship of their parents, the children of illegals are Mexican citizen (or whatever country claims citizenship of the illegal parents.) Technically, Mexico could require the U.S. born children of Illegals to serve in the Mexican military. That puts those ‘birthright citizens’ outside the jurisdiction of the U.S.

The 14th Amendment, through numerous letters and papers, was never intended to apply to those who are in this country illegally. The change in the interpretation of the 14th Amendment was made by Justice William J. Brennan in his 1982 decision of Phyler v. Doe in which his decision forced Texas to grant free public education to the children of illegal aliens. That decision was further interpreted to grant citizenship to the children of illegals born in the U.S. Until that time, citizenship was NEVER granted to children born in the U.S. to illegal aliens.

As for your ‘citizenship equality,’ the 14th Amendment is citizenship by law. It does not even address natural born citizenship. If it takes a law to define one’s citizenship, the person cannot be considered as ‘naturally’ born a citizen.

Protecting the integrity of the voting process is everyone’s responsibility. If people think elections are rigged, they will discontinue voting, and will voice their discontent through other, possibly violent means. There has certainly been cases of voter fraud, and elections being won by candidates who benefited from such fraud. The latest example of this was Al Franken’s win in Minnesota for US Senator, giving Obama the tie-breaking vote he needed to pass Obamacare. If it becomes known that the only way an election can be won is through voter fraud, there is no telling just how corrupt our political system can become. Most everyone understands it’s not unreasonable to ask for a photo ID to “prove” who you are before doing many things, even voting for our public officials. Democrats look like they know they are benefiting from voter fraud and want to defend processes that allow voter fraud to take place. If they spent as much time expressing their concern for voter fraud and protecting the integrity of the election process as they do making lame excuses on behalf of ignoring this issue, they’d have more credibility on this subject in my opinion.

The US Supreme Court has already ruled that states have the right to require voter ID to vote.. It’s a done deal. Holder keeps trying to sue the states to stop them and he loses as the Supreme Court has spoken. Much as I hate the decision on ObamaCare I have to live with it.. You guys have to live with the right of states to determine if they want to have voter ID requirements.
And.. all polls show that 70% of Americans support voter ID laws. And it’s NEVER been proven that voter ID laws discriminate against minorities. Time to buth up and deal with life..

Are you saying those who collect SS don’t pay taxes? Unless it’s from the welfare side of SS called SSI, anyone collecting SS because of retirement or disability have PAID into the SS fund to qualify to collect.

In addition, should they purchase goods or gasoline or any of the other myriad of taxable items sold in stores and elsewhere, they ARE paying taxes! Income taxes are not the only taxes collected.

He did NOT pay 35%. He paid a TOTAL of 13.9%.
Couples on SS with total incomes of 32K+ pay federal taxes on 85% of their social security checks, plus any and all other income. Cap gains vary from 0 to 15% depending on income, and if long or short term.
Pensions, IRA/401k distributions, and savings interest (including annuities) are taxable at normal rates. Many retired people and many working people pay income taxes at higher rates than Romney.

Norm.. I thought i said clearly that Romney paid 35% on his income when he wzs working for Bain and the Olympics. 35% on ordinary income. As you point out (as did I) capital gains tax rate is now 15% (long-term gains) and that has been Romneys income source for the past 10 years.

Romney also has some ordinary income (speakers fees etc..) and he donates about 15% of his reported income each year so yes – he pays an effective rate of roughly 13% today. But he paid 35$ on the income (when working at Bain) which he then invested and now pays the 15% rate. I count that as 50% effective rate. And let’s not forget that capital gains taxes only come into play when your investments make money – when you lose for the year you are limited to $3k annual deduction – with carry forwards.

Of coarse you don’t care about how Romney “earned” his money or where he hides his “creative destruction” gains. That is obvious from many here over the last several months. No different than the callous attitude in NOT caring about what Wall Street did to our nation and our finances. They kept their money while the country suffered. If Mitt’s father and mother were citizens at the time of his birth then he’s a natural born citizen. The issue is that Obama’s father was NEVER a US citizen so technically he’s not a natural born citizen – the Supreme court refuses to address this issue. Even Justice Thomas said this publically this year.

Mitt’s parent’s were citizens – as were John McCains – even though he was born in Panama while his father was on military duty and that also makes him a natural born citizen.

I still hold that if born on American soil, only one parent need be a citizen of the United States to qualify as “natural born citizen” (if born outside the US, two parents must be citizens to qualify as the same), however, according to a compelling case that I saw in the video “Dreams of my real father”, it seems entirely likely (even just looking at the two) that Frank Martial Davis (who was a citizen) could very well be Obama’s real father. If this is true, it would make the case of Obama’s natural born citizenship, rather moot, even if you hold the view that two parents are required to be citizens, if born on American soil. If you haven’t seen “Dreams of my real father” yet, I recommend it.

Minor v. Happersett (being only an interpretation) states, “all children born of citizen parents within the jurisdiction are themselves citizens.”. Many will point to the word parents being plural, while I say it to be grammatical reference to the word children being plural. But this is moot, as Minor v. Happersett also states, as I did, that “The Constitution does not in words say who shall be natural-born citizens. Resort must be had elsewhere to ascertain that, at common law, with the nomenclature of which the framers of the Constitution were familiar”

It has been argued (quite well by Bob Livingston himself) that an objective source of that common law with the nomenclature familiar to the framers would be, ‘The Law of Nations by Emmerich de Vattel’… which states, “I say, that, in order to be of the country [natural born], it is necessary that a person be born of a father [parent - singular] who is a citizen”

Last time I checked the USA operates via law per the US Constitution and laws subject to it.. which does state that a ‘natural born citizen’ have both parents who are citizens. Sheriff Joe has his quirks but he is an honest man in my book.

According to news reports during George Romney’s GOP Presidential campaign against Nixon in 1968, Mitt’s great grandfather, Miles, although born (a U.S. citizen) in Illinois, moved to Utah and was prosecuted for poligamy. It is unclear whether he lost his U.S. citizenship at that time. Miles moved with his family (one of three wives) and his son Gaskell (age 14?) to Mexico. Gaskell married in Mexico and had son, George (and others.)

Whether Miles and Gaskell were still U.S. citizens or not, Mitt’s father George became a Mexican Citizen when born in Mexico (according to Mexican citizenship law.) Unless George (possibly) naturalized and definitely renounced his Mexican citizenship, he remained, at the very least, a dual citizen–and possibly just a Mexican citizen. When children are born, they automatically become citizens of the parents’ countries. This means that Mitt was born with (1) Mexican citizenship from his father, and therefore cannot be a ‘natural born citizen’; or (2) dual U.S./Mexican citizenship from his father, and therefore cannot be a ‘natural born citizen’; or (3) IF there was no expatriation of citizenship rights either due to Utah/U.S. poligamy laws/prosecution or from permanently leaving the U.S. to live and own property in Mexico (only available to Mexican citizens), AND if his father, George renounced his Mexican citizenship, THEN Mitt is probably a natural born citizen.

For those who believe Minor v. Happersett was ‘Opinion’ and not ‘Law,’ it WAS the known definition of ‘natural born’ Citizenship from the time the Constitution was written and through the 19th and 20th centuries until it was questioned by career politicians 2 to 4 decades ago.

A ‘natural born’ citizen is one who is naturally born to citizenship without the requirement of law. That is why a ‘natural born’ citizen is one who is born IN the country of parents who are BOTH citizens OF a country. There is no question of allegiance or requirement to or by another country.

Anyone who quotes the 14th Amendment (law defining ‘citizenship’–NOT ‘natural born’ citizenship) is using the LAW to become a citizen. Therefore, not ‘naturally born’ a citizen. As Minor v. Happersett stated, “it was never doubted that all children born in a country of parents who were its citizens became themselves, upon their birth, citizens also. These were natives, or natural-born citizens, as distinguished from aliens or foreigners.” The court observed that some authorities “include as citizens children born within the jurisdiction without reference to the citizenship of their parents”—note the statement is ‘citizen’ not ‘natural born’ citizen—and it can only be determined by LAW. As in Wong Kim Ark and other ‘citizenship’ cases.

According to the Constitution, a citizen can become a Senator, Representative, appointed Justice, Judge, Secretary, federal civil employee, or any State elected, appointed or civil officer or employee. ONLY the President (and Vice President because of the right of sucession) MUST BE held to a higher standard of citizenship and be a NATURAL BORN CITIZEN in order to avoid divided loyalties in our Commander in Chief and the Executor of U.S. laws.

To answer the author’s question, Mitt Romney is NOT a birther. He can’t afford to be because there are significant questions regarding his own status of citizenship.

McCain was vetted by Congress and it was decided that since his father was in Panama on active diuty and McCain was born on U.S. soil in Panama and both of his parents were U.S. Citizens, then he passed the qualifications to be President.

You might ask who brought up the subject of qualifications for McCain? Yep, it was the Democratic Party and you can bet is was instigated by Obama, because this is his method of winning elections.

But did McCain demand that Obama prove his qualifications? No chance is hell he would do that because that might be classed as Racist instead of Constitutional. This is also why McCain did not attack Obama in the campaign, nor would he allow Palin to attack Obama for fear of the race card.

Romney this week made a quip that “No one had asked to see his Birth Certificate” and the MSM was on his a-s immediately. Romney made the mistake of saying that ‘Obama was born in the United States’. A stupid remark on his part, what he should have said was ‘This is correct, no one has asked to see my birth certificate’. And left it at that….. Wake up Mitt, think on your feet, these bastards will try to trap you by every sentense you speak.

There are only two qualifications to be President, read the Constitution for Christ sake.
1. you must have reached the age of 35.
2. you must be a ‘natural born citizen’.
You do not have to be any other thing. You can be dumber than a stone, be blind, have a peg leg or no legs at all. So to say that a ‘citizen’ with 1 and 2 above is not qualified is just your opinion. And like a-s h-les, we all have one.

McCain was asked for his birth certificate.. and it was addressed by congress.. he was ruled a Naturalized Citizen.. which is required by Article II Section I of the Constitution.. Obama has a law suit (from people vs. Georgia) pending in front of the US Supreme Court to rule on his eligibility. We’ll see if the US Supreme Court has the balls (or whatever female anatomy part) to take this on this year..

Both of McCain’s parents were US citizens. His dad was in the navy stationed in Panama.

In all fairness lying is as American as apple pie. Both Romney and Obama have lied about the stands of each other. What I find fascinating is that Romney is expressing outrage that his character has been attacked in vicious ads from the Obama campaign. This is the same Romney who carpet bombed Perry, Gingrich, Santorum, and Mr. Pizza with blistering attacks on their fidelity, honesty, and ability. Gingrich called him a liar on TV. If members of his own party while running against him claim him to have low enough morals to be called a liar then why can’t Obama say the same.

Oh, I guess Obama’s mother being a citizen doesn’t count nor qualify? Let’s say he was born in Kenya. Did his mother denounce the US or give up her citizenship? Or was she not a ‘natural born citizen’? This may take some time (about 24 hours) to make up a story for something like that. Or did he come from an alien? Which one? What planet?
